Description of Work: I asked for a ballpark figure for a metal roof. Unlike most, he didn't hesitate to get a number for me so I'd have an idea of whether it was in my budget or not. He gave me prices from the bottom up so I would know what kind of pricing to expect. Being a retired widow, I knew I could never afford this type roof. I told him this and he gave me tips on how to hire a roofer. He certainly didn't need to do this because he was extremely busy but he still took the time. This is the type of company you want to do business with. No pressure, just facts and helpful tips. I'd hire him in a NY minute if I could!!!

Response from Triple Crown Roofing
[Member Name], I am so sorry that there was a miscommunication or understanding of your roofing project. I distinctly remember sitting at your table telling you and your mother that in my bid to save you some money we could replace the rotted sections of the roof. From my roof top inspection I estimated that the entire perimeter needed to be replaced about two feet up from the eve on both sides of mobile home. During this process if more wood was to be found then it would have to be replaced. I also gave you the option of tearing all the shingles off and installing a peel & stick underlayment. I would have hoped if you had any concerns that you would have called me and maybe I could have explained it better. I hope you received a quality job and I am sorry for the confusion. As you can see from other reviews we do replace rotted wood. We strive to provide our customers with the best service possible.

Description of Work: After having dealt with a bad home Inspector who missed a roof leak and the contractor he hired to fix the roof(which they didn't), Triple Crown roofing came in and saved the day. We had just purchased this new home with a tin roof not knowing it had a leak until after we moved in. The previous roofers at Cardinal Roofing claimed to be experts in metal roofs but it was clear they weren't. The leak continued until Triple Crown roofing came out and fixed it. We will continue to use then for any maintenance we may have on our tin roof and are really happy with the responsiveness and quality of their work.

Description of Work: I was in search of roofers that wanted to work. These two gentlemen were exceptionally punctual, informative and had excellent reviews from the roofing vendor. Unfortunately, as a business owner myself, I choose to go with a firm that was able to offer interest free financing for 12 months. I felt more comfortable being able to hold on to my equity line at this time, for my business purposes. However, I would recommend Triple Crown.

Description of Work: ROOF HISTORY: Our home was built in 1960 with a concrete tile roof. In 1993, when we bought the home as the second owner, we removed the tile roof and put on shingles. Considering the shingle roof was 19 years old (although we didn’t have any leaks), we felt it was time for a new roof. By the way, we felt lucky we had a shingle roof for 19 years; however, the original shingle roof contractor, Albritton, was supposed to cut ridge vents over our roof and over the study. However, they did not cut the vent, but provided a ridge to look like a vent! Now we know why our study was so hot. On Dec 6, 2011, we contracted with Triple Crown for $23,226 for a new metal roof with PBR Roofing Panel (Commercial grade), 26 gauge, to include the PBR interlocking gutter. THE COMPETITION: I contacted ten (10) contractors, but I will talk about the final seven as they were the most viable. Most importantly, once we decided the material (Gulf Coast Supply & Manufacturing, LLC, 4020 SW 449th Street, Horseshoe Beach, FL 32648), I talked with them for recommended sources. This proved to be the good decision. FINAL CONTRACT: One item that I required in the contract was that all contractors have an I-9 for each employee. The purpose of the I-9 is to document that each new employee (both citizen and noncitizen) hired after November 6, 1986, is authorized to work in the United States. We also specified 150 mph winds, requested three (3) references, and the wind mitigation form for our insurance company. Finally, I wanted the contractor to sign “my contract” or sign his contract with all my specifications. I contacted the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Angie’s List, St. Petersburg City, Pinellas County and FL State to verify license, insurance and complaints. The companies that visited our home and we had negotiations are: KBS Metal Roofing Supply, LLC; Owens Roofing Contractor, Inc.; Green Roofing Technologies, Inc.; Tosca Roofing; Arry’s Roofing Services, Inc., FL Southern Roofing and Sheetmetal, Inc.; and Triple Crown Roofing KBS Metal Roofing Supply, LLC only provided the material, but no labor; therefore, we eliminated them in the beginning as we did not want to put the roof on ourselves. Owens Roofing never responded with a quote or proposal even after repeated reminder phone calls. This was unusual as the economic times are very difficult right now. Green Roofing sent over Robby Brown to meet with us and he had no knowledge of metal roofing. Unfortunately, it was a waste of our time. However, the next meeting was with Kelly Jackson, their metal roofing expert. He provided us a wonderful detailed specification and bid on a Gerard Lifetime Roof, but it was not the Galvalume as we wanted. Kelly worked very h a second quote, but he never provided me a second quote. I also never received the three references. Also, they do not do gutters. They also wanted to provide Drexel Material which we hear is excellent, but we had decided on Gulf Coast. Labor warranty was five years. BBB rating was A- and 2 complaints in 3 years (Product and Services); Angie’s List had no listing. License and insurance checked out ok. Tosca was the least expensive, but they could not do the gutters and the owner did not want to sign my contract. They were a very good contractor and Edel Travieso seemed very honest and forthcoming. Labor warranty was five years. BBB rating was A+ and 2 complaints in 3 years (Prod/Serv & Warranty), Angie’s List rating was a “B” with 2 Reports (1 "F" and 1 "A"). License and insurance checked out ok. Florida Southern Roofing was one of the top three contracts I considered. They were the second highest bid. I believe this is because they have more overhead than a small business. I tried to negotiate a lower amount, but they could not give on the price. They said we got their best price in the beginning. Their estimator, Mark Mazer, was very detailed and extremely honest. I had several technical questions that we had to contact Randy Finch (Operations) and he also was very helpful. They offered a labor warranty of 10 years. BBB rating was A+ and 3 complaints in 3 years (mainly Products), Angie’s List had no reports, but they were listed. License and insurance checked out ok. Arry’s Roofing Services, Inc. was our second place contractor. Unfortunately, they were the highest bid. However, you could see the quality in their bid by their thoroughness. Jayson Hansel and Mattew Housh were superb. Matter of fact, Mr. Housh really—I mean really—tried to work with me and gave me almost $6,000 off! BBB rating was A+ and 2 Complaint in 3 years, Angie’s List is “A” with Angie numerous comments that reported mainly "A", but a few "D"s & "F" regarding 2 or 3 roofs leaks. License and insurance checked out ok. Triple Crown Roofing was the second lowest contractor. This company impressed me the most! It was a small business with only four or five employees. The Foreman, Mike Royal, visited with us by himself. He was very impressive. He didn’t have any fancy folders or glossy sheets except from Gulf Coast. He talked with us to understand the job and how he would approach the performance to our satisfaction. He even recommended wrapping our pipe vents with Galvalume before applying the boots. Little precautionary items made us feel he really knew roofing. Mr. Royal also stated they would “beat any price”. We eventually met with Mike Royal and the Owner, Leon Nault. Again, we were impressed with their message and their work ethic. Mr. Nault was extremely honest and willing to do anything we wanted. Matter of fact, one small note is that we were going to add ventilation fans and a ridge vents. However, Mr. Nault warned us that using these both together with the size our home would probably not work (Florida Southern and Arry’s eventual told us this also, but Triple Crown caught it right off). BBB had no listing, Angie’s List had no reports, but they were listed. I did have one problem in researching their performance. When I called the Pinellas County, I found that his license had expired on May 26, 2009 (Triple Crown was notified on May 12, 2009 and all the permit offices were notified on June 24, 2009). Once pursuing this with Mr. Nault, he stated that he let the license expire since he does not have much business in Pinellas County. He stated that it would not be a problem to renew his license. He did renew the license and his insurance checked out ok. I received 13 references from Triple Crown. This is what sealed the deal. I think Nr. Nault was surprised because I called all 13 contacts. “All” the references could not say enough about the professionalism, thoroughness, quality of work, and pricing. In conclusion, I would not hesitate to contract with Triple Crown Roofing, Arry’s Roofing Services, Inc. and Florida Southern Roofing. Tosca was also on my final list, but more negotiations/research would have to be done. THE TECHNICAL RESEARCH ON SPECIFICATIONs FOR OUR ROOF: My husband is a professional engineer so he did research on the technical specifications. I know we were going to get a “grey” galvalume color, but after he did his research he decided white for the UV protection. Also, we applied a Polyglass Underlayment Membrane (Polystick TU plus) and the roof insulation was Covertech rFoil Reflective, double bubble double foil 5/16 with aluminum tape. We had battens installed and we brushed them with Borax to prevent termites. We also used the Lifetime Warranty WoodMAC Screws.
