Contractor plus addl. worker @ $15/hr removed 7 old metal fence poles and 70' of top rails. Only dug out one of the poles, cut off all the others and installed new poles (did not have to dig and haul away the poles with their concrete bases). Did a decent job on these poles. Installed some new top poles but also re-used some old ones by sleeving with new pieces. Installed a lot of new hardware for connecting the chain link fencing. I purchased all the materials at Home Depot with the Contractor, as his policy is "labor only". Materials were $600 Contractor came back following day with two addl. workers to connect the fencing and cement two more poles. Contractor then installed six gates, of which 4 were new gates 5x6', one was reusable and removed during pole replacement, and another new gate was installed with materials fabricated from the four old gates. Contractor incorrectly; installed the gate latches on two gates so they could not be locked. Contractor left one corner pole with cement base by the side of the road (don't know if County will pick this up). Contractor cut off a 5" diameter tree that interfered with the fence and placed the tree by the side of the road on top of the metal pole. This is not an area where County Trash typically picks up materials, but I can't move anything so I hope they will collect it next Tuesday on pick-up day. (I am a disabled Vietnam vet) I told Chuck where the old materials should go, but the word didn't get to his worker who put the tree and one pole on the other side of the property. I did a quick look at the work using my mobility scooter, and did not notice the problems indicated above. Contractor told me he would return next afternoon to remove the one old gate and repair the gate locks. He did not show and called that night and said he had broken his toe, but would come the following afternoon. Again he did not show and did not call. This is a day later, and he has still not called. My MISTAKE was that I went ahead and paid him two days ago so that he could pay his two workers. With the bill paid, I had hopes that he would make good on his word to do the follow-up work that was part of the Contract. Tired of waiting, I had a neighbor come and move the old gate for me into the junk pile, and another neighbor did a grinding of the two gate lock poles so that the gate locks could be installed properly - I installed them myself, and now my fence is complete, little thanks to Chuck's Handman Service .
