Excellent. Steve and his assistant Edgar started on a Thursday and finished the job 2 days later. Steve was very professional and conscientious about the service/work he was performing. I am 100% thrilled with the completed work, the stoop makes my whole house "pop" and I am using them again for a future interior project. I wish there was somewhere on here that I could post before and after pictures because you would be amazed!!
Description of Work: Steve installed tile on my front stoop over brick that was falling apart.
Steve was the consummate professional right from the start. He scheduled an appointment right away on a Saturday to accommodate my schedule and provided me a written estimate the following day on Sunday. He gave me a realistic time table of when he would be able to start and how long it would take. When his schedule opened up and he was able to start earlier then planned he gave me that option. The estimate was very detailed and specific to exactly what would be included in the estimate and which items I would pay for directly. Steve was there with the cabinet maker and offered good suggestions on design and functionality and also was there to help me select tile and made great recommendations for the design and use of the different tiles, such as trimming out the bench and the inset and using tile for the floor trim instead baseboards and shoe moulding. It definitely gave the room a professional designer touch. When the linen cabinet came in with drawers instead of shelves, he had the guys out to make the change the same day. I would definitely recommend Steve for this type of job and would definitely contact him for future projects.
Description of Work: I purchased a new construction townhome but the master bath was totally dysfunctional, and the finishes were basic contractor grade. When I looked at all the things I wanted to change, I decided to start from scratch and get everything just the way I wanted including a completely new travertine tiled, full sized standing shower with a bench and insets, all new plumbing fixtures, new custom cabinetry with a linen cabinet, granite countertop, and porcelain tile floor.
Steve is wonderful to work with! A true professional and perfectionist. He is a craftsman and does top quality work. We plan to have him back to finish tiling the rest of our basement.
Description of Work: We had a room in our basement remodeled: removed carpet, closet and door, and replaced drywall and tiled the floor. In the process we discovered that the exterior door and threshold had a lot of deterioration and rot, and they replaced the door for us as well.
We had been wanting to remodel our master bathroom for some time. We have been in this house since it was built, 15 years ago. The first company came out, looked at the bathroom, made a few notes and said he would call us back with an estimate. He never called back. Then we turned to Angie's List. We found G & E Tile Company and read their reviews. I went to their web site and looked at all of the pictures and testimony there also. I called Steve Kouvelas and set up an appointment for him to come out and see what we wanted to do and hopefully give us an estimate. I was totally impressed with Steve from the first meeting on. First of all, he showed up on time for the meeting. He took off his shoes and came in with his socks on! I told him that he didn't have to take off his shoes, and he said that he didn't want to either track in dirt or scratch my floors. I am starting to get impressed at this point. He carefully examined the bathroom we planned to remodel. He listened very attentively to my explanation of what we would like to have done. He took measurements and made a lot of notes. He made suggestions of what he could and would do. He explained what would and what would not be included in his estimate when we received it. He explained the history of his company and their experience in remodeling and tile work. He was very professional, courteous and polite. When he left I had a good feeling and hopes of good things to come from this meeting. The next day I received an email from Steve with the proposal, detailing services to be performed by G & E Tile, materials they would supply and any material I would need to supply. I showed the proposal to my wife that night and she was totally pleased with the proposal. I contacted Steve and sent him a signed Proposal/Contract. We agreed on a date when he was to start and when they would be finished. I crossed my fingers and said a prayer. A little over a week later when the proposed start date arrived, Steve and his crew arrived at exactly the time he said he would. I was getting a little more impressed. The first thing they did was to cover my floors where they would be coming in and out with cloth tarps. Then he used "painters tape" to seal off a closet door and prevent dust from the demolition from getting into the closet! Talk about attention to detail! They had the old shower torn out, the wall next to it removed, the old sinks and counter tops removed, and all the old tile floor removed the first day. I had expressed a concern to Steve about the possibility of the custom made stained glass window over the garden tub getting damaged during demolition. He assured me that no harm would come to the window during any of their work here. So far he was correct. I am a little more impressed at this point! The second day, the new plumbing was installed for the shower, new Durock panels installed on the floor and new shower area and the shower pan, drain and floor poured. The next day the new granite counter top arrived and was installed with the new sinks. The setting of the tile started about this time also. The glass company came in and measured for the new glass wall and shower door. Things are moving along well! The tile setting continued for the next couple of days. I was only expecting someone to slap down the tile in any old way it would fit. I was blown away when I started to see what Steve and his crew were doing! They are artists. They are Master Craftsmen when it comes to tile cutting and setting. The way they creatively cut and set the tile was beyond all my expectations. The glass door and wall was installed on time as promised. Then the walls were painted a new color. Steve Kouvelas and his crew were always on time, always careful, and always professional. Their attention to detail is unbelievable. They fulfilled the proposal as promised. They finished the entire job in the time allotted. And, they were on budget! I am so totally impressed with G & E Tile and Steve Kouvelas that I plan on having them remodel my other bathroom and my kitchen as soon as I can. Did I mention anywhere that I was impressed? I am so impressed with Steve and G & E Tile that I will gladly recommend they to anyone and everyone I can! P.S.....The stained glass window came through without any damage, as promised by Steve! I guess that crossing my fingers may have helped and I am sure that the prayer was answered! Thanks to God and Angie's List!
Description of Work: Demolition of old shower, a wall, counter tops, tile floor. Removal of debris. Installed new plumbing fixtures in shower, new counter top, new fixtures for sinks, new tile floor, new tile shower with glass wall and door, new tile border around existing garden tub, new paint on walls. This included building a recessed shelf into the wall in the shower and a corner seat in the shower, new Durock panels on the walls that were covered by tile in the shower and on the floor before the tile was laid there. Installation of all tile, grout, and sealing of the tile and granite counter top.

They came in after a dishonest con artist had dismantled our shower and took a huge deposit and never returned. They never asked for any money up front. This time we bought our own materials. Then they showed up on time, went the extra mile by fixing a sheet rock problem and a plumbing problem in the drain. Then in 3 days they were finished and our shower is restored, done right and beautiful. We will have them back to do our other shower in a few months. I would highly recommend them for any remodeling situation.

Steve returned my initial call the same day, and came by to give an estimate promptly at the appointed time. He advised me what materials I needed, how much the job would be and how long it would take to complete the work. He changed the first date at my request with no problem. The job was done on 6/18/2011. He called the day before to confirm, sent me a copy of the contract by e-mail and again arrived at the appointed time. He and one helper did the job in a timely manner. They were organized, professional and put everything back in place. He went the extra mile and adjusted the base of an over-the-toilet shelving unit so it would fit over the new higher toilet. They also rehung a mirror better than it was before.........with stronger nails and in the studs!! :>) I would refer Steve in a heartbeat, and appreciate that Angie's list could put me in touch with him. The floor looks MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!

As soon as I found him, I called him. He came out the following day and gave me a quote. I went that Saturday and picked out the tiles. He went Monday morning and picked up the tiles. He came out and put my flooring in one day. He took out old one and put the new one. I really liked him and he was very reasonable. He was very prompt and very professional. I paid him $600 for tearing up my carpet, chipping up my tile, installing new tile and putting in grout. He cleaned up after himself. He did a really good job and in short amount of time that was amazing. In one day, he came and took all the old stuff, got rid of it, put in the new one and it was beautiful. He came out two days later and sealed it. He did what he said he was going to do. He charged what he said he was going to charge. He didn't go up and he didn't dilly dally. He didn't charge me extra and was good. He was polite and very respectful. He came out very quickly. The work looks nice and I'm very pleased with the whole procedure.

Steve was here on time to give me an estimate on tiling my bathroom. I thought it was a fair price and contracted with him to remove old tile and carpet, remove and replace toilet and install new tile. We bought the tile and grout and G&E installed it, cleaned up and sealed the tile. The job was done in 1 day and 2 days later the sealer was applied. I'm very pleased with the outcome.

I bought all the fixtures and tile beforehand and just needed the installation work done. Steve gave me a written estimate, then showed up early on the appointed day and got to work. He even stayed late on Valentine's Day to make sure the job was finished to my satisfaction. Everything is working properly and my powder room looks fabulous!!!! I will definitely be calling G&E again when I need remodeling work done.
Description of Work: Powder room remodel. Replaced toilet, removed old pedestal sink and installed new vanity, sink and faucet, installed new light fixture, installed tile backsplash.
Steve Kouvelas did an excellent job. I would have to say that he is the best contractor that we have ever used. He was the third contractor that we had look at our master bathroom and we knew right away that he was the right one for the job. His pricing was better that the general contractors that we had look at the space. In addition, he completely managed the project and he had many very good ideas that enhanced the final look tremendously. He even went with us to look at the cabinets, granite, and countertops. When we had some some changes mid way through, it was not a problem and it did not delay the project. He is a master at tile work and was extremely responsive; he even had the electrician come back after the project was completed to make some modifications that we requested. In conclusion, Steve masterfully transformed our drab bathroom that was stuck in the 1980s into a wonderful spa retreat.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of our large Master Bathroom. This included demo and removal of the existing tiles, fixtures, cabinets, and countertops. The tile was replaced on the floor and the shower. In addition, new cabinets, granite countertops, and new plumbing fixtures were installed.

Steve contacted me right away to schedule an estimate, and sent the estimate to me in writing the next day. Not only was his estimate the lowest of the three I received, but he and his crew did an excellent job. Once we notified Steve that we wanted him to do the work, he scheduled the job on a weekend so we could have it completed before Memorial Day. Steve met us at the tile store and helped us pick out the tile, then delivered it directly to our house and started work. We had been considering installing stone, but Steve and he store owner steered us toward a more durable (and less expensive) ceramic that looks just like stone. We are very pleased with the results and would definitely recommend this company.

Everything was ok during my initial phone conversations with Steve and his visit to look over the project. I was a little concerned by the verbal estimates of $300 for installation of each new plumbing fixture and each niche shelf in the shower. Since I was looking at replacing two shower heads and a tub faucet, as well as installing two niche shelves in the shower, this seemed excessive. Since my budget for the project was already tight, I wasn't sure I could afford this in any case. I mentioned to Steve that I had been told by various people in recent years, that the shower was leaking a significant amount of water into the crawl space. He asked if he could take a look himself, which was fine with me. I am in a wheelchair, so I can't go into the crawl space myself and have to rely on others to tell me about these problems. Steve came back from the crawl space, saying that he saw no indication that there had ever been a leak from the shower. This really concerned me, since it conflicted with what I was hearing from everyone else. I later had someone take pictures of the water damage so I could see it myself. At that point, I decided that either Steve was not being honest with me, or he didn't know what he was looking at. In any case, I decided to go with someone else for this project. Without waiting for the written quote, I informed Steve of my decision. When my chosen contractor tore out the existing shower, he confirmed that the subfloor and underlying floor joists were all rotted and moldy. He ended up replacing the entire subfloor and five floor joists under my 7x7 foot shower. Based on my experience with Steve, I can't recommend him to anyone else.

I am completely shocked with this report. Never in our 12 years of doing business in the State of Georgia and 25 years in the State of New York have we had someone not recommend us for a job we didn't even perform. I told him based on what I had seen in the crawl space that I couldn't see any visible water damage. There is a possibility that it was overlooked but even looking back through my notes and from what I could remember I did not see a water leak, and I apologize for this. To question my credibility and work ethic for something that may have been overlooked is not fair, especially when we never actually worked on the project. There are many cases where water damage is not visible only when after demolition is complete. More than 75% of the time water damage is worse than it may appear. As far as the member, he seemed like a nice person but definitely there were several misunderstandings. The price for $300 was for a Roman Tub faucet which are always more expensive, a typical vanity faucet is between $100 and $150. Our typical pricing for a recessed shelf is $150, and in his case he wanted 2. It seemed like he had misunderstood me on a verbal note and never gave me an opportunity to send him Proposal in writing. I must state also another fact, in all my years of business I've never had an afternoon appt. and a homeowner respond the next morning to inform me that he will not need my written estimate because he had chosen someone else. Now reading his report it all makes sense why he never wanted a written estimate from me. Nevertheless, I am happy that he found a contractor that he was happy with but in this rare case it's obvious there were verbal misunderstandings and credibility being questioned that made him feel this way.The fact is our company strives for excellence and quality work with fair pricing which he would have experienced if he would have allowed us to at least send him a free written estimate before assuming to question our crediblity.

An incompetent tile setter had made a lot of mistakes two months ago that had to be corrected. Steve K. was extremely helpful pointing out what needed to be done and saved us a lot of money by re-using the tile he removed. The tile setter was excellent and the tile are all cut square and lay flat and are spaced evenly. We couldn't be more pleased with the results.

Wonderful experience with a very nice and knowledgable professional (Steve). He gave me quotes for as little or as much as I might want to do in upgrading an existing bathroom and did not push me to do any more than I wanted to do. He had excellent ideas and recommendations and all men who did the actual labor were nice, hard working. I look forward to working with this company again and highly recommend them.

This was a positive experience! The man and his assistant who did the tiling really did an excellent job. They were very industrious and worked right along. I really liked them. From beginning to end Louie and Steve were a pleasure to work with. Unlike ordinary contractors, they didn't try to "sell" their services. Their estimate was extremely fair and they started the job on-time the day we agreed to start. They arrived on-time each and every day and cleaned up the work area at the end of each day. Steve and his crew are "Tile Craftsman". All tiles are flat and lines are perfectly straight. I can't say enough about how happy I am with the quality of their work. In addition, G and E construction (Louie and Steve)are a pleasure to work with. Far too often I feel like it's always a struggle dealing with contractors but they made the whole experience a very pleasant one. I would definitely have them back to do more work!!!
Description of Work: Steve tiled my basement floor with porcelain tile. The finished basement previously had laminate flooring which got wet and had to come up. The basement includes a living/dining area, separate bedroom with a full bathroom and a walk in closet.
We used G & E in the past when our sunroom was damaged in a hurricane. Louie had mentioned that one of his sub-contractors does carpet work and he (Louie) does great tile work. So we used them when we needed to remove our damaged basement carpet, replace it with new and put some tile in front of the door in case of water seepage. Fantastic price, well below competitors, much nicer carpet, quick and quality work.

LOUIE MADE WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE AS SMOOTH AS POSSIBLE. HE WAS VERY COMPETITIVE IN PRICE, VERY FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL, AS WERE THE SUB-CONTRACTORS AND OTHER WORKERS HE HAD WORKING WITH HIM, AND PROVIDED QUALITY SERVICE. THE END RESULT IS OUR SUNROOM LOOKS AS GOOD AS NEW, AS DOES THE DECK AND OUTSIDE. THE ROOF IS GREAT AND HE WAS ABLE TO MATCH OUR INSIDE PAINT - HE ALSO PROVIDED SOME VERY GOOD ADVICE AND RE-PAINTED OUR ENTIRE DECK WITH ANOTHER COLOR HE SUGGESTED, SO IT LOOKS BETTER THAN BEFORE. THIS IS A GREAT FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS. WE ALWAYS SENSED THAT HE WAS COMPLETELY HONEST WITH US.
