ShelfGenie Washington, D.C. and Metro Area

I ordered the shelves in February 2015, and they were installed in April. The shelves seemed fine (although expensive). In early September a brace on the underside of one of the upper shelves came loose and hung down, blocking the shelves from "gliding" in and out of the cabinet. I called Shelf Genie several times in September and October and emailed them, asking them to come and fix the hanging brace. No response. No call back. No email back. By good fortune another contractor was here working on some shelves, and when he saw the problem he volunteered to fix it, so the brace has been fixed. But no thanks to Shelf Genie. To be clear this was Shelf Genie of Northern Virginia & Washington, DC. The franchisee was Cabinet Magic, Inc. Lead designer was Joe Johnson. Installer was Jim Burgess. UPDATE -- October 30, 2015: Within an hour of my posting this review I got an email from Joe Johnson apologizing, saying he had sold the franchise and perhaps my messages/emails got lost in the transition, and a phone call from Jim Burgess, also apologizing and offering to come fix the shelves. Since the problem had already been addressed I declined his offer.

He did a wonderful job. And one time, the door to the cabinet fell off. It was the door on the cabinet that we had put in the new shelving, so I called him and told him what had happened. He said, 'Do exactly what I tell you to do and if that doesn't fix it, I will be right there'. So, I put my son on the phone, my son got the instructions, he went and fixed it. It has been fine ever since. He is really good. In fact, we have a home in Florida, I am going down there in another month and I am going to have the same company do the cabinets down there too. Two years ago he came and put in all the ShelfGenie type shelving. They pull out, so I can stand next to the shelf and pull it out, load it up and push it back in. Same with my pantry, I no longer have a pantry that you have to dig in and out of, I just stand next to it, pull out the shelf, get what need to and push it back in. It was expensive but it has been worth it. I have a herniated disc in my back, so getting things in and out of shelves is very hard. It made life beautiful. For most people especially young couples, I think this would not be something I would suggest them doing, but for older people this is really an A. You just have to have this done. When he was caught up in a job somewhere else, he called me. So he did, every 15 minutes he would call me and say, ''I am still here but I am coming'.

I am writing this review late (by a couple of years), but as I am searching for additional work to be done I came across this provider and remembered what a great experience I had and can say that the shelves are holding up even two years later with tons of use and abuse. The shelves themselves are an absolute TOP QUALITY product! But I also must say that the installer Jim and his son were VERY professional and did such an amazing job. The trash shelf I wanted was an issue and the floor was uneven and Jim, with his vast experience, expertise and engineering creativity was able to fix the problem and still give me what I wanted. Truly if he did work other than just for Shelf Genie I would hire him and his son for this new project! So to recap - Service = EXCELLENT, Product = Durable and Sustainable, Cost = VALUE. I could not be happier with Shelf Genie!

About 2 days after I called the 800 number, Mr. Johnson, the franchise holder in my area (Northern Virginia), called and made an appointment to assess my needs. He measured everything, explained what could be done, noted which things would help and which would not (this impressed me, he did not try to sell more than I needed), and gave me a price. Accepted my credit card for 50%. Later the same day, the installer called, made an appointment for the next day to take a look. When he arrived (right on time), he remeasured, verified that my expectations and his offerings were on the same page. The shelves then had to be built. In about two weeks, installer called and made an appointment to come put everything in. It was a good full day's work, he arrived on time at 10:00 a.m. and left just before 7:00 p.m., everything completed. Now, three weeks later, I am delighted.

We had a good experience with them. Everything is on time and they did a good job.

It was very nice. Simple man. He was alone. He not only came out to look, but he also does the work. He does a very good job. I would recommend him highly. I thought the price was really high, but I needed it. I had to have something because I was routing through the shelves and couldn't find anything; whereas with the genie, I just have to pull the drawer out and there I am.

Wonderful experience. They were very professional throughout the whole process. They gave me ideas to help organize my kitchen and were very knowledgeable about their products and what would work best for me. They asked a lot good questions in order to pcome up with the best design for me. The installation process was easy and very clean I love my kitchen with new shelving

This was a top notch experience! From the very beginning until the end, the company's staff were very professional, courteous, and diligent. We are extremely pleased with the shelving and have not encountered any problems since it was installed. My only regret is that I did replace my old unhappy shelving earlier!

Shelfgenie was excellent! They came one day and listen to what we wanted and then measured the three cabinets for the appropriate shelving and then came back with the materials and worked quietly and efficiently on the second day and completed the work. Getting dishes and pots and pans is no longer a problem. As for cereal boxes, vegetable cans, etc. no longer a problem. We couldn't figure out why we waited so long to get this done! WE highly recommend this company AND its people!!!!!

They were good. They followed through and did what they said they would do. I think that they are a little expensive for what they do.

I was very impressed with their shelves themselves and the quality of the shelves. They came out and installed them in one day. They did the measurements at once, built it and then came back and installed them. My interactions with them were very good. The shelves are working out excellent so far. They had quoted me a price. I had seen them at a home shelf several years prior and they came with the same estimate several years later. I then decided to do it late and they came in at the same pricing.

They were quite good, I had them do some work for me. They were prompt when they came out, and then I contracted with them, they did what they said they were going to do, and in a timely manner. They were more expensive than I had hoped they would be, but they did it in a timely manner, and they did quality work. I would say they are a good company to work with. I think they were pretty expensive.

Joe was on time for the estimate he took his time and went thru everything measured gave me estimates. Jim Burgess came on time worked worked over 7 hrs did a great job. Love my slide shelves.

George was very helpful and did an outstanding job for me. I originally thought I wanted a blind corner cabinet, but he helped me see that another option was better suited for me. One of the double cabinet installations required that he remove the post between the doors. He carefully sanded and stained the spot where it was removed to make it blend with the wood. I would definitely use Shelves Genie again and request George.

Extremely professional and courteous. Jim Burgess did a great job and I now have at least 30% more space than I had before.

They were wonderful! I was pleased with their service. They were prompt and responded appropriately.

On May 9, 2013 I had a design consultation with Dennis. We discussed my needs in detail and arrived at an agreeable design configuration for the pantry and kitchen cabinet. Materials were chosen and I had to put down a 50% deposit. On May 17, 2013 the installer, John, took measurements. On June 30, 2013 the shelving was installed. John showed up on time. He worked quickly and efficiently, and was very pleasant to talk to. The balance due was paid in full following the installation.

George was wonderful. He was professional and courteous. He worked promptly and cleaned up after he was finished.

Mr. Dennis Congdon who did the original measurement and design, was prompt, knowledgeable, and personable. The installer did an excellent job verifying the initial measurements, redoing the cabinet doors, and installing the product. We love the extra storage and access the product provides. The overall experience was great, however, the product is a tad expensive.

They were on time, very courteous, and gave us a quote good for one year from the date of the quote. We have not taken them up on the offer yet and have not received any phone calls from them. They were extremely professional, and I know when we are ready financially, I will be happy to do business with them.

We own an investment condo and our tenant inquired about having Shelf Genie put in some glide-out drawers. We thought it was a good idea so we did our research on Shelf Genie. Everything seemed to check out just fine so we made an appointment with Joe Johnson to go over the scope of work and get an estimate. Joe arrived on time for our appointment. He was very pleasant and professional and he provided lots of useful information and tips. Joe listened carefully to the special needs of our tenant and made sure to address all my questions and concerns as the property owner. He gave us a very detailed estimate and we were happy with the price. We chose the classic style which has a lifetime warranty on parts and labor. Joe told us it could take about 5 weeks from the time the order is submitted until the product is delivered and installed but our job took less time (4 weeks). A few days after the initial meeting with Joe, we had a very quick 2nd meeting with Jim (he's the installer) who took the final measurements and made sure everything was correct prior to submitting the order. As soon as the drawers were done, Jim called and made an appointment to come out and do the installation. Jim and his son, (also named Jim) arrived on time for the installation. They brought all the materials in, set to work and they were done in less than 2 hours. The process was professional, quick, relatively quiet and very efficient. When he was done, Jim explained the operation of the drawers and how to remove/re-install them. He reminded us of the lifetime warranty and said if we ever have a problem to just give him a call. They cleaned up the area they had worked in and left it just like they found it. We are very pleased with the quality of the product and the professionalism of the company. Our tenant is thrilled with the new glide-out drawers. I think our next project will be to have Shelf Genie come to our house and do a bit of work here.

I am very happy with the result. The work was completed on time. The communication between the company , installer and myself was great.

I love the shelves. In one cabinet they were able to install a blind corner shelf. The designer was very helpful. We even looked at a few other cabinets I might like to revamp in the future. The carpenter was professional. He installed the slide-outs easily and cleaned up afterwards. The slide-outs are of the finest construction, and are easily cleaned and don't scratch. I would highly recommend this company. I will be calling for more cabinet slide-outs!

Met with the installer. Reviewed options. Decided on the approach. The installer took measurements and order the shelves. The installer came when he received the shelves. It took about a half a day to installed. A spice rack shelf did not work out and the company gave us a refund even though the problem was not with his design. Very satisfied with the product and the installation. They are more expensive than other vendors but are worth the price in the long run.
