Royal trim & paint

HORRIBLE Painter - DO NOT USE!! Here is a painter that no one should ever hire: He talks a good game but can't deliver. I wanted the main floor of my home interior painted in prep for new tenants. I explained to him that it was a short time frame for completion. He assured me multiple times that he and his company were fully qualified and would complete it in time. So I hired him. His price was in line with all other quotes. He not only skipped painting the closets and some ceilings, but did a lousy job overall. Over painting onto trim and baseboards, spray on the floors near the baseboards, drips onto the main parts of floors and lines at ceilings and walls not straight. As it turns out he doesn't have a regular crew and recruited some helpers who didn't show up on the second day and had his teenage son helping him on the third day - who has zero painting skill. It was supposed to be a 2- 2 1/2 day job; it took 3 full days, and he stated he was at the house till 10 pm twice. I had the master bath tub re-glazed and he was there while it was being done. I had instructed him to paint that bathroom 1st. He didn't. Then his son put a ladder with unprotected feet into the tub, so it had to be re-glazed again. As I addressed somethings with him he reassured me that he had indeed painted the closets and ceilings, and he and his son spent about 2 hours removing over paint from the baseboards. He also stated that the job was too fast. He was unorganized, didn't listen to instructions and the job was just too big for him. He also assured me that he had painted all trim and put 2 coats on the wall, he had not done either. The original color shines through slightly. When I told him that I was keeping the wall paint, he stated that he paid for the paint. Well, I paint for it as part of the total job. I kept the remaining wall paint for one color that was over half of a 5 gal pail, and one other color about a 1/4 of a pail. I should've kept the trim paint too - but as I discovered when I tried to wash off some marks on the trim - he used ceiling paint on the trim - it's a flat paint!!! It just washes right off. Oh and I had to repaint the master bath room myself!! And I had asked him to patch a small spot where the shower rod had pulled off paint in a bath that I was going to paint myself, and he did patching on 3 walls in several spots. I had told him that I didn't want him to paint that room, I was doing it myself - he encouraged me to have him do it - I stated it was just one spot of touch up - he was trying to increase the work and price. So then I had to repaint all walls - which I did myself. I found patching mud and or paint in every sink and the two toilets. I had to pull off the pipe in one sink and clean it out. I also spent over another hour removing paint from baseboards and floors and there is still tons left. Oh, I might add that he stated he paints exteriors of homes too. Glad I didn't use him for that!! Hateful experience. Never, never hire this man - he lied, frequently challenged me and does the poorest quality work. I am seriously considering taking him to small claims court. NEVER AGAIN!!
