Called Babbits one week prior to Christmas. Service technician came out to the house by the end of the week, looked at the water heater and determined that it was ruptured inside. Discussed the benefits of water heater versus tankless system. Tech was well informed (I had done research on the differences in the systems prior to their arrival) as I tried to trip him up (but couldn't). That impressed me that he didn't try to blow smoke just to make a buck. Decided I wanted the tankless system and get rid of the other water tank on the other side of the house in the process (it had rupture previously and water damage was everywhere. Didn't want to go through that again). Measurements were made, they ordered the system, and two days after Christmas a new system was in place. I was happy that I had kept the coupon that Babbits had sent in the mail just 2 weeks prior. Saved me a lot of money. Extremely happy with the results thus far.
Description of Work: Water heater above master bedroom began leaking (house is 14 years old) one week before Christmas. Wanted to get informed information on tankless heaters as my parents use this type of system.

We hired a contractor because he was the son of my husband's friend of 16 years. BAD, bad, bad mistake. We learned the hard way just because your friend of 16 years tell you that their son can remodel your bathroom, well don't do it!!! This contractor did NOT obtain permits and he is NOT a licensed plumber. So he left our plumbing in a mess. He started the bathroom remodel on December 11, 2012 and February 6, 2013 I had to call Babbitt's Inc. to come and fix the mess this contractor had left us with an unfinished bathroom. The contractor would not return my phone calls, my e-mail messages were ignored and he had been paid in full. Another mistake. Never, never, never pay someone up front. We did because after all this was the son of my husband's friend of 16 years, and we thought surely they would not rip us off. Wrong! So Babbitt's Inc. comes out and I meet David the plumber and Robert his assistant. They were absolutel angels and David began to show me the horrific unprofessional shoddy workmanship that the contractor had left us in a mess. He took photographs as it was the worst job he had ever seen. Criminal in fact. David felt so sorry for us that he called his boss the owner and operator of Babbitt's Inc. They began to work furiously to make things right for us. They worked non stop, taking no breaks for 9 hours straight. They realised the gravity of the situation because the woman that had paid for this remodel is a handicap woman, my sister in law, my husband's sister who we had just gotten out of the nursing home to come and live with us permanently. I had told the contractor repeatedly that the bathroom needed to be finished BEFORE we brought her home from the nursing home only to be told that he had another job he was working on and that other job came before us. He started that other job right in the middle of our remodel! So David is giving me the bad news. He told us that the contractor had damaged our hose pipe to the hot water heater and he had to use a blow torch to soder and fix it. Meanwhile water had been leaking underneath the house the entire time!!! Not only that but the contractor because he is not a licensed plumber had made such a mess in the wall behind the sheet rock that the new shower plumbing had been leaking the entire time and the floor was so wet, the wood so saturated it was dripping! They advised us to report this unscrupulous contractor to the county building inspector and turn it over to the code enforcement officer for violations of not obtaining permits and not being licensed plumber to do the work he had done. Babbitt's Inc. worked with me every step of the way and my sister in law who had paid for this work to be done to get a REFUND from the bad contractor! That is why I say they are absolute angels! So my sister in law will not be out of the money that she had to pay Babbitt's Inc. to do the very work that she had already paid the bad contractor to do because she will be getting a refund from Babbitt's Inc. because they are going to make the contractor pay us back through them. These people are an answer to prayer. I went from crying to getting help and relief. We now have a beautiful completely remodeled bathroom that is the way it is supposed to be. We had done business throughout the years with Babbitt's Inc. and now I wish I had contracted Babbitt's Inc. to do the remodel instead of this contractor but we thought we could trust the word of a friend of 16 years that his son knew what he was doing. Lesson learned. We have never had any trouble with Babbitt's Inc. throught the years and we have been in our home since 1992. Now my sister in law is in a hospital bed and on oxygen 24 hours a day. The bad contractor knew we had brought her home from the hospital to a house where our one and only bathroom was in a mess because of him. I call Babbitt's Inc. my angels! :) They made everything right! The bad contractor? Well the code enforcement officer has got him so scared that if he does not comply his father that owns the business would be appearing before a judge to explain all of this that he has agreed to pay Babbitt's Inc. the money we had to pay Babbitt's for the same work that we had already paid him to do So my sister in law will be refunded! :) Lesson learned. Before anyone starts work ask to see Building Permits, Licenses, etc. don't just take their word for it. I had asked this contractor if he was licensed and he told me he was. I never asked to physically SEE these licenses. Call your county to see if the business that they call themselves is actually listed. Ask them if they are licensed to do plumbing, electrical, etc.......... As it turns out all this contractor was registered to do was and quot;handymanand quot;. He was not licensed to do plumbing or moving of water lines and certainly not behind walls! I also learned from the professionals that had to take over they never, never, never asked for money up front. They only asked AFTER the work was done. The bad contractor asked for money up front.

They arrived within 30 minutes of the scheduled time and the dispatcher called to let me know they were on the way. To me this was a reasonable wait time -- it is hard to predict how long the previous appointment will take. Very happy with their work and will use Babbitt's again.
Description of Work: Babbitt's reset my toilets and fixed a leaking pipe. I also used them to installed new faucet and garbage disposal when I remodeled my kitchen about 5 years ago.

Even though paying $75.00 seemed a little high, repairperson did not try to force buying a product immediately but did suggest considering in the near future. For people on fixed incomes it is great to have someone honest and reliable!

They came the day after I called to give me an estimate. Their estimate seemed reasonable for what they were doing and actually cheaper than what the other company I called estimated. I called and scheduled a time to come and they called back to see if they could reschedule for later since my job was a big one. So that was only issue and it was minor. They showed up at new time we agreed upon. Ricky, who gave me the estimate, brought two workers (Robert and David). He introduced me to workers and showed them what to do. Ricky also noticed I had the gas piped that needed to be cut and I ask if he could do that too. The workers set to work, were pleasant, polite, nice and friendly and worked hard. When all was done, I was sent a bill for my original estimate --- which was great since he basically capped off the gas pipe for free. All has been working fabulously. I would definitey call them again. Four years ago they did my furnace and air conditioning and it was a heck of a job in my 1920s bungalow and they did a great job on that. I strongly recommend them.
Description of Work: They removed an electric water heater that was located in my kitchen and capped the lines. Then, they installed a new water heater in my basement. I also had a gas line that needed to be cut and capped off below under my kitchen in the crawl space and they did this as well.
