I greatly appreciate the high quality of service provided by Quenton and Lance. They were very knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant. And they were very patient with my dozens of questions. They provided me with a number of possible solutions for the problems we were having with our chimney, making it clear what repairs were critical and which ones could wait. They were just really good at explaining everything about the whole process to a first-time owner of a house with a fireplace! I learned a lot and really enjoyed talking with them. I would like to also acknowledge Ronda in the main office for being so helpful with scheduling and making sure I knew about coupons that were available on their website. We have had to have a number of repairs on our new home since moving in last month (painting, electrical, you name it!). But no experience has been more positive than the one we had with Chimney Solutions!
Description of Work: They cleaned the chimney of our new house, which looked like it hadn't been cleaned previously for a number of years. They also provided a thorough inspection of the interior and exterior. They explained their findings clearly and patiently and provided me with a number of options for possible remediation.

It was fine. They had to come out a couple of times but it worked out. There wasn't any problem. Their responsiveness was okay. It took them several weeks to come out here. They were backed up. They were just busy. I'm not sure I'm going to use them again. I'll probably check another company.
Description of Work: I used the Big Deal for Chimney Solutions. They did some repairs for me. They actually did run a camera down the first time they came out so when they came out the second time they did the camera inspection.

My original chimney was built incorrectly and upon purchase of my new home, Chimney Solutions came out and gave a thorough evaluation and estimate. They were professional and true consultants. Instead of shoving 1 solution and price at me, they gave 2 varying ways to fix the chimney - re-tilt back into place or tear down and build back. Obviously each had different prices, and I wasn't sure which one to move forward with. I asked for their opinion and they actually recommended the less expensive option. This is unheard of in the industry and made me feel quite comfortable with them. Their trustworthy approach and down to earth professionalism made me write this review. In the end, they completed the chimney re-tilt in a timely manner and, re-mortared to same color and water proofed back to new! From the estimate, to the communication, to the execution, to the people who did the work, this is a company that I highly recommend. I cannot express my gratitude and thankfulness enough to Chimney Solutions for helping me fix my chimney. Thanks again - Tyler

The tech did the inspection first and after doing it indicated that to clean the chimney it would be $299. I told him that I had an Angie's list coupon for $199 to do both. He then did research and indicated that it was included and he would clean it. The tech asked if i wanted to have the cracks sealed for an extra fee which I agreed to. However, he used a really big thick black caulk. I should have asked about this I guess. I went to store and purchased some caulk that matched the fireplace and fixed it so it would not look so bad.

7/18/2015 UPDATE: We gave Chimney Solutions a chance to fix their mistakes and perform the work at a discount. They came out and installed the new gas burner and fireglass. It is beautiful. The problem is that the remote we ordered was not the one that was sent. We are again waiting on the correct part, but definitely enjoying our new fireplace. The quality of work was very good and Chip is very professional at his job. INITIAL REVIEW: Our initial impression started out good with Chip Carruth coming to our house and giving us an estimate to change an outdoor fireplace into a design we wanted. The parts were to take 30 days to order and we expected the job to be done in probably 2 months. We were slow to give them an answer on the color of the fireglass, however, after 90 days and a complaint email we finally heard from them that their supplier did not order the fireglass because they didn't know the size. I told Melissa Wilson, their office manager, the size and she said we would hear from her in 7 days. After 10 days, I sent another email complaining about the time it was taking and she once again blamed their supplier. Finally, the glass came and and we scheduled installation for the next week. The day before install, I received a call from Melissa apologizing that the part they have had waiting to be installed for 60 days was the wrong size, and it would take another 30 days to order the write size. Well, that was enough. She gladly refunded my money and I am going to find another company to do our job. They need to man up and stop blaming their suppliers. They are MY contact, and they are responsible for their mistakes. There was no urgency in our job, and they did not put any extra effort into making it successful. Why didn't they notice they received the wrong part 3 months ago? Just felt like I needed to be sure other consumers were aware of our experience as they might encounter the same problem with this company.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for updating our outdoor fireplace to a new gas burner with fireglass and automatic starter.

Initially, I was skeptical that they would do everything they claimed they would. Just my nature. Charles showed up on time. Gave me his business card as he entered the residence. Laid his tarp down before starting to perform his work. Stayed focused and attentive with everything he did. I expected them to try and up-sell me something, anything, didn't matter. Quite the opposite happened. They simply did what they said they would do,did it in a professional manner, cleaned up after himself and was on his way. I'll have them back and would recommend their services to anyone and everyone who asks. Glad they are on Angie's List.

He was on time. I will not use them as i think I will try to find someone with cheaper price. It's my own choice of not using them again, there was nothing wrong this company did, it's just my personal choice. Maybe I will look at others and they charge the same as they did maybe then I will use them again.

Update: Within 24 hours of posting this review, I received a call from Chris, the owner. He was clearly upset with my review and wanted to make things right. I greatly appreciated his attentiveness and desire to fix the situation. HIs concern appeared genuine and he did apologize for our experience. I do hate that it took a bad review to get a follow up call but either way I am pleased that he did respond so quickly. Because of his quick response, I have raised my review to a "C" and will give them another shot. Maybe this was just a really bad week or growing pains. Inspection/Cleaning: We used Chimney Solutions annually up until about 5 years ago and then we slacked off. During our good years, we had them replace our chimney cap in 2005. They were wonderful - not the cheapest - but easy to work with, responsive when you called, explained things thoroughly. Had no complaints. So, when I realized how long it had been since our chimney had been cleaned, I did not hesitate to call them back out this year. The cleaning appointment was great. They did find a fairly wide crack in the panel with a chunk missing and recommended not using the fireplace until it was repaired. I was not too surprised by their finding, given that I knew there was a hair line crack 5 years ago. Estimate was for $844. The technician emailed his report and an estimate at that time. He did a wonderful job of cleaning up after himself, protecting our house and was very polite to talk with. Our family discussed this repair (as it was optional - we do not HAVE to burn our fireplace) and opted to go ahead and make the repairs. We like to have fires and like knowing that we CAN use it if there is ever a power outage. Scheduled the replacement for a Friday afternoon - as this should only take about 2 hours. My husband called to be sure that they were not going to need to remove the back wall behind the firebox. This would mean opening our house to the outside and we didn't want to risk being stuck with an open house through a rainy weekend if something went wrong and the repair was delayed. We had heard stories from 2 friends that had bad experiences with repairs that required the back wall to be removed and we were just not up for that. Husband was assured that this was not the case - everything could done from the front w/o any demolition to repair. Repair appointment: Technician showed up on time. He actually called and asked if he could come early - was in the area and finished his previous job early. Perfect! When he arrived, he carefully moved all my stuff (foot stool, fireplace tools, etc) out of the way and laid down a large canvas tarp. Remove the panels and old gas starter. He ran into a problem with the construction of our floor panel. There was a space along the front of the firebox with no sheet metal underneath so he was unable to pour a new floor like he had intended. He was going to need to order a replacement pre-fab panel. He went to his truck & called the office to see if one was available. If so, he could go get it and still finish the install today. If not, it would need to be ordered or he would need to cut one using the old one as a template. He came back in and said he could not find that model fireplace anymore - even googled it . He could not find any information on it. So, he would need to cut a panel. He offered to layer new sheet metal down over what was there and then pour the floor as originally planned so that we could be finished today. He also said that he did not recommend this repair - I am not sure why - didn't question it. So, the new plan was he take our old floor and go into the shop tomorrow morning (Sat) cut the new floor and then come back out on Sat afternoon to finish up. I offered that we could reschedule for next week - there was no reason to work through the weekend on it. We did not need the fireplace done that urgently. He insisted that it was ok - it was his day off and he would like to finish up. So, Ok by me - as I'd rather just get it off my to-do list and maybe he felt the same way. I told him that we would be home from noon - 5 so anytime in there was fine. He said he would text in the morning when he was on his way and it would be close to noon. 2nd app't: Come Saturday . . . . I texted him at about 10 am to tell him that I was going to be out and my husband was going to be home. Gave him my husband's cell number as I was going to be unavailable. By early-afternoon hadn't heard anything, I called him and left a message. Still hadn't heard anything by late afternoon. I called the customer service director to leave a message for Monday morning about getting this scheduled for Monday and to inquire about the health of our installer and if he was ok then where was he? The director answered my call, I apologized for bothering him on the weekend, explained the situation and offered that he could call me on Monday to resolve it. He wanted to call the technician and texted me back that the tech was not answering his calls either. So, we let it be until Monday. On Monday, the director called me and said that the tech 'just forgot'. Offered to have someone come out and put down sheet metal and pour the floor. Which was fine by me as long as it was the best repair. Mentioned that the repairman said it was not - at which point he didn't argue and planned to have a panel cut to fit. He then scheduled for the SAME repairman to come back out on THURSDAY to finish the job. At this point I was over it and did not feel like wasting my breath. If the head of customer service did not feel like it was prioritize a job after standing a client up then I was not going to change his standards. Also, I was frankly surprised that this repairman still had a job after the Saturday no-show, let alone be sent back out the same house. But then again, I didn't know who their other repairmen were. Maybe this was as good as it got. Figured I stay with the known instead of gambling on the unknown. 3rd repair app't: This time he showed up with an assistant in tow. He did have the decency to seem embarrassed but never acknowledged Saturday nor made any attempt to apologize. I did not bring it up either - it was on him to step up. I think if he had made some attempt at an earnest apology things would have felt better. He is young and I could forgive a slip in work ethic. Anyway, didn't go that direction. They cut the new panel on site - did not even have this prepped when they got there. Uggh - that was whole reason he left on Friday - he needed to go into the shop to cut the panel. They did finish the repair w/ a lot of banging and frustrated words but it was done. On his previous visit, he had offered to paint the new panels black. He mentioned that they would not match very well and this would help hide it. I wasn't sure and we decided to wait until they were in and see how it looked. He finished and called me over to check it all out and sign off on the work. After looking, it was obvious that the colors and patterns did not match. I mentioned that I would like it painted. Unfortunately, he had already packed up but he got his can of spray paint and painted until he ran out of paint about 3/4 of the way through. He apologized and said he would not charge me the $5 for the paint. Good choice on his part because he never mentioned this charge (not that it wasn't a fair price but I was not informed) and he was not able to finish due to his lack of preparation. He did advise me on what type of paint to buy or he would come back out and finish it. I chose to just buy a can a Home Depot and do it myself. He said that was good as it was going to need a second coat anyway. Final thoughts: After all that happened, technician still showed up unprepared. The panel was not cut so they were here for a couple of hours and his truck was only stocked with a partial can of spray paint. As I said, he is young and who hasn't had that early work experience where everything went wrong. You never forget those and they are the lessons that stick with you. I am disappointed that this tech chose not to accept responsibility for standing us up and apologize. But he is just a single employee and maybe needs some more mentoring. Ultimately, I am much more concerned with the director's choices. He is a leader in the company and the one in charge of customer service. His choices reflect the overall ethics of the company. And, while he did apologize for the inconvenience on Saturday, he never followed his words with actions. I was anticipating that my repair be made a priority instead of being put off for 4 more days and scheduled when they had 'an opening'. Also, I would have expected that after an employee makes a mistake, the company would insist on sending out a senior technician. Sure, bring the younger guy in tow. Coach him on how to apologize and finish what you start. But not to send him back out again on his own. I am not upset at all about the challenges to fixing my particular fireplace. I get that repairs can have unexpected challenges. My concern is the maturity of the technician and the priorities of the customer service manager. I will look for another company for my future fireplace maintenance and repairs. Not because Chimney Solution is not capable of doing a good job but because I have lost trust in their service.

We are extremely pleased with the service from this company. Chip was our first point of contact . He evaluated our situation, listened to our desires and concerns and patiently described the options we could consider. Once we narrowed the options down, he gave us a detailed estimate broken into sections so we could select according to our budget. John was the lead technician for the installation. He and his crew were very professional, hard working, and detailed. They completed the project in just two days arriving on time each morning and leaving the area clean and neat each evening. Each person we talked with were friendly and more than willing to answer any questions including a demo of the new fireplace and walk thru on how to use the remote. We are extremely happy with the new gas fireplace and the maintenance done on our existing wood burning fireplace. We high recommend Chimney Solutions.
Description of Work: Installed New Caliber Direct Vent gas fireplace in our basement. This included installing a new Boral cultured stone surround, a raised hearth, a custom wood mantle, an upgraded refractory, a blower fan kit and remote. It required installing a gas line with a shut off valve and electrical wiring. The main level wood burning fireplace had a crack in the refractory so they evaluated it and replaced the back wall, swept the chimney, and installed a new rain pan and associated minor repairs.

They were booked about two weeks out. Once they arrived it went well. The technician was friendly, professional and honest. He gave us insights and options about our fireplace. Helped us get it started and provided a full report the next day. The price was lower of the two quotes we received but more expensive in general than I had hoped. The service was top notch though so overall I would recommend others to this company.

It went well. I was not sure he performed a chimney sweep in line with my understanding of that work. I felt that I should have asked more questions. They did a great job of making the fireplace usable and waterproof. They needed to come back after the initial work was done and they were very responsive and focused on making sure I was a satisfied customer. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: I am not that familiar with chimney and fireplace terminology, but our fireplace did not work and it leaked. We essentially had let the fireplace go for the past 10 years. We are selling our house -- and older home -- and needed to get the fireplace working and not leaking from the chimney. Chimney Solutions did a great job of addressing our issues, which included fixing the firebox, flashing, and otherwise waterproofing the chimney.

I thought something was wrong with the ignition on my fireplace. They checked it out to find that it was a manual-lite gas fireplace. This visit was basically a service call to teach me how to use my fireplace in a new (yet old) home. The service person was helpful, smart, and gave good pointers.

Unfortunately, it's the kind of work that's necessary, but you can't see it or notice any difference. The old chimney cap was quite rotted and left the chimney exposed to rain and snow. Nothing good could come from that so when a corner board fell off and I asked someone to check it out they reported that the chimney cap also needed replacing and boards tightened. I'm assuming they did great work. They were very professional and punctual. I'm quite confident that they performed excellent work.
