Tallents Decks And Porches

Great, the Tallent crew do a very nice job.

These people apparently want deposits prior to contracts being signed. I received a hand-written, scanned quote that was barely legible in an email. I called with questions. I was told by this guy that he would need to call me back when he got back to the office that evening. Three days later, I received an email apologizing for the late contact, but that he would call the next day. TWO WEEKS later, I still hadn't heard a word, so we hired another contractor to repair/rebuild our deck. I sent a courtesy email stating that due to their apparent inability to follow through on promises, we hired another contractor. I got a message back claiming that because I hadn't paid a deposit, then he left me. WHAT??? Since when do questions regarding a hand-written, chicken-scratch, poorly scanned quote require a deposit. STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!! These people are obviously too wealthy for a job they quoted over $8500 to do.

Had an appointment scheduled in the middle of my workday. They TEXTED me and said they had to reschedule. Didn't offer a reason or bother to call and talk to me. I NEVER spoke with anyone from this company, only exchanged iMessages. Who conducts business that way??

He is taking a long time to do it, but he's done a good job.

They were professional and Mr. Talent was always there to inspect the job.

Not well, did not show to provide a quote.

We've used Tallent's in the past, and they do great work. This time it took about a month to get the quote, from the time they came to look at what we needed done. By that time we had already chosen someone else.

We used Tallents to build a porch on our home cost of addition over 22000.00 we have several problems to address problem 1 professionalism and time to complete work: We ask for time to complete Neil told us a couple of weeks at the end it took 4 to 5 months his people would show up and not work go home not come in when we were told they would. We started to paint the porch around them because of the time taken. Problem 2 Quality of work. We after painting found sloppy work in hard to see spots on the roof area gaps in joints more than 2 inches in some spots some screws missing nails also. Problem 3 quote of Job we had a written quote for the scope of the work up front told them about the large hand rails heavy wood that we wanted the spot over the porch at the back door we were told that it would look just like the before addition ect.During the repair we ask would it cost to do add plywood to the chimney are at this time we were told no charge because it was costing less to do the porch. At the final bill it was 1500.00 more ask why Neil told the chimney was extra the porch are over the back door extra large hand rails extra.... I as why told him about quote and chimney talk and he told me we would have to pay.. On a side note we used trex wood on some of the outside steps we had some let over on the last day they were here 3 carpenters made a saw horse out of my left over wood and loaded it up in there truck with a couple of large sticks of treated wood. I paid for all the supplies by c/c total 12800.00 to Manier Building supply. In business you live by your word I know I have one and have run it 20 years.. If they are the best would hate to see the worst.

I wish I had built it myself like I intended. Putting wood even treated wood on top of wet concrete is not good. He did not want to seal the cut ends...had to pay extra, even though the wood manufacturer recommended it on all cut ends. then most ends were still not sealed...did it myself. I work nights....if I had not woke up in time I would have had 2 sprinklers under my deck. I discussed in detail what I wanted when he came over. It was forgotten. Low profile deck....we agreed would could not touch ground...he brought it up before I did. Guess what wood was on ground...did all I could to get some separation. He bragged about how he came back to see his customers after the decks were built. That was 1 yr and 2 weeks ago. He has an excellent review with the BBB also. Not gonna trust them anymore either. The longer I looked the more problem I saw with it.The 6" was not at the door it was at the other end. When we talked about it, I agreed with Me. Talent to shorten the deck by a foot to give us some separation...didn't happen. I did some digging. Still needs some digging but I am going to surround deck with pavers. About the sprinklers... The framing was installed and all that was left was decking when I woke up. Follow up visit?Still invited to come over.

They built a solid construction deck built to code. They worked quickly and well. They were willing to adjust their standard methods of operations to accommodate needs for the stairs. They were professional.

Neil is very knowledgeable and offered several methods of building the porch. The quality of the job was excellent. If you want something done in a hurry he is not your guy, but he will tell you that himself. I will use him again for another project in the future because of his knowledge and quality.

Tallents performed a beautiful job on my screened porch. The crew worked quickly & did quality work. They were professional and friendly. Mr. Tallents listened carefully to me when I explained what I was looking for and offered his advice on some things that I agreed to and am glad of his experience in making my decisions work out so well. They installed a doggie door beside the "people" door and that has worked out well. (My Golden has decided to use the people door, both coming in and going out, but that's okay.)

Tallents was very busy, and it took a month or more to get the work started. I wanted the steps to be 5 inch rise and 12 inch depth. They had no problem re-thinking the plan. I needed a 5' x 6' landing. I also wanted an easy-grip handrail. Everything was built to code of treated pine. My wife and I are very-well pleased with the outcome, and I plan to contact Tallents with a bigger job in 2015.

The estimate was too high; I am not using them. I could get the job done for $1,500. They were fine, friendly and I had no complaints other than the estimate was high. They followed up and I have no doubts that they would probably do very good work. But, they were going to use a Bobcat to carry concrete through our yard and that would probably have messed up our yard. We get so many divots unless they used wheelbarrows, which will not tear up our yard. They were going to cost a whole lot more and not give as good a service as another company.

Took longer than expected, but did a beautiful job. Quality awesome. We love it. honest, good people. If there is weakness with the business, I believe it is they are overwhelmed with managing the amount of work they have now.

Neal Tallent and his assistant were always prompt to return calls when we left messages. He came to our home and offered design suggestions to meet the requests we had regarding our back porch and deck. The construction started within weeks of our finalizing an agreement and continued steadily until the project was completed. The team members were courteous and removed all debris when the job was completed. The deck and porch they built are well-constructed and we have received nothing but glowing comments from friends and family who have been to see it. I would recommend this company to anyone wishing to replace or create a porch or deck.

After reviewing the experiences of others with Tallent Desk & Porches on Angie's List, I decided to contact them to re-do the enclosure on my house. On the first visit Mr. Tallent came with his daughter Jessica, they were on time and after a short introduction, we went to the enclosure area. Initially, I wanted a new enclosure built and he clearly explained the process and provided some options. In a short time, I received an estimate and discussed when he could to start the job. I explained him that I was going on extended vacations and I would contact him upon my return. A few months after that, my wife, and I decided to sell the house and instead wanted to repair the enclosure without modifications. I contacted Jessica and arranged for another visit with Mr. Talent, to discuss the repairs needed. He explained that his crew would clean and treat the wood, re-paint, and install a new screen. After receiving a new estimate, we agreed scheduled the start day for a few weeks later. On their first visit, his crew clear, sprayed watch and detailed the wood structure. After waiting the needed days for the wood to dry, another crew came and painted the structure. The third crew came and installed the screen; they completed in a reasonable time. After a few weeks later, I noticed a few details were not completely to our satisfaction. I did contact Jessica and schedule a visit with Mr. Tallent. They came and after showing the details, he stated that his crew would come and take care of it and within a week, they corrected the details to my satisfaction.

Mr. Tallent arrived on time, and was professional and courteous. He was not comfortable doing the specific job that we requested, so we didn't ask for an estimate. We appreciated his honesty and candor, and would consider him for a job that is more suited to his expertise.

The finished project is great and pretty much what we had in our minds eye before the work began. Mr. Tallent and his crew maintained a professional attitude throughout the job. The job required them to enter and exit my home many times during the course of the days they were working. While they did track debris in from time to time Mr. Tallent had taken the precaution of putting an adhesive rug protection walkway in the areas his crew would traverse. He also had all of the furnishings in the master bedroom draped in plastic to protect them from construction dust. The project was done in two stages first was to build the space and second to put in the stuff that makes up a closet. The project was estimated to have a 3 week duration but went quite bit longer, this would be one of the few negatives I will say about the project. There were a number of contributing factors some of which were beyond Tallent's control, the biggest being the ice storm that hit a week and a half into the project. The storm damage to the Augusta area (power losses and downed trees) affected a lot of the areas people and businesses and cost us about a week in the schedule. There were also various other delays that resulted in 2 additional weeks of delay. The quality of the work was good to excellent. The reason I hired Tallent's Porches and Decks for this project was my previous experience with them (the first project was to remove an existing deck and replace it with a screened in porch and deck). Mr. Tallent takes obvious pride in his work and often went above and beyond what he said he would do or what was required. He and his crew were generally prompt and always professional. After the work was done I was walking around the side of my house and noticed that a piece of siding that had been damaged years ago and not part of this project had been replaced. This repair was done without me asking nor had I been told it had been done - that is above and beyond. I have only one area where I felt the quality was not as good as it should have been and that was painting. When we were returning our clothing to the closet we noted several places were there was obvious color differences, most likely spots that did not receive a second coat of paint. I did not report this to Mr. Tallent but if I had I am sure he would have had the paint crew back at my house the next day. I have hired Mr Tallent twice for significant projects and would do so again without hesitation. I feel I have found a truly honest, professional, and talented (pun intended) company that stands behind there work and do it with pride.

Excellent work. Neal Tallent is a man who prides himself on honesty, integrity and excellence in his work and it shows. This is the second job he's done for us and I would hire him again in an instant! He's easily the most responsive contractor we've used in Augusta. He sincerely cares about customer satisfaction and does everything to ensure your project is exactly what you want.

The provider showed up on time and did the job well. The zoning prevented the provider from doing some of the things that they wanted because of local zone laws. This did not effect the services that we were able to receive.

It was very difficult to get feedback - had to call several times and quotes were given only if BOTH parties were present - that is difficult with our work schedules.

Mr Talent asks all the right questions. He is punctual, professional, and thorough. We were amazed by how quickly everything was completed. I don't think it was more than 2 weeks from our original call that our beautiful pergola was finished.
