Description of Work: Representative was on time and personable upon entering. Other companies finished measurement and offered firm quote in under 40 minutes. This representative was in our home for OVER 2.5 hours! Then high pressure tactics of my offer is only good for this afternoon. We were told that there would be no high pressure calls, but we had the first call that afternoon. Within the next two days were multiple calls, always with a different offer. My preference is to have a company say this is our bid, not "how about this" or "be careful who you use...".

They have very high quality of material. They were very polite and timely. I am very happy with the work that they did it look very nice. You can not even tell it is laminate it looks so much like slate. I like the fact they do what they say they are going to, and they provide excellent service! I am pleased with me experience with Empire and the excellent service they provided me. They didn't have any problems doing the work, and were helpful when I chose what I wanted for my flooring.
Description of Work: They installed all new laminate floors in my kitchen which is about 25 by 20 feet. The laminate looks like slate.

Sales staff was quick and responsive, salesman visited within 2 days. Was pleasant and knowledgeable, but was unable or unwilling to address my questions, about the difference between different kinds of hardwood flooring. I had done some research, he did not address my specific concerns. His approach was reasonably low-key, but unwilling to negotiate any details. Empire Direct called with a computer calling system several times a day for 3 or 4 days, very annoying. Found a reputable company, that quoted several thousand dollars less, for better quality flooring, and much more personal service.

The initial MSRP of the carpet was told to me to be $2680, but I could get it at $1815. After some negotiation, the price was reduced to $1650. He had to call in his manager to see if it could be lower because, apparently, if they had the carpet in stock, he could give me a better price to "keep his crews busy." The price he then gave me was $1456 which "included everything" including moving the beds and all furniture as well as placing down padding. I asked if I could have the carpet replaced in a few months from today and he said he couldn't give me the $1456 price for then. I told him for $1400 he would have a deal. The guys showed up earlier than they were supposed to (the called at 6:30am instead of 8ish) and wouldn't move the beds b/c they'd have to charge more. They did a great job. I called the sales guy back and he said they were supposed to move the beds but he couldn't do anything. After contacting Cust Svc, I was refunded $100 for moving the beds myself. Overall pleased!
Description of Work: Replaced carpet for two bedrooms and accompanying closets. Measurements indicated size was 57 yards with "cutting allowance." I selected a 5 year warranty berber carpet from Shaw and paid with a credit card. I did not use their financing.

Empire is a great company to use but I wish that they didn t have such pushy salesmen come out before they begin their work. We don t like to be pressured but honestly the quality of the work and the responsiveness of their servicemen are unparalleled. We loved the way our new carpets look and are glad we used Empire for this.
Description of Work: The men installed a laminate floor in our 15 by 15 great room and 3 carpets in our 10 by 10, 15 by 15 and 10 by 10 foot bedrooms. All old flooring was taken up and discarded by the company. The job lasted a total of 6 hours.

The salesman was prompt and knowledgable. The first crew was on time, but only one guy spoke English at all and that was poor. We had specifically spoken with the salesman about the number and location of the seams. The installers had four seams in the hall alone, it looked like they tried to piece it together with scraps. The seam in the living room was in the worst possible place. The local supervisor came out and immediately commented on the ''bad job'' and offered to send a new crew to replace carpeting. The new crew came promptly, did an excellent installation, but brought the wrong carpet, it did not match the stairs (it was one shade darker). The crew came out the third time and replaced the stair carpeting to match the hall and living room. Empire refunded us $200 for the hassle. We were very satisfied with the response.

I didn't order the work. I did not trust them.
Description of Work: This involves an installation quote. The whole experience was very insulting. I was asking for three medium sized rooms to be carpeted, which added up to 600 square feet. The woman gave me a price of more than $4,000.00, saying I'd get a discount for doing the work the next day. But she didn't try to discount the price until I told her that the prices were too high. She finally knocked $1,000 off the price, but it was still way too much for the area. Then she tried to call her sales manager who talked to her about what else she could do to drop the price. It was a typical bait and switch type sales pitch. They tell you it's reasonable; It's NOT! They are way too expensive for what they are offering. It was like going to a car lot and trying to buy a car from a slick salesperson.

They came out the day after I called with samples and measured to give me an estimate. They were several hundred dollars higher than another quote I had received and when I mentioned this they met the other quote. The installers came a few days later (they would have come the next day but I requested a later date). The installers were on time and did a great job with the carpet installation, but I did notice two scratches on my furniture after the installers left. The carpet looks really good.

The salesman said that they have their ''own crews'', and the TV ad shows guys in uniforms. This crew was most definitely independent contractors. Very nice guys, hardworking, but their English was very limited and we struggled to communicate. They were very noisy and scattered things all over the parking lot and sidewalk. They did clean up after themselves when the job was completed. Part of the job was not completed to my satisfaction, but a supervisor returned my phone call promptly and the issue was handled.
Description of Work: They took up old carpet and pad, installed new carpet and pad in living room, dining room, hallway and bedrooms. Then they put down laminate tile in the kitchen, bath, and foyer.

Apparently they are not customer service oriented.
Description of Work: Contacted Empire for free estimate for replacement of large Palladium window. Was told that the appointment was between 1:00 and 3:00. After I made 2 phone calls wondering where he was, rep finally showed up at 7:30 PM. Rep said he would fax me the estimate since he had to check on clear glass versus tinted for window. Gave him fax # and NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN! Empire called me several days later to check if I put a service order in. I told them they were not reliable due to circumstances which I mentioned above. Received apology and an offer of $100 off estimate if I permitted another rep to give me an estimate. I said OK and set up an appt for 8/10/2006, 8:00-12:00. NO ONE SHOWED UP AT ALL! The company is not reliable at all. I would give them an F for customer service which gives me the impression that their work would be unreliable also.
