JR responded immediately to my inquiry, measured my front entryway, and gave a quote for installation of double-hung fiberglass entry doors. He picked up the doors when they arrived at Lowe's, arrived at my home as scheduled (with his son), and spent three days on the installation. Although his initial craftsmanship was imperfect and somewhat shoddy, he was very courteous, friendly, and accommodating: When he left screw- and nail-holes without any putty, I asked him and he returned (after one cancelled and rescheduled appointment) to fill them and paint over the filling. When I pointed out that the wooden framing didn't meet at the top, he filled the gap with putty--yet the gap is, to this day, still visible. But I'm not a perfectionist, so all of this was to my satisfaction. Yet there are still a few major problems with his work: I pointed out that the door closed tightly, but only with some effort, he didn't want to improve it because he insisted it will close better "over time." Even worse, he never installed the dummy-handle on the outside, that I gave to him. He doesn't remember ever receiving it, and it has never been found. My front door still closes only with some effort, and has only one (working) handle. He has not been given an "A" rating primarily because the door doesn't work well, he never installed the handle, and he hasn't offered to replace it (I gave it to him when he was given the working handle). Otherwise he's a nice, likeable guy.
Description of Work: Pick up and installation of fiberglass double-hung entry doors, basic 2x4 lumber doorframe trim; installation of one door handle and deadbolt lock; prime trim; seal edges/gaps and nail/screw holes; fill cement crack in the front porch and stoop.

Found John through Angie's list. He was very accomodating on scheduling and honoring his estimate. Work was done in a timely fashion and, when one of the interior colors we'd chosen didn't work for us, he was quick to come back and re-paint, still at a very reasonable price, We also had him help with some handyman jobs. All in, John's a good guy who puts his customers first. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: John did interior painting and handyman work for us. Excellent quality, very reliable, good value. Will definately call him back for future handyman and painting jobs.

I have no idea how much we spent on the service. He was on time. He was clean and he did a good job. I thought he was great. He did what we needed him to do. His price was very good and very reasonable. The quality of his work has passed my inspection. He’s done good work. He was very good. We will use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: We used J R Home Improvement. We last used his services probably in December of 2010. He repaired some wood rot for us.

These guys are real professionals. great work ethic and technical expertise. I got the impression they were much more skilled and experienced at much more significant projects than mine. construction drop off in Orlando is my gain. Since he didn't know the extent of the termite damage until the walls were taken down, he couldn't give me a firm price, we agreed on a day rate - which I love. nothing irks me more than being quoted $4,000 for a job only to find out it only took a day to complete. The guy was referred to me by my friend who is in charge of maintaining my office building and literally a third of the commercial space in downtown Winter Park.
Description of Work: they removed and replaced stucco and replaced wood destroyed by termites. It was fairly complex work as it was through two stories of my wood frame house.

The owner, JR, did a great deal of painting at an extremely reasonable cost. He arrived early, worked steadily, and just did an overall excellent job. The walls look fantastic. He is very personable. I was so impressed that I intend to hire him to do some additional jobs.
Description of Work: I purchased a "Big Deal" to paint one room for $99. He ended up painting one room and a hallway (for a little extra). Well worth the price given that I have more than 9 foot ceilings.

The overall work was excellent, I would call JR for any home repair I was in need of.
Description of Work: JR installed a screen enclosure on the alcove in front of our house. He enclosed the entire area with help from his son. They were both very professional, punctual, and pleasant to work with. JR could have not been anymore willing to please myself and my husband. He made sure we were pleased with his work and if we had any problems he would return promptly to fix them. To this day the screen and door are working great with no problems, we haven't had to all him back to fix anything. Its nice to know that you can rely on him to do it right the first time. I would recommend him to anyone needing a screen enclosure.

JR came recommended from my daughter. I called him to come and give me an estimate on the repair since my husband is elderly and can no longer do repairs. He came the same day, his estimate was very reasonable, and since my old faucet was leaking so bad he replaced the faucet and disposal in the same day. He was very polite, easy to work with, and I was pleased that it all got fixed correctly in the same day. I was so pleased with his work that I had him come back to do other repairs for me, and i would call him again if I needed work done. It puts my mind at ease to know a reliable handyman when I need one.

I called JR home improvement to assess a leak I was having coming from the bathroom. He was able to assess the problem and give me a reasonable estimate for the job. A section of the drywall had to be removed as well as some tile in order to get to the leaky pipe. After he replaced the pipe that had the damage, he replaced the tile he took out as well as the drywall. Everything was done in a professional and timely manner. I would definitely use him.

We are pleased with the services performed and would recommend JR Home Improvements.
Description of Work: JR and his son recently completed two jobs for us. The first was a rehab on our front door, which including refinishing and varnishing. It is a wood door. I was much happier with their job than the professional painter I hired to do it two years ago. They showed up early, removed the door quickly and did the work at their wood shop. They then returned and installed our beautifully refinished door. Everything was cleaned up to perfection. Today, I asked them to install two ceiling fans in my enclosed pool area. Again, they were early, reliable and neat. They knew exactly how to perform the work and showed me how everything operated. This is the third and fourth time I have used this company and have always been pleased. Very few businesses provide a consistently good service. My husband and I continue to believe that JR and his son are "a real find."

It went great. JR cleaned up after himself well and had no problem with the assortment of "need to get done" items. He swept and bagged all the gutter muck, and washed down the driveway after he was done.
Description of Work: I signed up for a 2 hours of handyman service Big Deal with JR Home Improvement back in December. Was waiting to have multiple handyman tasks before calling. In the last 10 days, my doorbell and my study ceiling fixture stopped working. Last weekend, I went to Lowes and got a new inside doorbell box and a ceiling light. And I realized my gutters over the garage and porch were full. Called this week during the day. Call was promptly returned, no problem with the Dec big deal, and, wonderfully, he could come this week on Saturday. He replaced my door bell interior box, and then confirmed the real problem was in the outside ringer. He went off to Lowe's, bought a new one, and came back and installed it. He also replaced a celing fixture which had a burnt out balast. And then he cleaned out my gutters. It was so nice to have a person come and do 3 assorted tasks quickly, cleanly and proficiently. I will definitely call on JR Home Improvement again -- with or without the "big deal."

ceramic tile, remodeling, handyman service

At the beginning of February, I decided to have work done in my home. I asked for references from people I work with and someone recommended J.R. Naugle with JR Home Improvements. She said she was happy with his price and work, she did mention a few problems she had but I overlooked them because she seemed overall pleased. I contacted JR, he and his son came to my home, viewed what I wanted done and the next day emailed me the estimate. I had a few other estimates and I decided to hire JR Home Improvements. We decided on a certain date to start the work and he said it would take a day and half. I was having some old ceramic tile removed as well as the raised entry way that was under it (currently it was wood). His proposal was to pour concrete and install new tile there. The day that we planned to begin work, it rained very heavily so he couldn?t do the work he said, so we had agreed that he would show up at 8:00am the next morning. I took a vacation day from work to be home, I started calling him at 8:30 and finally got him a few hours later, he said he had got hung up on another job and would be there by noon. He showed up at 3:30, with no call and I wasted a vacation day sitting and waiting for him. When he and his son showed up, they went right to doing the demo, no concern for covering up anything, his son worked like he was outside not inside someones home. I have a huge gouge in my wood tv stand from his son slinging the sledgehammer, he also cut his hand and wiped the blood on my wall, never even cleaning it. He worked for about 5 hours that night and said it was too dark to do anything else and said he didn?t have what he needed because he didn?t have the room in his truck, even though he said he had huge lights and would get to a certain point that day. He then showed up the next morning (Saturday) to begin pouring the concrete. He put the wood frame down, but didn?t put any black builders bisqueen plastic down, so once he poured the concrete, the water began running through my home, his answer was, just put a few towels down, it will wash out. I did that, it actually soaked up 6 huge beach towels and no they didn?t wash up, I had to throw them away. But prior to that, his son began pouring the concrete from 5 gallon buckets into the space but was holding the buckets next to his shoulder which was approx 6 ft off of the ground. So, needless to say, he was splashing it everywhere. I had concrete everywhere, even though JR told him more than once to pour closer to the ground, he refused and kept making the mess. It was on my living room which was approx 11 ft. away from where he was pouring. They finally left about 4 that afternoon and I asked him to show up about noon the next day to do the tile, he did accommodate me with that and showed up on time and did a nice job with the tile, he finished in about 4 hours and said he had to leave to take his wife to dinner but said he would be back the next afternoon to finish the job. He showed up at 5:00 (which is when I got home from work) and put the trim on and what he called finished the job. He used a nail gun to put the trim on, which was a different size than the rest of the trim in the room (it became obvious why he used the larger trim), didn?t even use caulk for the seams until I asked him to. I then discovered what the bigger problem was, he poured the concrete an inch lower than the original flooring, so not only did he rip my drywall on 3 walls when he removed the original trim, he had no plans to fix it, he told me it was my responsibility and I would just need to repair it and repaint it. He replaced the threshold on my front door as well and because of the inch gap there is a gap on either side of my front door at the bottom that he said wasn?t his responsibility to fix. We briefly discussed replacing my front door and all the trim, so he said oh don?t worry about that when we replace the door we will take care of that. I wouldn?t pay this man to fix anything else in my home nor would I allow him back in to do anything further. When he finally finished what was going to take a day and half, 4 days later, my house was a shamble, his clean up everywhere was atrocious. He left wood trim pieces everywhere, ruined a garden flag with concrete, ruined solar lights in my yard with concrete, stains on my living room wall from the concrete splatter, damaged tv stand from his son not to mention the blood stain on my wall. Then when he finished (his words) the job, he charged me another $100 for the job and said it took more concrete than he expected and the original proposal didn?t include a new threshold. It didn?t but he put on the proposal a new one would be approx $30 not the $100 he charged me. I was so disgusted and literally in tears, I just wanted him out of my home. It has cost me almost another $100 to fix his damage and awful work. Yes, he is a nice guy, but he isn?t qualified to do large projects and his attention to detail is non existent! I am still cleaning up concrete outside and it has been weeks. I did contact him about the gaps because of the rain and it getting it, he said he would come out this past weekend (Sunday at noon) and he never showed or called. I wouldn?t recommend this man or his work to anyone. I have already told the original person that recommended him and she was thankful for my feedback. This is JR's response to my review on Angie's list: Hi, I just texted you again but after reviewing your comment. ?I never showed or called? it dawned on me that might not be receiving my texts. Anyway, I am shocked at your report as the condition of your front entryway for lack of a better word was total s***? cracked tiles, wobbly floor, wobbly wall, barely secure door?.And NOW?.beautiful entry, strong concrete, beautiful tile and as a bonus, strong secure wall??And all for $ 490.00?.including materials!!!! I agreed to come out and look at and fix the ?gap issue? and texted I was tied up in Kissimmee painting Sunday, but you apparently didn?t get that message? I only hope that in your business, when you work hard for someone, take time to explain every detail and work days you would rather be home with your family?..someone turns around and rams it up your backside?..so you can truly appreciate how this feels. Thanks My response to Mr. Naugle is: The fact remains: Drywall ripped and not repaired Stains from concrete on my wall Damage from the sledge hammer to furniture Blood stain on wall Over an inch gap under original trim around door, that is causing large amounts of rain in Trim that doesn't match the rest Over payment of estimate and never discussed with me prior to or during job Had my cell phone number and email but claims he tried to text me, we have never communicated by text always by phone calls or emails Pictures don't lie The success of your business relys on customer satisfaction and this is something you have complete control over. In reference to Mr. Naugles' response, you can see that he has no sense of ownership or remorse of the quality of work that he did. Please make no mistake, he wasn't "helping" me out, he reviewed in detail the job and then submitted an estimate and was over paid for the job. At no point in this process did he indicate he had reservations about the job, I would have more respect for him had he done that rather than causing the damage and additional cost to fix his incomplete and incorrect job. JR received the report he deserved, not unreasonable and surely not unfair. Understand, he has yet tried to make it right, all I got was the nasty email above. Professional? Again, a picture is worth more than words.
Description of Work: Remove old ceramic tile, wood flooring underneath of original tile and pour concrete in its place, install new ceramic tile.

In retrospect, I am truly sorry I accepted this job in the first place. The member lives in an apartment building that was constructed VERY POORLY. Upon arrival, I noticed simply opening and closing the front shook the entire wall all the way down to the adjacent unit. Another customer referred me so I tried to make the Best out of a bad situation. Shame on me and now our company takes a very unreasonable and unfair reporting. I have once again learned a lesson trying to help someone out and suffering in the end...Thanks to Angie's for allowing us to post the other side of the story..JR

It was a pleasure having John, and on a few days his son, in my home. They showed up as promised, and worked hard. They were both professional and well-spoken. Everything went smoothly, and the house looks great. My 20 foot walls in the living room and stairwell didn't faze him, nor did the removal of a safe and repairing the large hole left in the wall. Whenever I pointed something out to them, they took care of it right away. Several rooms required 2 or 3 coats; he did whatever it took to make the walls look right. I left the house to run errands without a worry in my head. He even pressure washed my driveway when he was done, to get all the paint off it. I would definitely recommend John to anyone who needs work done in their house. I got bids from four A-rated Angie's List painters, and his was the lowest.
Description of Work: John painted the interior of my 2400 sq ft house, including wallpaper removal in two rooms, and most of the ceilings. The job involved several large drywall repairs. He also did a little woodwork repair, which involved setting up a large saw, at no extra charge.

I first want to say that I am writing to preserve the integrity of Angies list. I found JR a nice individual so therefore I find it somewhat difficult to give such a negative report I believe He means well but do believe he tries to work in some areas where he is lacking expertise This work was performed last March and after finding the latest flaw I realized I was doing a disservice to Angie's list by not submitting a report .First the fence a. He did repair the fence but there were several problems. His work was shoddy at best. When putting boards on he drove many nails through with the sharp edge sticking out the other side b He replaced one post that was rotted and left the other when attaching the gate c. He replaced some panels and not others that were rotted. The bathroom a. He first broke the tank when taking the flush handle off. He did replace the tank but did so with an inferior one that required two flushes to work. I have sicne had to replace the toilet with a new one b. When replacing the hardware in the sink he did a good job. It was when he installed the toilet paper holder. It is so close to the wall that it is extremely difficult to take off and put on new rolls. Too flush to the wall c. The third problem was the one that finally made me realize I needed to submit the report. For some reason he started to take off the shower valve(TURN _OFF). When My wife spotted this she told him we did not ask to have that done. He went back to his truck and put it back together. This is a shower that has not been used till This February- We discovered the shower valve was not working properly.I have had to have a plumber redo this work d. He replaced an old ceiling fan with a new one. The problem when we pulled the fan cord the fan came loose. He did fix this problem later As stated it is not easy too be negative but I would be in the wrong if I did not submit this regarding all these problems

The guest bath toilet was leaking with water seeping into the bowl. I found J.R. on Angie's list, contacted him and he quoted me a price of $75.00 over the phone. l made an appointment with him and he showed up on time. He introduced himself and started to work. In about 45 minutes, he had the inside mechanicals of the toilet replaced, the water flow adjusted and cleaned up his work area. J.R. was polite, friendly and very neat about his work. He charged the quoted price and was on his way. I would definitely use him again for anything else should the need arise. I am very satisfied with him and his wrok.

It is great to have a reliable handyman to help with all the tasks that we either do not have time to do, or that are unable to do at this point in our retired lives. My husband used to be able to do a lot of these things himself, but can no longer climb ladders or lift heavy objects. JR was prompt with his quote and answered e-mail questions quickly (my preferred method of communication).
Description of Work: JR had worked on our hobby greenhouse earlier in the month and we had him back to paint the vent on the greenhouse brown to better match the screening. He also painted our triple pane French doors leading from the living room to the screened porch. He was very careful to not spill paint on the floor and taped the mullions to prevent getting paint on the glass panes. Among the handyman tasks that had accumulated at our house, he helped us with three - he wired up the DVD/VCR/tr to run with our remote, replaced a water pump in our ceramic pot fountain, and best of all assembled the pine/teak A-frame porch swing for our back patio. I had ordered the swing on-line and it would have remained in its box had JR not put it together - it looks great on the patio!

Everything went well - our plants are now thriving in the re-roofed greenhouse with more light.
Description of Work: J R removed old screen and fiberglass roofing from our hobby greenhouse, then re-screened it and replaced the roof with poly panels and installed a new aluminum ridge vent. Foam supports were placed underneath the poly panel. While he was on the roof, he also cut back a few tree branches to allow more sunlight into the greenhouse.

JR is an extremely nice guy...it was a pleasure to have him do the job. He was punctual, very thorough and quick, and I have no complaints. It was a tricky job, somewhat, to get the over-sized windows to fit (my fault because I measured wrong when I ordered them), but JR made it work. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: JR removed wood paneling and trim on interior to make room for new windows I had already bought. He then installed the three windows, trimmed-out and caulked them. He also took the old ones (I had already uninstalled them prior to his arrival) from the yard for me when he left.
