Description of Work: Beginning on May 9, they were to remove existing fescue lawn and replace with zoysia sod. I contracted for a short drain to tie into existing drain, scraping off the fescue and weeds, a truck load of top soil, 17 pallets of Emerald zoysia, lime, fertilizer, etc. They also said they could fix the back-up that caused us to lose water out of the rear of a waterfall that went to our fish pond. "Roberto" was to be here all the time to supervise the job, and, except when he was making estimates, Allen was to be reachable and he would drop by periodically. | |Nothing happened as promised. This business seems to operate like two men on their cell phones, who have no steady staff-- or at least insufficient personnel to manage their solicited business. | | Communication with them is next to impossible and clearly they don't communicate with each other. | |First problem: The two men, pulled from the yard crew, were supposedly master masons. I learned from them, once we had struggled through the language barrier, that they had been given no instructions as to the specie issue with the on the waterfall. I came home to find them trying to reassemble (awkwardly-- and of course without mortar) the part of the waterfall that they had busted loose. When I ascertained that the had been fixated on the pump and hose and had done nothing directed towards the problem, I hoped that Allen would clarify a fix for the next day. | |But no such luck. I could not reach him. His voice mail"had never been set up," I was told every time I called over a day and a half. The owner of the company called at some point to suggest they would put it back together w/o charge-- and his date for that is now presumably the 27th when he says they will come to provide sod for all the places that were subsequently missed when the installation belatedly occurred. | |The sod did not arrive when expected, delayed because my order "was given away to a large company." So instead of 4 men laying it on a Wednesday, 1 man put it down on Saturday. There was no top soil, no lime, very little starter fertilizer. They never contacted my caretaker, as requested, for access to the irrigation system, but, instead, the installer, using my house- metered water, moved a small sprinkler around to try to water my large lawn. | |My irrigation system had not been marked, and the tear-up had destroyed quite a mumber of heads. When I returned from a graduation away on Monday, May 17, I had to work to liberate sprinkler heads from under the sod, only to find them broken. The owner claimed they would have them fixed, but then emailed me the following day that it was" too wet"-- fortunately it had rained Monday night. However, my irrigation man did not contemplate a moisture problem, and he showed up to fix the system. He said that only one time before had he seen so much unnecessary damage. | |This company has had excuses for all the problems-- having to be in court, surgery, the challenges of getting the sod. They have apologized. And my experience may well be an anomaly. But if you want to be able to communicate reasonably with your landscape people-- and you hope for true quality--I certainly would recommend against hiring this outfit. | |I am dubious as to whether much of this grass will live. It was not laid tight, the edges are badly burned, and some pieces seem far more dead than alive. As they offer no warranties and my experience has been so dreadful, I am certainly not going to honor in full the adjusted contract, which was offered upon the mess- up surrounding the water feature. Whether I pay them any more money will certainly occur only if this grass seems to revive and flourish. Another contractor, doing some work here, has checked it out and has his doubts about that. |
