This was our second time using Bill. His thorough inspection on the first home saved us from buying a substandard home. He was just as thorough the second time around. We will definitely use him again. He's the best in CRSA. An Inspector to rely on to do the right thing.

Mr Benson was great to work with. He was very detailed in his inspection and his report. He went over all the details with me so I had no unanswered questions.

We had hired Mr. Benson not long ago for a pre-sale inspection of my husband's father's house which allowed us to correct any problems before listing it for sale. His work was so outstanding that when we made an offer for this townhouse, he was the only one we even seriously considered. This place is really about 2 1/2 stories because it has a crawl space. Mr. Benson covered everything from the attic to the crawl space. Because he was so thorough, we have been able to get the problems fixed before closing by the homeowner. Even though the place is in excellent condition, many little things just need doing in an older home and Mr. Benson seems to have caught them all, things we wouldn't have thought of even to check. He checked the attic and the fire wall. He found that not all of the windows closed all of the way or wouldn't open. He noticed that some of the doors didn't close the way they should. He was crawling from one end of the crawl space to the other and found that some bracing was needed under the front door, some corrections needed to be made with the plenum under the furnace, and that the vapor barrier had been bunched up and needed to be spread out. He checked out the roofing shingles (from the ground) and pointed out where some were out of place, soffits that needed some work, etc. (all homeowners' association responsibilities). He checked the detached carport and shed. He pointed out that the ivy growing around the patio was invasive and that we needed to make sure it wasn't growing up the downspouts (It was!). Because of his thoroughness (and a very nice homeowner), we will not have to deal with these things when we start moving in and have the confidence of knowing that nothing major is wrong. When you spend money to buy a place, it is a good feeling to know that. After the homeowner fixed the things we asked to have fixed, Mr. Benson came back and re-inspected the ENTIRE house again. Even though it was hotter than the dickens, he was back up in the attic and crawling around under the house. We can recommend, without reservations, hiring Mr. Benson for a house inspection. After moving into this townhouse, we will definitely be calling him to do a pre-sale inspection of the house we are moving out of to make sure there are no surprises. Oh, his price was VERY reasonable for such a high quality inspection. My husband says you are an idiot if you do not hire Mr. Benson. .

Bill did a very thorough job and provided a nice detailed report with pictures. He also went over pertinent details with me periodically as he was doing the inspection. Highly recommended.

It went great. I was very impressed with his professionalism and the report was very detailed. He was on time and very helpful. I would recommend him for any home inspection. Our house is over 100 years old and he took his time to look at everything.

Bill answered all my questions and concerns while conducting the assessment. He was polite, and very knowledgeable.

I needed someone that was not biased to just check some areas that I needed to have work on, not the entire home. He pointed out certain things that needed to be done. When I had him come back out after the work was done, he pointed out they were done improperly. I am having to rehire a different company to do this work. I am grateful for Bill.

When I showed up 10 minutes early, he was already there. There was a chance of rain that day so he was worried he wouldn't be able to go underneath the house. He stayed for 2 1/2 hours. It took him one day to put a very detailed 30 page report along with pictures.

Bill did an excellent job. He is very detail oriented and did a great job reviewing all aspects of the house and documenting them in his report. As a result we were able to get everything that needed to be attended to fixed or repaired prior to closing. I would night recommend Bill Benson for house inspection services. He is as good as we have worked with and in our 10+ purchases.

Mr Benson did a through inspection of the house. Including pictures and a 35 page report. He also gave some helpful suggestions on how old appliances and roof were and when they would needed to be replaced I was extremely impressed how knogable and professional he is.

I hired Mr. Benson to inspect my new construction home after seeing all his great reviews on Angie's List. I arrived 20 minutes early for our appointment and saw Mr. Benson already there speaking with some of the construction crew and/or maintenance people working on my house! I was very pleasantly surprised at how thorough and knowledgeable he was about everything. I had a list of questions to ask him and he answered every one and never seemed annoyed that I was asking so many... In fact, he seemed to like to "educate" me! He pointed every item out to me as we toured the house, that I should mention to the builders to fix and I was able to do that during my walk through with the builder. Mr. Benson even supplied a detailed report with pictures I was able to forward to the builder as well. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Mr. Benson and am very thankful to everyone who submitted reviews on Angie's List for him!

I feel Mr. Benson did an excellent job inspecting my home. He took pictures of the crawl space beneath my house and email them to me. I was able to view the pictures and have the damages without me having to crawl under the house. He did an excellent job. I would high recommend him to those who would like a thorough home inspection without breaking the bank.

Mr. Benson was very professional, I arrived at the house 30 minutes prior to the appointment time and seen Mr. Benson already there taking pictures of the house. He was very thorough with his inspection and checked every inch of the house and was not afraid to get dirty. Mr. Benson was very knowledgeable and informed me of anything that may need to be done right away or in the future. It's a good thing I hired him because he found some termite damage under the home on a main support beam underneath the house that could have left me with major damage in the future. He takes a lot of pictures and gives a very descriptive report of anything he finds. To add, he does not cut any corners in which I was very happy with his service and would definately use him again. I am sure you find that his service is money well spent. A+++ in my opinion!

Mr. Benson arrived right on time. He is in Augusta, GA and I am in Aiken, SC.First, he started his inspection with the outside of the house. He found problems with the airconditiong unit (leaking freon). After finishing the outside inspection, he did the inside. There were a few problems inside, as well, and they were all meticulously detailed in the report. Mr. Benson is a very kind person. He is a very good person. You will not be sorry if you hire him. I wanted an inspector who had no ties to real estate agents in Aiken. An aquaintance here bought a house which had been inspected by an inspector, who did most of his work, for the real estate agency used by the seller. She had to move out due to mold problems. She now lives in a rental house and is in the middle of a lawsuit. It is a sad situation. I did not want the same thing to happen to me. That is why I hired Mr. Benson.

He was very helpful and prompt. I would highly recommend him.

We were pleased with his service. From our internet search, we suppose his price was typical for such a service, but we had hoped it would not be so expensive. The inspection took about two hours. We appreciated the time he took to go over his inspection with us in detail, make recommendations on how to fix things, and answer all our questions. He explained reasons for some of the remedies from the point of view of grandfathered standards (our house was built in 1956) and current standards. All of this was very helpful. We are trying to sell our house and wanted our own inspection so that we might know in advance and fix any issues that might derail a negotiation with a buyer based on a report from their inspector. We felt like Mr. Benson was on our side in helping to ensure there would be no surprises and in giving us solid grounds for negotiations. There was only one item on which we felt he was not fully correct. That was regarding the use of GFCIs (Ground Fault Circuit Interruptors) for use in bathrooms and kitchens in homes like ours where the original wiring is two wire (ungrounded) rather than three wire (grounded). We have installed GFCIs in our bathrooms and kitchen. He said that the GFCI would provide no protection at all if there were no ground. That surprised me because electrical engineers at my work site (the Savannah River National Laboratory) had recommended using GFCIs in two wire housing to provide some protection against accidentally grounding yourself in a bathroom or kitchen. I did some research on GFCI's and found that Mr. Benson was both right and wrong. He was correct in that they will not trip as intended if there is a short to, for instance, an appliance cabinet if the outlet the appliance is plugged into is not grounded. However, since they measure the current going to an appliance and the current coming from an appliance, they are designed to trip if these currents vary by only a very small amount. Hence if in a two wire system a person accidentally grounds himself, the difference between the current going to the appliance and from the appliance will be large and the GFCI will trip fast enough to protect the person from a large shock. They are recommended for protection in a two wire system. I sent Mr. Benson the results of my research and copies of the reference papers that explained how GFCIs work.

Absolute, professional. His inspection report was comprehensive. He spent alot of time showing me exactly what he had found and why it was a problem. I am so glad that I hired him to perform this inspection. If there was a grade higher than an A I would give it to him.

It was a perfect experience from the very beginning to the end. Mr. Benson showed up earlier than the appointment time and started his work right away on the outside of the house and the backyard. I was with him during the whole process of inspecting the inside. He examined every details in the house and explained to me about all the problems he found and what might have caused them and what the consequences were. He spent a little bit over 2-hours for the whole inspection of the 3300-square foot house, just as he told me when I called him to make the appointment. And the detailed report of over 20 pages with pictures of problems he found was received promptly early next morning. Overall, it is a very pleasant experience to work with Mr. Benson and I feel much more relieved after his inspection and his explanations of the problems he found during the process.

We arranged to have a home we were purchasing inspected by Mr. Benson. We arrived at the home forty-five minutes early, to familiarize ourselves with the house, and he was already there taking pictures of outside the home. He was extremely thorough, pointing out areas we may need to keep an eye on over the next few years. He took the time to answer all of our questions and explained all of his findings. Later that night, we had a thirty page inspection report that included pictures. I would highly recommend anybody using him - He was the very picture of professionalism and courtesy.

So...I hired Mr. Benson because after hiring another inspector (whom I later found out was in business with the builder) I really wanted an independent inspector who was competent and non-bias and wasn't getting paid by builders or realtors to ignore things. My gosh what a difference it made! He returned my call and gave me some idea of how long it might take and asked that I be there if possible so he could explain things. He showed up 10 minutes early, which was great. I like when people are punctual. I told Mr. Benson to take his time, and that I was likely going to need this information in court if I had to sue the builder to get the builder to fix things. Mr. Benson went through everything with a fine tooth comb and then some. He caught that the master bedroom's bathtub had an irregular faucet (the type that usually goes with showers, not for ones without shower heads)--if you pulled it, the water went into the wall because the builder had forgotten to cap it. I didn't know this because I moved into the guest bedroom to save on AC bills (top and bottom floor are separate AC units). He also caught that the roof obviously wasn't leaking because of pine straw--it was due to insufficient flashing and poor sealing. He found some cracks in the exterior stucco of the house, nails that had come loose, and went through the attic carefully. He explained a lot of maintenance things too, which helped. He took lots and lots of photographs. Those photographs and his notes, I mass reproduced at Staples and sent them out to home builders associations, home owners associations, the realtors, the insurance company, the city of aiken engineers, etc. and now the builder is fixing things. Photos can show things that words simply can't, and having a professional opinion helps a ton...you get a lot less pushback because it's difficult to argue against photos, and it's difficult to argue against a professional who has done this for years and years and years and knows exactly what he's doing. Mr. Benson was very professional, very helpful, and very patient, and he helps a lot. I really appreciated how helpful the documentation was in settling problems, and I meant to write earler, but just kept getting side tracked by other things. I hope this review helps someone out there.
