Carl Hartley

This experience was an absolute nightmare!!!WARNING: DO NOT USE CARL HARTLEY FOR REMODELING ORTILE INSTALLATION!!! This man is a fraud. DO NOT be fooled by his seemingly friendly personality and empty promises. DO NOT be fooled by pictures he shows you of tile work he supposedly completed. His work is substandard at best.I hired a contractor to remodel a small bathroom who hired Carl Hartley to do the work. This job should have taken no more than two weeks but turned into a six-week nightmare. Carl Hartley never worked for more than four hours in a day on my bathroom and he worked at a snail’s pace. He always had an excuse as to why he couldn’t do any more work that day. In fact he was working on multiple projects and was splitting his time between them. He would intentionally show up without the tools necessary (i.e. tile cutter) and then have to return the next day to complete the work he started. He would leave my house to go to another job. I know this because I overhead a phone conversation he had with another customer. He was messy and did a poor job of cleaning up. Some of the tiles are crooked, the grout and caulk lines are sloppy —I had to have him redo several things because of the sloppy work. A blind person could have done a better job. The only reason I let him complete the job was because I didn’t want it to drag on any longer than it had. I didn’t think that I (or the contractor) would be able to find someone who could finish the job right away. Hindsight is 20/20—I should have found someone else regardless of how long it would have taken to finish. I am not naming the contractor that I hired because I feel this was an isolated incident with Carl Hartley and is not a reflection of their overall service. The contractor has vowed never to use him for any other projects.He works for different contractors in the Orlando area. If you hire a contractor to do any kind of remodeling/tile work please get the name of the person they are using. If the name is Carl Hartley insist on someone else or you will have the same bad experience that I had. Do not let this man in your house. He passes himself off as a professional at remodeling/tile installation but the only thing he is a professional at is conning people.I have never experienced such anger and frustration until I met this man. I was an idiot and should have fired him at the first sign of his incompetence. My bathroom is a constant reminder of my stupidity.I feel so strongly about this that I renewed my subscription to Angie’s List just so I could post this. I hope that this posting saves someone from experiencing the same nightmare that I experienced.
