They were great at answering all of my questions and worked to get me on the schedule as quickly as possible. No air conditioning during an Atlanta summer escalates the need! They even cleaned up well upon completion.

We've been very happy. Our old unit had to work hard to keep upstairs temperatures under 90 degrees in mid-summer (basically, couldn't use our upstairs during the day). The new unit, recommended by Central, works so much better.
Description of Work: We had our aging, poorly functioning upstairs heat pump replaced with a ductless, wall-mounted unit.

I have used them now for a couple of years, and I find them very good. They do my service every three or four months in terms of keeping my system up to date. I pay them on a monthly basis. It's kind of a year-round thing and then they call me and then provide the services when it's necessary. They do an inspection at the end of each season and then they do an inspection during the season to keep my vents and those things cleaned. I've been using them for a couple years.

I could not be more pleased with their service. My brother in law has sold Carrier Air Conditioners in another state for 20 years. He told us to go to Carrier's website and research the current members of their President's Club--current is important as there were other companies that were listed as previous President's Club but not current. President's Club criteria has to do with training and certifications. It was there that we discovered Central and their excellent staff training and certifications. While on the site, we chose the top 3 companies to interview. Kenneth, from Central, really impressed us with his knowledge, detail and responsiveness to our questions. We also felt that they were the most honest of the 3 companies in what they were presenting to us. He gave us information on all of the systems while the other 2 companies mainly only gave us information on the most expensive ones. Their price was the best of the 3 companies. I had a lot of follow up questions which he quickly answered. The technicians arrived on time and did a great job. Part of the price was replacing and moving some old equipment that we had. There was a small glitch with the install and they immediately sent out a technician to handle it. When choosing Central, we felt that we would be pleased with a long term relationship as they maintain our equipment. We got the Infinity 19 Seer--which is the variable speed unit and it really helps regulate the humidity. At first we were not going to get it because it costs more. But our brother in law--who sells Carrier in Florida--says that it makes such a difference in comfort that you can keep the thermostat higher and thus save on energy bills. We also got the Guardian Air Filter which has dramatically helped with the urine odors in the house from our 2 15 year old dogs. I would absolutely recommend Central to anyone who is looking to replace their HVAC system.

They did a great job too. They're pricey though. I don't know if I was being unrealistic. The first time I think was the 6th of May and I needed a new thermostat among other things, and it was close to $400, which really shocked me. And it was not with an auto control either, but that may be the going rate; I don't know. I've never had to buy one before, so I don't know. It was just a shock. I did get them through Angie's List. They had to come out again on the 13th of June, but it turned out it was nothing that they had not done. It was where the condensers were outside. I think a sub-contractor of my management company fro the condos put in French drains, and they shorted out the electrical line to the condenser. And so I'm thinking about getting reimbursed from the condo management company. They have not indicated they will not pay; I've just gotta get the bill to them. For about three days the air conditioning was running but it didn't seem any cooler, and when I went out into the hallway it was much cooler. It was running about 80 and I had tried to get it to 75. They said they could come out later in the day when I called them, and then they came even sooner. They called and came a few hours earlier, which I appreciated; it was a hot day. Then again, they charged me $246. They checked inside and out, and supposedly they gave me a 20% discount but it still was very high. I shudder to think what the whole price would be if I didn't have an annual contract. I plan to try another company that one of my condo neighbors has used. His is a lot cheaper service than mine, so I think I'm going to try it. I was pleased with everything except what they charged and so I'm going to try another company. I can't remember the name of it. I'll get it from my neighbor when this contract is up. The service was great; it was just the price was high. I felt like he paid a lot less for a similar service to mine, an annual service. He didn't have to replace the parts that I did on the first visit, so I don't know. But for the second visit I just thought if it was just a short in the line to the condenser, and it took him like five or ten minutes work $246 seems quite a lot. The quality was fine, but it was just a short out and he didn't have to put in any new parts and it took him five to ten minutes of work, so I thought it was pricey.

We have a contract with them to come out twice a year to check our system. I believe 2 people came out to complete the service and I would say they were here probably 2 hours. They checked the coolant, they make sure there is no leak, they check the thermostat to make sure that it's working absolutely correctly, and they change out my filters to make sure I am getting the best energy saving that I can on them. They explain everything they have done and everything they are going to do. I have been using them for years.

I have a yearly contract with them. We've had them for years, so we're obviously pleased with them. Otherwise we would have fired them. I just feel that they're very honest, honest company and that they're trustworthy. Other than quality work, that is my number one criteria that I can trust the person, plus that they're going to do what they say they're going to do and do it well. They put in our air conditioners several years ago, all our whole units were put in by them and we continue to use them for maintenance.

As far as I can tell, the work was done completely and safely, and the workers were professional and courteous. My main complaint though was that my appointment time was from 11am-1pm, and the workers didn't show up until nearly 2pm. I can understand that a previous appointment ran over, but I would have preferred if they'd let me know when they first realized they were going to be late, because I could have used that time for other things than sitting around the house.

My old condenser gave it up. I went with Central because they are well known and though pricey, carry good equipment and have a long track record. Someone came out and inspected, answered all my questions and told me a dampering system along with a new condenser and sealing of all my vents and reinsulation of my attic would be efficient and energy saving, $13,000 offset by an energy rebate. My Trane furnace was relatively new and was the only thing that didn't need to be replace. That was the last time I saw or heard from him and a crew came out and did the work. All seemed well until I noticed the paint on the screws holding many of my vents had not even been broken to inspect and seal them.; When I called to ask about it they first insisted they had already done them. Finally sent out a surly young man to do it and this time I watched and asked questions. I never saw the same person twice, especially the fellow who consulted with me and sold me on the system. Fast forward winter. I sleep with it cold. I turn up the heat and only get up once it's warmed. However, when I turned up the thermostats in the morning the heat would not turn on for sometimes as long as 30 minutes. They sent someone out who said he'd changed the settings and fixed it. He hadn't, but I learned to live with it. Then it did the same thing with AC, wouldn't turn on and cool for 30 or 45 minutes after I set the thermostat. I insisted they come out and fix it before my warranty expired. They sent someone out who said it was my furnace (the only thing they hadn't installed), it was variable speed and for reasons of economy phased on gradually. I said I'd rather burn some fuel and have the AC turn on when I turned down the thermostat. He said I'd have to contact Trane since they didn't know them being a Carrier distributer, that it was a furnace issue. Fast forward to last week when my AC didn't respond to the thermostat at all and would only turn on the air for maybe 5 minutes out of an hour. Well, I thought, I really do need a new furnace, or at least a new circuit board on it as Central had told me. I was fed up with Central. I was frustrated with Central by now. The guy who sold me the system was long gone, I'd just been put off repeatedly when I sought relief and the warranty had run so I called someone recommended on my neighborhood blog. I told him about the bad furnace and the symptoms, he said yes it sounded like a bad circuit board and would cost $641 to replace. Okay. He came the next day with the new circuit board in hand, but tested the system before installing it. Lo and behold it was not the furnace as Central had repeatedly told me. It was, and had been from day one, the circuit board for the dampering system Central had installed. It was still under manufacturer's warranty and he got a new one and replaced it same day. 18 months after Central sold and installed a very pricey system it finally works, turning on when I adjust the thermostat. I never had an apology from Central or an acknowledgment that there was something wrong, much less a fix while it was still under their warranty. As soon as they had my money they were done with me. They are terrible.
Description of Work: Sold and installed new condenser, damper system, insulation and vent sealing.

I have decided to write this review as I am officially fed up with paying to fix all the mistakes and horrible work Central Heating and Air Conditioning completed at my home. The original project was completed in May of 2011 - at that time I was not an Angie's List member otherwise this review would have been posted much sooner. A bit of history: The crew came out onsite and began replacing the hot water heater, installing a mastic seal and wrapping the duct work with insulation in our attic. During this time, a Mr. Weaver who was in charge of the crew, told us that the "fan" Mark Harmon had sold us would not be suitable for our attic and would only cause problems. At this point in time both my husband and I asked him to wait while we tried to get a hold of Mark. We called Mark's number as well as the office all day and days after - we were told he was not in, on a sales trip, on vacation, anything but the truth. We never spoke to anyone other than a receptionist. On day two we discovered as they were drilling a HOLE in the side of our brick basement wall that the fresh air kit that he had "sold" us had NOTHING to do with the attic. At this point it was too late and we just wanted everyone out of our house from Central Heating and Air Conditioning because from our point of view all they did was rip us off for $3000. Fast forward to November 2015 within the last 6 months... We have had to replace the hot water heater as they gave us the bottom of the line model and installed rubber tubing in the lines. The tubbing, due to hot water running through it, began to deteriorate and ALL of our hot water had an oily black sludge & specks in it. How long have we been bathing, washing clothes, dishes, cooking, etc. with this problem? I am pretty sure a hot water heater is supposed to last longer than 4 1/2 years. We have another company at the house (as I type - a Sunday with emergency fees tacked on to our bill) repairing the HVAC unit as we have no heat in our downstairs due to the "fresh air kit" that keeps shorting out the unit. He is currently disassembling the fresh air kit as he informed us that residents do not install fresh air kits, these are installed in restaurants, bars, industrial spaces. We engaged with this company to help regulate the temperature in our house - nothing they did made any impact. In 2014 we ended up installing a new unit to support the upstairs. I cannot say enough bad things about this company to get my point across at how disappointed we were in the sales person, the service, the customer service during the initial engagement. But the simple fact that it is 4 1/2 years later and every time I turn around I am spending another $500 - $1300 to fix the problems they created and left for us. Thank goodness I have Angie's List now as both my plumber and new HVAC companies have lived up to their work and the standards of Angie's List.
Description of Work: Central Heating and Air Conditioning's sales rep, Mark Harmon, proposed insulating duct work in the attic, adding a manual damper to trunk lines, replacing a 50 gallon water heater and a fresh air kit to help remove the heat from the attic. What they came and actually did is a different story.

I chose Central Heating and Air from the list of approved contractors on Georgia Power's website to do a home energy audit. The understanding was that Georgia Power would give me a rebate of half the cost of the audit. The audit went well. The technician had a bit of difficulty delivering the results of the audit but we eventually got the results. The technician provided recommendations and gave us a quote for the work that he recommended. We got a quote from a competitor for almost half the cost and they did a really good job. The technician told us he would file the rebate form for us with Georgia Power but we still have not received the rebate check after five months. I filed a rebate form for insulation installation in October and already received the rebate.

I called Central first thing in the morning to repair an A/C unit that was not producing cold air. They scheduled someone to come out that morning/afternoon. Service man called ahead of his arrival and showed up on time. He was very professional throughout his visit, explaining what the issue was, what steps he would take to fix it, and how much the repairs would cost. He pointed out that he was installing a different electrical connection, and was happy to explain why and answer my questions. In addition to the repair, he also checked the overall condition of the unit, including the freon. Once the repair was done, he came in to check the temperature of the air coming into the house. Overall, a very good experience.

I requested the technician check the fan motor on the unit and verify it was what was causing the unit to trip the breaker. He did verified it, and replaced the fan and we were up and running with no issues. Another provider attempted to sell up a complet new compressor. Price was high for the fan replacement, almost twice what I paid several years ago for the same replacement. All in all I am ok with it.

We have been using Central for our Air Conditioning and Furnace service for about 15 years. We purchased their maintenance package (we pay a fee every year for that). They come to our home twice a year to inspect and do maintenance of the A/C and Furnace. In consideration of the maintenance plan that we engage in, there is also a discount for services. For several years, per my request, Jorge would do all the work, maintenance and repairs, if needed. A few years ago, Jorge was promoted to manager within Central, therefore he was no longer in the field, but he was kind enough to give us all the information re: the technicians who would be servicing our A/C & Furnace going forward. They are all very professional, knowledgeable, polite; they listen to and answer our questions. They don't come up with unnecessary work. The last time they came to our home was early this year. Our furnace was not starting - We called and immediately we were connected with the Tech, who gave us his advice and then we scheduled for him to come and do the job - they facilitated to schedule so that we could have it fixed without delay. It turned out it was the igniter that had burned out. They changed the igniter, verified that the flame sensor was clean and the furnace was fixed. Next week, we will have them back to do the regular routine scheduled maintenance to our A/C - It is part of the yearly plan that I had mentioned above. They inspect everything and give any advice as necessary.
