I first called Tolliver Powder Coating to inquire if they could apply the powder coating process to furniture hardware. I had done some research and been told that the tarnished brass furniture hardware was pot metal, not solid brass. I considered polished chrome plating of the chippendale style bail pulls however the cost for plating was comparable to buying new hardware. Wayne was my first contact person at Tolliver. He suggested I email a photo or two of the hardware and he would followup with a quote. The sixteen pieces, a combination of two sizes, came off a maple stained dresser that is probably thirty years old or more. I was giving the dresser a new look, having it refinished with a high gloss lacquer by a furniture restoration service in Boyton Beach. The refinisher would do the hardware in the same white lacquer but I wanted the hardware to have a contrast against the white. I was also concerned that the intricate cut outs in the pattern of the pulls would lose their detail/definition with the applied lacquer paint. The Tolliver quote provided a per piece cost that was very reasonable so I took the hardware into the shop. Wayne explained the process as this was a first experience for me. He had me choose a paint color either from a fan deck or from the chip samples he had on display. I selected a grey, a color paint he had in stock. Choosing a stock color kept the material cost down. A week later I was called and told my order was ready. Now here's where their professionalism and excellent customer service really came into play. I noticed upon inspection that on eleven of the sixteen bail pulls I could see a tiny imperfection in the applied paint where the pulls had been hung by a hook or something during the processing. Wayne explained how that occurred and he would have the pulls redone within the week. I was pleased with the finished hardware and so delighted with the resulting effect on my dresser drawers. They are perfect! My next project was to have two white patio accent tables powder coated to a different color. I took the glass tops off before I took the tables in. Again I choose a stock color. A week later I picked up and my tables looked "new". I was delighted with the smoothness of the applied glossy painted finish. For a business that is primarily focused on industrial and commercial projects I must say that Wayne and Eric certainly provided me, a homeowner with one challenging hardware project and one typical outdoor furniture painting project, with the very best of service and quality of work. I sincerely thank them. Diane Smith 05/01014
