At first they tried to fix the furnace rather than talk me into replacing it. However, I made the decision to replace it. They did not pressure me in any way, but they were very helpful in letting me make an informed decision. They also happened to give me the best price out of two other estimates. They now have a new customer forever!

 + -1 moreI was a little worried when only one installer showed up but he handled it easily. He was very knowledgeable. I watched him and asked many questions. I did help him run wires to a new thermostat. Follow up has been good. I have no complaints. It all went better than I would have thought. I would definitely recommend Estes for HVAC.
Description of Work: We had a 44-year-old house with a very inefficient original heating unit and 15-year-old air conditioner. I felt compelled to make an HVAC change with the projected increases of natural gas prices. After gas deregulation increased prices it became clear to me that the cost of kilowatts to heat a house was cheaper in Atlanta than the cost of a therm with all the marketing add ons. My goal was to go total electric. Requested 6 bids. Jerry Johnson of Estes was the most knowledgeable and helpful salesman! Estes bid was the lowest. Estes installer took out our old HVAC and installed a heat pump (gas backup). 14 SEER & 9HSPF Goodman. Started about 9am and finished about 6pm. It is mid December & I haven't had the gas turned on yet and we haven't needed it. So far we are total electric. The heat pump is still working into the mid high 20s. Not efficiently but still beats using gas.

 + -1 moreEstes sent out a tech. I showed him to the rooms with the heating/air problem. He immediately suggested putting in 2 zones, without checking the ducts or looking in the attic. He then spent about 5-10 minutes in the attic & measured the air flow in one of my colder rooms with a gage. He said the airflow was fine, he didn't see any problems with the ducts, & suggested a sales person to analyze the zoning system. I paid him $79 for this diagnosis. I had another company come out after Estes, & they immediately solved my problem. They found that the dampers on all 3 ducts for the too hot/too cold rooms were closed! I have no idea how Estes' hand held gage could have read good air flow, with the duct closed. In looking at my receipt again from Estes, under work performed, it says that there are no problems with the furnace & no problems with air flow. Yet he told me he had forgotten to check the furnace when I asked about it, and the ducts were closed. Terrible diagnosis all around.
Description of Work: When I called to schedule an estimate, I explained that the heat and air distribution upstairs was uneven. Two rooms in particular, were hotter/colder by 10 degrees. I told them I needed suggestions and an estimate to even out the air flow. I had already had one estimate and a suggestion to redo our duct work, so I wanted 2 more estimates. They told me there would be a $79 diagnostic fee for this service. I agreed, since the last company had given me an estimate of $1400 to redo all of the duct work.

 + -1 moreI originally thought my AC was leaking. Ron quickly diagnosed the problem as a leaking hot water heater, which he himself could not repair. He did turn off the water to the H.W. heater and showed me how to turn on faucets to help drain the tank. He answered my questions and calmed me down! We have a service contract with Estes, and they have always done excellent work for us.
Description of Work: Ron came to repair what I thought was an AC problem, but he ended up assisting me in another way.

 + -1 moreThey have good service. They were very professional, and he knew what he was doing. The capacitor price on internet was $150, but a relative tells me that it could be purchased for $30-$50. I never resolved that so I wondered if I got slammed on the price of the part. Probably not. One day I'll figure that out, but otherwise, service and results were excellent.

 + -1 moreInitial contact over the phone with dispatch staff was pleasant and professional. Notification call of technician en-route came when staff estimated the day before. The technician seemed in a hurry. He rushed to the thermostat and started the HVAC system before I completed an explanation of the problem. The $69.00 paid does not go toward any additional repairs. Quoted an absurd repair rate of $67.00 every 15 minutes for labor. Did not come prepared to fix the problem only to collect the fee.

They gave us the online discount when we let them know we found out about their company from Angie's List and their website. We will definitely call them again for a quote on future needs.
Description of Work: Our A/C had frozen up, probably because of recent construction dust from a master bath remodel. They had to wait to let it defrost. But when the second serviceman came by, he checked the freon level and found it was low. He added the freon and we found immediate relief, and it continues to work beautifully.

 + -1 moreSam Rhone with Estes Heating and Air Conditioning came to the house to see if he could solve our hot-upstairs problem. He agreed that Mr. Slim would work. We are very happy with the units. The rooms upstairs now are completely comfortable and each has its own thermostat. We don't have to worry about pulling the units out in the winter, they don't take up window space, and there is no air leaking around them. The installation was fairly simple and quick. My only complaint was the installers did not clean very well after they completed their work. In their defense, it was a VERY hot day, and they had to spend most of it on a hot roof. There was one detail that needed correcting. It took two phone calls to get it corrected, but it WAS corrected -- even though we had already paid in full. We are very happy with the job and the follow-up.
Description of Work: We had a very difficult situation with a 50-year old Cape Cod house. The upstairs had inadequate ventilation (because it was designed to be heated, but not air conditioned) and it was too hot in the summer. For many years we have had two window units to provide more air conditioning. The units were unsightly and not very efficient. None of the experts we consulted over the years had an idea that we thought was worthwhile. Mr. Slim was the perfect solution. It does not require ductwork and the main unit can be placed outside. A small hole (about the diameter of a soft drink can) is cut in the house behind the inside unit and the tubing and wires are run through the hole. The inside units are mounted on the walls inside the house.

The day of installation was perfect! They were on time, very courteous, VERY clean, and completed the work sooner than contracted. It was not the lowest bid, but it was the best value, and they were the most professional of bidders. They will be our first call from now on!

 + -1 moreThe sales engineer from Estes was excellent. He spent three hours on a Friday running calculations for a new system as well as looking at my current intake and outake for the system. He determined the builder shorted us on a register which is why our old system was running inefficient. He contacted me over the weekend to verify some information and confirm installation. The installation team was punctual and got the new system up and running. They cleaned up all areas back to the original state. We are very happy with the work and will recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: Installed a new Carrier furnace with digital thermostat. Also had to install one new register for the system.
