- I scheduled an appointment with Bruno a week in advance, told him that I wanted to install some hardwood floor, have some tile removed and repair some carpet. Bruno never arrived at our scheduled appointment time. When I called to inquire why he had not yet arrived he stumbled and said I was not in the system but remembered speaking to me and scheduling the appointment. Even after he remembered speaking to me and setting the appointment he said he would not be able to come to give me an estimate. I informed him I would find somebody else to give my business to.
"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused. As with any business, mistakes do happen. We did offer this client rescheduling options and would have been more than happy to come out for an estimate. He refused any option for rescheduling. We also offered to send a preliminary estimate so he could compare pricing, as he was getting estimates from other companies. He refused this as well and said he would take his business elsewhere. We apologize again for the missed appointment. Please let us know if there is anything we could do to rectify this situation. Bruno Bertolli."
In our new home the existing hardwood floors were in terrible shape when we moved in. In addition to having Bruno refinish the existing floors we also had them install new hardwood floors in the office on the main level as it was the only room that did not have hardwood floors already.
Bruno and his team showed up on schedule and did the work as promised. The end result was no surprises and the best finished quality we have ever seen. Definitely would recommend them to anyone needing new hardwood floors installed or refinished.
In addition to my previous review regarding the wrong color floors being installed, I left out the most important part. My signed work order said the planks would be 2-1/4 inch but they used 3-1/2 inch!!!! Talk about unprofessional!!
"Of the prefinished hardwoods, we suggested the top of line Bruce prefinished hardwoods. Also, we advised you to go with the prefinished Bruce Natural Country Oak vs. the prefinished Bruce Natural Oak since the Natural Country Oak would have matched the existing floors better. However, you decided to go with the prefinished Bruce Natural Oak. We tried to explain multiple times that the end results would not match the existing hardwood floorings in your house. Since you were so adamant about your selection, we have no choice but to comply with your requests. We then emailed a new estimate with the prefinished Bruce Natural hardwoods, which you signed/dated and emailed back to us. Sincerely, Bruno Bertolli." NEVER was "top of the line" offered. Nor was Natural Country Oak. BRUNO is the one who chose Natural Oak. And what about the fact that 3-1/2 inch boards were installed instead of the 2-1/4 inch specified ON THE SIGNED WORK ORDER???? How are you going to lie your way out of that one??? All of a sudden, since I have tangible proof that what they installed is NOT what I ordered and will dispute the credit card charge and win, he has now backed down from "So take me to court and sue me" to "Please list the material you would like us to use" to install new hardwoods.
The service crew was very professional and efficient. They were punctual and timely in providing the service. They moved and replaced all furniture and left the premises clean after the service was finished.
From the estimate that was typed, and itemized AND HANDED to me at the time of our first meeting (no waiting days to get an estimate) to the finished floors everything was seemless. GREAT PRICE AND WORK....twothings that seem hard to come by these days. Thanks Bruno my floors look great!
On October15th the installer arrived to do the repair. He was a good deal later in arriving than I had expected, so I called Bruno to ask about that. Bruno promptly checked on the problem and we worked it out with the installer and his co-worker arriving about 45 minutes later. The installer walked in, looked at the buckling floorboards and promptly told me "this is normal" and "it doesn't need repairing". From his attitude you would have thought I insulted his family and all his ancestors. When I said, "I'm sorry, this is not normal", he reminded me that he had done the original instillation and that this was all good. He seemed to feel that my dogs were the culprits. By no means was he going to admit that there might have been some problem in the installation. I called Bruno at that point, because his employee's attitude was making me really angry and quite frankly asked him whether he guaranteed his floors or not.
Long story short, the "I can fix that in five minutes" repair took almost an hour and the installer and his co-worker never said another word to me. They spoke to each other in Italian and it was very obvious they were not happy at having to correct this problem even though their employers had seen the defect and agreed that it needed to be fixed.
In finishing, I would say that Bruno and Daniel were apologetic over the phone on that day, but the attitude of their employees left a really bad taste in my mouth. I never heard from them after the incident and have no idea whether they even discussed the issue with their installer.
I will not use Bertolli Flooring for an future work.
The work was stellar. They held to their schedule. They brought in a lot of different crews because there was carpet work crew and hardwood flooring crew and they timed it all perfectly. When they ran into any problem and fixed it and so I was extremely impressed. They are all very professional, very courteous and they did exactly what they said they were going to do. I would use them again.
We are giving the new floor a bit more time to dry in before we put furniture and rugs on it but we are painting all the walls. In spite of the amount of material and equipment that was moved up and down the stairs there are no marks on any the walls and the paint job is just to put in our colors. We did not have any damage to repair and I could not be happier with the results.
The transaction was smooth at first, with great responsiveness and ample options from which to select.
The only downside was toward the end, when some miscommunication led to a big mess being left in our house, which we had to pay another service provider to clean since we had already moved across the country. Had we still been in Atlanta we probably could have sorted things out amicably, but we were definitely disappointed in the lack of follow-through by Bruno &/or his team.
We selected Bertolli for several reasons. First, Bertolli was the only firm to submit a printed detailed estimate. Second, we were able to visit his supplier's showroom (ProSource) and borrow additional flooring and carpet samples that we could view in our home under all lighting conditions. This helped to confirm both our wood and carpet choices. It is also worth noting that the final cost of the job was came within a few dollars of the larger firm's estimate, even factoring in its alleged truck-load discount and the higher quarlity carpeting that we eventually ordered through ProSource.
We presented Bertolli a very tight deadline -- and his crews delivered as promised (although the carpet installers were a little late
arriving). At this point, we are very satisfied with both the carpet and wood floor installation. We are especially pleased with the new hardwood flooring. The floor installation crew showed exception skill during the shoe molding installation (I have some experience with this task from working on Habitat for Humanity homes), neatly boxing out two fireplace aprons and two decorative pillars and correcting errors made during the builder's flooring installation.
Bertolli's crews were pleasant to work with. Damage to walls, etc. (there is always some damage during carpeting and floor
installations) was minimal. While I believe it is good practice to solicit multiple estimates for large home improvement projects, I recommend Bertolli Floors for consideration.
We replaced an older engineered wood floor with hardwoods in the entry, dining room, living room and hallway of our first floor. We also replaced tile in our kitchen with a travertine, and with slate in the pantry/laundry room/half bath. The floors do look much better now, although the slate floor is not as level as I would have expected (the slate "tiles" do have variation in the surface, which I expected, but several of the tiles are not laid level so you can feel a "lip" between one tile and the next one in several places.)
There are several other aspects of the job that were not quite what I expected based on all those prior great reviews.
The first issue we had involved scheduling. When we got the quote from Bruno, we were told that the whole job would take a week (and the quote had time frames for each element of the job in writing.) My husband arranged to take off from work so he could be there Mon-Fri. A couple of days into the project, no one had even started to touch the wood floors, and we were told that they would be done by a different crew (fine) ...but that they were not planning to *start* until Friday - so no chance they would be done in the promised timeframe (not fine; having your floors torn up is not a pleasant experience, and the house is a disaster while it's going on.)
We were not very happy about the prospect of dragging the project out, especially since my husband was scheduled to be traveling the following week, and I was not in a position to take off from work to supervise the job. After several conversations and emails back and forth, Bruno did reschedule the crew to come out earlier to get the job done in the promised timeframe, but it was definitely stressful.
Another issue arose with the hardwood installation in our living room, which is on a different level than the adjoining hallway. There are three entrances to the room that all involve a single step down into the room, and those steps are all made of the same wood as the floors. The workers had a hard time removing the existing (glued on) engineered wood on the "riser" portion of the stairs, and tried to pressure my husband into agreeing not to replace them. First he was told that we should "just sand them and re-stain them to match" the new wood. (No, you can't sand/re-stain engineered wood - it's a laminate.) When he pointed that out, they then said, "well, you can paint them white, or maybe paint them to match the walls." (Um, no ...)
We had to strenuously insist that the job be done correctly and that ALL the old wood needed to be replaced with the new hardwood. In the end, installing those three pieces of hardwood took only about 30-40 minutes so clearly it was not all *that* difficult, so I'm not sure why they didn't just do it properly in the first place, but again it was a stressful situation to have to argue about how the work was being done. When we spoke to Bruno about this, he stated that he was just offering options.
Other issues: when the workers removed the toilet from the half bath, the flange under the toilet broke, and thus the toilet could not be replaced when the slate was done. They said they could call a plumber - at our expense - to reinstall it. The plumbing work necessary ended up costing almost $500. (Bruno did offer to reimburse us for part of that cost.)
They did not re-hang any of the doors that they removed when the floor was installed, and when my husband and I did that ourselves, we found that they no longer clear the new floor, and had to be sanded down to open and close properly. It's not the end of the world but given the amount we spent, ($10K *plus* the cost of wood, travertine, slate, grout ... so almost $20K all told) I did not expect to have to do that myself.
I also had to spend quite a long time scrubbing the baseboards and cabinet doors to remove the grout left on them after the travertine was installed. Maybe I should have anticipated that but again after reading all the rave reviews, I did not expect to be on my hands and knees scrubbing the cabinets...
All in all, the new floors do look very good overall and the workers were generally pleasant and cleaned up after themselves at the end of the workday. They were clearly proud of their work and took photos at the end of the job and it definitely does look a lot better, but the issues outlined above would make me uncertain about hiring them again or recommending them to others.
"[member name removed], We do appreciate your feedback. During the appointment you had mentioned you were going to make a decision on which contractor to use on the same day and that you would call us if you had any questions. We emailed the estimate one hour after we met but unfortunately we did not hear from you. If you need any flooring service in the near future feel free to contact us. Sincerely, Bruno Bertolli"
"We do apologize for not contacting you yet, we have a note to contact you and just did not have a chance, if you still consider using our company, please contact us and we will be Glad to serve you. Regards!"
Bruno stayed true to his estimate, he was very responsive to all my calls, and he explained everything in detail throughout the whole process. He supplied 2 different teams --- one for the hardwood and one for the carpeting. Each was terrific.
Ronnie headed up the hardwood crew. Both crews were on time, moved all my furniture, put back my furniture, and cleaned up afterwards.
One of my favorite parts was choosing my hardwood and carpet. Bruno sent me to a terrific supplier where I had tons of choices and lots of expert help. I chose Brazilian Cherry hardwood and a plush carpet. Both turned out GREAT!
Bertolli Floors was not the cheapest estimate, nor the most expensive. I feel I got a good value overall for both product and labor. There were no surprises, and that's a good thing. Bruno stands by his word; I highly recommend Bertolli Floors!
