In terms of responsiveness, it was “A+”. They were quick in responding. The air conditioner was not working properly. I called them that morning and they were there that afternoon. I would use the services of Estes Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Estes Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. The last time I used their services was last week. The price was about $300 for the job done. They troubleshooted storm and air conditioner central system and replaced the capacitor.

The replaced AC system failed while it was still under warranty but Estes would not repiar it. He said that he had given us a discount at the time of purchasae and so he could not afford to make the repair without charging us. He also explained that the failed part, the compressor, was indeed still under the manufacturer's warranty so I could hire another AC person to obtain a free replacement part and then have him install it for a fee. Estes was a real old-fashioned money-is-everything kind of southern gentleman. NEVER TRUST ESTES.

Our technician was terrific. The office, however, leaves much to be desired in the area of customer service. We were given a timeframe of 12:00 noon-5:00pm for the repair. I had to take a vacation day in order to get this work completed. I hadn't heard anything from Estes by 5:00pm so I called to inquire where the technician was. At that point I was told "he is running late." I called again several times when the technician didn't arrive, and were subsequently told more than once that it "would be another 15-20 minutes." Finally, at 8:15 pm the technician arrived. At no point did anyone from their scheduling department call me to let me know they were having problems with the schedule. I understand we are in an excessive heat wave and they had emergency calls now, but if they had made a simple phone call to explain, this illwill could have been completely avoided. It seems as though their scheduling department has no regard for their employees workload, nor for the time of their customers.

The technician, Michael, arrived on time for the scheduled appointment. He was professional, courteous, efficient and informative. He stated that the system was not cooling like he would prefer and recommended that an upgraded more efficient A/C unit be considered for the future.

Estes was quick to respond. The service tech, Hank Cox, was very polite and explained the issues with the heater effectively. He recommended that we get our heater replaced as it was over 30 years old and had some major issues going on. After reviewing the estimate and talking possible price for a new heater, I agreed. He said he would have a salesman call and later that day Leverne Jackson called. I met with Laverne and we discussed the situation. Leverne knew exactly what I was looking for and the next morning a crew arrived to remove the old heater and install the new one. Overall everyone was polite and professional. We are also happy with the price.

I have had good experiences with Estes in the past (including an A review that has been previously submitted), but this was a rare unpleasant experience. My experience began on a bad foot when I felt I was led to believe that we were being quoted prices for units that qualified for certain tax credits. After agreeing to the price under this assumption, I learned during the installation that the units did not qualify for the tax credits. This was disappointing, but nonetheless, we decided to keep the units after some discussion with the sales department about other pricing options. The most disturbing part of this experience was actually about a month after the installations when the gas needed to be shut off to our house by the gas company. While re-connecting the gas lines, a gas company inspector pointed out that an exhaust pipe had not been re-attached and he stated that this would cause carbon monoxide poisoning if not fixed. (Note: I have since spoken with Tommy Estes who informed me that even if this had occurred that the shut-off valve would have prevented anything like that from occurring. Regardless, Estes had not completed the installation and had not bothered to inform us that they had not completed it.) We contacted Estes who scheduled someone to come out to look at the units. That person suggested some changes to the vents and had to schedule another crew to come out to do the work. On their third visit of this (now over two months after the initial purchase and installation) they finally connected everything correctly. I will say this, about the experience - once we found the right person, they did more work than was included in the original scope of the job. Additionally since submitting this review (this is an revised review of the original that was taken from a phone call from Angie's List), Tommy Estes has called me several times to get to the bottom of what happened here which is a sign that they take their customer service concerns very seriously - something to be admired and respected. Everyone makes mistakes, and I am hopeful that this review is an anomaly and they go back to the great service that I have received from them over the years.

12-1-10 update: Today I had a good conversation with this customer and determined that on the day of installation our guys were unable to complete the installation and were delayed in getting back to finish but it did not affect the operation of the air conditioning. This job did not go as smoothly as planned but all of the customer’s issues have been addressed and he is satisfied.

Outstanding! The crew arrived on time, discussed with me the various ways it could be installed, were considerate in making cosmetic changes, did an excellent installation, gave me a thorough briefing on its operation, and were finished by early afternoon. Estes gave me the best sales presentation and price. They'll be my first call next time.
Description of Work: After enclosing a porch with glass windows, panels, & doors, we needed some form of climate control. After considering all alternatives and getting three bids, we selected Estes to install a "mini-split" heat pump system.

I have a yearly contract with them. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are prompt. They come out when I call them. They come out on weekends, if I have an emergency. They come on time and their work is excellent. I have used them exclusively for 20 years. Their price is probably higher than other companies, but their service is worth it. I will use them in the future, too.

They didn't even look at the second air conditioning unit. The issue was addressed but I do not know what they did. They were on time though.

I just didn't trust them and felt like they were just trying to up sell me without really taking the time to diagnose. They charged me for the repair call, but didn't repair anything, nor was the repairman concerned about the fact that I had no air conditioning upstairs and it was 85 degrees outside. The other company I ended up using, took the time at their own initiative, to give me temporary service until I could make my decision as to whom to use, and get it replaced. They treated me like a person, rather than a "number" and they didn't charge me for a service call. They just did this because they knew what they were doing and cared. Needless to say, I went with the other company and wouldn't use Estes again. I did feel comfortable with the Estes salesman, but he wouldn't have been the one to install or maintain the system,so I didn't want to take the chance with the unknown.Last year, I had a small mold issue and this same Estes repairman suggested a treatment that thank heavens I didn't do as I later found out it would have taken a small mold issue and blown mold throughout my home and potentially caused a huge mold issue which would have been dangerous and very costly to fix--this was confirmed by a highly rated mold prevention company.
Description of Work: Air conditioner went out and I called Estes as I've used them for years. I just didn't feel like the repairman was interested in fixing what I had, or that he even checked out the system in much detail. He seemed to think that just because of the age, I should replace. I had this same guy once before to look at cleaning air ducts due to mold and he gave me very bad advice, so I just didn't feel comfortable with his rec. He left without doing anything and charged me $79 for a service call. I did like their salesman who also checked the system and discovered another problem that the repairman missed. They both left and I had no air. The second company also suggested replacing versus repairing, but they took the time to see what they could do to provide temporary service over the weekend which worked, and was MUCH appreciated--and no charge for this either. I went with the other company and was very pleased. I would not recommend Estes again which is hard for me to say, as I've used them for years and used to trust them a lot. But last 2 calls weren't good.

Regarding the mold, issue several months ago our technician did the right thing by referring it over to our indoor air quality speicalist - who happens to be the same sales engineer that came to her house after the second service call who she liked and felt comfortable with!. An appointment was made for him to come out but she later canceled. If he had had an opportunity to come to her house he would have figured out the best way to handle the problem. The second call mentioned was on Sept 23, 2010 where the technicialn performed the diagnostic and determed that the blower motor was bad. It is not correct that he "didn't do anything" - he diagnosed the problem and determined that the old furnace had a bad blower motor and that It would cost over $600 to repair. He recommended replacement -- the system was 27 years old! She accepted our proposal on a Friday and we were to install it on Monday before she cancelled the job. She has no reason not to "trust"us because both our technician and our salesman were trying to provide her with the best possible service. I do commend the other company for getting her temporary air over the weekend. We also do that whenever possible - since the job was going in less than 48 hours from the time she gave us the order she was probably not given that option. We certainly do appreciate her business and hope we have an opportunity to not only discuss this matter further but also to provide service in the future. Sincerely, Tommy Estes, President

Went very well. They called ahead, he was clean, professional and showed me everything regarding the filter and float switch. Left old float switch with me. So far, I feel really glad I did research through Angie's list and have switched to Estes. Though he did tell me about a whole house comfort test that they can do, he didn't hit me over the head with a heavy sales pitch. I was really happy the filter replacement was so much cheaper than we had been paying. I inquired re the Media Merv that had been sold to me the last couple times ($170), and he said we definitely did not need to go up to that level. Update a week later: Wildlife service came and did complete review, found no evidence of recent rodent activity, no chew marks on old float switch, several untouched traps containing old peanut butter, non entry points. I wasn't sure what to think about Jose telling me rodents eat styrofoam from old float switch. Laurie called from office a couple days ago as a follow-up (which my old service never did). I told her my story. She called a supervisor, and called me back a few hrs. later, saying they would send me a refund check of $20, even though Glen (I think was his name) said rodents do eat float switches. Still am unsure about the float-switch, but both my husband and I are happy with where things stand at present and I would not mark them down.
Description of Work: Signed up service agreement for one year, which had a $10 discount for Angie's list and came to $139 for 2 tune-up visits a year. Jose came today, performed the tune-up, also replaced filter for $40 (we had been charged at least twice that to replace April Air filter by Peachtree Service), and another part (float switch) for $85, both of which were discounted as part of the service agreement.

Service associate Peter was highly skilled and extremely polite. He quickly assessed and diagnosed; then he efficiently replaced the capacitor on the compressor and confirmed proper function in under an hour. Payment processing (via credit card) was instantaneous. He provided us with an overall impression of our general HVAC health and offered some tips for prolonging the life. Excellent experience!

I called a few companies and Estes was the first one that offered emergency service. The technician called and said he had several people in front of me, but would get to me if I still wanted him to (saying it might be in the middle of the night). We agreed he would call back around 9:00 pm and give me a better idea of the time. He said he could be at my house by 10:15 pm and he was. Ray was extremely professional, explained everything clearly and checked out several things. He also changed filters in both furnaces since I had new filters. I was so pleased with the service that I purchased a service agreement--something I had been planning to do anyway, but had not settled on a company. The after-hours fee was $50 which I thought extremely reasonable since it was a Sunday night and I was not an existing customer.
Description of Work: We came home from vacation on Sunday afternoon to find our upstairs a/c not working and the thermostat reading 93 degrees! The technician replaced the capacitor ($147), added a surge protector to the unit ($85) and I purchased a service agreement.

All in all, a great experience. I would not hesitate to use Estes again!
Description of Work: Our main-level AC was taking FOREVER to cool the house so we tried some DIY fixes which helped but didn't solve the problem. We contacted Estes after reading their reviews on both Angie's List and on the Carrier website to make an appointment . Imagine our surprise when the tech was actually early!! Before he came inside our home, he put those little booties on over his shoes so he wouldn't mar the hardwood floor. After inspecting the HVAC room, he deduced the problem was outside with our 9 year old units. Once he realized we had never had them serviced, he began to explain Estes' maintenance program but didn't press the issue when my husband declined the offer. He cleaned the unit and replaced a part. When we asked him to check and clean the other units, we were advised there was an additional $65 fee per unit so we decided those units were just fine! The tech applied the Angie's List coupon without any hesitation or complaint.

I had actually scheduled the appointment for June 11 but received a call from Estes on June 5 saying that they were in my area on a service call and would I prefer to have the work done now. Since that worked fine for me, I agreed and the tech showed up a few hours later. I was very satisfied with the experience. I had halfway expected them to try and sell me on a new system for the house but they said everything was fine with the old one for now. They did suggest a surge protector and float cutoff which I declined at this time.

I was most pleased with Estes' service staff, who did a maintenance and inspection on my old system first, and then with their salesman, LaVerne Jackson, who provided significant information to me regarding the purchase of a new, upgraded A/C system. They also had the best price on a quality, name brand system of the three companies I consulted. I was also extremely pleased with the young men who came out and installed the system. They were polite, friendly, professional and very helpful. I also contracted with Estes for bi-annual maintenance servicing of my system. I am most pleased with the service I received from Estes, and I will use them in the future.

They were on the expensive side, but in this instance it was worth it. Terrific service during installations, terrific follow-up for maintenance. For the first year after installation they'd come out to run a check-up and change filters (I think we paid extra for that, or maybe it was included, I don't remember). They'd call me to schedule a good time, and would always leave an extra filter, and the technician was always friendly and professional. We have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with any of the systems they installed. We are moving to another house this month, and will probably need a new HVAC on that one, we will definitely use Estes again.
Description of Work: 2 entire HVAC systems (air conditioner, furnace, thermostat, some duct work). The upstairs system in 4/2007 and the downstairs system in 6/2008.

Actually was serviced by one of the Estes family. Wasn't there to witness the work, but did speak to the individual. He explained what he did, and a few recommendations on items to repair / replace before they break. Cost for the annual contract was reasonable, based on calls made to several other highly rated Angie's List contractors. Systems continue to work fine to this day. Looking forward to the fall tune-up on our furnaces.

I selected Estes, in part, because of their Angie's List ranking and I did not regret it. They were courteous, prompt, professional, and responsive. I would happily do business with them again and was very satisfied with their work. I had been previously told by another HVAC business that I should have my furnace and AC replaced at a cost of about $6,500 with the estimated cost for AC replacement alone at $4,000+.
Description of Work: The first visit by Estes was for the purpose of repairing my central AC which was low on coolant. The person checked everything and was prepared to add coolant, which he discussed with me in advance including cost, however after adding only 1 pound, I was told that there was evidently a problem with the coils and that it would be a waste to add more coolant. The second visit from Estes was to obtain an estimate to replace the AC: the person was very thorough, professional, and provided detailed explanation of the 3 options he was offering (e.g., replace the coils, replace the AC with Carrier unit for about $3,300; replace the AC with Payne, Carrier's off-brand, for about $2,700). I decided to replace the unit with Payne at a $600 savings over the Carrier price; Estes was able to schedule the work for the next day; they completed the work in only half a day; tested everything to ensure that it was working properly, and explained the work done, the warranty, and other information.

Screened for top-rated contractors and decided on 4 to get quotes on multiple brands(Carrier, Lennox, Trane, etc.). While all four contractors were responsive and impressive, Leverne Jackson did a thorough and professional job in providing the best overall value for upgrading our system.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of 17 year-old Htg. & A/C system, including additional ductwork.

Very disgusted with their business practice. Did not even offer to apply the $79 towards repair.
Description of Work: I called to get their pricing on replacing a part(under warranty) in my unit. My friend who is a HAC technician with a corporation has diagnosed the issue. So all I need is the price. Estes refuse to give me a price quote and HAVE to charge me a $79 fee to come out to make another diagnosis. I think this is poor customer service and plain greedy.
