Outdoor Makeover & Living Spaces

Owner was very polite and ingratiating - a good salesman. Overall, positive impression until we got to ideas for the landscape plan and ultimately, cost. We wanted a traditional/classic landscape design with plantings that reflect the South, such as hydrangeas, gardenias, hostas, crepe myrtles, peonies, etc.. The owner looked less than enthusiastic about my ideas and input. He mentioned that wasn't their normal 'style', but he'd work with me. Then we started talking about prices. He indicated he marked up each plant 2.5, so a $30 dollar plant would cost $75 installed. This may be fine for lots of people, but we have limits on how much we can spend. We were looking to purchase/install over 70 plants in our yard and this markup would have blown our budget. When I commented on this markup, he commented 'welcome to Atlanta'. This didn't sit really well with me! Also, there were no guarantees on the plants. We ended up doing our own landscape plan and purchased almost all our plants through Pikes, who guarantees all their plants for life and keeps up with all your purchases on their data base (no need to keep all your receipts!). We saved $3,000 to $4,000 and our neighbors love our yard!

The crew arrived on time early in the morning and started work immediately. About 45 minutes into the job I could already see a huge difference in our wooded area. The amount of work in the wooded area was massive and the results were absolutely unbelievable. We could see our large lot full of beautiful hardwood trees again. That was just the beginning. The men digging the trench for the drainage pipe managed to dig the trench through the hard Georgia clay. The pipe was buried and covered. After that the magic happened in our back yard. They cleared the area for the steps prepped each spot for the stepping-stones and stairway. After the stepping-stones and stairs were complete they filled the backyard area with mulch. I can?t adequately describe how our back yard was transformed. I can say that the design absolutely worked, the stairs draw your eye and is a focal point in the yard. Beautiful!! The front yard design included adding new bushes, replanting existing bushes and pulling out several old holly bushes. By moving around the existing plants combined with new rose bushes the planting beds pop with color and make our home look great. The crew worked for 12 hours straight with only a short lunch break. They were by far the best workers I have every seen. The supervisor Joe was on site and kept me updated. Navid worked with us to deliver us a great yard within our budget. He came out and worked up an itemized quote so we could decide what we wanted done at the price we could afford. When the job started he arrived within 30 minutes of the crew. He reinforced the design with the crew describing where to place each step, the stepping-stones and the plants. He came back a few hours later to make sure the design was meeting my expectations and again communicated to the crew what he wanted done. The result is stunning. We now have a beautiful front yard and back yard. I would recommend Outdoor Makeover to anyone who needs to transform their landscape whether you have no idea where to start or know exactly what you want. Navid will work with you and by far exceed your expectations.

The end result looks great! Any issues that came up (especially in a project of this magnitude) were promptly resolved to our satisfaction. Navid and his crew have no problem going the extra mile. I would add that Navid's concept was something that we had not initially considered (stairs) and really provided a great highlight to the new retaining wall.

Omid came up with a beautiful design, which was executed masterfully by his crew. I cannot say enough about the foreman, Geraldo. At least three times, he suggested changes to the design which were wonderful. I was impressed with the work, but also with the additional things that they did that were outside the scope of the work. They installed a cabinet and all the fixtures in my powder room and an exhaust fan that had been omitted by the builder for no charge. Omid suggested upgrades during the project with an eye to little or no maintenance for me that I was grateful for since I am now a widow. The work is beautiful and the completed project a delight. I had to put a clock on the porch because it is such a haven that hours pass before one is aware of it. I never hoped to have such a perfect addition to my home.

What impressed me most were the additional details that Navid suggested, including a "kitchen garden", which has been wonderful. The irrigation system is terrific and the lighting a comforting feature. I was particularly pleased with the "no maintenance" aspect of the yard. Slate chips are down one side of the house, freeing both my neighbor and I from mowing duties. The small usable part of the back yard and the other side yard are all bark chips, so the only lawn I have is a small patch in the front yard. As a new widow, I was grateful for their insight and suggestions. They were also open to ideas for design improvements from their employees and when they were working on the front yard, Navid suggested field stone steps, which are gorgeous. A number of items were included at no additional cost to me. Due to the size of the porch, the retaining wall in the back yard ended up much larger than originally thought in the estimate, yet I incurred no additional expense. All told, the employees were professional, kind, courteous, warm and friendly, and the yard is absolutely beautiful. I would recommend them with no reservations and would certainly use their services again.

Navid and his family and crew made this process great fun. They were courteous, prompt and attentive. Since we had no clue how we wanted it to look. Navid had his work cutout for him. There was some problem solving and they were up to it. We are now enjoying the great outdoors before it gets too hot.

My entire interaction during the process was primarily with Navid, the owner. He came for the 1st appointment and spent a lot of time with me to understand what I wanted to do and my tastes. I hadnt really thought about what I wanted so I let him throw options at me and there were quite a few! It was amazing how much you could do with a small backyard and deck! He was very easy to talk to and interact - not the usual contractor type who want a list of things, give you a quote and leave. They are very committed to their work and take pride in the end result and that was evident from the beginning all the way to the end. There were some surprises along the way, which they handled, added some extra features (at no extra charge) to make sure the end result was correct, constantly checked the work and re-did if they werent satisfied with the outcome. We knocked down the deck railing and added steps to the yard and the ground was uneven so the steps were a little higher than they should be. Navid's brother who is in the contruction business had done the steps but wasnt happy so they agreed to re-do them and make them safer and upto code. They started the work on the dates we had discussed and I had a chance to meet some of the crew when I came home at 8pm and they were still there, finishing up. They cleaned up after themselves and took the time to do it right. Most days they started before I left home and were still there when I got home. They still finished within 3 days - I guess that's the benefit of not using sub-contractors. The staff were all employees of the company and very dedicated. I would definitely use them again when I am ready to tackle the front yard. In talking with Navid, he mentioned that his brother, Omid, was in the construction business. I had 2 bathrooms that need remodelling so he got him us in touch. Omid was great to work with, took a lot of time to review what I had, what I wanted done, made suggestions on what I should and should not do to improve the overall value, made suggestions on what and where to buy the supplies, even went with me several times to ensure we didnt make mistakes. The whole remodelling effort lasted a couple of weeks as we dealt with surprises (always a given with a remodel project!). They was no high-presssure selling, just options and I made my own decisions on what to do. Throughtut the whole process, it really helped to work with people who communicated well, constantly kept me updated on progress and were really wonderful to work with.

Navid and his crew did a very nice job of designing and installing our new front and rear landscaping, including helping with some drainage issues we were having around our yard. They also installed a lovely new circular flagstone patio and fire pit adjacent to our pool that's now a centerpiece of our yard. Perhaps most importantly, they replaced several plants that didn't make it they the winter, which we appreciate. Not the cheapest, but quality matters and we would definitely recommend and would use Outdoor Makeover again.

Outdoor Makeover is fantastic family owned and operated landscape design and installation company. Actually ... describing Outdoor Makeover as "landscaping" does not capture everything this company can do --- yes landscape design and installation, but also a licensed plumber (water lines, sprinkler, gas lines) and licensed home builder and remodeler. We checked Angies List and Yelp reviews and after the initial consult with Navid for an estimate we had Outdoor Makeover complete our landscape design for both the front yard and the back yard. This was an interactive DESIGN PROCESS about how we use our yard ... not the typical yard plat drawing with beds drawn in. It was through this process that we built a friendship with Navid and decided Outdoor Makeover would make our yard fantastic. Once started, the work was extremely fast with the owners and a project manager onsite every day. The quality of work and materials was top notch as well- note: not all contractors use grade 1 materials and construction techniques. The company motto seems to be: "I'm happy when you're happy" and there was excellent communication throughout the entire project. We are extremely happy with our new backyard and look forward to completing the front yard next year. This is a Class A company and we highly recommend them for home projects!

This was really unbelievable. I had essentially let my backyard run amuck for 5 years and was at a point where I did not know even where to begin. Fortunately, Navid not only knew where to begin but had a vision as to where we would end up. Once the job started he and his crew worked vehemently for 2 days to get there. In 48 hours my yard went from a disaster to something you would see at a resort. I used to dread having to step out to my yard but now I am now relishing every time I see it.

I had been told that it would be a 2 or 3 weeks before they could get started. However, they started the project earlier than expected, which was great. Navid introduced me to the crew and supervisor and the men got to work. His crew were amazing, very,polite, neat, and professional. Each day I was walked through what was done and asked if I was happy with the work, which I was. Omid and Navid and their crew went over and beyond to ensure that I was happy. I was thrilled with the little extras that also got done with this project. The crew ended up cutting down a few more small trees than expected, attached a gutter, buried some drainage pipes that had never been buried, ect. All at no additional cost. I couldn't be happier and my yard has never looked better. I would highly recommend Outdoor Makeover to anyone looking to have outdoor work done.

We hired outdoor makeover to landscape the yard and we were very satisfied. They spent lots of time with us planning. When their team arrived they worked very hard and were amenable when we asked for a couple things to be adjusted. Not cheap, but service and work was high quality.

Navid and his crew nailed it again. I have a current mow and blow service that quoted me $1000 more for a far less superior product. Navid gave me more than I was expecting and had the work done in a half the time expected. His crew had me review the final product and when I pointed out things that needed changes/adjustments they jumped right on it. No arguing or negotiating to not have to do the additional work. They just said, "yes sir" and knocked it out. Outdoor Makeover is one of the highest rated vendors on Angie's List for a reason. You won't be disappointed!

Navid and his crew are amazing. They not only met our expectations but went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. He gave us more plants that we had originally asked for and didn't charge us any extra. After about a year when some of those plants had died because the harsh winter he came back and replaced ALL OF THEM! They are by far the most professional crew I've ever worked with.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. The gentleman was knowledgeable and professional. We didn't go to the next level because the economy moves up and down. I was glad I used him and I would use him for that job when it comes time. It was limited experience but I felt I would use him. My area of landscaping isn't much bigger than a postage stamp so I didn't pay any additional. The communication was very good as well as the scheduling. I received an email within minutes of purchasing the deal. He was running a little bit later than normal because of being later in the day, but he kept me informed. Based upon my interaction with the gentleman that came out, I would use them.

I was really not very happy here. Instead of receiving an actual tree, he just tried to sell me other trees and services. I wasn’t impressed with his lack of professionalism, either.

Please note that this review is for work done in late 2011. Keep that in mind as you read this and other reviews. We interviewed a few landscaping companies for this job, and based on the combination of excellent reviews here on Angie's List and the fact that Outdoor Makeover had by far the lowest estimate of all the quotes, we decided to use them. First of all, let me say that Navid is a very personable and pleasant man. He behaves professionally, and I believe that he truly wants to do excellent work for his clients. Unfortunately, we found the work done by his crew was not what we had hoped for. Pros: --Seems like he listens, --Tries to accommodate customer wants (such as using native plants), --When problems were brought to his attention, Navid always tried to make it right, --Trimmed an existing hedge to neaten the area even though it was not part of their scope of work, --Adapted well to additions to the work (at extra cost, of course, but we expected that), --Moved a pile of pea gravel out of the way of their work, without an additional charge Cons: --Substituted plants on estimate for other plants (maybe those on sale?) at last minute without consulting us, some with drastically different effects on the landscape appearance, --There was no plan that we saw ahead of time. He seemed to decide where everything would go as they were working, --Did not know when crew was going to show up each day, --Placement and grouping of some plants did not make sense, leaving a scattered appearance (like putting yucca plants next to creeping yew - a desert-style plant next to a northern-style evergreen) --Crew lacked attention to small details, like planting the hollies for a hedge the same distance from the house, or with equal spacing from each other, --Crew seemed to be unfamiliar with the needs of some plants, such as which need to be planted with the rootball high, --Crew had great difficulty finding the existing irrigation, and did not completely refill the holes they dug to hide them when done, --Crew pulled up the phone line while digging (fortunately, we do not use a landline), and exposed the cable line while digging. The cable line was not reburied when they were done, and the phone line will need replacing from the phone company if we ever want to use it. --Some perennials nearing the end of their season were treated poorly, and looked trampled upon installation, --Drip irrigation was in some places held down by rocks moved out of existing border edges and french drains instead of tacked, --Hole drilled through garage wall for irrigation control was not caulked. --Does not seem to be an expert on irrigation systems - brought in another person for advice after things were not going well. Considering the volume of positive reviews on this site, we were quite surprised that there were so many issues, minor as they may seem. Considering the expectation people have of a yard at a house in our neighborhood, we will not be using Outdoor Makeover again. Update, 4/9/14 After this review was posted, Navid contacted me. Even though it has been a long time since the work was done, he offered to try to do something to help make us happy. We declined, but appreciated the effort. All of the above points had been discussed with him immediately after the work was completed. He says they learned what they could from our feedback, and have grown in the last couple of years.

Outstanding work from Outdoor Makeover! We had our struggles with previous landscaping companies, promising to deliver everything we needed and wanted. Simply, we had been blindsided and left with little to show for it! Needless to say, this time around it was going to be very different! From the first conversation with Navid to the last it was easy. Navid spent a lot of time WITH US working out what we needed functionally and what would look good aesthetically. As soon as the decisions were made the work commenced. His crew was great, polite, and punctual. It was refreshing to hear a crew speak so highly of the company they work for and specifically their boss. Some of his crew has been with him for 10 years which speaks volumes. Navid was here personally managing the job from start to finish. All of the materials are beautiful, the quality was excellent and the placement of everything was perfect. Navid has a great eye for what he does! We couldn't be happier with the transformation and would definitely use this company again as well as refer them to anyone.

Navid tackled a wide variety of challenging issues at our home and we couldn't be happier with the end product. He did everything from designing our new front landscape to getting his hands dirty, and everything in between. We did get some competing quotes and he cost a bit more than the competition, but it was worth every penny. If you want peace of mind that your job is going to be done right the first time, go with Navid.

Everything was perfect. Navid was great to work with from planning to execution. Anything that came up during the job, they took care of it instead of charging you more money. While they might not be the cheapest, they got the job done right, on time and don't nickle and dime you. They even took care of some small jobs around the yard.

It was not nearly as well. It was mediocre. What they originally planned on doing they did very nicely but I felt bait and switch on the whole thing.

The guys were great and they have great ideas. they spent two hours. If I had the money, I would hire them. The price was excellent. They told me that if I would have somebody to come out, I make sure that certain things were done. They were very helpful for their advise.

Navid was great to work with. He came to our home several times in advance to discuss what we were looking for and he provided a number of options and suggestions. We discussed the budget we were thinking of and Navid worked with us to prioritize the work. We had lots of questions (as we haven't had landscaping work of this scope done before) and Navid took the time to explain what needed to be done. They were able to start the job pretty within a week or so and work was done quickly and efficiently. The crew was professional and courteous and cleaned up the site on a daily basis. They welcomed walk throughs and were happy to discuss what they were working on and the anticipated schedule. Communication was very good and Navid came out to walk the site and ask if we had any comments or concerns on a daily basis (even later in the evenings to better handle our work/family schedule). At the final walk through we requested one minor change and it was taken care of immediately. Navid made it clear up-front that he does not like to up-sell in the middle of the project or try to slap on additional charges...and he was true to his word. He kept with the budget we had discussed and even did a few extras at no cost. It is great to work with a company that sticks to their quote and doesn't try to nickel-and-dime you throughout the entire project. The work was almost entirely for our backyard space. We will likely be adding some additional items there and landscaping the front yard in the future, and we'll definitely be contacting Outdoor Makeover for that project as well. They did a great job and I clearly understand why they are highly rated and have won numerous awards. Highly recommend them.
