Owner's primarry work experience is working for a "production" homebuilder in new construction. This is different from remodeling work and repair work, which is a different skill set. He installed 2 fans that we provided for $50 each, took less than an hour, So he is making over $100 / hour on simple fan installation.Then installed two surge supressors, originally told me the cost was $200 each but when he did the work, he raised the price to $250 each. This is a very simple installation and only took him about 20 minutes each, so I looked up the cost of the units he installed, and I can buy them for $120 each retail price. His cost is likey to be less. I asked for his receipt on what he paid for the units, and he did not provide it. I asked for the product literature on the units he installed, and he did not provide it. So basically he charged $500 for work that took him an hour and $200 in parts. So he made $300 labor charge for an hour of easy work. He then ran some cable in my attic and hooked it up to an antenna. Charged me $100 for 1 hr work, no parts. After he left, I looked at antenna instructions and they said a grounding block should be installed to ground the cable. As an electrician, he should know that. I picked up the grounding block and it took him about 2 weeks on the call back, and when he did it, he installed the block out in the weather when it would have been just as easy to install under the eave, he did not shorten the cable, instead wrapping it around the pole a bunch of times, and he used an undersized wire to ground it. When I complained, he offered to come back out but he already demonstrated he did not know how to install it and then did it in a sloppy manner. The 3rd time is not a charm, and I will not have him back on my property for any reason. In summary, he has marginal job skills and WAY over-charges. With half of the electricians in Palm Beach County out of work and making no money, you can do A LOT better than this guy.
