HEWETT MONTE HOMES

We purchased a new home that was completed by Monte Hewitt after another builder went out of business. The outer frame had been completed but Monte Hewitt completed most of the home. At the end of the 12 months after purchase, we had a punch list of things that were not correct. It took so long for them to respond that we had to contact our real estate agent. As soon as she posted our experience of non-responsiveness on her list serve, we received a call. This was after countless emails and phone calls. We had a few issues that were never resolved. Here are two that stand out: We had out basement partially finished and questioned why the lighting was so dim. The handyman shared that it was because there is an allowance and they just ran out of funds. We had a fixture in there with low lighting when it could have handled much more. We were told that the lighting subcontractors deemed our main lighting fixture as a "walk through>" Interesting when it was the only light. 2. From before we closed, we questioned the unfinished nature of the border above our garage. We had shingles and it left an uneven border above the garage. As other homes in the development were completed others did have a decorative piece placed above the garage. We were told that it was not really a MH home and they were just finishing the original owner's design. That made no sense since they completed the entire exterior and it was their name on the project. 3. They placed lights and outlets in the most random places. Many rooms were left without outlets which we have had to add. It was not just the lack of pride in their own work but their refusal to respond in a timely manner. We left things as best could be. We were not the only other unhappy homeowners in the neighborhood. It is a shame because it is a great house. If you are choosing to buy a home from MH be careful and know that they build and when done, have no sense of customer service or professionalism in response. We were patient beyond belief and it took forever to even get the unsatisfactory responses we received. Buyer beware. If MH wants to refute this, it will be hard based on all the emails I kept along with the listserve experience on record. Maybe their front office will be more tuned in based on the review.
