Cracker Style asured me that I would be getting a good quality cabin and they delivered inferior materials, and incorrect materials. The entire experience was frustrating, and ruined my trust in them. I recommend talking with different cabin owners and find out the log suppliers that they were happiest with, before going with a cabin package.
Description of Work: A school house model was chosen, and Cracker Style recommended a builder, Eric Escue, who wanted approx. $10,000.00 up front and Cracker Style approx. $40.000,00 up front. This was in March of 2008. Escue finally poured the slab in October, 2008, and within a month, the concrete company was filing a notice of lien to owner, because, Escue had not paid them. Escue, according to the neighbor, would only show up on Saturdays to do any work, because he knew that I usually showed up on Sundays to check on the progress. ( This information came from the woman next door ) I was offered cypress logs from Cracker Style, and I paid extra for the cypress, but instead, they delivered pine logs to the site.( No return of my money, however ). Escue was to have the roof finished by the end of the winter, but he and his construction trailer had disappeared from the site by the end of February, 2009. 2 Weeks later, still no roof and then spring came along, and still no Escue, I was forced to find and pay my own roofing contractor to install the roof that Escue was responsible for. All of a sudden, Daddy Escue showed up, claiming to be the license holder, and that he wanted to make things right. He spent alot of time running around like a rooster, flapping his wings around, spending my money on things that he was not responsible for ( i.e.,, septic systen, well and other items that was not to come out of his pocket, because I was responsible for these things, yet he was trying to make it appear that he was getting things done. However , he did not pay the plumber, electrician, or air conditioning installers, and I was forced to pay some additional monies to some of these tradesmen to end liens on my cabin He started by going back to the architect. He then told the architect to just send me the bill ! ( Over $1000.00, and it was not even necessary for the county to know about these minor changes. ( Daddy Escue said that it was importand for insurance purposes, should I ever have to file a clain ) ( I noticed this characteristic about both Escues seemed about the same ). When I was presented with a 50% deposit request to cover for some change orders ( which I had not been consulted about and he demanded the " All Trades Draw', when the house was no where near gettng an 'All Trades Draw" completed and having an approved inspectoin. Mr Escue huffed & told me that I could get my own drain field retention wall, and he left. An attorney got a little info from me and had the Escues were terminated as the contractor of record. I got a new contractor, who discovered that Cracker Style had not sold me the wood that I paid for, and they substituted wood of a different size. We asked Cracker Style for Cypress wood to make up for some of the missing wood.We paid Cracker Style, for it, but guess what ! We were given pine instead, again ! We were running short on money, as our $120,000.00 'turnkey' cabin was now at about $250,000.00 The pine wood that was delivered was not cut in time and alot of it, therefore has grey stains in the wood. The flooring looks as though a heavy roller had indented the boards as they had passed through some sort of milling machine. The second contractor disappeared on me and never called me back after March, 2010. and between myself and paying a local fellow $20.00 per hour, we finally had the Certificate of Occupancy on 12/23/2010. Cracker style also sent me a bill for an additional $2000.00 Plus for additional materials ordered by Escue early in 2010. Escue had his name on the permit of a remodeling job a few houses down the road. I often wonder if Cracker Style had me pay for material that was diverted to the other site.
