We did not have them do the job since we felt the estimate was very high.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate from contractor to remodel a sun porch and build an 18' deck. We thought the estimate was very high At $42,500. Hence we did not use them. They were professional but too expensive.

After arriving late for their appointment (they didn't write down my address correctly), I started explaining what needed to happen for this job. It was pretty major work for an insurance claim. The owner of the company, Everett D. Thomas, proceeded to raise his voice and explain how he thought things at an insurance company SHOULD be run? as if I had any control over that. He grew extremely irritated and said that he would charge for an estimate unless he was guaranteed the job, and how unfair it was that the insurance company required me to get multiple estimates. Of course, I'm not going to guarantee that someone is going to get a job if I have *no idea* how much it costs and if the insurance company is going to cover his costs. To be rude to me about an insurance job is simply small minded. Does he think I'll ever call him about a non-insurance job? Or recommend that friends get an estimate? Everett D. Thomas seemed to have the typical "good old boy" attitude. At one point the guy said that I would be "confused" about getting multiple estimates. That's just unnecessarily insulting. I am required by my insurance company to get multiple estimates. Moreover, it's good to learn what different people think need to be done for the job. Multiple opinions are GOOD things, and I'm actually bright enough to understand different opinions. Everett D. Thomas was insulting and passive aggressive. After clearly stating that he *would not* do my job, he continued to rant about insurance companies and argue with me. I said, "it doesn't matter because you're not willing to do this job." He looked at his associate, Terry Wilkins, and said, "Come on. I had a bad feeling about this house as soon as I walked in!" And he left. It reminded me of something that would happen in middle or elementary school. It was neither business friendly nor emotionally immature. Terry Wilkins seemed apologetic about the incident. He was very nice, and I felt sorry for him that he works for a bully. They wasted my time AND were BOORISH about it. This is not a good way to build a reputation. Their business card says, "Free estimates" (A LIE), and "No job too small." I am so disappointed in EDT.
Description of Work: MEAN, RUDE, PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE. I called EDT for an estimate for an insurance job. Things went downhill from there.

We could not be more pleased than we were by the job Mr. Thomas and his crew did. They collaborated with us on design, making excellent suggestions each time. Mr. Thomas provided a written estimate within a few days and met with us to go over it. Each item was explained in detail. He explained it would be possible that unforeseen issues would crop up that are now hidden. I fully understand that. It's always an issue in a remodel. He said they would begin work on Monday and it would take three days. That's exactly what happened. Things did crop up, such as a pipe causing a problem with a countertop installation. He and his crew dealt with it in a creative fashion that worked beautifully. In the end, the bill was just a little over the estimate. He had already told us about the issues as they occurred and all were understandable. All work was done in an extremely professional manner. Mr. Thomas is a stickler for getting things right. We ended up with a basement kitchen at a very reasonable price that was far beyond our expectations. He was responsive to phone calls and very easy going when we wanted to change things as we went along. If you want reasonable prices, full candor and upfront explanations, excellent craftsmanship, and someone who insists on the work being done right, you'll be extremely pleased by EDT Construction.

Description of Work: Removed a set of stairs and landing, removed debris. Built small closet, 21"x52" where part of the landing area was removed. Repaired drywall, closed ceiling and stippled to close the hole from stair removal) Molding installed. Customer provided flooring and this was installed by workers. Installed 5 shelf finished pantry. Provided all materials except where indicated. Took longer to complete the job than expected (5 1/2 days), mainly because drywall would not dry. Was professional and prompt most days. It was a great experience. Any problem areas they found were always brought to our attention before they moved forward with the work. We were consulted on the best ways to move forward with repairs. The repairs and painting were done in a timely manner. At the end of each day they worked it was as if they had never been here. They never left debris or anything tools behind. They did a great job. We highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They painted the house and trim. They properly cleaned their work areas. The painters were nice and courteous. They answered all our questions. They replaced rotten trim boards and installed flashing on the chimney and behind trim boards.

Over the past few years the facia board and corner boards at the base of my external chimney enclosure showed increasing signs of water damage. My home is approximately 10 years old. When I went up on a ladder to check the facia and corner boards more carefully they were rotted out and felt like paper rather than wood. It was time to get the problem fixed so I went to Angie's list and contacted the top three rated contractors in my area that indicated they did the type of work I needed done. Each of the contractors indicated they were interested in providing a quote for the job and scheduled follow up visits or committed to contacting me in the following week to set up an appointment. Of the three I contacted only one followed up to visit the house and provide a quote for the work. The contractor that provided the quote was, EDT Construction. My experience with EDT was outstanding, they carefully analyzed the work to be performed and provided a initial estimate but made it very clear that because of the nature of the problem there was no way to accurately estimate the cost without beginning to take things apart. I knew in advance that it would be unreasonable to expect a fixed price due to the nature of the damage, in fact I would have been very concerned if they gave me a fixed price with a commitment to not exceed that price due to the potential for more hidden damage. They were very careful and deliberate in their work and very thorough in determining the cause of the water damage and correcting the problem. The job turned out to be more expensive than I had initially hoped for but the work was far more extensive than I expected. If you want the job done right and stand the test of time I would highly recommend you use EDT Construction. If you just want something to look good for a few months and you don't care about the longer term appearance of your house you might want to consider another company, but I would not. I would feel very comfortable recommending EDT to my parents, children, siblings and friends, they won't disappoint.

Quality workmanship. Very professional. When problems were discovered during remodeling (such as undetected leaks, rotten wood, etc.), those problems were corrected rather than covered up. Very pleased with Everett Thomas and EDT Construction. This was a fairly large job ($40,000+) which was completed without any problems. They did such a good job on the exterior of our home, we immediately contracted with them to do another $20,000 of work on our interior. Will post again when this work is completed!

Bubba did an excellent job removing all rotted wood and replacing it. All replaced wood was primed, caulked and ready for the painters to take over. Bubba took time to explain the process and why certain tasks performed were important. Mr. Thomas knew I had already paid the and quot;other companyand quot; and worked with me in order to hold the cost down, but also perform a job that would save money in the future. They cleaned up before leaving each day. I've not even found a nail that wasn't picked up. I feel I've found a top notch company that I will continue to use for future jobs.
Description of Work: Mr. Thomas came to my rescue when the "other company" did not return to complete the job. We had lots of rotted wood on my front porch that needed to be replaced before painting could be completed.

Everett and Bubba removed the old window without shattering it, they also picked up and delivered the window to my house. They removed the rotted wood and within no time had the new window in place. They were very careful and considerate not to let my pets sneak out of the house. Something I was concerned about. They cleaned up after and the end result is a beautiful new window. Everett and Bubba are very detailed oriented and there are no hidden agendas. Very honest and qualified folks.

EDT painted the exterior of my house which was in bad shape. They had to fix some rotted wood, fill in holes, power wash and then paint. They did a fantastic job. I used them previously to fix a chimney problem so I knew they were reliable and very capable of doing this job. Everett was upfront about everything he had to do down to the smallest detail which I appreciated. Bubba did exceptional work and always had a smile. They did some extra things that needed to be done unrelated to the paint job which helped me out. All and All a great experience.

I had 3 estimates and decided to go with EDT after meeting with Everett Thomas. Glad I did. I had many concerns and worries and I didn't want to get ripped off. The experience was not stressful and Mr. Thomas gave me suggestions and eased my mind and pocketbook. Bubba and Everett showed up early and left late. I had water damage on the roof and on the side of the house along the chimney all the way down. They put in a cricket on the roof, installed new trim and siding. They worked long and hard and the end result looks great. I decided to hire them to paint the exterior of our house and will recommend them to my neighbors.

. He is a very honest person. The whole process was great. They are always on time and the estimate is what you pay. They were finished on time.
Description of Work: Mr. Thomas had built a screened porch for us last year. We had him come back and add a covered patio from the end of the porch to the end of the house. We already had a pergola that we wanted covered so it would be more useful. They fixed it so that it would have a slope to carry off the rain. He covered it with a colored tin roof. It really looks nice and does just what we wanted it to do.Also last year I noted that Mr. Thomas was going to install new windows for us. He did and they are great.

The crew that did the work was professional and easy to work with. They kept the area free from the piles of removed siding, and all removed debris was completely taken from our home in a timely manner. They then painted the exterior trim and it looks better than new. We are very happy with the work and glad that we used EDT and Everett Thomas. Having it done then saved a much higher repair bill had we waited.
Description of Work: We had siding on chimney rotting in several places. After the intial contact. we were given a quote for repairs. Repairs were approved and the work began within days. On tearing off old siding, they found water damage on the interior plywood that surrounds the chimney. Damage was cause by original builder not adding correct flashing around top and sides of chimney.

We contracted with EDT to build a stone retaining wall and flagstone patio for a price of $9,000.00. The contractor walked off of the job after about 3 weeks with only about 20% of the work completed. We had paid him an initial draw of $3000.00 with the balance to be paid upon completion of the job. He then asked for another draw before the work was completed and when we refused to give it to him because the work was not anywhere near completion, he walked off the job. The work that was performed was shoddy at best. The drainage for the retaining wall was not installed properly, the footings for the wall were not done properly (i.e. below the frostline). We had to take out and replace almost all of the work that was done prior to him walking off of the job. During the tear out to correct the drainage installation for the ratining wall, we discovered that he used the sand and crusher stone as fill to build up the ground level (we had a slope that needed to be built up level with the highest point so we could have a level patio. We needed to build up almost 3 feet in some areas. The use of these materials which were to be used for the base of the patio, as fill material resulted in extra cost to us to purchase more sand and crusher stone. Also, he dumped probably a ton or more of the crusher stone in the area on the back side of the wall, and left it there, killing the vegetation that we wanted to preserve. When he left he took supplies we had paid for with him (including two wheelbarrows that he charged us for). Everett Thomas was very difficult to deal with, he would not follow instruction as to how we wanted things done. For example, we were installing low voltage lighting on the retaining wall and wanted him to rough in the wiring and fixture boxes. I explained to him how it was to be done and that we wanted him to run the wire and have it loop through the boxes so we could attach the fixtures. Also, he was supposed to leave about 20 feet or so of the wire free to be able to connect it to the electrical box, which he did not do. We had about 6 inches of wire a the start of the wall, instead of 20 feet. Since low voltage lighting utilizes a clamp with metal prongs that pierce the rubber on the wire and make contact with the wire itself you do not cut the wire. He would not read the instructions for the wiring that I offered him. I came home from work the day they did the wiring and found that he left me about 6 inches fromt he start of the wall (instead of 20 feet) and had cut each wire at each place were a box was to go, wasting 30 feet of expensive wire. He fired the project manager for our project the same day he walked off the job. We ended up hiring the project manager to finish the job for us, and he and his brother did the work. We eventually ended up with a nice patio and retaining wall, although it took them almost 4 months to complete the project, and about $7,000.00 over our original buget for the project.
