Window Decor and Designs

Description of Work: Decor & Designs installed roman shades at my home in either February or March of 2012. Over the course of 2012 so many clips broke off the shades, leaving them sagging and hanging unevenly across a 30-foot-wide expanse of window, and requiring numerous visits back to my house by D&D to replace the clips, that THEY finally recommended, in December 2012, de-installing them, sending them back to the manufacturer, and having the shades re-built. They said it would take 10 days. Six weeks later, after I had gone through the entire Christmas holiday with bare windows on the largest wall of windows in my home, and hearing NOT ONE WORD from D&D, I called them. They said they didn't know when the shades would be back, but they weren't back yet. (Duh.) About a week later, lo and behold, the "newly rebuilt" shades were returned. As the service tech was lifting them out of the box, CLIPS BROKE OFF AND FLEW ACROSS MY FLOOR. I told him not to bother unpacking it further. He called D&D and "Chet" agreed to replace the shades with something else. To make a long story short, after many phone calls and a visit to their Venice store to pick something else out, I got an estimate for $2500 to replace the shades with something else - about $600 more than my original cost, plus a year of crappy shades on my windows. In order to get something "comparable" (read, the cheapest thing Chet could replace them with, since D&D said the vendor didn't honor their product, so apparently I was supposed to feel OBLIGED to Chet and D&D for being kind enough to stand behind THEIR work), I had to order from their cheapest book of curtains ( not the roman shades I had ordered and paid for, months earlier), and believe it or not, D&D wanted $150 MORE from me to pay for installation. The sad thing is, I am so desperate to have my privacy back in my home, I almost went for it. Fortunately, my brother was visiting and told me I was crazy to do anything but ask for a refund, and start over with another vendor who could offer a better product and much better prices. So I did a little homework, and sure enough - D&D is ridiculously expensive, and, I learned, I am not the first customer to whom they've done this type of thing. So, a couple of days ago, on February 18, 2013 (and mind, it is now about a year since I paid D&D in full for something I still don't have), I called them and said I no longer wish to do business with them, and I want a refund. "Peggy" (who has been professional, kind, and responsive throughout this travesty, but who obviously does whatever Chet tells her to do) informed me that she would tell "Chet", but that she does not believe I can get one, only a store credit. Believe it or not, it is now Thursday, February 21, and I haven't heard a word from D&D about a refund, or anything else. Just no answer. Thank God, I paid for the shades with my American Express card. When I called them and told them what had transpired over the past year, they agreed to take the case, and are doing the arguing with D&D for me. Meanwhile, I've found another vendor in the area, who have some lovely solutions for my windows at half the price. I'll let all you Angie's List fans know how that works out!!! And, by the way, I have two friends from up north who are buying new homes, much more elaborate than mine, and they will be looking for window dressings. They are already aware of the nightmare of D&D, and neither of THEM will be doing business with D&D either... What goes around, comes around!
