Description of Work: I have lived in this house for 11 months, and the person before me did not do much maintenance, and although my air conditioning unit was working great, I thought I should buy a service contract, and have the unit serviced, so I called, and spoke to Jason, and a technician was sent over the next morning. However, when I awoke the next morning, the a/c was NOT working! Good thing I called to buy a service contract! (This is called SERENDIPITY!) The technician, who is wonderful (Victor), found that one of the capacitors in the unit, inside the house, was bad, so he replaced that, and the unit was working beautifully, but stopped working around 2:00 a.m.! I called Gulfstream at 2:00 a.m., and left a message, and asked if someone could come back today. Victor called me at 7:30 this morning, and was here before 8:00. Just like the day before, the unit had frozen up, and Victor had told me that replacing the capacitor gave the unit a 50/50 chance of continuing to work, if it was NOT the motor itself. So today it was determined that the motor should be replaced; it was also making a terrible banging noise, and the unit, itself, is about 16 or so years old. I was given credit for the price of the capacitor that was installed yesterday. -- Jason had to order the motor because he did not have it in stock, (he obtained it for me within two hours) and Victor returned this afternoon, and installed the new motor. They worked around an appointment that I had to keep. This company is very responsive and considerate. Victor was just wonderful, and I appreciate so much that this was done for me as quickly as possible. I also purchased a service contract. I am so glad that I found this company. Thank you so much, Jason and Victor! I think that this company is a treasure. These people are well aware that it is stressful to deal with a non-working a/c, especially in Florida, and they do not make you keep calling them, or keep trying to track them down. They attend to the problem in a very timely manner, and I think that this is not necessarily the norm in business. I think that they are absolutely terrific, and I only have a very short relationship with them...but I wouldn't call anyone else after the wonderful experience that I had with them these past two days.

+ -1 moreThis vendor is rare, a throwback to the Ozzie and Harriet days when contractors do what they say they're going to do and do on time. Gulfstream Cooling under promises and over delivers. I'm a perfectionist. It's a family owned business and both Jason and his brother Steven are meticulous, as are their employees. Everyone is accomplished, professional, polite and a pleasure to have around. I've been an Angie's List customer since Angie started it but I didn't think to add Florida where I now have a home. I phoned several A/C contractors obtained from online manufacturers authorized dealer lists and, after speaking with a few was confused and uncomfortable. Purchasing an A/C unit is a big decision. It's an investment with so many moving parts that you must have 100% trust in the company you've chosen. I hope to convey that trust to you with my review about this company. I know now the importance of writing a review and even more critical, writing and reading the amount of honors a company has been awarded. This company has just about as many, if not much more reviews than any other Heating/A/C company out there but has been elected for many, many more honors which is the golden standard. Very frustrated, I called my son (a high end contractor in NYC) for help. He phoned his preferred A/C vendor and they recommended Gulfstream. Jason was out within the hour, as promised with most of my unit requirements already in-hand. He knew the internal square footage, the direction the house faced and the fact that I share a wall with my next door neighbor. He was clever and researched basic public information prior to his visit and needed less of my time. Every rebate was thoroughly researched by their company and deducted from my invoice resulting in a better unit for less money. I'm just a really happy customer writing from a very cool, comfortable home. Thank you Alex for helping your Mom!

+ -1 moreTHE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM I HAD IN OUR HOUSE WAS 17 YEAR OLD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED GULFSTREAM COOL AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO MEET WITH JASON. HE ANSWERED ALL THE QUESTIONS I HAD. JASON WAS VERY COURTEOUS AND PROFESSIONAL. WE SET A DATE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE. JASON CALLED AND CONFIRMED THE DATE AND CAME WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD. JASON AND HIS BROTHER, STEVEN, AND ANOTHER WORKER WORKED ON REPLACING THE SYSTEM. WHEN THE JOB WAS FINISHED, A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS OCCURRED. NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS WERE RELATED TO THE INSTALLATION. PART OF THE PROBLEMS WERE THAT THE WATER PAN OF THE NEW AIR CONDITIONER HAD A CRACK WHICH CAUSED A LEAK. JASON AND STEVEN GOT THE SYSTEM WORKING SO WE WOULD NOT BE WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING DURING THE HOT NIGHT. JASON TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY AND STEVE CAME THE FIRST THING THE NEXT MORNING AND REPLACED THE LEAKY WATER PAN WITH A NEW ONE. JASON REARRANGED HIS SCHEDULE SO MY SYSTEM WOULD BE WORKING AS IT SHOULD. I UNEQUIVICALY WOULD RECOMMEND GULFSTREAM COOL HIGHLY. AS I TOLD JASON, HE WOULD BE MY AIR CONDITIONING MAN FOR MAINTENANCE AND ANY PROBLEMS I MIGHT HAVE IN THE FUTURE.

The Angies List special they ran for $69 was a great deal and I absolutely believe that this should be done every year, especially in Florida.
Description of Work: Gulfstream kept in constant contact with me from the time I suggested appointment times, to arrival. They were thorough, punctual and professional throughout the process. I would absolutely use Gulfstream to handle my cooling needs in the future.

+ -1 moreUPDATE - for service performed on 8/30/15; I purchased the AC tune-up special, which was scheduled in a timely manner. The tech was the same gentleman who came out the year before. He was very professional, effective, ensured all of his work areas were clean, showed up on time and was very knowledgable. Gulfstream has become the company I rely on for all my AC needs.
Description of Work: I purchased the $69 special after I was unable to reach my normal AC guy. Gulfstream was quick to schedule the appointment within a couple of days, which was great since we are entering the hot/sticky time of year. The technician informed me I had a leak in my evaporator coils and I would need to replace the two year old part. I contacted my normal AC guy after Gulfstream's visit, because I was concerned that they might be taking advantage of a new customer. However, he confirmed the leaks and advised the part was covered under warranty but the labor wasn't. He's taking $100 off (what a peach) for the freon that had to be replaced by Gulfstream but it will still cost me more than it should. After the evaporator replacement, he will no longer be my go to AC guy; Gulfstream will be. Through an exchange of emails, Gulfstream even provided me with some important information regarding required steps my AC guy should take during the evaporator replacement. The additional cost incurred was for three pounds of freon. If this were one of those beware of rip off company TV shows, Gulfstream would be the hero in this episode. Companywide, all Gulfstream personnel have been very professional, thorough, helpful, responsive and most importantly, trustworthy!!!

+ -1 moreVictor (the technician) called me about 20 minutes before he arrived to let me know he was on his way. This gave me time to situate my dogs for his work. He is one of the most professional people I have ever met and I have been in the business world for 50 years. I could tell he did a good job by his attitude. He was passionate about his work and forthcoming with information that is valuable to me. He didn't treat me like "a girl". That may sound strange, but so many men have the pre-conceived notion that a woman cannot understand the ins and outs of mechanical things and talk down to us. If all the people who work for Gulfstream are anything like Victor, I would recommend them highly. Nothing shows of the integrity of a company more than the people who represent them in the field.

+ -1 moreWe bought the $29 service call deal because we had a leak, and we weren't sure why. Once he got here of course, he figured out we just really needed a cleaning. He did a very thorough job of cleaning our very nasty system. It costed another $69 on top of the $30 we'd already paid for since they gave us the Angie's List special. Apparently they still charge a service charge when they do a cleaning, so I guess even if we would have gotten the cleaning deal in the first place, we'd still have to pay a service call charge, which I thought was a little weird, but the price was still not outrageous, and he did a great job. The A/C works much better, and no more leak!

+ -1 moreThis is the first time I have used Gulfstream. I found them on Angie's list and am very satisfied. The entire transaction was very professional and easy. I made the appointment by phone and it went very smoothly. They were every accommodating to what was convenient for me. Aribel was very punctual as well as pleasant and thorough. My air handler is in the attic so it is a little bit of a pain but Aribel said it was no problem for him. After checking everything and cleaning the lines, he said the system looked fine, was operating well and that there was nothing to worry about. In the past, I have had HVAC techs from other companies try to sell me things (including annual service agreements), warn me of impending doom and generally try to up-sell everything. It was very nice to deal with a technician who didn't do any of these things. He is honest, professional and cleaned up well. I am sure that Gulfstream ownership realizes what a great employee they have. I have already recommended Gulfstream to a few friends and I will definitely be using them for all of my HVAC needs.

The first guy told us that it would cost us $225 to do a "leak check" to see if an AC coil was leaking, and then it would cost close to $1000 to fix a leak if they found it. They recommended replacement of the whole AC unit and air handler. Our Gulfstream tech found the leak within minutes and fixed it for $550. He was straight forward with us that it was an old unit and that a leak could spring up next week and that our unit was nearing the end of its life. But bottom line is that they found the leak and gave us options that we didn't get from the first guy.

+ -1 morePlaced the call the evening the 7th. Tech called immediately to determine if our unit was still working and asked some questions to help avoid us having a late evening repair. The following morning (first thing) they called and scheduled the service. They siad they would be here between 4 and 5 and they were, I have used them before and simply can't say enough about their honesty and integrity.
Description of Work: Our AC Unit was leaking. They diagnosed the problem as being only minor with blocked coils. Cost was essentially the cost of a tune up which by the way there is a coupon on Angies List for that.

+ -1 moreI initially just signed up for the tune-up special offered on Angie's List. However, my AC began to stop cooling effectively, so I asked Gulfstream to expedite service, which they did. They showed up on time as scheduled, tuned-up (cleaned-up) my AC unit and added coolant (an additional charge), but that was known up front. Serviceman spent approximately 1 hr on premises and AC is now working again normally.

+ -1 moreWhen I purchased the Angie's List coupon, I received a call the next morning to schedule. I was given the first time of the morning. That day, the tech, whose name was Anibal, first gave me a courtesy call and said he'd be there soon. He was good to his word, arriving with a cheerful smile. He worked neatly, thoroughly and efficiently, and even graciously put up with my nosy dog who wanted to be on his heels the whole time. He cleaned up when he was done, so that you'd never know anyone was here. I asked, and he told me about a maintenance agreement, and the price was discounted for today's work. With it, Gulfstream covers all work and parts at 15% off. So I signed up. It's my experience with A/C companies that the real test comes when something goes wrong. Some talk a good game, and do the regular service satisfactorily, but when you end up with an emergency, you end up melting in your home until it's convenient for them (not you) to come. Although I can't say I've observed Gulfstream in this situation, if today is any indication, they'll be responsive and punctual. Will see how it goes and update about their service in the event that we have a problem. So far, A+. Thanks, Gulfstream! Updated 5/14/2014: Anibal returned today to replace a U/V sanitizing bulb in our system. Again, he called before he came to let me know he was on his way, arrived during the 2 hour appointment window, and worked neatly. In fact, Jason in the office didn't know if Anibal was able to contact me, so he called to let me know, as well. Very proactive! The price was reasonable. Anibal is friendly and knowledgeable, inspiring confidence in his customers. One more thumbs-up for these guys!

Everything went like clock work; getting an estimate, acquiring the necessary permit from the town, removing the old system, coordinating the cleaning of the duct work, installing the new system, scheduling the town inspection.
