Description of Work: After receiving quotes from 5 other companies, we decided to use West Coast. They were one of the lowest quotes on this $20K+ project for replacement of sliding doors and windows with PGT hurricane units. The project went just as expected, there was clear email and phone communication by the company before the work and then on the day specified, their workers arrived (a crew of 8 plus supervisor) and 3 days later the job was completed. Adequate measures were taken to protect furniture, floors, etc. Curtains were removed and returned, and the glass was given a final cleaning. We're very pleased with the quality of work and skill displayed by the works. We highly recommend this company.

Description of Work: Being highly rated on Angie's List and working within a limited time to ready a rental unit, I ordered two utility doors and a sliding glass door. West Coast gave me an estimate for doors and install which I considered to be quite high. The reason West Coast gave for the high cost was that they were "custom" doors and had to be cut down. I'm not a total amateur, and have renovated investment properties, usually working with a general contractor. For this project, $800@ for each door and install broke the renovation budget, so I cancelled the two utility doors. The sliding glass door was installed satisfactorily; however, for the price, it doesn't match the quality of the sliding doors I've had installed in other units I own. There was no negotiation on price or or selection other than the color of the sliding door, bronze or white, basically take it or leave it. I paid a deposit on the original estimate, and am still waiting for the balance to be returned a month later. While West Coast Windows knows their business, my advice would be to shop and compare before contacting them.

Response from WEST COAST WINDOWS & EXTERIORS
[Member named removed] was remodeling a rental property and asked me for the least expensive sliding glass door we install. I quoted him for an aluminum sliding glass door and 2 exterior doors for the utility rooms. I explained to [member name removed] that a standard door is 81" tall and his doors were 76" meaning the doors would have to be cut down at the factory to a custom size. I also explained to [member name removed] that the fiberglass doors were not going to rot out in 5 years and were higher quality than the ones from the box stores. [Member name removed] signed a contract with me that day, without asking for other brands or a negotiation of price. I did not pressure [member name removed] or offer him a discount to sign that day. The total contract was for $2125 for the 3 doors which is about $700 per door installed. [Member name removed] called 2 days after signing the contract upset with the cost of the exterior doors. He asked me to cancel the 2 exterior doors from the order but still wanted the sliding glass door installed. Since the cost of the sliding glass door was lower than the original deposit [member name removed] had put down, he was to receive a refund for the difference in cost. I told him at that time the SGD would be $750 and I would send a check for the difference between the sliding glass door and the deposit with the installer when we put in the sliding glass door. On the day of the installation, I forgot to give the check to our installer. Our installer informed [member name removed] of my mistake, and told him that I mailed [member name removed] the check. The check was sent out July 21 and it was cashed July 31. I have a copy of the check from my bank. We have never kept a deposit from a customer in 23 years. We have never had a complaint from the BBB in 23 years. West Coast Windows would not have enjoyed such a long existence if we were not competitive in pricing. Since we service products after installation we work with companies that have a proven track record of quality. We may pay more for our product, but this is because we have found that our products have a greater longevity and overall make our customers satisfied. I'm sorry that I didn't do a better job explaining this to [member name removed], and wish him the best of luck with all other renovations. Dave Dollbaum Owner WCW

The estimator arrived in a timely manner and provided information to allow a decision and answered questions. After the decision was made to have them installed, the company made arrangements to measure windows. I called in advance to schedule a time for installation. All staff were timely and polite. All payment methods are accepted. The cost seemed reasonable.
Description of Work: They provided an estimate, ordered shutters after a down payment, informed me of the 6-8 week wait for installation, and installed shutters within the time frame stated.

Mr. Payne came to the house to describe products, make recommendations, and prepare the estimate on March 17. We placed the order (after receiving other bids) with West Coast based on price and professionalism. By professionalism, at this stage of the process, I mean offered numerous options, detailed explanations, and never downgraded or bashed other companies or competitors. Very professional salesman. The panels were installed yesterday, April 27, 2006, and the installation crew (2 person) were fast, efficient, courteous, and again, professional. All phases of this project were completed on time, on the schedule they originally set. Every appointment was kept, confirmed the day before, and on time. Each panel was put up so I could see they all fit, and I was supplied with a good supply of extra wing nuts and bolt covers. Price was competitive (not over the top like some bids were). I wholeheartedly recommend this company and would not hesitate to use them again.

I had gotten several estimates on having hurricane shutters installed on my home. When their estimator, Bill, came out, he was more knowledgeable than any from the other companies I had talked to. His price was not the lowest, but it was competitive with my other bids, and lower than most. I was told the work would be preformed in 4 to 5 weeks. I checked out the company through the BBB, and they had a clean record, so I signed a contract with them. That was one of my better decisions. In a few days, Sam came out and took final measurements. I had a few more questions by that time, and he took the time to make sure I had all the answers. Soon I received a call that my panels were ready for installation. They worked out a date that was convenient for me and my schedule. The work was done in one day, as promised, and was actually completed a week earlier than they had promised. Amazing. The workers did not leave a mess when they finished. I have recommended them several times since.

THE SALESMAN(JOHN) CAME TO PROVIDE AN ESTIMATE FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL WINDOWS/SLIDING DOORS IN MY CONDO WITH STORM RESISTANT WINDOWS. LONG DISCUSSION ABOUT MISREPRESENTATION OF PRODUCTS BY OTHER COMPANIES ENSUED. JOHN ASSURED ME OF HIS/HIS COMPANY'S HONESTY. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO MISREPRESENT HIS PRODUCT AS DADE COUNTY APPROVED. IT IS NOT. THE PRODUCT FROM SEASON SHIELD IS IMPACT RESISTANT AND MAY MEET SOME DADE COUNTY STANDARDS-BUT IT IS NOT MIAMI DADE APPROVED AS INDICATED BY MY "HONEST" SALES GUY. WHEN I COMPLAINED TO THE OWNER ABOUT THE MISREPRESENTATION HE DID APOLOGIZE TO ME. I EVEN AGREED TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE COMPANY SINCE WE WERE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE ABOUT THE NATURE OF THE PRODUCT SO TO SPEAK. I WAS TO RECEIVE A QUOTE FROM THE COMPANY FOR IMPACT RESISTANT WINDOWS(NOT DADE COUNTY APPROVED). I AM STILL WAITING ON THAT QUOTE SOME 3 MONTHS LATER. FROM THE OTHER REVIEW WRITTEN ON ANGIE'S LIST PERHAPS NOT HEARING FROM THEM WAS A VERY GOOD THING....

CAME OUT WHEN I CALLED. GAVE ESTIMATE ON WINDOWS. SAID IT WOULD BE A COUPLE OF WEEKS. CAME OUT, DID FINAL MEASUREMENTS. CALLED 3-4 TIMES. MESSAGE WASN'T GETTING TO PEOPLE. THE GUY THAT DID MEASUREMENTS WAS ON VACATION. 2 WEEKS LATER I CALLED, SAID THEY WOULD TAKE MESSAGE. CAME OUT, SAID IT WOULD BE 2 WEEKS BEFORE WINDOWS CAME IN. 3 WEEKS LATER THEY GAVE ME A SNOW JOB. SAID THEY CALLED IT IN, THEY FORGOT THE ORDER SOMEPLACE. THEY SAID THEY WOULD RE-ORDER...ANOTHER WEEK. 3-4 DAYS TO INSTALL. SENT A NEW PERSON OUT, FINISHED JOB. WHEN THEY CAULKED WINDOWS, THEY THREW GLOBS OF CAULKING IN FRONT YARD. 1 WINDOW HAS 4 HOLES DRILLED IN WINDOWS. NOTHING TO COVER SCREW HOLES. I CALLED THEM BACK. THEY CAME OUT, DIDN'T HAVE DRILL BIT TO PUT CAPS ON. I TOLD HIM TO LEAVE THINGS ALONE. I CAN DO THAT. I NOTICED THE WINDOW STILL HAD STRIPPING HANGING DOWN. I RESOLVED ISSUE ON MY OWN. SCREENS WERE MESSED UP IN 2 BIG FRONT WINDOWS. FRAME WAS BENT. SCREEN WAS TORN.
