Description of Work: Our crawlspace is flooded. We had another company come out and quote us a very steep job. To get a second opinion we called Jordan, and he was out the next business day. He informed us that our root issue was something very manageable and would cost us a fraction of the first quote to fix. As it turns out, it's a plumbing job so Jordan wasn't going to make money on it at all. We truly appreciated his honesty and would hire him for any crawlspace need.

Description of Work: After receiving multiple quotes (well over $15k each) for our crawlspace encapsulation, we contacted Jim due to a referral from a co worker. Jim was always prompt with his replies, was able to do his quote and work regardless of whether we were available to be home (a dream scenario during busy times at both of our jobs) and provided the services at by far the best price. They put in a French drain, removed old insulation and mold, found and removed a fairly serious (and undetected) rat problem and now our crawlspace is a clean, white storage area with no moisture (and no critters!)! They pointed out a couple of leaks in our pipes and set buckets under them until we can get a plumber out too. The crew was polite, knowledgeable and super hardworking. We've been very happy with Jim and his crew and would be glad to work with them in the future. We will recommend them to our friends and neighbors who have old houses with drainage issues for sure.

I have just listed my property for sale and may include this work to be done prior to sale. It may also be negotiated in the scope of purchase stipulations, so as of this writing, no work has been done.
Description of Work: Jim Briley has provided a quotation for remediation/waterproofing of my crawlspace. His response was quick and he was readily available to come to my home and provide the quote. After his inspection, we had a lengthy and informative phone conversation to discuss options on repairing the space. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation, felt informed and as if I had real, affordable options to resolve the issues. He included additional options free of charge in his quote including removal of existing debris in the crawl space that go above and beyond expectation.

Response from Crawlspaces and More
[Member Name Removed] I apologize for the delay in response. A few odd circumstances took place in the last few weeks. I emailed your estimate out on 11/23/13. Either it went to your spam account or there was a problem with our server. Then after that a slipped and fell down some outside stairs and had to get some minor attention. You left a message on my personal cell phone and I did not retrieve those messages until Monday morning 12/213. I left you a message to see if you had a chance to check your spam account. Please email me so that I can make sure you get the estimate. Thanks for your patience in getting this resolved. Jim Briley

Several years ago, after noticing our crawlspace had a high humidity level during the summer, my wife and I obtained estimates to control the humidity and repair the damage/mold that was evident. The estimates were just too high for me and I placed a dehumidifier in the crawlspace. The humidity level dropped but the mold was still there. The dehumidifier just couldn't handle our humidity/mold problem. In November 2013, we decided to just go forward with a contractor to correct our problem. I investigated (using the internet) the different methods to correct our crawlspace problem. I wanted to get an idea what needed to be done before we called for estimates. We already knew the job would be expensive but we also knew it had to be done. In my research using Angie's list, we found a contractor that had a high recommendations and seemed to be more reasonable than some others. We chose Crawlspace.com, a company owned by Jim Briley for our first estimate. Jim's plan to correct our crawlspace fell right in line with my research results on what should be done and his estimate (I felt) was reasonable. Jim told us the job would take just a few days and it was completed in 4 days. He installed florescent lighting throughout the crawlspace. He removed all our nasty fiberglass insulation, then saturated all our moldy floor joists and subfloor with Hydrogen peroxide to kill the mold. Then he leveled/graded our crawlspace removing the hard clay mounds and leftover rocks left when our home was constructed in 1992. He dug a French drain around the inside of the crawlspace to gravity drain and water to the outside. He covered all the crawlspace floor and pillars with 10 mil white plastic which he also attached to our foundation. He spayed closed cell foam on the foundation walls and installed an insulated entrance door. Finally, I was given a temperature/humidity meter so I could monitor the temp./humidity levels in the crawlspace. Jim noticed our front gutter had disconnected and with no additional charge to me, fixed the problem which involved him going to Lowes for parts. I can't imagine a better contractor to deal with. He was first class and so was his employee Robert. I would recommend Crawspace.com and Jim Briley with no reservations.
Description of Work: I had a deteriorating nasty crawlspace with mold and no control over humidity. Crawlspace.com was hired to correct the problem.

I highly recommend Jim Briley and his crew! I had several companies come to my home to provide evaluations and estimates, but Jim offered the most efficient and effective solutions for our home. Overall, the job was done for a fraction of the price charged by the big franchise companies. And yet the outcome was better because Jim did not just take a canned "system" and apply it to our home. Instead, he addressed specific items of concern that the big-box companies neglected to address in their proposals, such as getting rid of our obsolete floor-mounted furnace. The custom-made and insulated doors are a big upgrade over the typical plywood doors. The installation process went quickly and smoothly. Jim's crew members are personable and polite. Although he is busy, Jim has been very responsive when I've had post-installation questions.
Description of Work: Removal of debris and old insulation from crawlspace, removal of old floor furnace, cleaning of wood floor joists, installed lighting and remote hydrometer, bubble wrap insulation on outside walls, vapor barrier, new crawlspace doors and new support piers.
Jim Briley and his team did an excellent job. He supplied a fair estimate with multiple references in order for me to sufficiently assess the work. Unlike some of the larger companies, Jim made the time to get out to my house within a few days (not the 5 week wait for the larger companies) to assess the work effort and supply me with various options. He stuck to the agreed to time table, and his team were extremely professional. Overall, I was very pleased with the results and I would definitley recommend him. Lastly, having done quite a bit of work on a few homes over the years it was nice to see a job he performed ~5 years ago and the client was still satisfied and willing to be a reference. Nice job Jim!
Description of Work: Mold remediation, added lighting, foam insulation, moisture barrier (bubble wrap), cemented crawlspace, installed french drain and sump pump, and created doorway into crawlspace.

Very responsive and easy to work with. Price was fair as were suggestions on how to solve the problem of a damp and musty crawlspace. Crew was prompt, polite, professional and explained what they were doing. Since the work was done the humidity levels and musty smells have decreased substantially. I am very pleased and happy I made this investment in my house. Would recommend Jim and team to anyone looking to solve their crawlspace problems. Honest and fairly priced.

Crew showed up exactly when he said they would be here. They were courteous, friendly and knowledgeable of what work needed to be performed. Cleaned up their worksite and removed all debris. Work was performed in 2 days, they worked a long second day to be sure all was complete. Custom crawlspace door will be installed next week.
Description of Work: Identified where water was entering the crawlspace. Gave us an itemized list of different ways problem could be solved. Let us choose which options that would fit our budget. Removed all old fiberglass insulation that was moldy and mildewed because of water infiltration. Installed lights for visibility, these lights remain. Wrapped the exterior walls, installed French drains with pipe & gravel to exit foundation at lowest levels and piped away from the foundation.

Jim Briley and his crew are awesome to work with. Spraying concrete and foam insulation in an occupied house could be really messy, but they did a great job keeping everything in order and cleaned up after the job. I am happy to show off my crawlspace and Jim has taken a few customers over to see it. Their price was not cheap but it was far less than some competitors who push their plastic liner encapsulation package and want $14K+ and it would still be just plastic covered dirt with a fancy triple redundancy sump pump. The funny thing is, Jim put in a jumbo size sump pit, just in case, and the french drain lines feed into it. There has never had water in it, so there is/was no use putting in a super expensive sump pump with back-up battery that the franchise encapsulation guys push with their high pressure sales tactics. While Jim was here and had the closed cell foam insulation rig here, I had him insulate some other areas of the house and an outbuilding. Closed cell foam is the way to go. It seals out air, water, bugs, rodents, and heat and cold air. And it sticks to anything. I encourage you to give Jim a call before you decide on making this big investment in your home. And I do consider it an investment. It will add value to your home and conserve energy. If you are a Georgia Power customer, you may qualify for rebates.
Description of Work: Expanded the opening from our partial basement to the dark nasty crawlspace area. Installed french drain, moved a lot of dirt around, dug a super deep sump pit, installed lighting, put down a thick plastic (pool liner type) sheeting then pumped concrete in through a hose all the way from the street. Then they sprayed all the exterior crawl space walls with closed foam insulation. It is now just an extension of our basement and it is bone dry and brightly lit storage space at the same level and height as the original basement.

Jim is the man.......Being a military service member I always like promptness, respect, and integrity. Jim has all three and they shine with through his personality. I was in a total bind, my basement had flooded the night before and I had at least a foot of water in the basement. I was freaking out. Jim was so busy in his schedule and told me that he was swamp, but some how he managed to fit me into his schedule and come look at my basement. I already had two other quotes yesterday and I about had a heat attack when I heard I could by a convertible BMW for the price of water proofing my house. So this is where Jim had integrity, Jim walked down to my crawlspace to see my HVAC guy (replaced my ac due to water damage) my plumber (broken pipes) and standing water the day after I had mold remediation done cause we though we had the water issue fix. Jim looked at me and said I can see that you are struggling here, he said that he is not one to try and break the bank he wanted to just help. Jim looked around my house and saw things that no other estimator saw.....like a huge crack in my driveway that was pouring water into the crawlspace. He said that was an easy fix with sealant. He then told me the quote for my french drains and for the encapsulation process, it was such a sigh of relief to know that I wasnt getting taken advantage of when I was in a bind. I trust Jim and cant wait for him to start the job on Monday.....THANKS FOR BEING GREAT JIM!!! I will let you all know how the work is when it is comlplete but I am sure it will be fantastic.

Jim had encapsulated my neighbors crawlspace recently and was coming back to do a final visit, so I asked her to send him over to look at our crawlspace. We have been researching providers for doing insulation/encapsulation/water prevention for a while and wanted to see what he had to say. I was so impressed with Jim's knowledge, thoroughness and promptness in providing an overview of work needed and options for correcting problems, that we will definitely be calling on him to provide services for us in the near future.

Jim did a detailed analysis of the crawlspace and the home exterior and noted a few things that I had missed on my inspections. He noted things that even our home inspector had missed. He spent time with me under the house, answering all of my questions patiently and was very open to my thoughts and comments. He then drew up a brief ballpark estimate while we discussed any concerns or questions. Within a day, he had emailed me a quote outlining all of the work we had discussed. I feel very confident in his abilities and his finished product. I haven't decided to move forward with the job yet, but wanted to take time to give this review as I felt that the experience so far showed that it would be great overall. Definitely a professional!
Description of Work: I met with Jim Briley to have him provide a quote. He was a few minutes early for our Saturday morning meeting. He was very friendly and explained everything in easy to understand terminology. He crawled around under the house, inspected the outside and then spent a great deal of time with me discussing the potential job.

I wish I had contacted Jim last Fall, when I realized I had a moisture and mold problem in my crawl space. I had contacted one of the other companies I found here on Angie's list, and was turned off on the whole closed crawl thing after I learned what they wanted me to spend. Instead, I started small last Fall, did the french drain and new vapor barrier, and had the mold remediated. This helped get rid of the water and got the humidity down some, but not enough to help with the humidity in the main house - even with a whole house dehumidifier. So, I am a complete believer now in the closed crawl spaces. I am already seeing a difference, and, I am no longer afraid to go down there (thanks to the lights)! Jim is really great to work with and I know that he will continue to work with me until I am 100%.
Description of Work: Installed white 20mil plastic, insulation up the walls, and sealed the vents in the crawl space. They also installed a string of lights and a new door for the crawl.

Jim and his crew did a wonderful job and gets the work done in just two days. Then my crawlspace is totally different and looks so nice now. I am very pleased with the work. Thanks for the help!!!
Before using Crawlspaces.com in 2011 we researched the references given by Jim Briley, the owner. I talked with customers who were very satisfied not only with the service, but Jim?s suggestions on problem solving with issues surrounding the crawlspace. And I interviewed 4 other companies before deciding to work with Crawlspaces.com. We had the work completed by the summer of 2011. Jim Briley was professional, timely, reasonably price considering the services, and his workmen were careful with the landscaping and structure of our home. And last week he stopped by to fix a very minor crawlspace door latch-set problem, and replaced it. (This is 2 years after the initial installation.) Jim had told us that we should see a drop in our utilities bills over the winter, and we have noticed a reduction of 30% or more of our winter gas bill. We would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Crawlspaces.com cleaned and sealed up our crawlspace in 2011, and as we have just joined Angie’s list we are leaving our positive feedback as to how pleased we have been with the job and follow-up service. The following was done: Additional lighting was added to the space for visibility to work (and left for our use) Existing vapor barrier was removed French drains dug and sump pump installed to remove any standing water Concrete was poured on the crawlspace floor. Floor joists were cleaned of mold Walls were sealed up, vents sealed, crawlspace door with latch-set lock installed Dehumidifier draining into sump pump installed Remote was programmed so the humidity and temperature of the crawspace could be monitored from our living room upstairs

First, I had received quotes from several other companies regarding crawlspace encapsulation before speaking with Jim of crawlspaces.com, which were mostly infuriating. Each sent sales people with prepared slides and videos wanted to play for me rather than actually explain things, tried to sell numerous proprietary products (a special dehumidifier only we can get, our special brand of reinforced plastic, insulation, et cetera). Meeting with Jim was an incredible relief. He was punctual in meeting me, but had also just come from another job he was doing (yes, the guy who quotes the work also supervises and knows what he is doing). We talked about what I needed and he proposed a number of solutions. I had already done my research on some of the available methods, he was happy to take all of my input and come up with a plan. The final solution was to encapsulate the crawlspace floor with a reinforced plastic (hmmm, same material as one of those other companies but without their brand name printed on it), tape the plastic up against the walls, and the spray foam the walls to insulate and seal everything. Rather than a dedicated dehumidifier we decided to condition the space with our existing HVAC unit which has worked well. Jim also did gutter work on our house to redirect water flow and avoid some of the problems that were creating moisture in the first place. He installed lights in the crawlspace, and a real door (again, not some proprietary product, just a real insulated exterior door). In the process we discovered a wall with rot. Jim repaired that wall and siding as well. I'm very happy with that work and his skills clearly extend beyond just crawlspace work. If you are considering having a crawlspace encapsulation done, you should really talk to Jim at crawlspaces.com
Description of Work: Excellent experience with crawlspace encapsulation
He was wonderful. His name was Jim Brailey There were many reasons why we did it including keeping rodents out. We would absolutely use him again and we happily refer him.
Description of Work: We used Crawlspaces.com to seal our crawlspace. They completely sealed (conditioned) our crawlspace to prevent problems with water moisture in the crawlspace. They also insulated it so now it is a conditioned area in our home. They put concrete down and all kinds of things.
