Island Marine did a fantastic job repairing my dock and servicing my two boat lifts. Their charge for my job was very fair. I would highly recommend them.

I bought a house several years ago that had an existing boat-lift. I have been trying for 4 years to get the manufacture and/or the company that installed the lift to verify what is the weight rating on the lift. No one was able to give me an answer (or just didn’t want to be bothered). I met the owner of Island Marine Construction, Tim, at the at St Pete boat show last weekend. Tim has been building docs and installing lifts for 30+ years and was very educated on all lifts. I asked him if he could help me get the weight rating for my lift even though it was not the brand that he currently installs. He said no problem and asked me to get several dimensions and the horsepower of the current lift motor. Within 24 hours Tim called the manufacturer and had my answer!! AMAZING!!

Horrible. I hired them to do an installation of a 4 post lift. Their equipment looked completely dilapidated, they claimed they hit rocks and had to bring in a different company to 'drill" at my expense, 50% of their bid, to go through the mud. I live in a canal and there has never been a situation of rocks. Scam! They installed the lift that I purchased elsewhere and kept complaining about the process. After their installation, they would not make any adjustments and did not wrap the post as agreed. You’ll be better off paying more, I would not recommend them at all. Tim is a minute away from retirement and could not care less. Below is a pic of the $4,000 drilling that needed to be done. Go to the next booth for sure.

We were out of the country at the time we received the message that similar work would soon be done in our development, so we joined in hoping to minimize our portion of mobilization and demobilization costs. That goal was achieved along with Island Marine directly pursuing the multitude of approvals (HOA, County permit, electrical inspection, permit closure) without any effort necessary from us. When we arrived to resume our Florida residence all the work was complete and as a civil engineer, I view the workmanship to be excellent such that a long service life will be provided. Thanks to the team!

Island Marine Construction did an outstanding job on our project. I get compliments weekly from other contractors and boaters passing by on how much they love the design and workmanship on the jet ski lift that we had installed. Tim and Joni (the owners) and the project crew were attentive, communicative, and responsive throughout the entire process. Having dealt with roughly a dozen contractors over the past 12 months as we completely remodel our home, I rate this contractor at the very top of my list of contractors I would use again and trust to get the job done right with minimal client micro-management.

Awful. This guy is the WORST contractor I have ever dealt with in many years of experience. We paid he and his wife over $60,000 and got severely screwed. The boat entire build was a major disaster because of Tim and Joanie’s lack of intelligence, skill, disorganization, and Tim’s rapidly deteriorating mental capacity. The two con artists even took two European cruises during the build, which caused the seriously delayed project to primarily be stopped during their absence. ALL of his employees, which most, if not all, have quit since I served him with a cease and desist demand letter from our attorney laughed at them any time they’re not around, which was FREQUENTLY. His main foreman’s cell phone even said “The idiots calling”, when Tim was calling-in. Tim has along-standing reputation around Treasure Island as a thief and a liar; I did not thoroughly research him before I erroneously engaged his pitiful services. BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART. How they stay in business, is a mystery to me, and obviously other reviewers, and past employees and associates. If you meet Tim or Joanie, hold your wallet and run away as fast as you can. BAD business people, and just as human beings in general.

Workers unskilled, time frames not even close to what was promised. Workmanship constantly corrected. In my opinion, breach of contract. Contract called for Stainless steel bolts, screws and nails. None of the nails were stainless, bolt heads and washers rusting away almost immediately. Promise to replace and then won't respond to phone, email or text. In my opinion, and incompetent crook.

Island Marine Construction provided an exceptional experience. Tim and Joni couldn't have been more helpful or more professional. They walked me through my options and helped me pick the perfect lift for my situation. We agreed on a schedule and they met the schedule as promised. What more could I ask for. Its hard finding contractors today that actually meet or exceed expectations. I can assure you that Island Marine Construction is the right choice for your next project!

Tim and Joni and crew were the best. The old dock and pilings were completely disassembled and taken away. New pilings and dock decking were installed with all stainless steel hardware. The new pilings were all wrapped with a heavy gauge plastic to prevent sea creatures from boring into the wood. They even sent someone out to paint the wood bracing to match the deck color. A few little hiccups were addressed with professionalism and promptness. Overall excellent job.

Everything turned out great! We live over a thousand miles away. This is are second home. Joni (owner) took care of a lot of things why we were still up north. The guys who installed the lift and cat walk ( Randy & Colby ) did a great job. I was there when it was put in and they were Excellent to work with. I Came back a few weeks later to get my boat out of the marina and bring it over to put it on the lift. Since this was my first time putting a boat on a lift Tim (owner) came over and went thru all the do's and don'ts and helped me put the boat on the lift. We are Extremely happy with the way everything went from the beginning to the end!!!! Thanks Island Marine.

The owner Tim came out looked at the dock, gave me a quote on the repairs, and went on and on about irrelevant stuff to what needed to be done to fix the dock. He clearly was just trying to increase the amount of work that needed to be done. When we finally settled on what needed to be done, he said he would come out on a specific date to make the repairs. He never showed up and blew me off and wouldn't respond to attempts to get in touch with him. Arrogant and not trustworthy. Talked with other contractors and they all had the same opinion of him. Don't waste your time with this guy.

I am an experienced 50 year old builder who has worked with dozens of contractors over my lifetime. Island Marine was one of the most difficult companies I have ever dealt with. The job began with the Island Marine owner complaining about how long it took one of the pilings to go in--he immediately started talking about "change orders". When the company started building out the platform lift, they measured incorrectly twice and ran out of trex boards both times, delaying the job for several days while they ordered more. When the lift motor and cables were installed, building inspectors from both the city and county examined the work and indicated that safety covers should be placed over the cables since the installation was lower than normal and someone's hand could get injured. Island Marine fought for almost 2 weeks with the inspectors trying to avoid fixing the safety issue because it would cost them money. Island Marine finally installed a cheap piece of painted wood over the lift cables rather than use the manufacturer's aluminum covers that would have looked much nicer. Island Marine then adjusted my existing boat cables up 5 inches in the front; when we attempted to use the lift the cables slipped and the boat fell, jolting my passengers and scaring everyone. Finally, during Island Marine's construction our existing dock started to sag on one side; where the boat slammed down after the cables slipped. Island Marine refused to accept any responsibility for the sagging dock and I had to finally hire a separate company to fix the problem. I have never met owners of a company that fought so hard to avoid doing the right thing!
Description of Work: Installed 4 new wrapped pilings, installed new 10k pound PWC lift with platform cradle, attached owner supplied fish cleaning table on existing dock, adjusted cables and bunks on existing boat lift.

I can't say enough good things about Tim and the company. Not only were they less expensive than the other 4 bids we received, but their service was exceptional. Work was completed ahead of schedule. They were prompt in responding to questions. They set up the lift and had a "class" on using and maintaining the lift. I would not hesitate to use them again or refer to friends and family.

Could not have gone better. I put in a call for an estimate, Tim came right out, went over many small but important details, got me in on his schedule and before I knew it, the job was completed. His crew is very skilled and did the work with ease once again paying attention to every detail (Not an easy job to do correctly) I would definately use again in the future.

I do not know where to begin and how this contractor stays in business. He never filed the correct permits with the city and county on the work completed and we did not know until the county showed up at a door one morning to inspect the work. To make a long story short, it is now March 2013 and the owner Tim McGurk has never completed and corrected the permits after repeated phone calls to him by my husband and the Pinellas County Inspector(Pete). The County Inspector showed up today and did what Tim was suppose to do about 8 months ago. My advice: Stay away from the business unless you want to deal with a procrastinator. The work that was completed was ok but dealing with this very unprofessional contractor is a waste of time.
Description of Work: The dock pilings for our boat lift were hit by lightening and we filed a claim with the insurance company. The agreement with Island Marine was to replace damaged pilings in same location and move lift pilings and reset as 4 tile poles. We paid for additional permits and processing to do the work
