Magic Jack

Since purchasing 4 years ago, their equipment and service has been adequate and as advertised until now. Recently they have been instituting charges for services provided previously for free; specifically 911 and long distance calls to certain area codes. Using my magicjack, I tried calling Oregon area code 541 today and received a message that I must pay for the call using their prepaid minutes. This is a change in service, as I have called these numbers previously without charge. I attempted to contact customer service via their live chat, was bumped up a level after explaining my problem. The customer service chatter, Faye, referred me to the TOS (4) repeatedly, but would not answer why the service had changed. After a lengthy and mutually unsatisfactory exchange, she referred to the TOS (13 Modification) and disconnected me. If I cannot place calls within Oregon without charge, I will change services.

You can order it online. They are horrible and their customer service is difficult. I have been using them for a year. I use it on a daily basis. I work at a hospital and when I call from there it won?t go through. I try to call home and it routes it as a local call when it is supposed to be an outstation call and that?s my problem. I can?t get customer support to help and it is just horrible. There is one device you can connect directly to your computer and there is one that you connect to your router. When you have your phone connected to that, you can talk through your computer. I am supposed to call and receive toll free but it doesn?t work. It is very reasonable if it works. I paid about $40-60 for the device and for 5 years of service it is $100. It is really cheap if it worked correctly. I have an issue with only one number and I am not able to call home but otherwise it is great. UPDATE: I found a way around the problems with them routing calls... I ported a google voice number and now I use that via the MJ. The service is definitely worth the cost if you are at least slightly tech savvy and you have a reliable internet provider.

I've been having issues of not being able to connect to local working phone numbers (3 as of today). MJPLUS doesn't have a working help number although there's a number which goes to indefinite hold. MJ has no email address listed. I've spent several hours on the computer with MJ's Live Chat Help with no success at all! They have trouble with English and try to wear you down by asking the same questions over and over again. MJ sends email of any voicemails you get and you can't have MJ turn off this nuisance. Unless you don't mind partial/unreliable service and don't mind not being able to talk to a help tech, MagicJack and MagicJack PLUS are NOT for you!

I suggest someone using Magic Jack use broadband. The faster your connection, the better the quality. We haven't had any problems with it. It's pretty simple.
