I forgot to put this review in. In redoing my house, Keith Harrod was one of the only contractors who really knew what he was doing. He quoted me a price. Did what he said he was going to do installing the electrical to my roof. He cleaned up and the only sign that he was ever there was my new electrical panel. Great service and A + rating. If I need any electrical work done in the future I start with Essex. Thanks again, the hot tub is great!

When speaking to Keith on the phone about my electricity issues I was in distress because of the reports I was receiving from friends and other electricity companies. Keith was able to calm me down by serving me based on my need and not trying to maximize how much money he was able to make from me. Keith showed up on time for the appointment. He completed the job within his predicted time and within his quote. He even did extra work to ensure that everything would be up to code. Afterwards, he coached me through options on resolving other electrical issues I was experiencing. Very happy I found Essex Electrical Service Inc.

Keith came out and showed up on time (to the minute). The work was completed within the estimated time frame, the price was the lowest I've seen, and he was extremely detailed in everything he did. I highly recommend them for any electrical work.

Keith was very responsive and prompt to my queries. He didn't make me feel bad for screwing up my initial attempt at installing it myself, he just went in there, no questions asked and did what needed to be done. I WILL use these guys again if I need them. 5 stars and highly recommended to anyone needing electrician work in the southwest Broward area. The job was done literally 2 hours after my initial email to him. He also showed my tenant how to operate the unit, which he didn't have to do. Thank you!!!

Keith arrived at the time scheduled and explained the details of the work involved. After the project was complete he emailed the insurance company and provided answers to all the questions they presented. He appeared to take great pride in his work.

Keith was very professional and skilled. He was pleasant to work with and very informative. We were very grateful when he installed an electrical outlet upon request without an additional charge. He hooked up our TV and refrigerator while the work was being done so we were very comfortable. The inspector came by today and told me his work was excellent. I will use him again to replace my outside electrical box too. I will recommend him to friends. He is a dog lover :) I would give him a 10 out of 10!

I would highly recommend Essex Electric for 200 amp service upgrades. My technician was like a surgeon. His work was impeccable. They showed up when scheduled and work h****** the days from morning til evening. It was a pleasant surprise to find a company that took such great pride in their work. The Electrical inspector passed the work in no time flat. JOB WELL DONE

I needed some electrical issues flagged by a home inspector addressed quickly during the closing process. Keith responded quickly to my inquiries and was able to quote the job based on photos and schedule the work within 2 days. Even though he had to cut away some shelving near the electrical panel and install new outlet boxes in the bathrooms (the GFI receptacles wouldn't fit the older outlet boxes), he stuck by his original quote and finished in one day. He tidied up his work areas and answered all my questions.

A neighbor dropped in to ask if I had a spare 20 amp circuit breaker to get him through the night. until he could buy a couple at the store when they opened the next day. I asked what brand he needed, and when he told me, I explained I had a Zinsco panel and wouldn't be able to help. He paused, then smiled ruefully and said to go online and Google "Zinsco circuit breakers." After fifteen minutes of searching I discovered article after article, as far back as forty years ago up thru current articles, dealing with a litany of serious problems with Zinsco breakers. In a nutshell, Zinsco breakers had a long history of failed breakers and related components, resulting in numerous fires and inoperative breakers. Poor breaker to bus bar problems, failure to react when overloaded or shorted. There were so many failures that had the same types of problems, over a period spanning decades, that insurance company inspectors began to disqualify those homes with Zinsco panels for policies until the panels were replaced. An anonymous call to my insurance company verified this information. And sooo....Off to Angie's List I went. There were dozens of highly rated companies and a small group of exemplary companies. I spent a couple of hours reading reviews, the company respones to many reviews, re-reading some reviews, trying to read between the lines when there were individual ratings that fell below "A". I noticed that the disclaimers on "Deals" were identical boilerplates, all exempting this, agreeing to do that, not being responsible for this making a condition for that.......Until I found one guy who apparently did something that nobody else would do as part of a full panel replacement. Keith at Essex Electrical Service said simply that any sheetrock repairs, made necessary by a panel replacement job, was included in the price. Apparently, any other company would leave this little, potential nightmare for the homeowner to deal with. Ok. Now I'm interested. What else has he got? Check his reviews, Guy's got 55 "A" ratings. No "B", "C", or "D." Wait a sec, ...what's this? Two "F" ratings? I check out those two, and it takes all of thirty seconds to read between the lines. I disqualify their meaningless comments, and move on to the money part Cut to the chase. $1,1100 is simply the lowest price for a 200 amp panel with room for 40 breakers. Nobody else comes close. I call Keith who turns out to be a no nonsense guy, answers all my questions, saves me close to $1,000 by telling me I do not need an upgrade in service from 150A to 200A, and I don't want special "bedroom breakers" retrofitted into a house built in 1978. We agree on an appointment for 1/27/15, 9AM. He called one day ahead to confirm, and showed up in a clean, fully equipped van at 9AM the following day. Brief introductions, shut the main, double safety check, and he's into the job. Keith is a self contained one man operation. With the experience of hundreds and hundreds of panel replacements under his belt he tackles the job with hands and eyes that have obviously racked up thousands of hours doing minor variations of the same theme. Get the old stuff out, note significant points, don't stop untll all that's left is a multicolor collection of spaghetti like wires. The old box and peripheral materials are out and removed. Measurements are taken, doule checked, cuts made in the sheetrock. Any supports, braces, positioning devices, are fabricated and secured. Prep the new box by removing knockouts, create new access holes in box as necessary. Examine existing wire for intact insulation, insure new panel is solidly in place, lined up with conduit carrying incoming supply wires, run wires into box, neatly, very neatly run individual wires to breakers. The perfect symmetry of incoming wire, free of twists and turns and any unsightly cramming into too small places, has a calming, almost Zen like effect when viewed. It may not improve electrical flow characteristics, but it definitely enhances the whole experience as it reflects the care with which a professional creates a signature piece of art, which will also, by the way, supply the power that enables your family to enjoy safety, security and microwave dinners. What more could you ask for? During the 6-7 hour installation I kept Keith company for most of the time. And even though I'm familiar with the process, I still feel like I learned a thing or two. He took time to show how builders cut corners by doing things like tapping wires together so they could use fewer breakers to do the same job. Nothing that wouldn't meet code but certainly would generate more heat. Keith's a bright guy with a broad range of general knowledge and it was a pleasure having him in my home. When the work was done Keith and I checked appliances, outlet locations and function and he noted locations on labels next to each breaker. By using a separate breaker for each pair of wires, my new box no has 36 breakers instead of the original stingy 27. All in all, Angie's List has done it again, providing an indispensable service to help find the best in the business.

We needed to make several upgrades to our rental triplex in Hallandale, the most important being the electrical system. We called Keith based on the other Angie's List reviews. He was able to come and provide an estimate within one day of our request. Keith gave us an estimate which included the permit fees and explained the process of working with the city inspectors. Time was an issue for us as we live out of state and we were staying at the property to arrange several upgrades and then go back home. Once we had returned home we were communicating through email, phone and texts. We relied on Keith to handle the application process for us. He also ironed out the issues with the city regarding getting our permit. Once we had secured our permit he had the job done within days. It looks great, and the clean up was excellent. He does very professional and clean work. Keith updated us every step of the way with all communication from the city and pictures of the work while it was being done. I would be happy to recommend Keith based on our experience. We are very happy with the result.

Keith came out right away to give an estimate. I later called him to set up a date. I needed to get the job done quickly to get a lower price on my homeowners insurance which was coming due in several weeks. Keith was very prompt and professional. He did an excellent job. When the home investigator( for the insurance company) came out to inspect the job he said it was one of the best jobs he had seen. There were also no problems when the city permit department came out to inspect. Keith also added two outlets for me at no extra charge. I was showing the job to my neighbor and she was quite impressed that Keith had labeled the breakers for me. I was very happy with Keith's work and will use him again.

Excellent. I chose this contractor as his ad had FPL Meter Box in it. Very Professional. The lights used to flicker. I chose to beleive the house was haunted rather than fix anything for a long time. Essex showed up at my house at the exact time specified. I was able to go to work. Essex texted me the picture of the damage, fixed it , and texted me the picture of the brand new box. Left behind the the old parts for me to inspect. Easy peasy.

Keith arrived right when expected and finished total job much earlier than expected. Very knowledgeable and happy to explain all to the owner.Did painting of outside wall and patching wall inside where needed.

Our pool pump/motor stopped working but the breaker didn't trip so I wasn't sure what the problem could be. I found Keith and his company Essex Electrical Services through Angie's List and set up the appointment for the next day. Keith showed up on time, very professional and found the problem in our electrical panel. Two of the breakers were pushing each other out of making a full contact. He quickly fixed the problem making sure they were wired tightly and making full contact. He then checked all the other breakers since he was there. A quick fix at a reasonable price and he was very professional.

I was experiencing problems with the fuse box for the automatic pool cleaner and wanted it replaced with a breaaker. Keith answered the phone himself and came to estimate the job that same day. He explained that the fuse boxes for the pool cleaner and the sprinkler system and the main breaker panel were all improperly wired, not to code and needed to be replaced. I thought Keith's estimate was reasonable based upon estimates I had received for part of the work many years earlier. Keith started the replacement work on schedule --and arrived earlier than promised that morning. Keith worked continually thorughout the day until the entire job was finished. I was happily surprised to find the work included repair and repainting of the wall where the old panel and fuse boxes had been removed. When he was working on the breaker panel replacement, I asked Keith if he had time to replace 2 small light fixtures that day. Keith did that additional work without charge. Keith is extremely responsive, knowledgeable and hard working, and truely an expert in his field.

It went excellent. Keith arrived on time and was very professional. While the work was being completed Keith took the time to run a temporary power source for my laptop and internet components so I could continue working while the repairs were being conducted. On Keith's first visit I forgot to tell him about an item on the inspection report that needed to be repaired and he came out the same day and fixed the item for me free of charge! The home inspector returned and reported that Keith's work was "Excellent".

Everything went very smoothly from start to finish. Keith showed up on time, was extremely organized and finished the job earlier than estimated. He even gave me a quote from my 4-point inspection report (he didn't need to come physically just to quote), and the price did not change a penny after he completed the work. I do property management for a living and deal with contractors daily. Keith was on time, organized, finished early, and stuck with his quote to the penny. Usually you'll get 1 or 2 of those points but with Keith you'll get them all, a true professional.

Keith ( owner of Essex Electric) is a straight shooter. He gets to the point and is "no-nonsense". We love that about this contractor. He does exactly what he says he is going to do. It's very rare that people say what they mean. I wrote asking for a quote online. It was Sunday evening, and I didn't want to bother him during non-business hours, but I wanted the request to be there for Monday morning. He responded to me immediately. I didn't expect that during non business hours. He said he could come by to take a look at the problem Monday afternoon after he finished a job he had scheduled. I sent him a photo of the box, and he told me it was a Zinsco breaker panel. Insurance companies don't cover this anymore. He said I could look it up online and see for myself. It's a fire hazard. I did look it up, and everything he said to me was correct. It is a very dangerous and obsolete panel. We knew we needed a new electrical box because it was old, and we had been told that before when we had other work done. So this wasn't exactly a surprise, but we had no idea how bad it was. He arrived exactly at the time he said he would. He brought tools to read the electrical output on what was going on in the panel. He told us that he could be back at 9 am to do the upgrade on the electrical panel. We asked him how much it would cost. He quoted us the price he has advertised on Angie's list for this exact job. We were surprised because we thought somehow he would come up with other problems that would cost more money. He didn't. We had been without lights for a week already before we called Keith because we had called a different contractor for a bid. This other contractor came without tools and didn't measure anything on our panel. He told us that our wires had probably burned out in the wall, and he was going to have to rewire those lights. We had to wait 2 days for that contractor to come at all, and then it was going to take 4 more days (over the weekend) before he could fix it. He was telling us we needed a lot of rewiring, and it was a very expensive bid. We decided to get another quote from Keith ( Essex Electric) because we just didn't feel good about spending that much money without at least a second bid. We were shocked at how honest Keith was when he came. He got our lights working and gave us a quote in a 10 min time span. No fooling around. Just straight to the point. I asked him if we needed rewiring. He said "what for"? The new panel should fix the problems. (Some of our breakers had more than one item on them because there wasn't room). Keith won us over in 10 min. We knew we had found the right guy! Keith arrived right on time in the morning. He has a pleasant disposition, and he didn't do anything that was upsetting in any way. He cleaned up after the job was over. He didn't make a mess of our wall, and the little he had to spackle, he did a nice job with. We can't even tell he was here ( except for the nice new panel)! He fixed and repaired everything. The new panel looks great. It's clean looking, and Keith labeled everything on the panel, and even has nice writing. After he was finished, he told us if we had any problems to call him, and he would be right back to take care of it. We couldn't be happier with the service we received from Keith. Everything is working better than before. It is a breath of fresh air to have this kind of experience with a contractor. We have no hesitation at all recommending him. If we could give him triple A's, we would.

The job was scheduled quickly and it was done within 5.5 hours. Everything works as expected.

Keith of Essex electric to begin with was on time went to work promptly was very organized . the job was done efficiently in the time frame he set., He was polite professional and the job was well done. I would call him in the future without hesitation . JOB description replacing 2 old fuse boxes . Relabeling fuses making sure all were working correctly ,sealing around the fuse box door . Fixing a 3 way light , and installing a light switch for a ceiling light.

Great experience. Keith answered the phone personally, said he could be here in 90 minutes (I was without power and it was getting warm). He showed up 45 minutes earlier than I expected, diagnosed the problem, had the part in his truck and 20 minutes later my house was cool again.
