We were impressed with their reviews. They were able to get to the job in a weeks time. They immediately went to work. They were a great group of guys and did good work. They were professional and they contained the mess.
Description of Work: We had them re-skim our bedroom ceiling and paint it. They did two skim coats and the paint.

The project took nearly 2 months to complete. Although the price was fair, they did a lot of damage, including coming through our livingroom, bedroom and bathroom, cutting a garden hose and breaking a window. New window wasn't anchored to house until we found out by accident. They did eventually repair the damage, stayed in touch pretty well and were courteous and honest about their mistakes. Many different workers were involved. They only cleaned up about 90% and left tools, saw horses and broken window behind. Overall, we would not use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced faulty siding on one side of the house.

Response from A P T SERVICES
CLIENT WANTED PART OF THE ONE SIDE SIDING REPLACED FOR SELLING THE HOUSE. SO, HE DECIDED TO IGNORE OUR SUGGESTION TO DO THE RIGHT THING (WHICH WAS TO REPLACE THE SIDING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM OF THAT ENTIRE SIDE) WITH THE PURPOSE TO KEEP THE COST DOWN. ALSO HE WANTED THE NEW SIDING INSTALLED OVER THE OLD ROTTEN SHEETING PLYWOOD SUB-WALL, BECAUSE “IT WOULD BE HIDDEN ANYWAY.” WHILE WORKING ON THE LOWER PART OF THE SIDING (AS AGREED), WE NEEDED, OF COURSE, TO PLACE THE LADDER TOUCHING THE UPPER PART OF THE EXTERIOR WALL. AT A POINT, AND WHILE A WORKER WAS CLIMBING ON THE LADDER, THE ROTTEN SIDING BROKE AND THE LADDER WENT THROUGH THIS UPPER ROTTEN SIDING PART. IT WAS SO ROTTEN!!! AMAZINGLY, AT THAT UPPER PART OF THE WALL, THERE WAS NOT A SUB-WALL, THERE WAS NOT A SHEETING PLYWOOD AT ALL. IT LOOKS LIKE THE CONTRACTOR AT THE FIRST PLACE RUN OUT OF A LAST LITTLE PIECE AND HE NEGLECTED IT. SO WHEN THE ROTTEN SIDING BROKE, THE LADDER WENT THROUGH THE INSULATION AND HIT THE INSIDE WALL. THEN THE LADDER LOST BALANCE AND FELL ON THE RIGHT SIDE CAUSING ALL THESE DAMAGES MENTIONED BY THE CLIENT: BREAKING ONE GLASS WINDOW, CUTTING ONE HOSE. THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE CLIENT DECIDED AGAINST OUR SUGGESTION. AND WHEN A CLIENT DECIDES AGAINST SAFETY FOR COST REASONS, PLUS WHEN A CLIENT DECIDES TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT PERMIT, THEN IMMEDIATELY HE BECOMES THE CONTRACTOR, AND WE BECOME THE SUB-CONTRACTORS. SO AT FIRST, CLIENT SHOULD FEEL LUCKY THAT WE KEPT THE MATTER DOWN, WE WERE GRACIOUS AND PROFESSIONAL TO KEEP THE MATTER “IN THE FAMILY”, AND PLACE NO INSURANCE CLAIMS OR OTHER PROCEDURES. I PERSONALLY TRIED TO CONTACT THE CLIENT. HE HAD DISAPPEARED TO FL FOR VACATION WITHOUT INFORMING US. HE DIDN’T MAKE HIMSELF AVAILABLE FOR CONTACT. AFTER 5 OR 6 EMAILS HE FINALLY ANSWERED BACK WITH A SHORT EMAIL TELLING US TO GO AHEAD AND WORK ON THE UPPER ROTTEN PART ALSO. HOUSE WAS LOCKED WE COULDN’T GO INSIDE AND FIX THE DAMAGED WALL. AND WE COULDN’T FINISH ON THE OUTSIDE WALL EITHER BECAUSE ALSO THE ROTTEN 2X4 STUDS NEEDED REPLACEMENT. BUT THE STUDS CANNOT BE REPLACED FROM THE OUTSIDE. SO WE LEFT THE SITE UNTIL CLIENT COMES BACK. AT THAT POINT, WE ALSO INSTALLED A NEW FULL SET OF A GLASS WINDOW FROM THE OUTSIDE, BECAUSE WE WOULDN’T LEAVE THE HOUSE WASTING AIR-CONDITIONING ENERGY. OF COURSE, WE INSTALLED IT TEMPORARILY BECAUSE WE DIDN’T HAVE ACCESS ON THE INSIDE. SO WHEN CLIENT CAME BACK, HE TRIED TO OPEN IT AND HE REALIZED THAT IT WAS MOVING AND WASN’T FIRMLY INSTALLED. MEANWHILE OUR CREWS GOT BUSY AT ANOTHER PROJECT. WHAT ALSO HAPPENED IS THAT WHEN CLIENT RETURNED FROM VACATION AND WE ACCESSED THE INSIDE ROOMS, WE SAW THAT WHILE WE WORKED ON THE LOWER PART, NAILING THE SIDING OF THE LOWER EXISTING ROTTEN SHEETING PLYWOOD SUB-WALL, A FEW NAILS HAD GONE THROUGH THE EXTERIOR ROTTEN WOODWORK TO THE INSIDE AND HAD CREATED A PIMPLE TO THE SIZE OF 1/16 OF AN INCH. THIS HAPPENED EXACTLY BECAUSE CLIENT HAD DECIDED TO KEEP THE ROTTEN PLYWOOD SUB-WALL WITH THE PURPOSE TO KEEP THE COST LOW, AND THEREFORE THE FORCED BY THE GUN NAILS WERE GOING THROUGH THE ROTTEN PLYWOOD TO THE INSIDE WALLS. THERE WERE TWO NAILS IN ONE ROOM, AND ONE NAIL IN EACH OF THE OTHER TWO ROOMS THAT THE CLIENT HAS MENTIONED. THIS IS WHAT HE MEANS “INCLUDING COMING THROUGH OUR LIVING ROOM, BEDROOM AND BATHROOM”. ALTHOUGH WE DIDN’T FEEL THAT ANY OF THOSE MATTERS WERE OUR RESPONSIBILITY, WE FIXED EVERYTHING ON OUR EXPENSE. WE ALSO HAD A NICE CONVERSATION WITH THE CLIENT ABOUT THE REPORT ON WHICH HE ASSURED ME THAT HE WAS SATISFIED AND THE REPORT WOULD BE POSITIVE. MY OPINION IS THAT HE SHOULD BE MORE THOUGHTFUL AND KEEP HIS WORD AS WE FINALLY AGREED. HE ALSO SHOULD THINK WISER, HOW THAT ONE D LOOKS BETWEEN SO MANY A AND WHAT OTHER VIEWERS THINK WHEN THEY QUESTION, “WHY ONLY THIS ONE CUSTOMER REPORTED A D?”. NOW, EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW THIS GENTLEMAN INTERPRETED THAT ACCIDENT (WHICH HAPPENED BECAUSE OF HIS OWN CHOICES WHILE WE TRIED TO SERVE) IN A WAY TO LOOK WE ARE CROOKS. AND WE ARE SORRY WE DIDN’T CHECK EARLIER THIS REPORT, BECAUSE WE DO NOT CHECK THE REPORTS AT ALL, KNOWING WE GET ALL GOOD FEEDBACKS TRUSTING ALWAYS WHAT OUR CLIENTS TELL US AT THE END OF EACH PROJECT. Description of Work: Well, I called them on Sunday morning and Mr. Karras promptly picked up the phone. He was very polite and courteous and asked me what I needed. I told him that I needed some work done on the lattice and some work on the thresholds. He had a representative come out and give me and estimate that same day. The next day, the representative came with the necessary materials and did his job in a orderly fashion. I would have to say it was the most efficient contracting service I have ever used. Everything was done professionally and they left nothing in their work to be desired. I would recommend this contractor to anyone looking for general remodeling or work done anywhere else. They also did a good job on the lattice, considering that it was 30 feet above the ground!
Sam and partner Luis, are very responsive and very committed to making the job happen and in a way that pleases the customer. There were definitely problems along the way, as always there will be, but Luis, who manages the day to day running of things, was decidedly determined to make it come out well in the end. The bathroom now is beautiful, and some of the work done was really masterful, especially the tile work, done by their tile layer German. He is an artist, doing gorgeous work. Luis came to the job every day, that work was done and always kept me updated. He is friendly, upbeat and competent, and so you always feel that a solution will be forthcoming, and it is. You can reach him at all times. He never ignores you, like many other contractor types will. Sam manages the business end, and he is also competent and fair. You'll see less of him. These guys are true blue honest, reliable, committed and competent. I am very happy with the final result. I'll use again!
Description of Work: APT completely gutted and remodeled my old and unpleasant bathroom, which was badly laid out, cramped and ugly. I was very happy over all, with the experience. The cost of $5,500 is for labor alone, plus some rough supplies. I bought all else. They were very flexible, and changed, as I myself changed my plans. This led to a pretty dramatic increase in the price, but the price was always checked with me, so I knew what was happening. In about half a day, they tore out the old bathroom. Then a new subfloor was put in, the old plumbing and lights were cut off, the new plumbing was put in (had to move everything more or less), the new, very heavy cast iron antique tub was brought in, the plumbing was fixed (this was the area of biggest trouble, and the one where their workers were most likely to need supervision), the sheet rock and durock were put in, the tile was set and grouted, fixtures put in place and walls painted. Finally, a new light was hung, and a mirror was attached.

I called and Mr. Karras called back within an hour, he had someone come out and give the estimate the same day!! Did a good job on the lattice considering they were 26 feet off the ground and the door functions perfectly. No complaints.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced lattice siding and installed a door to a crawl-space.

Sam Karras came the same day I called, and gave me a written estimate that evening by e-mail. I replied by e-mail authorizing the work. He started the next day and was finished in 2 1/2 days. This was good as I had a renter moving in in a week. Sam Karras is reliable and does a good job in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Repair faux finish on bedroom wall and paint the entire room. Replace window locks on 8 windows, and repair exhaust connection for a water heater.
For several months, we had attempted to obtain the services of a general contractor to perform the work described above. After joining Angie's List, we obtained the contact information for Sam Karras, APT Services. The very morning we contacted Mr. Karras, he returned our call and set an appointment for the same afternoon; within three days, work started on the project. The APT Services representatives were friendly, on-time, and technically proficient. Mr. Karras stayed in contact with us during the entire project and met with us for a post-project wrap-up. We could not be happier with the finished project! It is great to have a contractor that will provide quality service and fair pricing on a job of any size.
Description of Work: APT Services: 1) framed and installed a door leading into our basement laundry room, 2) installed eight electrical outlets in our dining and living rooms, 3) framed and installed a door leading up to the master bedroom, 4) removed a tile counter from the master bathroom, and 5) constructed a storage room beneath the basement stairs, complete with bi-fold doors and finished dry wall.
