Jasper exceeded our expectations from quoting to the finished product. He not only met our vision for our screened in porch but added concepts we hadn't thought of including additional interior lighting, nine foot walls and cutting out the existing soffit to create a more open airy living space. His work crews were punctual and professinal and cleaned up well. When we contacted Jasper by email, text or vmail he always responded in a timely manner. When I called one day about adding a deadbolt to one of the doors for child safety, which wasn't part of the original bid, he had his crew install it before I got home from work that same day. We would use Innovative Woodworks again in a heartbeat for any exterior building project.

Fantastic!! They were great - from consult to finished product. They talked through various options with us and we had a few landscaping quirks that they were very creative about working around. The build went super smoothly, on time and on budget!!! There was a minor error in a calculation, but it was swiftly fixed as soon as it was identified. They weren't the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive either and the quality or work and attention to detail was worth every penny. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

We found them after researching for providers on the internet. Two men completed the job and they completed the work in about a day and a half. They left no mess behind. They were great and they did a really good job.

Fantastic! This company obviously has built more porches and decks than you can count, and they quickly came up with building plans and suggestions that would help us improve the appearance and functionality of the outdoor space, as well as now to reduce budget.

We selected IW based on their Angie's list reviews. My guess is that the good reviews come through work performed by Dominick or Jasper, and not by Dom's brother Sam. Initial contact via email on the company's website was not responded to. Then I tried again and called and talked to someone who arranged for Sam to come over and see the project. I had prepared several designs in PowerPoint and we had a pretty clear idea of the design we wanted. After one reminder from me, Sam responded with a quote on 2/26 for $13,370, which we thought was a fair price. The quote was pretty basic: It called out the basic dimensions and materials. The were no detailed drawings, just a sketch based one of our designs. One option we selected was to save $1000 by pulling the permit ourselves. We had to submit several copies of plot plans and design and construction details. We agreed that I would do the plot plan and that Sam would supply the design and construction details. Sam's "design" was little more than a sketch with some (incorrect) dimensions. His "construction details" were a photocopied set of pages from the wrong section of the Georgia Residential Code. Decatur accepted my plot plan and rejected everything submitted by Sam. On April 7th we emailed this information to Sam and we never got a response. The same day his brother Dom called and asked if we could start deck construction the next day. I said "Uhh, we don't have a permit yet." Dom said that Sam would be able to easily correct all the permit issues. After a week went by and no response at all from Sam (not even an acknowledgement that he had received our email) we got ahold of him on the phone and were told by Sam "I have been very busy" and "construction drawings are going to cost you." There were also complaints that he had run into these problems with Decatur before and that the city wanted too much detail. We stopped the project at this point because we had no confidence that our deck would ever get built. We also felt like we had been misled on the cost of the drawings - this cost should have been included in the original quote.
Description of Work: IW was supposed to design and build a new deck for us, but we never got that far. We stopped the project in the permitting phase.

Sam McGrath performed the initial consultation an design plan for a deck I wanted added to my residence. I subsequently decided to add a retaining wall on the front of my home. Sam came up with a design that I was comfortable with and could afford. Dominick McGrath and his crew performed the work. The only negative was a cut Comcast cable line. However, to his credit, Dominick rerouted the line and mitigated any hassle. Several last minute additions to the plan were accommodated as well as some maintenance issues that were not a part of the original quote. I would highly recommend Innovative Woodworks and would definitely use them again.

The entire process working with Innovative was excellent - from the proposal phase through the entire construction phase. We had drawn up the initial plans and they worked with us to tweak things to get everything just right. Jasper, Dominic and crew are very punctual, polite and professional - very easy to work with. The same goes for all of the subcontractors. In fact, we've already used the Patio company again, and will be hiring the electrician to come back and install landscape lighting. Job site was always clean. The end result was awesome - more than we expected. We love everything - and have received many, many compliments from neighbors and friends. Couldn't be happier.

Apparently Pete and Dominic will not guarantee their work. Frank Fore told me he would guarantee the roof over our porch when I asked if we needed to hire a roofer. Frank Fore guaranteed their work for roofing. He left the company because of health problems. He was a class act. The new people are too interested in making money; not interested in good reviews or honoring past contracts. Apparently the company only guarantees their work for a year now. So, if you spend 25K for a deck or porch, please remember that Innovative Woodwork only guaranties that work for one year. Think about your whole house. If it were guaranteed for one year only, would you buy it? Not a chance. Innovative Woodwork does not respond anymore. Bad, poor quality.
Description of Work: The provider built a deck and porch onto our house. Frank Fore was the owner of the company. Since we had it built, Frank no longer worked for the company and Dominic is in charge. We called him because we had questions with the apex roof on one side being moldy withing the ceiling. Just one side. He said he would try to be our withing that week. 3 weeks ago. Never heard another word. Our daughter wants to build the same porch but has questions regarding followup lacking. Pete, the builder seems to be trying to dodge her questions as to why Innovative Woodworks has not been out to answer our questions. People who spend this much money to build need to trust their builder; however, Pete and Dominic are somewhat if not completely dodgey. Why won't they come out and answer our questions? We would hire a roofer; we just want them to tell us what is wrong!

Let me tell you these guys are great! I promise you that I have been struggling with contractors doing lousy jobs and not taking responsibility for it as I've been doing remodeling to our 1991 home. I was frankly very skeptical that Pete and Domonic's team would be any different than the others I've worked with. I personally like to watch work being done around my home to ensure that it is done properly, and with Innovative Woodworks I did the same, to ensure that I got what I was paying for, that if there were problems I could address them with Domonic Immediately and have them resolved. I do understand that I am very picky, which much comes from a career in the Navy, and as an engineer if you do not pay attention to details, someone, maybe your buddy will get killed. Whenever I needed something changed or there was a small issue that needed to be addressed, Domonic and his crew never got frustrated with me, even if I were slowing them down a bit to answer my question. They were very smooth, calm, and in control. The crew was fast, but at the same time, they were actually persistant in making sure they did quality work. I have seen in other instances contractors on my home absolutely rushing to get the job done and making mistakes along the way, which really made me question why did I even hire idiots of the siding company who I will call Mr. Siding guy. Pete was warned and new of my previous experience with lousy contractors, and promised me that the job would go very smooth and be to my satisfaction. In the back of my head though I was thinking, "yeah right Pete, heard that before from the last contractor." The guys made cedar railing in very detailed fashion and form and then used black ballusters, along with premium pine decking and beams the work was very tedious with many radius cuts, and the end product and result is awesome and spectacular. People so far are continuously asking who did the job. Not only that, the county inspector checked out their work and said this decks not going anywhere, it's overbuilt, which to me is a great thing. Seen too many decks falling that have been shown on network news to want that to happen to me. The last review I gave was absolutely terrible for the siding crew as I now have to pay out of my pocket $1,600.00 to make repairs as Mr. Siding guy left me holding the bag and I simply filled his whole form on Angieslist with some, but not all of what he did wrong and my negative experience, along with pictures, so that future people would not be taken advantage of. I am going to upload some pictures of the finished products soon That Domonic and his crew of experts created, and have nothing but great things to say about Domonic, Pete and their team of true artisans and master craftsman. Pete sent me several drafts and really spent a lot of time assisting in the design of our deck, porch, and bridge. This helped us enormously in seeing what the finished product would look like and where it would relate to our home. There was no on the job training at my home this time thank god. If I ever have the need to get deck repair again, which I may need on my rental property in the future, I would not hesitate or look anywhere else for a qualified, reputable, and experienced company. I would call Domonic and Pete at Innovative Woodworks. You should be pleasently surprised with the end results.

These guys were great! I needed to figure out a good way to build a deck and ramp at the side of our house that would allow us to continue using the driveway and be easy on our dogs hips. Jasper was confident that the plan we came up with would work and his quote was well below the other companies that we had quote the work. The deck goes along the side of the house with the ramp coming back towards the front yard. The work they did was above and beyond what I expected. They demolished the existing stairs and hauled those off. The deck looks amazing. They even added wood siding in between the ramp and the deck so that we can't see the old concrete block underneath. I would definitely use them again!

Innovative Woodworks tore down our old deck and built a new 15'x25' deck with a 24'x19' concrete patio. The deck has a herring bone design, cedar railings and metal balusters--the details definitely made a difference in the quality of the finished product and were resonably priced add-ons. The account manager, Pete, was a pleasure to work with and easy to contact with questions and concerns. They were very professional and did an excellent job providing high quality work. They used good material for a good price and completed the job quickly. We were pleased at how well they worked within our budget. We will be using them for any future projects we might have.

During the process of purchasing a new home, my wife and I hired a home inspector to uncover any potential issues with the property. Most everything seemed to be in order, except the existing 475 sq ft deck needed some attention. Although the deck flooring was in decent shape, the railing was dilapidated, falling apart, and the wooden pickets were too widely spaced and therefore not up to code. Loving the rest of the house, we decided it would be a good investment to have the deck issues fixed. This was one of the main reasons I became an Angie's List member. After browsing many Angie's List reviews for various builders, I decided to contact Innovative Woodworks for an estimate. I left a voicemail, which Dominic returned promptly. We discussed the issues and scheduled an appointment for Jasper to check everything out in person. He recommended that all the railing be replaced and some additional lag bolts be added to better secure the deck to the house. We decided to go ahead and replace the stairs as well so we wouldn't have to go back and replace its railing again if the old stairs didn't last. I also pointed out a water intrusion issue that seemed to be originating where the deck, basement, and chimney converged. He identified the problem as inadequate flashing around that area. We received an estimate for all this work and decided to go ahead with the project. We also opted for the more attractive black aluminum balusters (verses the standard wooden pickets) for a small additional cost. Jasper added us to his schedule, and within a few weeks after purchasing the new house, we had a crew at our house starting the work. Mike and Victor came out one late afternoon and did all the demo work. When they were done, they hauled off the old material. The next day the stairs, most of the railing, and the lag bolts were complete. On the final day, they finished the railing and replaced the flashing. It terms of work hours, it probably took less than 2 days work. The guys worked quickly, professionally, and kept the work site free of debris throughout. I can't say enough about the results. The difference between the old, neglected railing and the work these guys did is amazing. It's just an incredible enhancement to the house. I also received some great advice from Jasper and his crew throughout our dealings. We are new to owning a deck, so it was really nice to get some great maintenance tips from the pros. Once the new wood has sufficiently dried, I'm going to seal everything in the Spring. It was a pleasure working with Innovative Woodworks and would easily recommend them. Their workmanship is definitely true to their name.
Description of Work: Demolished old deck railing and stairs, built new railing and stairs, installed additional lag bolts to reinforce the attachment of the deck to the house, installed new flashing to eliminate water intrusion problem. Work done for existing 475 sq ft deck.

So far so good...we hope to start the project in the Spring and Innovative Woodworks is at the top of our list.
Description of Work: We currently have a 12X14 open deck. We got a quote from Innovative Woodworks to expand our existing deck by 8 feet, turning that 22X12 deck into a screened porch, and then added an extra open deck that will expand the rest of our house (and connect to another existing deck). So far, Jasper has been very responsive, and gave us a very competitive quote of $17,000 for the work.

These guys are great! I called for an estimate and met Pete McGuire in July. He was very helpful and extremely professional. I corresponded with him over the next month while I was in the process of getting other estimates. Pete's estimate was the most competitive out of three others and I was ready to go with them and actually had them scheduled to build my deck towards the first of October. However, during the waiting period, a gentleman was referred to me by a friend who was able to build my deck for 1/3 less than Innovative. My deck is now in and beautiful. I really appreciated Pete's understanding and I would highly recommend this company. They are "A+"!

Jasper and his team were great through every step of the process, from discussing design options to completing the construction. Jasper's vision of what we could do with the project lived up to his company's 'innovative' name, and we receive compliments all the time in the results. They took pride in their work, worked hard and quickly, and kept the construction site clean. Although these guys clearly do deserve an 'A' rating, my only note of caution is related to the deck lighting we had them install. The physical installation of the lights was done nicely using the materials we provided, but the system stopped working six months after it was installed. We had an electrician repair the problem, and it turned out that a combination of the transformer used and the way the wiring was done caused the wiring at the first junction to melt, which could have been a disaster. Coming out of that, my suggestion would be to have the electrical work completed or inspected by a specialist.
Description of Work: Replaced our small, builder-standard deck with a beautiful, 'innovative,' custom deck over twice the size. Innovative Woodworks did a fantastic job and created an outdoor space that surpassed our expectations and gets compliments from everyone who sees it.

I found out about Innovative Woodworks through Angie's List. Looking for a really good Company to build us a new covered porch and open deck was the primary reason for us to subscribe to Angie's List. Neither disappointed us! It's hard for us to find trustworthy contractors in our area. We contacted two general contractors and two porch/deck design-build contractors. Neither of the two general contractors gave us an estimate and we were not surprised. Both porch/deck companies did give us estimates. We chose Innovative Woodworks based on the already exceptional reviews for them on Angie's List. They sounded like a Company that shared our goals and work ethic. Now that the work is done, we are extremely pleased. Several positive comments, and no negative ones, and as I am an Engineer and very picky and thorough, that may be a first for me! Innovative Woodworks always delivered on what they promised. I am not sure why there are a couple of recent negative reviews about their responsiveness and found that odd. We experienced nothing of the sort. Jasper at Innovative arrived on time for our first meeting, provided an estimate when he said we'd get it, and always returned my phone calls and emails. Once we signed the contract, we needed a couple of drawings for HOA approval. Those arrived a day earlier than he said they would. They obtained the local building permit and posted it on their first day of construction. We were very anxious and excited about getting this covered porch and open deck built once we signed the contract. In fact I re-read the reviews here many times to keep my spirits high that we hired the right folks and waiting would be well worthwhile. Our weather this summer has been extremely rainy so the project was delayed by about a month. Jasper communicated an estimated start date and provided updates when requested. Then they asked if they could start a couple of days early since the weather cooperated. I like companies who under promise and over deliver! Once the crew arrived, led by Dominick, they got right to work. Their lumber and supplies arrived shortly before the crew arrived. They tore down the old deck, removed the old footers saved some of its lumber, as we asked them to consider, for the new frame, to keep costs down. Then they started to build the new frame, install temporary supports, and dig about ten holes for the footers. This was all on day one! After the local inspection they poured the new concrete footers and continued construction of the frame. They work very hard, and take almost no breaks, except for lunch. There's very little communication amongst the crew...they all seem to know exactly what to do, and when to do it. They work very well together. No idle chit-chat. Just some music on the radio in the background and at a pretty low volume level. They showed up again on the third day, which was a Saturday of the Labor Day weekend, for a few hours. This was totally unexpected, but very much appreciated. They looked at every piece of lumber before it was cut. If it was warped or defective in any way, they did not use it. In fact on the first day, Dominick looked at all the decking and returned many pieces because he didn't like their quality. Dominick returned the following day with replacements. And through the project they checked every piece of lumber, before and after it was cut, to insure a quality job. Work continued after the holiday weekend. Decking laid, permanent supports for the decking and roof were installed and work proceeded very well for the next few days. Outdoor temperatures were hot, around 90F, and the sun bears down on the porch area in the afternoon, but didn't seem to bother the crew. They always arrived on time, usually a few minutes early, and got right to work every day. They cleaned up before they left each day and positioned most of their tools and supplies for the next morning. They put in mostly 11+ hour days, breaking only for lunch, and some water and soft drinks. While I'm an Engineer, I am not very good with carpentry. But I do know, and abide by, two adages. 1. "Measure twice, cut once." This crew exceeded this and you could tell. Didn't see any re-work, which is a wast of time and materials. 2. "There's never enough time to do it right the first time, but always enough time to do it over." Not with this crew. As mentioned, I never observed re-work. I did see a one time error in the floor joists jut as they started to install them. I pointed it out and they were very happy I did. From their angle, all seemed right, but they were off on one end by a couple of inches. They were very appreciative of me pointing it out. I'm certain they would have seen it after installing a few more joists, but that would have meant they'd have to re-do them. So we preemptively made sure that didn't happen. This was the only time I saw anything of this sort but by that time I was confident they'd fix it and they did, right away. This crew was meticulous. Way meticulous. While I asked questions along the way, I wanted to make sure that we we're done when this project was finished. They did the important stuff they needed to do first, always looking ahead to the next steps, and left some things for completion at a later time, which they fully completed. Not a problem at all, and no need to question them about much. Wow, just wow. We don't usually see that kind of thoroughness in my area, but we did with Innovative Woodworks on this project. We requested a couple of additional items when the work started. A gate atop the stairwell to keep our dog from fleeing. No problem was their reply. And this wasn't some garbage last minute gate they built. They put in a cedar framed gate, with balusters to match the railing, and a latching mechanism that's very robust and will prevent the gate from sagging, and from the dog trying to get out. The second request was for a couple of additional electrical outlets. Again, not a problem, and had the electrician install them. The covered porch is 16x20 with gabled roof, with an adjacent 16x8 open deck. Overall dimensions are 16x28. Every piece of lumber was cut on site. Every individual piece of hardware was installed on site. No pre-fab anything used, not even the railings, which are cedar with black iron posts and simply gorgeous. Railings have rounded edges and were routed on site. Innovative Woodworks far, far, far exceeded our expectations, which were already high given the pervious reviews on Angie's List. I almost took those older reviews with a grain of salt, but no need to. They actually are right on. It was easy to write this review too. Noticing so many positive aspects of their work, work ethic, professionalism, and workmanship made this easy to write. I made mental notes through this project to write all these details in this review. My brother-in-law and his wife also signed a contract with Innovative Woodworks based on the work they've done at our home. I suspect others in our subdivision will get estimates and do projects with these folks too. They're work is - that- good. Good luck with your projects, whatever they might be. But include Innovative Woodworks in your plans should they be for a porch, deck, gazebo, screened room, or anything similar. I hope what they do for you is as good as the work they did for us. I always request that companies like this "not change." This crew has worked together for many years. They're not subcontractors, rather they're employees of the Company, and it shows in their pride and finished product!

Pete came to do our quote. He was wonderful to work with, offering us a few options and explaining the advantages of each. Permit was obtained by them without issue. The project actually started a day early!! Everything was done with exceptional quality. We are awaiting the inspector's final thumbs up, but we are absolutely thrilled with the outcome.
Description of Work: Expanded our existing deck and replaced the stairs, building it all so it is up to code.

I contacted 3 contractors, all A rated by Angie's List. Jason was the only contractor who came out and actually examined the job. The other 2 did phone estimates (given demensions and materials desired) wer much higher one at 13,500,the other at 10,000. I signed the contract in May, Jason said it would be in August. Due to rain and vacations, the job was performed in late August. Dominique and his crew of 2 arrived on the appointed day, unloaded and went to work. The team is professional, pleasant and fast. They had the old rotten deck totally down in 3 hours. They started the joists and stringers that afternoon. The concrete for support was poured last thing as to cure overnight. As I had Breda Pest Control scheduled to treat the house along the deck side, they stopped late that night. Breda arrived on time, did the treatment the next day and 2 crew folks started to work promptly. They built some really nice benches, sized to match the height of our deck chairs. They used screws to anchor the decking which is better than the previous contractor. They cleaned as they went, made sure I was pleased with the work. My husband and I are very pleased with the new deck. The benches are comfortable and it looks so nice, even though not stained yet. We certainly would recommend this company to our neighbors.
Description of Work: He demolished the old deck and build a new deck with slightly smaller footprint.

We are very pleased with the work done by Innovative Woodworks. We worked with Jasper to complete a deck in a very tight timeframe, in conjunction with a patio installation by another Angie's List company. The coordination was very well done and the job came in on time. The deck is beautiful and we have received many compliments. When there were minor followup issues, they were fixed to our total satisfaction. Couldn't be more pleased!

Jasper showed up on time to do the estimate and he never put any sales pressure on us. We basically had a discussion of what we wanted to do and with Jasper's suggestions we came up with a plan we liked. The three man team assigned to do our work was the best group of workers we have ever had work on our home. After the concrete was poured for the section under the deck I was amazed at the effort that was put in to making sure each support post and deck was level. The team showed up on time every day, worked late, and cleaned up the area before they left. During the job we made several changes and while we anticipated being told something could not be done, the only comment we heard was "yes, we can do that for you". One example is that I asked for a shelf to be added in the corner for a TV and instead of a shelf they built a beautiful corner wall cabinet that is one of the first things our visitors notice. The existing sunroom had some wood and gutters that needed to be replaced and lattice panels and a door added to the exposed area under the sunroom. The interior area of the screened porch that was wood was stained and all exterior areas painted which made everything look fresh. I was surprised and pleased that Jasper showed up almost every day to check on the work and I could see that he has a very good relationship with his teams. As I watched the building process I noticed there was very little talking and I asked Dominick, the on-site supervisor, about this and he said this team has been working together for 8 years and they know what needs to get done each day and they just do it . The work was started and completed before we expected and the work has exceeded our expectations. Since the work has been completed we have had a few people over to enjoy the screened porch and several have already contacted Jasper and asked him for a bid on their deck. When we started this process we decided to use 'Angie's List' and we had another company give us a bid and we saved $$ by using Innovative Woodworks and they are already scheduled to do some more work for us in the fall.
Description of Work: a deck was added to the back of the house with one end being a screened porch, the center section an open deck, and the remainder of the deck already had a sunroom that we had the exterior updated and painted.

Jasper gave us a quote for the deck on April 1,2013. The quote sounded reasonable and he was very professional. We asked to also get samples and quotes on lighting and a couple of other things. It took follow-up calls for everything. We decided we would go with them anyway because they had such high ratings on Angie's list. We called & emailed to let them know we were ready to discuss when it could be done. After several attempts we were told in June that it would be September. We said Ok let's discuss the details and put us on the schedule. We were told he would get back with us. He did not. We decided at that time it would be better to go with someone more reliable. Jasper is very nice and we hope the company does well but they need to give better follow-up/follow-through for this to happen.

Experience was good. What made me a little nervous was the two F's recently on here. They seem to be about $700.00 less then anyone else. I asked if they could get me in by end of July but no one has responded back to me. This has probably led me to let someone else do the work.
Description of Work: This write up is merely for the consultation we had about the possible deck.
