Service Technician Preston of Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling arrived at 10AM(on time) to begin the work. I showed him the work site and he got started. He pulled the 27 foot long water suction pipe out of the well. I had never seen that before, so that was quite interesting. He raised my well opening from about 2 inches above ground to about 16 inches above the ground by applying an extension pipe. He wired and piped in the new above ground 1 hp electric pump and completed all of the revised and hook up piping. He also put on a new hose bib connection. I tested various fawcetts around my property and noticed that the pressure inside was low. He was ready to wrap up, but I did not want him to leave until we determined why the water was running slow in the house. I had yet to recruit his diagnostics capabilities when I decided that it must be the nearly clogged whole house filter that was reducing the pressure to drinking water(but the hose connections worked great). While he was still present doing paper work, I changed that whole house filter with a new one and the pressure was then good. He explaned how to adjust the turn on/ turn off pressure of the pump. I knew that I might have to raise it as I have a sprinkler system with 9 zones. When any one zone is running, you want the shut off pressure to be high enough that the pump just stays on(doesn't cycle). I did that a week later and also adjusted the pressure in my bladder pressure tank(about 150 strokes from a bicycle pump!). I think that any company that works with the pressure at the pump or bladder pressure tank should be sure to adjust both pressures. I am a retired engineer and understand the system quite well, but a little old granny would likely need the extra effort by the company to adjust all pressures. The system has been running great now for over three weeks. Because of the extra work and various pipes and components, the final billing came to $920. I then presented him with the 5% off Angie's list coupon and he took 5%($46) off. I would recommend Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling to all Angie's List members. I would finish by saying that all providers should realize that we are still in a depressed economy(depression) and that many consumers only want to fix what is absolutely necessary.
Description of Work: I received three telephone quotes from popular Angie's list providers. I knew that I needed my 1hp electric above ground pump to be replaced and my well to be sealed. I also wanted the piping to be improved as from over the years of repairs, I had a bit of a "spaghetti bowl". Mike Tucker answered the phone each time I called during business hours(very smart of him). We had a good discussion of the work to be done. He quoted $695 for the pump replacement and parts and labor extra for the things I wanted beyond that. His site had a 5% discount which was to be used after receiving the quote which I thought was very honest! He was about $45 above another quoter, but I decided to go with him anyways. We scheduled for late Thursday or first thing Friday morning. The work was done on Friday morning into early afternoon.

Was very pleased with the work. Only talked to Mike by phone, but his cousin Preston was easy to work with and knew what he was doing. I thought the price was very fair, though I agreed in advance to do the trenching for the new pipe and wiring.

I called two companies both of which said I needed a filtration unit. Hillsborough said we needed to install a submersible pump which we had them do. I am not satisfied with the new pump because the water was still cloudy. When Hillsborough Pump first came back after the pump was installed they said just keep running the water. I have tried to contact them several times and have left voice messages. They did respond when the water remained cloudy but it just got worse. We had to install a water filtration system. I feel we did not need a new submersible pump to begin with and wasted that money. I feel we were taken advantage of as there was nothing wrong with the existing pump.

Response from HILLSBOROUGH PUMP AND WELL DRILLING
When (member name removed) called up they were experiencing intermited water pressure and sometimes no water. We came out & determined the water level dropped & the well was cavitating. We let them know the current system would need to be replaced & lowered or they could put a submersible pump in they opted for the submersible. By putting new pump in it would not change the water quality. In my opinion the water quality changed due tot he water level changing. This is a completely different issue that we had no way to know until the new system was installed. We told her she will need a filter system to take care of the cloudy water problem. We do not due water filtration and told her to contact someone who did. They didn't have consistent water when we came but had plenty of water when we were done. A filter system doesn't make water come out of the ground it just makes it better quality.

At 4 pm, Wednesday, 10/30/13, I was alerted by my neighbor that my well pump was leaking. My 1st first call was to the company that had repaired some wiring for my well. They quit at 4:00 pm and don't do service calls after hours. I then went onto Angie's list and started calling companies. The 2nd company I called wanted to set up an appointment for Friday afternoon (yep, 2 days without water, no problem). The 3rd through 5th calls got me answering services.. The 7th call was to Hillsborough Well & Pump and Mike Tucker answered the phone. Hallelujah. He said he could get someone out within the hour. Clifford arrived as promised. Since I was an unexpected service call, he did not have a part he needed. He went to Walmart, got the part, and quickly finished replacing and repairing the leaking pipes. He was efficient and knew what he was doing. I will use this company for any future well problems.

WOW, Mike REALLY knows his stuff. He did a thorough job of analyzing the entire system from power source to low voltage components. He showed me what he was doing throughout and explained in easy to understand steps how he isolated the problem. A previous service tech from another company said we'd have to have the submersible pump replaced at a cost of $600.00 to $800.00 by someone else. Mie explained that this was NOT the problem and that our submersible pump was just fine! Mike came out same day as called and a few hours earlier which saved us some challenges as we had late afternoon plans away from home. We are extremely pleased with all aspects of our interaction with this company and will spread the good word about Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling throughout the Original Carrollwood neighborhood...and beyond!
Description of Work: Inspected irrigation well system, trouble shooting to determine that relay was malfunctioning and needed replacement. Mike had the part on his truck and installed it...tested the system and conferred with me throughout the process.

Mike came out to my Mom and Dad's home quicker than expected in a "better than timely" fashion which was extremely important due to the fact that they have three little ones in the home. He was courteous, polite and professional and answered all of their questions quoting them a reasonable and fair price. Even when small issues developed, they were able to trouble shoot and find a solution and had the pump/well running in no time; all along keeping the quoted price and continuing to present himself and his company as one of the great companies in its field. I would highly recommend Mike and his company to do any type of service that they handle and know that integrity follows him on any job. Many thanks to Mike at Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling and Angie's List for the referral to this company. It is good to know that even far away from my family, I can count on a company to treat them good and justly even when I cannot be there to help them set it up myself. Sincerely, L.C., Houston, TX
Description of Work: Mike came out and put down a pump, including all of the wiring, pressure gauges and anything else that was needed. They were very diligent in making sure that everything was ok and replaced everything that needed to be replaced. Also they put down new pipe. (This work was done for my parents who are on my Angie's List Account even though they are in a different state. All of the information that I have included in the details was relayed by them to me for this feedback.)

To Whom it Concerns, I called Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling for an estimate to install a 150ft well on my property for the irrigation system. I spoke with Mike. Initially, he was very professional, explaining all the different packages available .He answered all my questions appropriately. He had all great reviews on Angies List, so I did not hesitate. I chose the Basic package at a cost of 4,500.00 dollars. Set an installation date for Tues 4/30/13 at 10:00am. As most working class people, I had to rearrange my schedule in order to accommodate but thats part of life. Tuesday morning 10am came and no show. (No phone call, Nothing!) So, I waited til 1130 and then called Mike. Asked him, if he was on his way! At first, he wasn't even sure who I was, so, I reminded him of our conversation. He said he was on a job and another client had no water but he did apologize. OK, Sometimes things happen. I was willing to reschedule at his convenience. He chose Thursday 5/2/13 at 10am. Do you want to guess what happened Thursday morning after I rearranged my schedule again? The SAME THING!!! No courtesy phone call. Nothing! I called him at 11am and it went straight to voicemail; mailbox was full. So my wife called using her phone and he picked up right away. She asked, if he was on the way over. He had no idea what she was talking about. She politely reminded him of his appointment with us and verified our home address. He stated, and I Quote, "My hands are full and I've got to go." Then He HUNG UP. Regardless, of any of his previous reviews on Angies list. This is not a case of you can't satisfy all people. We were cordial, polite and accommodating at all times. If a $4,500.00 job is not motivation enough to get your affairs in order then I don't know what is. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL, COMPLETELY UNSATISFIED. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND...

Mike came out and gave an estimate to install a new bladder and replace piping in the well. The estimate was very competative. They came out exactly when they said they would, the work was done perfectly. They were very professional and cleaned up after themselves. We had water within 3 hours from the time they arrived. EXCELLENT JOB!

Mike was on-time, friendly, and knows what he's doing.
Description of Work: We purchased a home that is missing the pump, tank and connections. Read the good reviews about Mike on Angie's List so we had him come preform a well inspection and quote us for the job. Great guy - really knows what he's doing. Waiting on a final quote estimate from him so we can get the water connected as soon as we close on the house. Will follow up with a "part 2" to this review. Part 2 Mike arrived with another worker and got straight to work. They finished the job beautifully within a couple of hours. These guys definitely know what they are doing and I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs well work done.

Gary came over diagnose why our irrigation system had reduced pressure. He explained all possibilities and gave an estimate for each. He returned the next week to do the work. We have an underground well with no marking so he had me turn on the pump then he proceeded to walk around the yard until he felt the ground vibrating. He found the pump with the first shovel strike! He answered the phone every time and called an hour prior to arriving. I would recommend this company.

I looked on Angie's list and saw that Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling was given 15 reviews and everything was an "A" rating. I called and spoke to Mike. He came out within 2 hours and described why our well wasn't pumping water. The switch had started to short circuit due to our ancient water tank. He was able to replace it and the switch ,that same day, for 695.00 out the door and I used my Angie's list coupon for the discount. Mike is pleasant, courteous, punctual, and consistant. I wouldn't hesitate to call him if a problem developed or to recommend him to a friend.

Yesterday, Sunday morning, I checked my well pump breaker after noticing that the toilet did not refill after flushing. The breaker was tripped and I thought I had pushed it back, but I don't think I did it correctly. Within a few minutes, I had no water in the house. I called Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling after reading all the rave reviews on Angie's List. Mike came out right away. He checked the breaker, then went out to the well and checked it and the bladder tank. According to Mike, the pump is just a few years old and seems to be working alright, though I think he did say it was a slow starter (?). I think it was something like that. Anyway, the bladder tank was as old as the house itself (23 years), and he said it had ruptured, which was causing the breaker to trip and would eventually damage everything else. He had just sold his last tank and offered to ask the gentleman to open the store where he normally gets his tanks, but I told him no, that if he was able to come back in the morning (Monday), that would be fine. He told me how to effectively shove the breaker back and forth if it tripped again before he returned. It did trip off once during the evening, but I was able to turn it back on and it remained until Mike came back this morning, right on schedule. I asked him about re-setting the pressure on the tank to a higher setting. My father had designed the house and had been in the design/build profession all his working years, so he suggested I ask about upping the pressure since he felt that it had been set too low in the beginning. Mike very graciously agreed to do this for me while replacing the tank. He also gave me a new pressure gauge because the old one wasn't working. Everything is working great now and my water pressure has never been this good! I am extremely grateful to Mike (and my dad)! I believe the price he charged was extremely fair and I'm very satisfied. If the pump itself quits on me anytime soon, I am very relieved to know I can call Mike and have it taken care of quickly and I will not be overcharged!
Description of Work: Yesterday, Sunday morning, I noticed the toilet did not fill up after being flushed. I checked the breaker for my well pump and it kept tripping. I couldn't get it to stay, and as a consequence, had no water within a few minutes. I checked Angie's List and found Hillsborough Pump and Well Drilling. I called Mike, who came out right away. He checked the pump and bladder tank and found that the tank needed replacement. He offered to come back out in the morning (Monday) and replace it. In the meantime, he did something that brought my water back on, but advised me how to completely shove the breaker back, then turn it on if it should trip again before he returned. He came back this morning right on schedule and went right to work. I had received some advice from my dad the night before about asking if Mike could re-set the pressure. My dad told me that my water pressure had always run too low and that if it could be set higher, that would be a good thing. I asked Mike about that, and he was able to do it with no problem. Everything is working great now and my water pressure is stronger than it's ever been!

Mike was quick to respond with an estimate and by the end of the week after settlement, he had replaced all faulty well equipment and filtration for less than the estimated cost. The well pump had not been cited as part of the issue but Mike recommended a new one. Even with that, his repair quote was very reasonable so we went ahead with it. Everything is working very well now and the water quality improves with every day. Mike told us many times faulty well equipment leaves deposits in the pipes and it takes some time to clear that out. We feel much better having the new well pump and filters.
Description of Work: We purchased a house with well and septic that we knew needed repairs going into the sale and the seller split the estimated cost of repairs. Realtor got us the estimate but we called Hillsborough to do the actual repairs after seeing a lot of good reviews here on Angie's List

When my well pump finally gave up the ghost, I called Mike at Hillsborough Pump & Well Drilling mostly because of the good reviews on Angie's List. Also on Angie's List I noted that he is 3rd generation in the pump/well drilling business, so, even though as I discovered he is a young man, he is well informed. He is very professional, went about his work quickly so that we had water again the same day I called him. Considering the parts he installed, a new pump with pvc and a new bladder tank, etc, and the work and time involved, I thought his price was reasonable. As repair services go, it was a very pleasant experience. I will be calling Mike in the future to upgrade my filtration system on the well.(Also - The Angie's 5% off coupon more than paid for the year's subscription to this list.)
Description of Work: Installed a new pump and bladder tank to replace old, failed system.
