Mark was very helpful! I called to set up an appointment and he quoted a price of $149. He then proceeded to pull up my house online and give me tree advice over the phone. He spent about 20 minutes and answered all my questions. He also hooked me up with a stump grinder company. He didn't charge me a cent. I plan to use him in the winter for my tree trimming.

The 770 Arborist crew arrived on time, began the work after discussing how to perform the job, began the work in a safe manner avoiding damage to all properties involved. There were some really tricky cuts to be made as branches on the largest oak, overhung my property line and a couple of smaller trees had entwined at the fence line with overhanging branches. Watching the process was interesting and the communication among the crew members was remarkable. They worked seamlessly to get the job done in a timely and professional manner. Thanks to them for a job well done. Although we did not shop around, we thought the price was excellent, with Mark stating that the large trunks would be picked up at a later date.

Mark came out in earl April to quote on the job. He was punctual and very professional and knowledgeable about trees. Three weeks later, he came to the house with 5 workmen and completed the job in four hours. It had rained the night before and the morning of the job, so it was not the most ideal of conditions. Mark and his team cut down three dying trees within 40 minutes. They even cut down a few smaller trees that were dying that were not included in the quote. They brought a wood chipper that really was a workhorse. When the job was done, they cleaned up the mess and left. All were polite and no one damaged my house with the large branches that were cut down. I am very pleased with Mark's work. He's a wonderful arborist that keeps his promises and charges what he quotes. He's a great pro.
Description of Work: Pruned trees and cut down over seven dead or dying trees. Several large dying branches were cut down that were hanging over the house. I can't believe the worker climbed that high without spikes.

Mark Russell arrived on time as scheduled. He walked the property with us and gave recommendations on eight trees; some having different problems with different solutions. We found him professional and willing to answer any of our questions. When he didn't know something, he said so and said he would research it and get back to us. He did do that and gave us more information on a tree that we will have to remove in the near future. We feel he is still gaining experience on trees. This will only come with more years in the business. We hope he will continue to educate himself on all aspects of trees in this area.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with the A.L. community. Yeah, there are thousands and thousands of different situations where arborists have to decipher the causal issue. When we don't have an immediate answer, there certainly is a temptation to act/sell as if we do, so that we "look" better. However, that would not be operating with integrity. Your situation was a bit out of the "norm" that I see day in and day out, and thus took a bit more research that I was happy to do. I'm glad that I was able to answer all of your questions. (Even if after some research). Thanks again for your feedback! And as a side note… If anyone out there owns a Holly tree with a bumpy pattern in the trunk…. Call me! I'll know the answer instantly! :-)

Contacted Mark after I already had three different estimates from other companies. I wasn't really worried about the other companies but seeing all the positive reviews, and the fact that Mark responds to them, I really wanted to see what he could do as well. Since I wasn't looking to save any trees, just remove some pines, I knew he might not be the cheapest. I did have a good conversation with Mark on the phone and was right about him being a little more for this job but he was more than helpful in advice. He said I should be fine with the companies I mentioned for this job but said to call him back if I felt something seemed off and wanted a second opinion. Very early in a our conversation Mark realized he wouldn't be making any money from me, but yet he chose to continue to give helpful advice and offered to extend that advice past the call. That's a rare individual regardless of the line of work. Thanks Mark.

We contacted Mark shortly after the trees came down and he made a site visit a few hours later (late on a Saturday). He made us feel confident about working this through our insurance company, and his crew was onsite Sunday a.m. and done with cleanup before noon - taken care of less than 24 hours after the trees came down.

I had done a lot of research on who I wanted to come look at my tree. I knew something was wrong with it but didn't know the extent of "destruction" taking place inside my tree. I read the reviews and checked out his website and knew Mark was one to call right away. He was quick to respond and was at my house to give me his unbiased opinion almost immediately. He was very punctual and friendly. My tree was dying and is infested with Ambrosia Beetles. Mark took his time and explained everything that was going on with my tree along with the unique situation in removing it. A power line leading to a neighbor's carriage house would need to be dropped, so GA power needed to get involved, and we would have to use the neighbors driveway as ours is a little too narrow and a vast majority of the trees limbs hang over said carriage house. Even though we didn't end up using Mark to remove the tree, we used someone he highly recommended and that made us comfortable and at ease with the situation. This review is a little delayed, but if I could give Mark an A++ I would! Along with being passionate about his job he clearly loves what he does and truly wants the best for people, and trees.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share with the AL community! This was a beautiful tree and sad to see that it had to come down. We offer our consultation service because when thousands of dollars are on the line, commission-based sales people may recommend what is best for for their commission and not for the tree's health. (Also, we credit the consultation fee toward any future work we may do.) If you have tree questions/problems, feel free to call me! I'd love to help answer and solve them! Mark

Mark came out the day after I called him to assess the trees on my property. My major concerns were pruning overgrown tree hollies and cherry laurels on my property line. Mark spent over an hour walking the property with me and pointing out some concerns. He came back 3 days later with his crew and spent 7 hours completing everything I asked. In all, they performed major pruning on 2 large water oaks, 1 large liquidambar, 1 medium beech, and 3 large cherry laurels. Also performed minor pruning on 2 large tulip poplars, 5 tree hollies, and 7 dogwoods. Also removed 3 20 foot trees. Everything was neatly stacked and then hauled the following day.

Very well. Mark was very responsive, knowledgeable and professional. There was no pressure to have the work done at my initial call and I appreciated the fact that the concern was about doing what was best for the health of the tree. I would definitely recommend his service!
Description of Work: Mark provided an assessment of the tree in our front yard over the summer, but suggested waiting until the tree was dormant to do any kind of work to it. I called him about a week or so ago to revisit. After looking at the tree, he suggested cutting the tree considering any type of trim would not make it any more shapely and there was still a risk the trunk could split further. All work was completed within 2-3 days.

Mark is a true professional in both his understanding of trees and tree removal. He initially came out and walked my property (with me) inspecting each tree. I have an acre + lot and he spent over two hours with me on this exercise. He was very open identifying trees that posed a potential hazard and trees that were in good state - this alone saved me money as there were several trees I thought needed removing, but Mark indicated they were in good condition. I would encourage anyone to periodically use Mark's services in this area. The money will be well spent and he will apply this service fee to any work he does. After the tree review, I hired Mark for the day to remove hazard trees and other trees/limbs to improve my property's aesthetics. Mark and his team arrived on time and did a fantastic job in removing the trees. Several of the trees had to be brought down by climbing and topping as they were close to the house. He and his team did an excellent job in protecting both my property and other near by trees I wanted to keep. I was as impressed by the team's clean up exercise. Once Mark was finished (except for the removed trees and limbs) you would not have know that approx. 100 trees on my property had been "touched" in some manner by any debris left behind. I would encourage anyone who needs tree service to first contact Mark. Whether he does the removal or not (which I believe once you meet with him, you will use his service) his knowledge, professionalism and overall understanding of trees will help you in deciding which trees to address.
Description of Work: Hired Mark for the day for tree removal and trimming. Removed 4 large dying trees and approx 30-40 additional trees to improve property's aesthetics. He also trimmed away lower handing branches on approximately 40 trees.

Mark did a great job. I first called him over the summer, and he advised me to wait until the fall or winter. I appreciated that he was more concerned for the health of my trees and the quality of the job than in getting the immediate business. I called him back a few weeks ago, and he was able to pull up a picture of my yard online, talk through what I wanted to do, provide great advice, and give me an estimate over the phone. It took a little while to schedule the job due to the weather, but he came out today and did a fantastic job. He explained what he was going to do, worked very quickly, and cleaned up all of the debris, all at a very competitive price.

:-) Yes.... Telling a customer that it is best to prune in the dormant season is VERY risky for short-term business because there are so many tree-sale people who will downplay summer pruning to get a job. Of course there is a balance here when there are not a lot of cuts to be made. But on your job, with the large % of canopy cleaning you needed, it was defiantly safer to wait till winter. Thanks for waiting, and thanks letting us take care of your trees! Also, thanks for letting the other AL members about your experience! Mark Russell I.S.A. I don't even know where to begin - Mark did amazing work. He easily spent three hours pruning and trimming two trees that desperately needing to be trimmed back. One was encroaching on the front of our house. I was amazed with how much care and attention he put into the job - most importantly, almost all the work he did was done by hand, and very limited chainsaw usage. At the end of the job, I was floored - both trees looked amazing! Our entire house looked better! I can't say enough good things about Mark's service. Not to mention the time he spent with me on the phone explaining tree health, why this trimming should wait until October rather than September, etc. He does amazing work, and really cares about your tree's health. He's a certified arborist that will spend the time and energy necessary to do a high-quality job, and I didn't mind spending a bit more money to get that kind of quality. I will absolutely hire Mark again to trim our trees in the future. I'd recommend you call him for your tree servicing needs, without reservation.

Thanks for taking the time to share you thoughts! This tree had a TON more dead wood inside than normal and is a great example of how we treat our customers. We prune our customers trees the way we would take care of our own. Proper pruning takes time and many times it requires hand-saw work and cuts that are 1/2 inch and smaller. Many tree services never leave the trunk and walk out on the limbs. However, this forces large diameter face cuts which are hard for the tree to heal over. Walking out on the limbs and making smaller cuts reduces the overall weight of the tree the same, but it does take a bit longer. It is the way I prune my trees at my house. Anyway..... Thanks for the taking the time to share your thoughts! Mark Russell I.S.A. Certified Arborist SO#6098-A 770-Arborist (770-272-6747)

Initially I called Mark to look at an old oak we had in the front yard. We were concerned as to its health and wanted to have someone look at what we could do to bring it back. He came out and looked at the tree and we came up with a plan to try and bring the tree back. The next day Mark called me back because he spent the evening thinking about the tree and its condition. He wanted to come back out (for free) with equipment to climb the tree and look at a broken section that had decay. Basically he discovered the tree had a lot of rot and was probably hallow all the way down. We discussed the cost for removing the tree and then I got 2 additional quotes from other companies. Mark was competitive and willing to work with us to get the business. He even threw in removing some cypresses for free. His crew was on time and made quick work of removing the tree (which did end up being hallow at the base) and grinding out the stump. We really did not want to remove the tree and had many conversations with Mark about what we should plant in its place and what we needed to do to make sure it would remain healthy. Mark went out of his way to help us and even sourced a new tree, delivered and planted it for FREE. He was genuinely working to provide us with the best service he could to ensure our satisfaction with the work. He is very passionate about trees and knows what he is talking about. I cannot say enough good things about our experience working with Mark.

Mark is not only passionate about what he does, he knows what he's talking about. He was patient while we made up our minds, then came out to do the job within a couple of days after we made our decision. The crew showed up on time, did an incredible job with all of it. They removed 3 trees, cut the ivy stems on all the trees on the property, cut branches away from the house, lifted the canopy on all the trees and ripped out whole patches of ivy in the backyard. They took the time to hand-prune a cherry tree and two Japanese maples that have great sentimental value. In general, they turned the entire front and back yards from overgrown and practically useless into beautiful outdoor space we want to spend time in again. Mark did a ton of extra research and came back yesterday with a specialist to deep-root-feed for the cherry tree out front. He had offered several names and numbers for us to call, but we asked him to make the choice and take care of it since he was the expert. We have every confidence that the cherry tree will be absolutely gorgeous next spring. The crew cleaned up beautifully and the entire job was done in only one day. The price was comparable to other estimates we received, but the quality of the work done was way beyond what we expected. Mark has taken the time to answer all of our questions and explain what and why things need to be done, then done even more. We will be asking him to come back on a regular basis to take care of all the trees. And to top it off, we paid him through Paynate.com and over $400 went to a very worthwhile charity. It's amazing that a business is willing to give up 10% of their income to charity and we're delighted to be a part of such a worthwhile enterprise.
Description of Work: Had a tree fall last March that we thought was ok, worried about the possibility of other trees around the house coming down unexpectedly. Mark came out and did a very thorough evaluation of all the trees, explained what he was looking for and why, wrote a very concise proposal and offered an excellent price. Mark and his crew removed 3 trees, pruned/lifted the canopy of a number of others, cut ivy, hand-pruned a cherry and two Japanese maples, and generally made the entire back yard usable again. All this done in one day!

If you are picky about who you select for your tree work, have no hesitation in hiring Mark. I was very pleased with the way the written proposal was handled. It was professionally typed and went though one round of edts. Mark was very easy to work with and flexible as we made some changes to what we originally planned. He went beyond his usual routine to accommodate our wishes about the job being completed in one day, including the hauling. I wanted a small crew and he listened. We had neighborhood constraints about cuttings being on the street. On the day of the job they arrived on time. During the job Mark did some unplanned pruning on a crepe myrtle to cut back off my neighbor's property and didn't charge for that. The crew took reasonable care not to damage shrubs and perennials beneath the trees, and to not damage the house. I have no concerns about the cutting quality and I felt no need at all to be out in the yard while they worked. They know what they're doing. Ark and crew left my property to work on a neighbor's before our cleanup was complete. They placed the neighbor's cuttings on my side of the street and yard. This and the fact that they placed cuttngs in the street when that was a known constraint and continued to do so after I pointed it out was the reason for the B in professionalism; however, it is minor when you look at the entire scope of work. Everything was cleaned up to my satisfaction before they left Our trees look 100% better. Thank you, Mark and crew.

I called Mark to get a quote on removing a 70+ feet oak tree that was hollowed out and cracking. He was willing to give me a quote based on my photos and video clips and therefore waived the $100 trip charge. His price was reasonable and his tree serviceman named Guy and three other workers took about 4-5 hours to remove the tree. However, in the process, one of the tree branches fell down 70ft and hit our dogwood. The dogwood was damaged and subsequently infected with a beetle. Hard to say if the dogwood would have still been infected if it did not have its branches damaged and bare...only thing wish they could have advised me to treat the damaged and bare trunk with a pruning sealant, which may have deterred the beetle infestation. Also, bear in mind, that his quote does not include stump grinding and therefore, if you wanted the grounded stump to use as your mulch, you will not get that and you will have to pay separately for the stump grinding. His price seemed lower than the others at first, but after the separate stump grinding and the mulch I had to purchase afterwards, it came out to be about the same as the other companies. Now that being said, I have to say that Mark and his crew were professional, courteous, and cleaned up well after their work. Mark also helped me find a contractor who does stump grinding at a discounted price, so that worked out fine too. As I mentioned earlier, Mark also has a company called Paynate, that helps other companies donate 10% of their paid price to a charity of their customer's choice. 770arborist, of course, is a member of Paynate, so I was able to see $185 go towards Compassion International, which was a rewarding experience. Mark seemed to be a honest guy, easy to work with and followed through on his promises. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Mark gave me a quote, sent out his guys to remove a 70+ feet tall oak tree and another diseased small oak tree. He later came by to give me a free arborist assessment on all the trees on our property as well as our neighbor's as part of the service. He uses Paynate service, which donates 10% of your pay to his group to a charity of your choice, so it is very nice bonus.

I had an extremely large pine tree struck by lightning in my backyard, severly damaging the tree and leaving my home at risk. I called Mark and he was able to remove the tree immediately. After having several horrible experiences with other tree removal services in the past, I was thrilled with the fast service and the very reasonable price. They arrived when promised and removed the tree with precision. The cleanup was by far the best I have ever had after having a tree removed. They raked the yard completely, leaving no debris from the tree. The yard looked better than before the tree was struck. I was very impressed that I was able to pay via Paynate, donating ten percent of the cost to a charity that I was able to select through the website. I will definitely use 770-ARBORIST for any future tree removal services needed. Excellent service from start to finish!!! A+++++++ Service

Mark was very knowledgeable. He looked at the trees, told me why they should come out, if they looked healthy or needed to be monitored for future problems. I also had him quote the removal of the trees that needed to come out. His prices were in line with other quotes I had. We ended up not using Mark because we also needed major grading and wood chipping done and he was not able to do the complete job. If it had just been the tree removal we would have used Mark with no reservations. If we need tree removal in the future we will definitely call Mark.

It was an Angie's list Big Deal that I purchased. I'm sure they did a good job of what they did although they didn't do what I asked them to do. I had to hire somebody else to do it. The guys who actually did the work were pretty good but the guy who was running it was not.
Description of Work: There's a tree in my front yard and it was coming off towards my house. 1-770-Arborist ISA Certified Arborists! came out and did just everything except that. They cut the trim of the birch tree and cut down the hemlock.

Thanks for the feedback. The big deal we ran was a mistake because people expected that their thousand dollars (or more) job could get done for $109 dollars…. The simply can not be done. Aaron was leading the crew and was doing all he could to move the men from client to client to keep up. We learned our lesson. We have worked our tails off for years to earn our 105 reviews. Running this Big Deal was a huge mistake and unfortunately one wrong decision has lowered our average rating as a whole. Big Deals don't mix with industries where each job is SO different. One pine in one yard could be 5 times the price of the same pine in another yard with a lot more things under it that could break. I apologize for not communicating effectively through this big deal. This was my responsibility. Mark

That was not very good. That didn't work out very well at all. We expected them to take the cut limbs and everything away which they did not. They left them piled there. They broke a pot that probably costs about $20 and cut down a wild Azalea in the process that I lost, obviously. Plus I had to call several times to get them to come out and they came out months after I had called them several times. I know that they've got excellent reviews but I didn't find it that way. There were no additional charges beyond the big deal amount. They came out to do the work probably about a year later after I bought the deal.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal for 1-770-Arborist. It was $109 for 3 man hours of tree services.

Thanks for the feedback. We agree. The big deal was a bad deal for everyone involved. We learned our lesson. We have worked for years to earn our 105 reviews. Running this Big Deal was a huge mistake and unfortunately one wrong decision has lowered our average rating as a whole. As a small company, we got drowned in so many clients, that we could not keep up. It was one single decision to run the big deal, and one mistake I wish I had not made. You mentioned that you expected the branches were to be hauled, and they were not. I understand. When a client decides to trust a company with their money, an unmet expectation is the responsibility of the company to communicate effectively. I failed to explain properly. The three man hours that you bought, (three men at your house for one hour) simply could not include the hauling of the huge limb that we had to rig down out of the tree. Also, regarding the broken pot. I was unaware of this, and will replace it if you contact me. But it does point to an intrensic built-in problem of "billing hourly". The work we did, with hauling would have normally cost $725-$845. (It was a very big branch). If we would have had $725-$845 on the job, we would have taken much more time so there would have been zero damage. As it was, we tried to hurry to squeeze in the work you wanted while we were out there. We agree, this whole situation was a bad deal for all parties.

This was a very tricky, risky and dangerous job that could have resulted in significant injury and damage to property. Guy lead the job in a very professional and safe manner with no issues whatsoever. Mark was very professional and concerned about customer satisfaction.
Description of Work: Took down a large ~ 60ft pine tree that had split 15ft up from the bottom and was leaning against another tree and was close to both my home and my neighbors home..
