DeKalb Tree Works was prompt, professional, courteous, efficient, and thorough. I had a Bradford Pear Tree that split after an overnight storm. Half of it was on the ground and the other half was still standing. I made an appointment with Jean and she arrived on time and was able to schedule the tree removal for late that afternoon. I also got the haul-away services, and they arrived at 7:30 a.m. the next morning to pick up and thoroughly clean up remaining debris. The man who did the stump grinding came in midday and was thorough and professional. He also cleaned up after his work. I would highly recommend this company for your tree work.

I called this company after receiving a flyer in the mail for their services and spoke to Jean. The next day after my initial call, Jean arrived punctually and came out to do an estimate at which time I informed her to let me think everything over and I’ll reach back out if I decide to move forward. I called her back the next day (no answer) and left a voicemail for her confirming my interest in the service and desire to move forward, but informing her that I had a few questions I’d like to have addressed first. She called me back the at the end of the next business day (a Friday) and leaves a voicemail saying that she has me on the schedule for the following Thursday. I returned her call on Saturday afternoon stating that Thursday is fine, but that I have some outstanding questions that I would like addressed before the service. My call was not returned the entire weekend, but I didn’t think much of it since it was the weekend and so I called again Monday afternoon and was met again with her voicemail. Going into Tuesday my call was still not returned and my questions were still unanswered, so I called her again on Tuesday morning. She answered, but informed me that she was on the highway and was unable to talk, and we agreed that she would call me back at 11:30AM. The time came and went and I received no call from Jean. I called her again at 12:30PM and received no answer. In a final attempt to get my questions answered and a time confirmed for my “Thursday” service, I called her Wednesday afternoon, was met with her voicemail and informed her that while I ideally wanted to move forward with the service tomorrow, I had been trying to contact her since Saturday and that until my questions were addressed that I did not want to continue with the service as planned. I’m sure you can guess by now, that she never returned my call and no one showed up to my house Thursday to perform the service. What an utter waste of time that whole experience was and it is extremely unprofessional behavior toward a paying customer. I would advise anyone considering working with her or the company to not even waste your time …you may or not even get a call back.

Had an appointment for 1pm. Guy didn't show up until 2pm. Said I had to go back to work and could no longer do the appointment because they did not show up on time. Then a lady calls me from their main office, and I explain the situation and she literally says, "Well... You're an ***!" I said, "I am no longer interested in your services, have a nice day." Glad I dodged that bullet, if that is how they treat people before the work even begins, I cannot even imagine how terrible it must be to work with them. Edit: she then followed up with a text telling me I'm an *** again ... Wow. (screenshot attached)

Excellent work by Jean (who was there the entire time) and her crew. She knows how to get her crew to work safely and productively. Very flexible in terms of adding another branch or two on an as needed basis. Showed up on time and didn't cause any damage - although some limbs were quite big. Excellent clear up too. ABSOLUTELY would recommended and use again.

Dekalb Tree Works offered great service at a great price. I needed some trees cut and trimmed in my back yard earlier this month. Jean and her team were on time and efficient. My neighbors were also very impressed with the work Dekalb Tree Works has done. I highly recommend them!

***Beware***. What a traumatizing experience!!! I hired Jean in the past for tree services with no challenges, and had no reason to believe that hiring her again would turn into a nightmare. I own a home I was planning on renting out, and decided to have some trees cut down and the rest of the trees cleaned up in my backyard. I contacted Jean on 12/22/2018, she came out to my home on the same day with a man and quoted $1000 to complete the work. I paid up front with a check for the full amount , and signed the contract, which states, that if the job is not canceled within 72 hours, there is a 10% charge. The work was scheduled for January 1st 2019. I contacted Jean again via phone and text , prior to the service date, and told her I needed to cancel the job. I decided to sell my home instead, and had to make other financial decisions to have work completed inside of the home. I spoke with her live, she stated the work could not be completed on 1/1/2019, though it is the date she placed on my contract, because it was New Years. Jean congratulated me, and stated she would be in the office on Wednesday, which at that time she would contact me regarding my refund of $900.00. 10% cancellation fee. The check cleared my account 12/24/2018. I ask her, instead of being out of $100.00, what could she complete for the $100.00, to which she stated her minimum was $250.00, so during the conversation on 12/31/2018 I told her we could move forward with my refund of $900.00 After giving it some thought, I contacted her back , again prior to the service date, and requested to hire her for her $250 minimum service fee, which would reduce the amount of refund she would owe me, and at the same time, allow me to tidy up the backyard some. Win, win? NO!! Her reply text was "you keep changing". My response was, "if the change was a chalkenge, we can move forward with the $900 refund". There was no reply. It was all downhill from there. On 01/02/2018, in the middle of the afternoon, Jean called to to say she was on the way to my home with her crew. When she arrived, I apologized for the inconvenience, she provided no response. Believing she was there to perform the work according to my latest request for $250, I ask her about my refund for the difference. She stated she was working on it while she was sitting in her truck. I walked away to go back into my home. In the meantime my contractor left to go get lunch. When he returned, she was blocking the driveway which is where he was parked prior to, so he could not pull in, and proceeded to park his truck on the street in front of the house. Jean's crew was loading branches and yard debris on the grass in front of the house, and in her frustration, hostility, and anger towards me, because maybe she had already spent the money and did not have it to refund to me, or strictly out of deliberate deceit, she forced the original job that was no longer authorized while I was working inside of the home. In never intending to issue my refund, Jean lashed out at my contractor, using profanity, about where his trucked was parked , causing a scene, that she would not be responsible for damage to his truck. In shock , my contractor stated if she would move her truck, he could pull into the driveway. As he begins walking towards his truck, which is at the bottom of the driveway, which she is blocking, to the street to move his truck, she starts yelling "don't walk up on me", and proceeds to reach down to the left of her truck door as if she is reaching for a weapon. I hear screaming, look out of the second floor window to see what's going on, notice she is reaching into her door , and in fear for my contractor run out the house to separate the two. I told her twice to just leave things as they are, and refund the balance she owes me. She kept stating over and over and over again, "I am going to complete the work per the contract". Quite disturbed by the altercation and the apparent threat , my contractor was driven from my property. Jean instructed her crew to continue to cut the trees in my backyard and completely the job. Shortly afterwards, they all leave. The work she forced was not even completed according to the original contract. I contacted Jean the next day to request my refund, and the reply was, "The work was completed according to the contract, thank you for your business, have a good day". My wishes were not honored, my relationship with my contractor was severely damaged, and the traumatic affect her actions has caused pain and suffering to myself and my contractor. In business the customer reserves the right to make adjustments and request changes if needed. What company bullies their customers, and leaves them dealing with this type of aftermath instead of simply honoring their requests? Don't do it!! Who runs their business this way?

No show, no calll, no return call.
Description of Work: I contacted Dekalb Tree Works on 9-15-17 and scheduled them to come out for an estimate on 9-18-17 to cut and remove 2 trees from my property. This provider was a recommended by my neighbor who had used their service twice in previous years. Unfortunately, they did not show or call. I called 3 times and left messages on their voice mail with the 3rd message stating my dismay and not to bother to call back. Upon additional research, I discovered they have an F rating from BBB and several F ratings by dissatisfied customers on Angie's List. Angie, you may wish to reconsider using this company in your listings going forward.

After she left, i found another friend referred Gomez Tree Services, so i called them. They said they were coming in an hour for an estimate, but never showed up. I called one more time and they said they'd be there, but then never showed up. I gave up on them. I called the day prior to the appointment to confirm, and talked to someone else, who couldn't find the paperwork. I got a story about how a truck had been broken into and they stole the paperwork, so i gave the info again and the person i talked to was going to come out that day and confirm all the work. The day of the appointment, no one showed up. I called Jean at 770-616-6608 and there was no answer so I left a message. I called the other number for the person i talked to 404-438-3694 and left a message there too. I called both several more times throughout the morning. Finally, Jean responded via text: "After careful consideration the other day when i gave you an estimate and you clearly stated for me to do the job and then no more than 30 minutes after I left you were calling to get other tree estimates and the one person that you called was my husband Gomez Tree Service which is my husband so I don't do business like that i want you give me the job to do then I put you down to do the job and then you proceeded to call other companies to get estimates when i tried to work with you and help you out and basically do your job for nothing and then you proceeded to do that so i will not be doing your job thank you very much have a wonderful day." I apologized for the misunderstanding, and said that i was sorry that neither her husband or her would be getting my work. She shamed me again for my "not good business," I decided not to reply to tell her it's also not good business to just not show up or return phone calls.
Description of Work: Jean came out for an estimate, and gave me what seemed like a good price ($500) for some tree trimming and large limb removal. I told her I was going to get some other estimates, but we tentatively scheduled a time for them to come out and i said i would call if something changed. I have the paper estimate, which ironically (see below) says "This company is not affiliated with any other tree company."

You gave me the job to do and we scheduled the job and you stated that you were going to talk it over with your partner and if anything changed you would call otherwise I was to do the job and yes I gave you a very good price to try and help you with your project because your yard was a disaster area with broke limbs hanging and you have a child and it was unsafe for a child, so with that being said after us agreeing to me doing the job I left and with in 30 minutes of mme leaving you were calling my husbands company for a estimate in which we are 2 SEPERATE COMPANIES, in which I thought was very rude and not business like and I found you to be a person that I did not want to work for in which I did tell you that and I told you why, so with that being said sorry if you are mad but this is not how I do business. You should have stated you wanted to get more estimates and you would call me back instead of lying.

Details are above, as they simply didn't show up and quit responding to phone calls. By doing this, they also lost the opportunity to do work for two of our neighbors. Important to note that these people also go by Gomez Tree Service and Home Improvements. The wife makes the business arrangements and they both showed up for estimates.
Description of Work: They completely ignored first appointment, but we overlooked as it was Memorial Day. They were hours late for the second appointment where we received an estimate. Then they scheduled for the following week, Wednesday of Thursday. They called on Wednesday, and said they had a problem with insurance, but would resolve it and would be at our house on Saturday at 8:00 AM. At 10:00 we called them, and they said they were running late and would be here at 2:00. At 3:30 we started calling again, and they stopped responding to our calls at all. We had to reschedule our fence company 4 times. We finally found another vendor who was great.

Description of Work: I had 2 recommendations for this company from co-workers, plus I saw them on Angie's List. I was calling for a large tree removal over a garage at a rental property I own. Their ad says they service ALL of metro Atlanta. I was first told that I was outside of their service area (even though the house is only 5 miles from downtown Atlanta). I was then called back and told the owner would go look at it and give me a quote. I never heard back. I don't beg anyone to let me hire them, so even though I had two recommendations, I'll go with someone that wants my business. Maybe they are too busy or just not interested in that job, but it would be nice to be told.
