Came out on the weekend. Came on time. Finsished on time. Charged what they said they were going to charge. Overall good experience. Very good customer service.
Description of Work: Checked both air conditioning systems. Needed duct work done. I was not getting air into the new addition of my home. Moncrief was able to fix the problem. They tore out existing duct work and replaced with new duct work.

A really positive experience. Called after 6:00 p.m. because my air wasn't working (4 year old unit) and I care for my 93 year old handicapped mother in my home. Their schedule was full but they contacted a tech that said he would take the call. He was at my home in 30 minutes. Minor problems with my system and an extremely reasonable charge. It is working beautifully. The company could have taken advantage of the situation and charged excessively. Wonderful tech and great company!

I just moved into this house. I paid $75 to the realtor for his HVAC repairman checking that the system was working properly. The Moncrief repairman I called checked out the electric unit in the attic, changed the air return vent filter, checked the freon, and flushed the coils in the part of the air conditioning system that sits outside. He said the coils had not been washed in quite awhile. He also pointed out to me that the new drop-down ceiling door to the attic stairs did not fit tightly and was letting air escape into the attic, which runs up the electric bill.
Description of Work: Summer maintenance and cleaning of air conditioning system, including washing the coils in the unit that sits outside, checking the freon, and changing the return air vent filter.

They make an appointment every six months to make sure the system is running properly, change the filters, and check the fluids and so forth. I am very satisfied with the contract I have with them. They call me when it is time to make an appointment, they always show up on time, they are done within 25 or 30 minutes, and there is no extra charge beyond the maintenance agreement. When I have had a problem in the past, they’ve been here within three hours and there has been no charge.

This is my 2nd great experience with Moncrief. My first was an A/C installation 20 yrs ago. That unit needed replacement, so I verified with Angies List that Moncrief is still a highly rated company. Their A rating encouraged me to proceed with an estimate. The Engineer was right on time, in uniform, and very professional. He computed my cooling needs and recommended a system. He gave me a price that included everything, including haul away of my old unit and an Angies list discount. I had a choice of installation dates beginning 2 days later. The 2 man uniformed crew arrived right on schedule at 8:30am and had my new system up and running by 3 pm. There were several challenges they encountered, but they had a great positive attitude and got the installation done just the way I wanted it. They cleaned up completely when they were done. The installers were very knowledgeable, professional and worked well together. The Engineer stopped by a few days later to make sure everything was satisfactory. I couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Moncrief to a friend or relative. They may not always have the lowest price quote, but I think they are competitive. The peace of mind that everything is being done right is well worth doing business with these folks in my view.
Description of Work: Installed a new Mitsubishi mini split 1400btu inverter air conditioner and heat system with SEER of 21 Some rewiring, a new drain and coolant line was required for installation Removed my old compressor and indoor air handler and disposed of it.

I did my homework. I looked at all the providers in Angie's List and chose Moncrief. Now when I looked, they didn't have the greatest reviews. HOWEVER....I took a chance and I am glad I did. They came out quickly and figured out the problem within 15 minutes. Then it took 30 minutes to fix the ignitor. The guy who came out was very professional and very curtious. I thought the price was fair given that they had to come out on a Sunday.

Response from Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning
Ahh the internet… The service tech in question has been with Moncrief for 30 years—very knowledgeable, very experienced. He does not have an aggressive bone in his body—very calm. This was a first time visit by Moncrief. System a mess. Clothes drier vent stopped up causing lint problem. A lot of problems. She only flipped out to learn there was a charge to return to clean the drier vent, even though she was only to pay for that service one time. Her allegations are simply not true.

Response from Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning
This person looks like they may be in Texas. So perhaps this is a rental. Anyway, figuring out what a heating and air conditioning company charges for service by inquiring over the phone is virtually impossible. Companies charge differently. There are no apples to apples comparisons. Many companies have a low, get-in-the-door price they give over the phone and then go for the extra billings once inside the home. Moncrief tries to be realistic when giving a price over the phone. We do not sugarcoat the cost. The fees for Moncrief services are very fair and competitive. Remember, this person did not spend any money with Moncrief.

We arranged an appointment for this company to completely replace a residential heating and air condition system. The sales representative came out and we discussed the equipment selection, options and particular details of the job. All seem good, until the sales representative really understood that Moncrief was being evaluated against its competitors, for pricing, services, and responsiveness, to include installation time. At which point, the sales representative simply declined to provide a quote for the job. I have had this same service performed in two prior residences. The job is straightforward and relatively easy as compare to other residential situations. My impression is that the sales representative did not like being in a clearly competitive situation where he was being ask to provide specific services and respond in specific time frames.
Description of Work: Only a request for a quote was made. No services were offered or performed.

Response from Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning
No Harm. No Foul. Our experienced sales representatives see hundreds of Moncrief and prospective clients a month—several thousand a year. This particular rep is a 15 year Moncrief veteran. Rarely, very rarely (maybe only 3 or 4 times a year), our people determine it is best if we don’t do business with someone at any price. The writer of the above negative comment perhaps should have thanked us for having the guts to walk away from a job where the two parties were not compatible. If you check all the negative comments of all the contractors in all the trades on Angie’s List, absent will be any complaint regarding any company who simply elects not to quote a job. Hmmmm.

Great experience. The rep who came for the estimate proposed a much less expensive repair than another company who evaluated the job. The Moncrief workers arrived on-time and finished earlier than they had projected. Everything works great in the AC. I suspect our heating/cooling costs will do down with the new plenum. I will definitely use Moncrief for any future HVAC updates or repairs.
Description of Work: The replaced an evaporate coil and pan in AC, added a new drain, and also completely replaced the old, plenum that had been pieced together by a previous own in our ca. 1953 house.

BRAVO! Finally a company that is professional and responsive. Moncrief came in and replaced a 2 year old duct system that ws installed by a "Company" that can be found at a local Home Improvement Store. The duct work was so bad that in was not salvagable based on three other estimates. So I went with Moncreif to fix my problem. They replaced all ducts, fixed the AC vent boots and added elbows where applicable. The original ductwork was kinked, bent and not attached appropriately. Since they replaced the duct work, the AC is perfect!!!! My AC runs less, the house cools evenly and the tempeerature from room to room is even. I RECOMMEND this company and hope all future AC cusotmers will give them a chance. They are very responsive and by far the best comapny I have worked with since moving to ATL.

Their rates were shocking and so much higher than anyone else's that we simply couldn't justify hiring them despite the great reviews on this list. Their quote was $59 service fee PLUS $38/quarter hour. The actual repair took another local, well rated company 1 hour to repair. Had we gone with Moncrief, we would have paid $211/hour. In the end, the HVAC company that performed the repairs had a cancelation and fixed our unit the same day we called at far less than half the rate quoted by Moncrief.
Description of Work: In the heat of the summer we asked them to repair our HVAC unit. They were scheduling 4 days out and were able to give us a 3 1/2 hour window for an appointment. They were responsive and professional and candid about bother their heavy schedules and service rates.

Downstairs unit wasn't cooling. First we had CoolRay out and they said we needed full unit replacement for $6,200 (less $2,200 tax credit) or they could fix it for $1,900. We called out Montcreif to get a second opinion before spending all that money and they diagnosed the problem as a capacitor and fan motor which they repaired for $200. There was nothing wrong with the compressor!

Moncrief was responsive from the very call. Had a good discussion about the project during the estimate and was presented with 3 options as requested. Project began on schedule. It took a little longer than expected, due to materials (and rats), but the installation team did a very good job of communicating with me throughout. They worked very hard under difficult weather conditions and I was very satisfied with the result. There were a few things overlooked at the very end, but they returned immediately and corrected the issues. This was a flood recovery project and they were very helpful even after the work was completed in providing information for documentation that I needed to maintain.

We called them for a second opinion after another company quoted us $1200 for a new line vs punching a hole in the ceiling to fix a refrigerant line caused by a roofer's nail. They were exceptionally helpful and pleasant when I called that day and the following day sent Larry who was great. He was able to take a picture of the hole in the line and fix the line in the attic without having to go thru the ceiling. He also put our minds to rest that the air conditioner did NOT need replacement b/c of the leak. We know we need to replace our heating and air in the next couple seasons and will definitely give Moncrief a call.

The employees always arrived within the agreed upon timeframe. The company always called in advance of an employee's arrival. They were always polite and professional. There was some risk that the compressor had been damaged and would not restart. It appeared that it had been exposed to the atmosphere for some time and that water may have gotten into the system. The only way to find out was to repair the tube, recharge the system, and attempt to restart it, a significant expense ($700). If the compressor did not restart, due to the changes in technology and environmental laws, replacing it might not be possible. The repairman suggested that a new system might not be much more expensive than total cost of discovering the compressor was bad and then replacing it, if that was even possible. (He naively thought a new system was in the $3000-$4000 range.) The company was eager to make the quote on a new system ($5000+), but not so enthusiastic about researching the availability of parts and prices for compressor replacement. However, after I pointed out that I certainly would not buy a new system without getting quotes from other providers, and that I could not make a decision to buy without knowing what the potential repair costs were for the old system, they gave me a quote on replacing the compressor should it be necessary ($2400). Happily, the system restarted without a problem, so my total cost was $700.
Description of Work: A wire had shorted and blown a hole in a tube in the outdoor unit. All coolant had been lost. The tube was repaired, coolant replaced and system restarted. An engineer made a quote for replacing the system with a new one.

Received a quote used by my insurance company to repair a flooded part of our system (due to a washer overflow that entered a floor vent.) The service men arrived on time, worked through the day, did exactly what they said they'd do plus made a minor repair on our dryer vent connection that was not detected until the ceiling was opened. They showed me the repairs when finished, cleaned up thoroughly, and hauled off the old material. I've used them before and would do so again!

I had a leak above my kitchen which I suspected may have been from my A/C unit that occupies the space above my kitchen ceiling. I called Moncrief to have someone come out and look at my A/C. They were able to send out someone the next day I'd be available to be at home. The technician, Barry, was on time and was very friendly. He was able to determine that the leak was not coming from any part of my A/C unit, but was from another pipe in the same area. He also made some adjustments to the shoddily installed piping connected to my A/C unit and replaced a pipe that needed to be replaced. I was very pleased with the work done and am considering signing up for their service contract. If I encounter any problems with my A/C unit, Moncrief will be my first call.
Description of Work: Determined that the source of a leak was not my A/C unit and replaced a few parts.
