The supervisor, who came out in response to my earlier review, was very professional and did not make me feel like he was talking down to me. It was a vast improvement over the man who originally came. I evidently got them on a bad day. I will tell people who ask me for my experience with Moncrief that they made the situation right with me.
Description of Work: After reading my initial review, Jake called me and apologized for his serice man's behavior. He doubted my statements but wanted to make it up to me. He made an appointment and came himself. he again let me know that this was unusual and not their normal review. He wanted to make it up to me and I had him check some work done by another provider. He disagreed with the other companies threats about our breaker box. I thanked him for his opinion and told him I would write a revie founded on his visit. He was not at all like the tech who came at first.

the man came on time, looked at the a/c and furnace and wrote out the estimate. He did not explain what needed to be done nor did he seem interested in our business. He hurried way. leaving us feeling like we were not up to his standards. He made sure I paid for the visit.
Description of Work: came to give me an estimate on our a/c unit. Not very friendly and talked to me like i was not able to understand him. He spent 5 mins with our unit and told me it needed to be replaced. very confusing explanation. took my $79 and left.

I spoke with this customer to discuss this situation shortly after she posted her review because there appeared to be some confusion concerning her experience with her visit from Moncrief—she did say that she had a couple of different companies out to look at the system and might have confused some of the facts. Her review was posted on July 8th and the service visit actually occurred four months earlier on April 4th. According to our GPS records, our technician spent approximately 1.5 hours at her home attempting to correct a wiring problem with her system that our technician attributed to a “repair” put in place by another company. The customer was only charged a $95 diagnostic charge (not the $79 she alluded to)—quite a deal for the amount of work that was performed. Our technician did recommend that the system be replaced but, per our usual protocol, would not have quoted the replacement—we leave that task to our installation engineers to assure that the customer is well-informed of all their choices and that the new system is engineered to perform as well as possible. I apologized to the customer if her experience with Moncrief was, in fact, not as positive as we would all have liked it to be and promised that we would do everything in our power to make sure that future experiences would live up to her expectations, but, again, it sounded like she may have confused her experience with Moncrief with that of another company.

I live in an area where there is a limited number of qualified hvac companies. I've had several companies diagnose the hvac and air quality problems we have been having and get contradictory information and differing opinions on what to do, if anything. Feeling a bit frustrated, I contacted Moncrief as I remembered their name and reputation from living in Atlanta for many years. I got a recommendation from a trusted source to contact Ken Briggs, and I couldn't be more impressed with his professionalism and willingness to help. He spent a good deal of time with me on the phone over the course of several conversations trying to help me get to the root of my air quality issues. I don't live in the Moncrief service area, and I made that clear when we first spoke. Yet, he didn't hesitate to speak with me and try his best to help. This speaks volumes about his character. He made it seem like it was no big deal at all, yet I'm sure he is as busy as anyone else and I so appreciated the fact that he took the time to help me. Moncrief is truly fortunate to have such a valuable employee. Thank you so much for your generous help, Mr. Briggs. I wish there was a Ken Briggs where I live!

I was out of town on business for 3 weeks. My house sitter called me, and informed me that my upstairs ac had gone out. I had a 30 year old 2 ton ac unit replaced with a new 16 SEER 2.5 ton unit. They put in the new unit the day I was returning. When I got around 6 pm in that evening, it was still 80 degrees upstairs. I called them after a couple of days, and told them I was surprised the new unit wasn't working as well as the old unit did until it broke. They sent a gentlemen over I believe the same day. He discovered a damaged duct that was pulling air in from the attic. It was located where they were working. He patched it up and left. It helped, but I was still surprised at the poor performance of the new unit. Another gentleman came over and said that I needed some upgrades. He explained to me that the upgrades would normally cost around $1000.00, but he felt I should have been given the option to purchase the upgrade at the time of the new install. He said he could get it done for $500.00. I agreed. the new upgrades would be replacing the return air box on the side of the furnace with a new metal box. All new sealed fitting connections, and an external filter rack would also improve air infiltration. The return air plenum would be an upgrade over the existing return air box that that was currently leaking air. I have had the upgrade done and am well pleased. The installer they sent over was conscientious and a hard worker. I felt he went the extra mile, so to speak, to make sure it was done right. Now the system is working up to my expectations. In all fairness I feel the whole experience would have gone smoother, if I had been present. I wished I had been present for both the original estimate, and the final install. It is working as expected now, so there's comfort in that.
Description of Work: Installed a 2.5 ton Carrier 24ACC630A003 air Conditioner. Installed a Carrier CNPVP3017ATA coil. Installed a return air supply to the bonus room above the garage. Replace the return air box on the side of the furnace with a new metal box. All new sealed fitting connections, and an external filter rack.

I lost air conditioning after the condo association had installed a new roof on my condo. I had Montcrief come out to fix the problem not knowing that one had to do with the other. The service rep diagnosed the problem almost immediately after filling the compressor tank and hearing the hiss of the leak in the eaves of the roof. There was nothing he could do that day, as I had to work with my condo association.Later that week, with no help from my condo association, I made an appointment with the roofer to come out, but also had Montcrief schedule the same service agent out at the same time. Now this may not seem like much, but when I called Montcrief the day before, they told me that agent (who had seen me on saturday) was not available. After discussing the issue with the scheduler, Montcreif arranged it so that he would come out in the morning to be there when the roofer would be there. The roofer could not believe that he hit the ac line. The Montcrief agent was so professional and reliable, that the roofer went ahead and cut a hole in the decking of the new roof. There they saw that a nail had pierced the ac line. How many ac service agents would know that was the problem? I cannot believe how helpful and reliable that Montcrief was on those two visits. I now have wonderful air again. The roofer contracted and made arrangements with Moncrief to repair the line there and then. I didn't even have to wait for the reimbursement. I cannot say enough about the service agent, John. He was wonderful. He was on time, professional, knowledgable and flexible. He was ready to do the work as soon as the go light was given. I then bought the maintenance plan from Montcrief. I would use them again and again.
Description of Work: I lost my air conditioning after a new roof was put on. The roofer and the condo association did not believe that it was caused by the roofer. The Montcrief service agent, John, diagnosed the problem then worked with the roofer to fix the hole and get the ac back on.

These guys came in 2 hours after I called and the system is running better than it ever has. I was using someone else to service the units annually and now I think they weren't doing anything but changing the filters. Love it. I'm a new customer for life!!

The technician was on time and courteous. My A/C wasn't blowing any cold air, so he checked the air handler first, then checked the heat pump. The freon was very low, 1.5 pounds in a 3.5 pound system, so he charged the unit with freon. The air was fine after that. He did a check for leaks from the evaporator coil "on the house" and showed me that the coil was losing coolant from several spots. He recommended that an engineer come have a look about a system replacement since it was impossible to tell how long the coolant was leaking - the main issue being that the coil had several leaking spots. Overall the service went well. The price was a function of the high price of freon ($90 or so per pound), so it could have been any HVAC company getting dinged on the price issue.

So the beginning of June our downstairs AC went on the blink...having posted a "does anyone know anyone who can fix my AC" on FB and got nowhere i joined Angies List. I chose MONCRIEF because they had an A* rating plus they had the best reviews, so i gave my hubby their phone #..He called them Friday afternoon and was told that someone would call us about 2.00pm on the Saturday afternoon and give us a time as to when the engineer would be out...Promptly at 2.00pm a very friendly lady called me and told me that Chris would be here in the next 45 mins or so...40 mins later Chris knocks on the door...my hubby goes to talk wth him, and 15 mins later the AC is fixed and i now hve cool air in the downstairs of my house...Now dont ask me what the problem was...cause i wouldn't have a hope in h*** of explaining that to you...but what i do know is whatever it was was fixed... Thank You Chris C for fixing the problem and Thank you Moncrief for doing EVERYTHING that you told us you would do...And without a shadow of a doubt we will def use you again and recommend you to all our friends and famiy who might also have AC probs... They provided a good service. The individual I met was very talkative and had no problems walking me through anything I wanted. Before they arrived I knew that my upstairs unit was low on freon, which they confirmed, but they also found there was a leak in the coil. They refilled my freon at a good price. My complaints would be around some costs. For the first visit I had been told to turn off the unit 24 hours ahead of time and I forgot. The unit ended up being frozen over and the guy was unable to give a full diagnosis. I had to reschedule another visit (which they were very accommodating about) and the second guy came the following day and basically repeated all the same steps, came to the same conclusion, and I ended up being charged for 2 visits. I'll admit that it was my fault but the second guy could have started where the other left off and saved some time and money. Second issue was about replacing the coil. The guy who found the leak was unable to give me a quote. They wouldn't even call in the model numbers to get me a quote later in the day. Instead I had to wait for another visit where all the guy did was look up the model number and look around the attic. The quote I ended up getting was $300 more then another company. All around I was happy with the service provided.

A month after taking care of freon leak, A/C again stopped cooling. Had discussed the possible problem with the coil unit. Called Moncrief again as I was pleased with their previous trip to my home. Also, have seen them come out to several of the townhouses in our community. Ken from Moncrief came out and went over how the unit worked and what needed to be done. He was very thorough and answered my questions. The office called same day to schedule an appointment. Luckily they had a cancellation and were able to come out the next day to install the A/C outside unit and matching evaporator coil. The technician came out, placed covering on my wood floors and proceeded to do the work. He made sure everything was working properly before leaving. It was a hit on my budget but after reviewing, I feel their estimate was within the ballpark of other companies. I would recommend them. .
Description of Work: Note - this is my 2nd report on Moncrief. Despite a previous call to replace freon leak, my old A/C unit finally died. Had to have outside A/C unit and the matching evaporator coil replaced. Moncrief rep first came out to go over work that needed to be done and give me an estimate of final cost. Office called same day to schedule an appointment. Technician came out next day. Removed old equipment and installed new Carrier A/C and matching evaporator coil.

Our A/C stopped working. I called early in the morning and set an appointment for a three hour time window on the same day. My wife took off of work early to make sure she was there during the scheduled time window. We got to the end of our time window and no one showed up. I called and found that no record of my appointment existed. I told them that this was unaccpectable and that if the problem is not corrected quickly I will leave negative feedback on Angie's list. The response was we will make it happen. I had to miss dinner with my family because I had to wait for the repair man to get there at a later time. The repair man did a great job and was compentent. I really felt like he knew what he was doing and I got no negative attitude from him like I have had with other vendors. They made one error in messing up the original appointment time, but they went above and beyond to make it right. A mistake is understandable. They are a good company because they corrected the mistake. I would recommend them to use if you need such service. Make sure you get the name of the person you make the appointment with and I would recommend that a verification call be given a few hours after first contact.

I noticed that the air conditioning system was blowing warm air instead of cool air over the Memorial Day weekend. I checked the thermostat and everything was working there. I went outside and checked the condenser and noticed that the blades were turning but that there was cool air coming from the top of it (I'm used to the air being warmer above the condenser unit). So I figured I'd better get someone to look at it. Since I'm new to GA, I asked my neighbor for a recommendation. I looked up Moncrief's website and left a service request on Monday afternoon and figured they'd call me when they got into the office on Tuesday. Needless to say, I was very surprised that they called me on a holiday to set up an appointment to take a look at the air conditioner. They sent a technician out on Tuesday morning to look at it, had the engineer come out Wednesday morning before I went into work to determine what sized replacement unit I needed, and this morning (Thursday) the technician was here and installed the new condenser and coil. And my house is now cool again. The engineer also recommended that with the higher efficiency systems that they're recommend one more return vent on the main floor. His explanation made sense and in now way did I feel that he was trying to sell me additional services or increase the bill. Adding the return vent this morning cost an extra $200 (if they'd to make a separate trip later it would cost $400-$500). It's a pleasure to work with a company that is prompt and professional.

Gentlemen did an outstanding job. Very professional. Prompt. Work looks fantastic. They installed an extra vent in my basement which has made a world of difference to our level of comfort. I was also very impressed with their clean-up of the job site.

I have been a satisfied customer of Moncrief for 20+ years and have an annual service contract. I called Moncrief to check on a zoned unit that was not blowing cool air. When the tech arrived, he checked all of my units and found that not one, but two units were iced up. The units had to be turned off so the ice could thaw before they could be checked. The tech told me there was nothing he could do until the next day. Moncrief arrived the next day to service the two units that were not cooling. Found units leaking freon, charged them both for about $230. What a relief! Now I have time to decide about replacement or to see if the units make it through the summer. Absolutely no pressure to immediately change out equipment, etc. I asked about SEER ratings and was given some excellent advice as to what was needed for my particular home. I'm hoping Moncrief's equipment prices will be in line with other suppliers when the time comes to upgrade my equipment. Well done and highly recommended!

A few days prior noticed A/C not as cold and after chcking hose, noticed it was "sweating" . Our complex maintenance man checked outside unit and it was his opinion that it was probably a freon leak. Based on Angie's Listing and the fact that this company had serviced other residents in our townhouse community, I called Moncrief. The earliest they could schedule an appointment was for the following Thursday in the afternoon. As promised, Phil was out Thursday afternoon and after checking both inside and outside, determined that it was a small leak in the coil. He felt that adding freon at this time should resolve the problem for a while, maybe until next summer but if I noticed more freon leaking out, to call. He advised that most likely at some future time the coil will have to be replaced. Phil was very courteous and informative and I was grateful that he didn't immediately try to "scare" me into replacing the whole unit. I will definitely use them again and I will be glad to add him to our own community service referral. The cost was for the initial visit, adding the freon, and labor. I felt it was a reasonable charge.

I had a $20 off coupon from Angie's List. It was an advertised special. I was not pleased with the way the office management handled it. I like the company because they do great work. Their technicians know what they're doing. I have trouble with their pricing, and their staff never wants to do anything about it. That just left me upset today. The day they came out, they found other things that had to be done. I had to monitor my husband, so I wasn't paying attention. When I paid the bill, I paid by check. I noticed that they did not give me a coupon or discount. I called them, and spoke with Amy. I asked her if they offer senior citizen discounts, and she said yes. She said I could only have one discount every time they come out. She said that I can only have the senior citizen discount or the coupon. I said that it's not fair because I should've had $20 off anyhow. There was no complaint over the bill or the work, but it was wanting to recoup the discount.

After reviewing the comments on Angie's List, I contacted Moncrief Heating and Air. The receptionist was very friendly and professional. I was informed that a technician would be dispatched to my home within two hours. Within 45 minutes of the initial call, I received a call and was told that the technician was en route to my residence. The technician arrived within 30 minutes of the call. He was very polite and immediately moved to diagnose and repair the broken device. There were no surprises when I received the bill because the receptionist had already explained the standard charges. I am very pleased with the service and would not hesitate to call Moncrief again, if the need arises.
Description of Work: The technician replaced a bad ignitor on the downstairs furnace and cycled the furnace. No problems were encountered when cycled.

The very best we could have hoped for!
Description of Work: Moncrief has continued to provide accurate estimates and performs more then promised every time i use them. We had 3 water heater and a VERY complex system of pipes. The were able to replace two of the water heaters and simplify all plumber to exceed our expectations. Where they really excelled, was the staff that did the work. Trusting, caring people that could not have been more accommodating to my wife,two children and a dog. They were here for three days and it was a very pleasant experience. Moncrief replaced my 4ton package unit 3yrs ago. They have been great to work with and have always given us the confidence that they would treat us fairly. Now they have our hot water business too! We would recommend them to anyone that needs a company that will work with them as a partner well into the future.

Of course, the heat went out at 4pm on a Friday before a long weekend (doesn't it always?). I heard a loud bang come from downstairs. I had heard it before, but the heat usually came on right after, so I assumed it was the heat just bowing ducts in our crawl space. Well, this time, the heat didn't come back on, and I smelled gas in the house. The smell cleared once I opened a window, so I had an idea it wasn't a constant leak, but I erred on the side of caution and decided to call an HVAC company. I tcalled a couple other high-rated options here first (literally just went down the list), but neither could come out until tomorrow, at the earliest. Considering tonight is dropping into the 20's, I kept looking to get an appointment this evening in the hopes of having heat tonight. Enter Moncrief. The woman I spoke with was great, and listened to my entire story, and had me double check for the gas smell to be safe, which was nice. She said she could have a supervisor over to my house in about an hour. Then she ran down the cost with me ahead of his arrival, which was a nice touch as well. The cost was more than the other two companies I called, but I assumed that was due to the last-minute nature of the appointment, so I was fine with that. The breakdown was $59 for the tech call then $41 for each 15 minute block of work. The tech arrived within the hour. He took one look and knew exactly what the issue was. He did his work in a timely manner, then made sure everything was working properly before heading out. And so far, things are working smoothly. The 'bang' I was hearing was actually a few of the burners not igniting due to blocked exchanges, leaking out gas, and then that gas catching fire in the furnace via the pilot. The reason it didn't catch this time was the mini-explosion pulled in a draft that blew out the pilot and burners. Quite happy with the experience, though, price wise, for what the tech did, it's a bit expensive. I get the $59 up-front charge for the 'emergency' call, but $82 for a quick diagnostic and some minor dismantling/vacuuming is a bit steep in my opinion, though from the other prices I received, seems to be par for the course. They were professional, friendly, and very helpful though for this jam, so I'll definitely consider them at the top of my list for future work, so long as the price doesn't keep trending on the high side for future requests.

The service experience was great. I received a phone call letting me know that the service person was on his way out, and he performed the service efficiently, and was willing to answer all of my questions about the units and HVAC in general as I am a new homeowner.

The job cost me $3,000. When they came out to evaluate the system, they gave me the options that I have. They told me that since the coil could not be replaced, they had to replace the system. The system was leaking, and they let it cool for a few days. Since it was summer, they replaced the system for me. The servicemen that came out did the job. They were professional and helpful. They answered all my questions. Basically, they provided excellent service. Their price was in the ballpark with the other companies. I would highly recommend them to anybody else. I do not think you can find anybody better than them. I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning to install a new heat pump system, four months ago. One of the two systems that I have had a coil that died. They came out and evaluated the system. They replaced the whole system. In the past, they have done other little jobs for me. There was additional work done over summer.

I had a new roof put on and the roofer put two nails thru the refrigerant line. A/C went out almost immediately. Called Moncrief on a Saturday and they were here on Sunday! The technician thoroughly evaluated the problem because at the time, we did not know it was connected to the roof job. He found two puncture holes in the line in a place that was not easily repaired. I called the roofer to let him know what had happened. Moncrief coordinated with the roofer to complete the job. New shingles had to be removed to give Moncrief access to the line. They ran a new line and had our A/C back on the same day. The technician that diagnosed the problem, as well as the two technicians that made the repair, were very professional and seemed very knowledgable. The work was scheduled and done promptly. We have used another company to service our system in the past, but with this experience, we will be switching to Moncrief.
Description of Work: Diagnosed A/C problem and then replaced refrigerant line running along roof line line (caused by nail damage.)

Previous A/C company notified me they were no longer servicing my area when I contacted them to investigate a leak of the A/C unit into a vent. Contacted Moncrief and they were able to get me a next day appointment to check leak and service A/C systems. . They were able to ascertain the cause of leak (plumbing, not A/C) and serviced my units. Tech was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and arrived on time. Very impressed and will be using for A/C service in future.
