Services we don't offer

iI have used Dales Gas for years for our pool/spa heater. As they are one of the few companies in the Orlando who work on this type of equipment I continued to use them even though their attitude was less than customer service oriented. Happily todays experience was exceptional. The technician arrived in a timely manner, he was very knowledgeable, helpful, identified the issue immediately repaired it and had the unit functioning properly in minutes. Great Job!!

As others have said, they are a busy company and you need to be available for when they can come out. I think this may be an area they are working on. At no charge, they sent someone out to look at our old unit and determined we would need a new pool heater. We then worked with someone else on the cost and type of unit we would need and if they could install a by-pass valve. We were told they couldn't. The installation did not go as well as planned and after looking at the direction manual, we determined a by-pass could have been installed. After the installation, Dales Gas followed up with a phone call to check on how the installation went. When the owner, Clint, heard of some of the problems we had, he went out of his way to assist us. He came out, met with us and followed up with a phone call on what would be done and they arranged for someone else to come out and at a time that would be convenient for us. These were not major issues but we got the impression the installation was not done to their high standards. One recommendation I would make to anyone who may have turned off the gas to their tank and unit is to be sure to have the gas reconnected before having the heater installed. There was a delay in using our heater because while we were told everything looked ok for the installation of the new heater, it really wasn't. We really feel that Clint and Dales Gas went out of there way to ensure we were happy customers and did not charge us any additional for the extra service he provided. We will definitely use Dales Gas in the future and feel comfortable in recommending them to others.

When Dales Gas Company came out, they told my wife that a lizard had taken out my pool heater and the cost to fix it would be $1200 to fix it. The heater problem described to the repair technician was an "intermittent" heating problem...and the problem was a lizard took out the heater?? The Dale's Gas repair technician did not leave any paperwork on the problem or a hard copy receipt. My wife was told to call and they would email it to me. Paid Dale's Gas company the $85 service charge and called another gas repair shop. The other company came out and within an hour, had the gas heater working by replacing two small parts (regulator) for a TOTAL COST of $230. DO NOT recommend using Dale's Gas Repairand hellip;.(1) the entire lizard story is total BS (2) charged $85 for a service call that provided a complete BS story and an estimate of $1200 that was highway robbery (3) never provided any documentation.

Hi (Member name removed)! I apologize that you had a bad experience with our company. I am really disappointed most that you thought it necessary to post a negative review without contacting our company to let us know that there was an issue. This service call was not called in by you but by another pool service company. We usually email all of our invoices as we are trying to go to a paperless system. Since we do not have your email address on file, this is probably why you did not receive a copy of your invoice. As for the service call, our technician, who has been a technician for over 10 years, diagnosed your issue with the heater and gave your wife all of the pricing and the repairs that were necessary as you were not there during the service. We are a licensed pool contractor and our reputation and our customers safety are extremely important to us. We do not take shortcuts in repairs or do inferior work to bandage a problem. We let our customers know every issue that we find after checking through a piece of equipment so that you can make an informed decision on your repairs. If you would have contacted the office to let us know your concerns, we would have sent the owner of the company out to meet with the service technician that told you that our diagnosis was incorrect and have him show us why. If it was determined that our technician did an incorrect diagnosis, we would have immediately refunded your service fee. I have had plenty of experience with unlicensed, inexperienced service companies trying to get ahead by bad mouthing us. We have been a family owned and operated business for over 30 years and do not advertise. We have a large, loyal customer base that was grown strictly through word of mouth and I am sorry that you felt that you could not call and speak with us to try to rectify this problem. If you would like to give us a chance to do so, please contact our office and we would be happy to speak with you regarding this issue. Thank you so much for your time. Have a great day!

It was rudely communicated by Dales Gas the appointment would be 10 AM, period, take it or leave it. Absolutely no attempt by Dales Gas to keep me as a loyal customer by offering some flexibility. Even after calling 10 days in advance for an afternoon appointment , anytime after 1PM. What service provider doesn't offer morning or afternoon appointments and value their loyal customers? Apparently, Dales Gas.
Description of Work: NOTHING ! After being a loyal customer of Dales gas since 2008, I called 10 days in advance to schedule a service call, " anytime after 1 PM" any day so my husband and I could schedule work to be home for the service call. Dales Gas said it would be Thursday, 9/19/2013. I was quoted a price for replacement part $240 plus service call charge which is not an issue. Dales gas called the day before to confirm appointment, however, Dales Gas could not accommodate the request for "anytime after 1 PM" as requested 10 days earlier.

When going back and listening to the recording of this conversation, We told the customer very politely when making the appointment that we would try our best to accommodate their preferred time but sometimes were unable to do so. We re-routed our routes numerous times to accommodate this customer (which was communicated to them) and got the window as close as we possibly were able. Since they were a customer since 2008 we actually put aside numerous requests for specific times to try to accommodate their preferred window. Unfortunately us telling the customer this, apologizing numerous times, and even offering to call the customer with a 30 minute call ahead was not good enough. We were in no way rude to this customer and offered plenty of flexibility. It is unfortunate that this customer is upset and has given us a bad review, but we did try our best to accommodate them. This company has been in business for 25 + years and does not advertise, we are a small, family owned business and strictly word-of-mouth. We have been around for this long because of the way we treat our customers and the quality of the work we do. Again, I apologize to this customer for their bad experience and would hope that one incident since 2008 where we were unable to accommodate a window that they preferred will not stop them from using us again. Description of Work: the valve on our in spa (in ground) heater was broken. He replaced it and because of checking the unit out thoroughly found a broken thermostat which if left unfixed could have resulted in a major safety issue. I have used Dale's in the past and find them to be very professional and their prices reasonable.

Description of Work: No services were performed. I called to ask for a service tech to come out and run the gas lines into our new pool/spa heater. The company that I purchased the heater and controls had done everything short of piping the heater unit. I was told the price was over $400.......... I was told that they would come out, hook the gas line up and start the unit. I told them I already had someone to "start the unit" and it was thier responsibilty to make it work - not Dales Gas. I again restated that all I wanted was for someone to come out (a certified gas tech) and plumb one line approx. two feet long. Didn't matter. The female who answered the phone and who I was dealing with was not understanding. I have other names and descriptions of her, beleive you me. I have used Dales Gas many, many times in the past for annual services on a lanai gas grill and a gas fireplace. I have had them out to re-route gas lines that had been wrong since the house was built and I considered them a safety hazard. Each time, the utmost in professionalism. NEVER AGAIN. You would do well to find another company. I do not know what has happened to Dales Gas but do know I will NEVER call them again. That woman was just plain rude, uninformed and needs to find something more suitable for work. Can you tell I am p ?

Response from Dale's Gas Appliance Repair
In response to the review that was placed here by the Customer, he is correct in that he called to schedule a service call to have our technician come out to hook up a heater that he had another company install for him. He is incorrect in the fact that he was told that the price for the hookup of the gas to the heater was over $400, he was actually told that the price was $385. I do believe after listening to the recording of the phone conversation that the female that he spoke with was actually extremely understanding considering the way that she was treated by this customer. I would be curious to know what other descriptions or names for her that the Customer might have as she was actually very polite. As for the annual service that is done on the Customer's gas grill and fireplace, Dales Gas has never in the 35 years that we have been in business ever worked on either of these pieces of equipment or performed any type of "yearly service" on them as suggested by the Customer. My suggestion therefore for the Customer is that if there is a safety concern that he immediately contact the company that he ACTUALLY had out there to run this gas line and have them look at it to see what the safety hazard is and get it resolved that way.

The technician arrive and was very polite, he was taken around to the pool heater and explained what AmeriGas had found when they'd done their system check prior to filling the tank. He was given the information that the AmeriGas technician had found and ask to ensure that the system was ready to go when the gas tank was filled. The technician got right to work, was done in no time flat and came back to the door to infom us of what had been done. The one hang up that he found was that AmeriGas had disconnected and locked out the gas feed, so he could not test the flame, but he assured me that it was ready to go otherwise. I ask if there was anything else that needed to be done prior to the tank being filled and he said no. But if there were any issues after filling to just call up and they'd come back out to fix it, no additional service charge. I was left with the inpression that the system was prep'ed and ready to go once the tank was filled. When AmeriGas arrived they reattached the gas line and began filling the tank, after the system was presurized the tech attempted to light the pilot at which time he found that most of the safety circuit was inop, disconnected by corrosion, or parts failed due to age/misuse. 10 min of troubleshooting and the tech was able to locate each of the problems and explain what the situation was. Dales failed to troubleshot the complete system even though gas nor electrical connection was required to ohm out the safety circuit, it was simply not done. When this was brought to the attention of the Office Manager (via email) the response was that I could use them or not it did not bother her. It was my fault that they had not completed the job as I had been unable to give them all of the information that she felt I should have had, course that is why I attempted to get an expert. I will not use them again.
Description of Work: The service included replacement of the pilot assembly and other items as needed in preperation of filling the tank to be able to heat the pool for use in physical therapy.

Response from Dale's Gas Appliance Repair
In response to the Member review, I will only copy and paste the response that was sent to him in regards to his email. I am sure that this will speak for itself: From: Lacey Sharp [mailto:lacey*****.com] Sent: Monday, August 20, 2012 2:40 PM To: 'Member' Subject: RE: Service Invoice from Dale's Gas Appliance Repair, Inc. Member, In reference to the email that was sent below, our technician found that the gas tank was locked off by by Amerigas until the pilot was replaced. I am assuming that they somehow relayed this information to you ahead of time. If this information had been passed on to us we would have brought a portable tank so that we would be able to more thoroughly check through the heater. As it stands, we were not made aware ahead of time that there was no gas going to the unit. To verify this, I listened to our phone conversation from when the service call was originally made. The reason that the technician did not check through the rest of the heater is that although these simple checks are possible without gas going to the unit, it is not possible to test these parts to be sure that this is all that was needed until the gas was turned back on. We are not in the business of being “parts replacers”. In our business unfortunately, this is a double edge sword of sorts. We have customers that get upset when we replace parts in a heater and wonder how we know that they are bad when we are unable to fire the heater up, we also have customers that get upset when we are doing our best not to do “guess work” and wait until the heater is fully functional in order to test the unit thoroughly. When we repair a heater we want to make sure that the unit is fixed for more than a few days and although able to check through the heaters safety circuit without the gas, there are numerous components in the heater that are unable to be checked through without the gas being on. I’m sure the technician told you before he left that once the tank was turned back on, if you had any further issues we would be happy to come out and take care of them. We would not have charged another service call, you would have just been charged for the parts. This is the reason that we do this. If you would like for Amerigas to take care of the heater further, I have no problem with that. They are a great company and I have no issue with them. Our technician came out to your home and performed the service that was requested in the manner that we usually handle this particular situation and I have no problem with that either. Please let me know if there is any further assistance that I can give you. Thank You for your time. Lacey Sharp Office Manager Dale's Gas Appliance Repair, Inc. lacey@dalesgas.com To add to this, our company did not tell the Member that he could either use us or not. In his original email he stated that he was going to have Amerigas complete the repairs and I believe our response was that " If you would like for Amerigas to take care of the heater further, I have no problem with that. They are a great company and I have no issue with them. " We truly appreciate each and every one of our customers and are disappointed when there are some that are not satisfied with our service. We truly hope that customers using Angie's list will also look at the reviews of the customers that were pleased with our work and give us a chance.
