The Floor Store

The estimator showed up right on time. He sent the bid and scheduled a time within the next week. The workmen showed up right on time and proceeded with the job. I was very pleased with the craftsmanship. I did all the maintenance on our rentals for 35 years, so I know when a job is done right. I had previously had The Floor Store install carpet in a house we were preparing for rental, and they did an excellent job at an excellent price. I had a previous bid of $650 for this job, just to replace the plywood in the rotted areas. Flooring would have been in addition. Who wants a piece of bare plywood under the toilet?

1. Have dealt often and well with HomeDepot and Lowes, but went in to check this store out as I try to help give local sellers customers. Prices and good variety were good. 2. The manager/only seller-person in the store, did offer good varieties and followed my request of price limits and explaining my questions regarding "why this type vs this one?" However he was too talkative; other stores rarely over talk their items. 3. I agreed to his requirement that I prepay most of my order that he then places and it takes several days since much is not kept available. 4. I don't remember at the time if he explained to me that after laminated wood was completed and I still would have a full unopened box that his store does not offer return/payback. (This did occur, and I was upset about a full box that his sales receipt does't show the cost per individual box.) 5. His statement didn't show distinctive prices. He just wrote down the 3 different room items separately (LR was 9 boxes and 2 trim molding), used a small hands-on adding machine as he stated the costs of the 3 room separate costs, then wrote the $1490 total on the purchase signed page. I later wrote on my state,ment that LR involved flooring for 12X20 sq. ft. room; its cost was $477. There was no clear statement showing that my full cost included their service workers laying the vinyl flooring, although there is some business wording at the bottom the the page how "all work to be completed in a workmanlike manner according to standard practice." However, my personal statement does not show that we agreed to have his workers only lay the vinyl, but we verbally understood this. 6. After flooring had all been completed, I noticed in early December that there was a crack on the side of a toilet which hadn't been there in November (but I had no proof, just my memory.) I called a local professional maintenance worker who explained to me that the men laying the vinyl should have lifted the toilet to properly lay around the water drain area. I called The Floor Store acknowledging that I couldn't prove the need of a new toilet on their committing improper action, but that I had learned from several other resources that flooring is not laid around the already present toilet base, but the toilet should always be lifted then reset. The Floor Store disagreed with me and also stated that they don't have a plumbing license so couldn't lift the toilet from the floor to properly place the flooring--they said I should have measured the area to buy a new toilet with same or larger base. I had enough other floor services on this issue that The Floor Store workers agreed that as long as a proper plumber would lift then reset the new toilet, they would correct the vinyl extra. It took over 2 months before they had the time to come carry out this couple hour but well done service. Within a few days the new toilet was properly placed. 7. When looking around and even changing a small room flooring purchase via Lowes, I saw that Lowes offered better prices for some of my already purchased flooring items and said they always lift and put back toilets when replacing flooring in such areas 7. Overall, I was very disappointed with The Floor Store, especially dealing with the single store manager in person. I will never encourage local friends to deal with that store.
