The technician ignored my description of the problem and replaced a temperature sensor that shuts off the gas if the pilot light goes it. This is probably a common problem for furnaces that use pilot lights but this was not a problem for our furnace. Without examining the furnace or duplicating the problem the technician removed the old sensor by jerking and pulling on it with his bare hands, installed a new sensor and pounded on the unit to "remove soot from the igniting ports on the burners so that the gas would ignite more smoothly". The heat came on and ran while we filled out paper work and stopped working minutes after he left. I called the company immediately, less than ten minutes after the technician left, and told them it wasn't fixed and was told that "the technician had left my area for the day". He was in and out of my house in less than 15 minutes and I felt like he just wanted to collect his $55 service fee, bill a small amount (~$25) to the warranty company, and move on to the next house. Based on other reports here I suspect they never would have fixed our furnace. We complained to the home warranty company and they called in another contractor, Artic Circle Air. Unfortunately they have not be reviewed on Angie's List, but they will be later today :-)
Description of Work: Our upstairs furnace, an old model with a pilot light, stopped working correctly and I was referred to Allstar Mechanical by my home warranty company. When the thermostat turned on the heat, the furnace would run for about 10 minutes then cutoff the gas. The blower would continue to run indefinitely, blowing cold air, until you turned the thermostat down. They were called in to fix this problem.

I called another HVAC company who quickly found that it needed a control board and who said if the other technician had actually checked it out, he would have found out the problem. I never want Allstar Mechanical in my home again....ripped me off!
Description of Work: Allstar Mechanical sent a technician twice to my home who told me nothing was wrong with my heating unit. The heat was cycling on and off every few seconds and not blowing air through the vents. After $230, for which they did absolutely nothing (the technician said there was nothing for him to do)-he stayed a maximum of 10 minutes each visit and I still had no heat. I asked for a refund because he was incompetent. The customer service (owner) laughed and told me I was getting no refund after a heated conversation. She was incredibly dishonest, denying things she had said, and keeping my money even though no service was performed.

This company was absolutely awful. They made a terrible mistake, installing the wrong size coils. Another company caught the mistake but when they checked the work done by Allstar, they also said they didn't do any duct modification in which they had charged $500 for. They could have burned out the motors due to the wrong coils being installed. They also had charged me for $15 for Freon disclosure, when there was no Freon in the system and $200 for the coil disposal even though they resell them for scrap. I had a horrible time contacting them to correct anything and ended up having to call someone else.
Description of Work: I called Allstar Mechanical to fix my central air system. They installed coils and modified some ducts.
