I got his number from a friend who had a porch done by him. I called him and he came out that next day. He did good work, it just sounded like the process might take longer. He didn't have a lot of people. He gave me a quote within a few days. He listened to my input about the project. He wanted to use some different materials than I wanted, that's all. I wanted a PVC post and I didn't know if he worked with those, instead of the regular cedar or whatever post. He was going to use 4 x 4 cedar posts. And I wanted the ones that would never rot or wouldn't warp. They're more expensive, but I wanted to use those. He was a little more cost effective than the guys that I got. He was very reasonable in price.
Description of Work: He gave me a proposal for add-ons to my house, building a 14 x 23 screened porch and a 15 x 6 deck.

This was an incredibly terrible experience which still nauseates me after 6 months. Please see the write up under his other alias "Level Craftsman" or Matt Horton. Six months later, it still makes me angry how he treated me. I had to hire someone to come and finish the work he did.
Description of Work: Lay tile owner's tile in the basement, replace drop down ceiling, replace steps. Please see write-up already provided under "Level Craftsman" or "Matt Horton".

Matt Horton at the Level Craftsman was referred to me by a neighbor that had used him. I should have been suspicious when I told him that his price was high and that my neighbor hadn't told me that. He responded with "well, that is because his insurance paid for it." I was in a bind, I needed the work done and he was highly recommended by my neighbor at the time. He did a fair job on the work that he completed but left work undone. The worst part was when I was writing him out a check, he went off on me with issues that had obviously been building up in his mind. He started yelling that I "had been wining about the price" since the beginning. That I "hadn't taken the carpet off the original steps" (he told me not to take them off till the work was started as I assumed for safety reasons. His voice raised and he became quite scary and as a single woman alone, I just wanted him out of my house at that point. There are more details but to make a long story short, he was way overpriced, did the bait and switch when he gave me the estimate, didn't finish the work correctly, started raising his voice and accusing me of wining about the price, not to mention that he made addition errors on the bill. He did call me back later to say he would come and finish the work he didn't do, but at that point, he was too scary and I just didn't want him in my house.
Description of Work: Matt was to put in a new ceramic tile (I purchased) on my basement floor (about 450 sq ft), replace the drop down ceiling with new ceiling tiles in two rooms (about 300 sq ft), and replace the steps leading to the upstairs with new wood.
