.Ned arrived after calling us and telling us his estimated arrival, which was at the time he said. He was efficient, knowledgeable and prepared. He examined the piano to see what work was needed and broke down an estimate of the things he could do starting from the most important. The increase in the quote over the phone was due to the specific things the piano needed. His work was outstanding, and he told us more about our piano than we ever knew before. We hadn't had the piano tuned in years so there was quite a bit to be done, and it sounds great now. We highly recommend Quality Piano Tuning.
Description of Work: Ned tuned and repaired our 60 year old piano. It needed a few keys realigned and it needed to be voiced as well as tuned. It was completed in the time he estimated and for the price he quoted before he began the work. It was quality work.

Piano had not been tuned in over two years. Their cost for a "catch up" tuning was lower than others I talked to. Showed up on time, did a nice job, and was pleasant to deal with. I then inadvertently paid him twice (my son paid him while he was here, and I mailed him a check). He quickly returned the duplicate payment. I will use him regularly from here forward

I cannot recommend Ned enough. We have had many piano tuners and he was by far the best. We will definitely be asking him to return in 6 months. He arrived exactly on time and was very pleasant and professional. He told me up front what the cost would be and then when he noticed one of our A keys had a problem with the hammer flange. He clearly explained the options and actually recommended the FREE option first (which was to lubricate it and try it out. So far, so good.) He explained that the free fix could last anywhere from a couple of weeks to two years, and then if it was necessary, he could repin it, and he gave an estimate that was very reasonable. You will not be disappointed if you hire this professional piano tuner. He even cleaned the keys so the piano not only sounds beautiful, but it looks great too!

Ned was excellent! He was able to come out the day we called and provide tuning and repair services. Ned was courteous, prompt and thorough in his work. He performed a complete assessment and provided recommendations for future services if we wanted to enhance the sound quality of our piano or restore our antique piano to closer to its original condition. He provided a brief history on our piano too, which was helpful and informative. Overall, Ned provided excellent service and I would recommend him. We will definitely be using Ned's services again.
Description of Work: Ned performed an enhanced tuning to raise the pitch 15-40 to A-440. He also glued a loose G5 key covering and realigned 30 keys displaced during a moved. He made an overall assessment of the piano's condition as well and provided recommendations for future enhancements.

Ned is a gem. He called to remind me of our annual appointment to tune my grand piano. I scheduled the appointment and then the night prior to the appointment he left me a reminder message that he would be arriving at the appointed time to tune the piano. The piano tuning took less than 1 hour and I will schedule piano tuning annually with Ned. My son is the pianist in my family and he is off to Cal. tomorrow (go Bears!!!). The piano will not be played until my son returns for winter break but I know how important it is to have it tuned annually regardless of how much it is played. Lastly, I need to compliment Ned for his promptness and professionalism.
Description of Work: Ned tuned my grand piano in less than 45 minutes. Last year he spent several days due to the fact that the piano had not been tuned for almost 8 years.

Ned was prompt, explained in detail what he was proposing to do and the effect as well as an overall recommendation of what steps he would propose taking. Very kind in explaining what he was doing and the operation of the piano. I would never hesitate to recommend him for any professional or personal instrument tuning and repair.

Ned arrived right on time, and worked meticulously and very professionally. We used Ned last year to tune our piano after many years of neglect. At that time he worked to get it into excellent condition, so that this year's tune-up went very smoothly. The sticky key didn't occur until after he had wrapped up the tuning process, but he spent some extra time with us (and didn't charge us) to trace down the slight adjustment in the mechanism needed to solve the problem. We have been very happy with Ned's work and will continue to use his company to keep our piano tuned.
Description of Work: Annual tuning and checkup. Several front key bushings were eased to prevent keys sticking next winter. Adjusted mechanisms for a sticky key and a squeaky pedal operation.

Ned Klein did it all. It wasn't cheap, but given the extensive nature of the repairs, I didn't find the price outrageous. Every act was fully explained and demonstrated. When options were available Ned laid them out carefully and fully. He answered my questions. When we agreed upon what needed to be done, he did it. Several hours later, when he was through, he thoroughly demonstrated what he had done. I couldn't have asked for a more conscientious repair. Do I wish he would have done it all for 20 bucks? Sure, but he is a professional and a technician. I pay more, on an hourly basis, for plumbing repairs. Now I have a fully functioning and lovely piano. Every time an individual plays it, I can recall my mother playing. That makes it worth the price to me.
Description of Work: I inhereited a piano. It had not been tuned or repaired for many years. It had been stored and moved. It was in need of tuning and repair. Keys didn't work. The sound was not correct. It was not playable.

My much loved family heirloom upright piano was moved 5 years ago and has been in storage for another 5 years and then finally just made the move via truck from Canada. I was intent on getting it back up to standard. Ned Klein was for sure the man to call. So friendly and helpful and interested from the first phonecall, he arrived and spent the first 10 minutes getting to know the instrument and drafting a step-by-step proposal for me on the work that needed to be done. This was so helpful, to lay out exactly what was needed so I could decide on what i wanted to do, how much I could spend. He took the time to show me the inside workings of my piano and walk me through the process and even show me some of the craftmanship and detailing. This is a man who knows his craft! After we decided to do ALL that he proposed he set to work in a tidy, thoughtful and professional way. He even looked up the serial number for me and I now know my piano is from 1922 and was made by a company in Montreal (Bell) even though the piano was still inscribed Mendellsohn, Toronto. I had lengthy conversations with my parents that night about having our upright all tuned up and they reminisced about my great-grandparents and great-aunts and uncles playing that piano! I even found out my Great Uncle was trying to come on the Titanic! But I digress! HA!! Needless to say Mr Klein was the real deal. He even played White Christmas for my 3 year old son and I before he left. The piano sounds bright and clean and it plays great! I will for sure call Quality Piano Tuning for my next tuning. Thanks Ned!

My 83 year old father has happily come to live with my family and we were glad to have the space for him to bring his piano along too. He has been playing his out of tune piano for so long, he no longer can hear the difference. I wasn't sure who to call to have it tuned and repairs it might need... so I went to Angei's list and found Quality Piano Tuning. Ned was fabulous! He was professional, punctual, courteous, tidy... and very knowledgeable! I like how Ned writes his quotes as a "list" in order of priority starting with what "must be done first" and ending with "things for the future". After discussing what would be done this session, Ned got straight to work. After a while, I checked in with him to see how it was going and I was drawn in with what he was working on. I had never seen the keyboard out of its cabinet before and was fascinated with all the components. Ned stopped what he was doing, was very willing to share his knowledge and kindly gave me a mini lesson on the working mechanics of a piano right there on the spot. :) I could tell that Ned loves what he does.... and judging by the new, beautiful sound from our piano, Ned does his job well! Both my father and my 13 year old son (the piano players in the family), could hear and the feel the difference with the first note. I would highly recommend Quality Piano Tuning and will be calling Ned when it is time to have the piano tuned again.

We have a very old piano (I now know it is from1899) and didn't know if it was worth keeping or would require too much work as I had been warned by friends. I found Quality Piano Tuning on Angie's List and called for a general idea of what might be involved. I liked the way Ned said he worked in a progressive way--what would give the most improvement for $ spent, and what progressive options there were for extent of benefit--a series of priorities. It was exactly what I wanted though didn't know how to ask. He came out and looked at the piano and did some initial testing. He told me the piano was from the old school of craftsmen-made pianos that were very well built and could hold the tunings and action regulation very well. As he worked, I'd ask questions and he was eager to share his knowledge about my piano, his experience in working with pianos, and the joy of getting them to properly function. I wanted the piano tuned so I could restart playing again purely for my own enjoyment. The tuning did exactly that. And if I get better and want to go the next step with slight adjustments to the action or a new damper, or for the next tuning, I would certainly call Quality Piano Tuning again. While the piano sounds great, he honestly told me it would not be worth much on the open market. I couldn't be more pleased with the good work, the great value, the lovely sharing of the spirit of music.

Ned arrived on time and worked very professionally. He was pleasant to talk with and carefully explained the procedures he thought would be appropriate for how we planned to use the piano. He worked cleanly and diligently and in a few hours had our piano sounding great! We are extremely pleased with his work and with his encouragement to bring the experience of making beautiful music back into our lives again!
Description of Work: Ned did an excellent job bringing our 40-year-old Story & Clark console piano back into tune. It had not been tuned since we moved 15 years ago. Ned assessed the overall condition of the piano, especially the frame and action parts, and noted that it was in great shape and should last many more decades with proper care. He explained the multiple-pass tuning process that was required for pianos so long out of adjustment. and proceeded over the next few hours to get it sounding great. He used some great state-of-the-art tools to get the notes spot-on. He also fixed a sticky key and cleaned all the keys and vacuumed the dust out of the interior.

Ned is a dream of a piano tuner. He took apart the piano included my 8th old son in the process and taught us about the craftsmanship that goes into a piano. The nature of the wood and how certain types of wood transmit sound differently. Are you sleeping yet? I find this conversation infinitely fascinating and Ned is passionate, well trained technician. It's just not that often that I find people who are dedicated and enthusiastic. Oh, and he finished all of this is just over an hour. It was a great experience and afterwords, if just for a minute my son practiced the piano with a renewed zeal and appreciation and then Christmas came and the legos became more interesting that the piano. Final thought? Appreciation for instruments and homemade music is dwindling and Ned is a keeper of the flame, he was also punctual and efficient. I will call him again in 6 months.
Description of Work: It had been a few years since I had my piano tuned and the strings were in some case 25cents out of pitch, so we had to do the more expensive "hybrid tuning".

I had Ned evaluate and tune a 1971 Yamaha vertical piano which I recently had moved from San Diego to Los Angeles. The Yamaha was originally purchased new by my parents, but had not been played or tuned in over twenty years. Ned thoroughly examined the piano and provided a detailed evaluation of its condition and quality. This included an enlightening discussion of the piano?s most critical components and the types of problems which can arise with age and use. By the end of Ned?s evaluation, I had a much better understanding of the difference between minor problems which are simple and economic to repair versus the truly serious problems which would require rebuilding a piano. Fortunately, my piano had no major issues and required no adjustments or repairs other than the retuning. Ned then proceeded with the initial tuning and the subsequent fine tuning that he had previously told me would be necessary to bring my piano back into proper pitch. He was generous in answering all of my questions, clearly explained why the initial retuning of my piano needed to be a two-step process, demonstrated the process utilizing his state-of-the-art electronic instruments, and explained why regular tuning the piano at six-month intervals is necessary. Ned is an excellent musician and treated me to a beautiful performance of Gershwin?s ?Our Love Is Here To Stay? both before and after the tuning, which allowed me to fully appreciate the incredible improvement in sound which resulted from his work. Ned has impeccable credentials, impressive experience, and outstanding technical skills. He is very friendly, generous in sharing his knowledge and a pleasure to have around. I recommend him wholeheartedly. If you are looking for a highly-skilled, reasonably-priced, dedicated and experienced piano technician, you can?t make a better choice than Ned!

This was our piano's first tuning since we moved to Los Angeles from another city, and I'm delighted that we found Ned Klein. He was extremely thorough, pleasant, and knowledgeable, both about pianos in general and about our particular make and model (a Yamaha upright). This was a completely routine tuning except that in advance I'd identified a sticky key; Ned diagnosed the problem as something very minor, which added just $10 to the very fair $95 basic tuning price. He had quoted his prices on the phone (identical to those on his website) in advance and did a thorough assessment of the piano at the beginning of his visit, confirming again before proceeding that the work would fall under the basic price. He worked for a full hour and the piano sounds in perfect pitch. In sum, this was a completely favorable experience and I'll absolutely make Quality Piano Tuning our regular tuner.

Ned showed up on time and assessed the piano (baby grand). I told him what problems it was having and he gave me a itemized list of what needed to be done to fix all the problems. It needed to be tuned twice because it had been 10 years since it had been tuned. It also traveled a long distance. He was happy to explain everything he was doing and show me all the parts and what he was replacing and why. Overall everything went well.

This was a stellar experience from initial contact to completion. Be sure to check out Ned's website and you'll know why he is so good at what he does. No detail went unnoticed. He dusted the interior of the piano, offered to remove his shoes when entering the house and left everything neat and tidy. You won't be sorry if you hire Ned to care for your piano.
Description of Work: My Kawai GS-30 baby grand piano had not been tuned in over 4 years. When Ned arrived he told me he would look the piano over and let me know what his recommendations were. He added that he would not do anything until he had explained those recommendations and quoted me a price. After his assessment he told me that the piano was still in tune within tolerances acceptable for home use. A few keys were not playing correctly and he actually showed me why that was so. He gave me recommendations on what he could do to bring the piano up to top notch performance. I requested that he go ahead and tune the piano ($95) and do the other work that he had noted would maximize the piano's tone and sensitivity ($120). He pulled the board to accomplish these adjustments so I felt his prices were very fair. He was here for approximately 2 hours.
