Dennis knows more about wood flooring than you can even imagine, and that knowledge & expertise shows in his work. Dennis is also a wonderful communicator - he explains everything in detail so you understand exactly what is going to be done, and he is quick to answer calls & emails and answer questions. Because the flooding meant an insurance company was involved, Dennis put together an incredibly detailed estimate of the work that needed to be done so that there would be no questions from the insurance company about the necessity of the work to be done. Although we had a couple of issues towards the end of the project, Dennis responded to our concerns quickly & decisively, and the end result is a floor that looks incredible. We felt the cost was very reasonable for the work that was done. If we ever decide to refinish the floors in our other rooms we would not hesitate to call Through the Woods, and I would recommend their work highly.

I'm extremely happy with them. I felt the price was reasonable. The workmanship was outstanding. They're just easy to get along with, show up on time, and it was an overall wonderful experience. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Through The Woods did a wonderful job refinishing my vintage oak floors. The floors were in very bad shape, and now they look new and beautiful. I chose Through The Woods because I was impressed by Dennis' knowledge and professionalism. His craftsmen were very polite and respectful of my home and belongings. Their equipment was new, and they worked quickly and efficiently. I was especially impressed with the care they took to match termite-damaged boards in my 60-year old floors with salvaged vintage flooring from the same time period. Dennis explained to me that the grain in lumber from different eras looks different, and that a quality company will make every effort to find matching wood. The previous company that had worked on the floors had not done this, and the mismatch was obvious and ugly. Through The Woods also matched the color of my refinished floors to my wood stairs (that did not need refinishing) so perfectly that you would think that they had been stained and finished at the same time. They really did a quality job. They were not the lowest price, but every day when I see my beautiful floors, I feel that I really got my money's worth. I'd also like to nominate them for the Page of Happiness. I really was happy when they did my floors!

Quick response time, beautiful work AND neat and courteous...we couldn't ask for more. Dennis really over delivered on his promise to make our living room and bedroom (which had been covered up with rugs) shine...the work was quality and his crew blended the floors perfectly into the other rooms of the house. My only regret is that we didn't have enough time before move-in date to have the rest of the floors in the house finished. Would most certainly hire again.

Dennis obviously knows his profession well. The foreman, Chris, was very professional and easy to work with. He has been well trained and takes pride in his work.

Through the woods was good, not extraordinary as I expected from pre-work conversations and the website promises. The sanding machine that inhales the dust was never used to my great dismay and hand sanding details around corners or trim were not what I would have expected. I had to survey the work regularly and bring details to the attention of the fellows working. The finer work was just not as exacting or as considered as I would have expected. However, the company is reputable and the fellows who actually do the work are considerate. I just expected more precision and expertise. There wasn't any wrongdoing or shoddy work, but I expected more detail oriented work for the price and from our initial conversations. The filling used in the cracks has not held up, it has come out and the color did not match. There was wood dust all over my walls when the job was finished and it took even more money to hire someone to remove the dust from my home. Dust had gotten into my air-conditioning system and for a few months was a constant problem until it was entirely removed by using a fine and expensive ac filter and changing it weekly during several months, combined with a detailed cleaning of all walls, ceiling and cabinets. I might use them again but would be very precise in my instructions and wouldn't settle for anything less than what I wanted even if I was assured something else would be equivalent.

We wanted a cutting edge floor - a real wow factor and Dennis introduced us to a type of hardfloor we hadnt seen. The installation took a few days longer as they didnt realize there was painted tile underneath. We were under the impression it was just concrete - another company jumped up and down and determined that. Regardless, it was what it was. I was happy that they didnt take the easy way out and did everything correctly so our floor will last. They put a moisture sealant down and did absolutely wonderful work. There arent many craftsman around so it was so refreshing that we really got a floor that everyone comments on. It was a lot of money for us but well worth it. You usually get what you pay for. Their workers have been with them a long time. It was a pleasant experience. That was when we first bought our house and didnt know anything. Now, 1.5 years later and tons of house issues, I feel so happy that we wont have to worry about any issues with our floor.

We found Dennis to have a tremendous knowledge of wood flooring. We were impressed that he recommended against doing the upstairs which is in good condition and against doing a full refinishing which saved considerable money. His crew was punctual, knowledgeable, and efficient with his foreman Chris always being present while work was being performed. Above all they were anxious to adapt to our schedule and figure out ways to do different parts of the house at different times in order to minimize disruption as much as possible. They exercised great care in moving our furniture. The final product was simply outstanding. Dennis was in constant contact with us throughout the project and always available for any questions that we had.

This was one of the best experiences my wife and I have had with a professional contractor. Dennis, as well as his crew, was patient, responsive, and aware of all the challenges associated with restoring hardwood floors. We have been gradually restoring our house which was build in 1940; and the pine floors were in rough condition due to wood rot and glue residue from covered floor materials. Dennis patiently described the process of restoring the floors; and the best part was that he has his own inventory of old wood (tongue and groove boards salvaged from old homes). His crew is experienced and a pleasure to work with. They solved challenging problems, provided many stain samples, and showed professionalism throughout the project. The end result is a floor that is solid, smooth, well constructed, and evenly stained. Regarding the oak boards in the hallway, they near perfectly matched the stain with the existing boards in the rest of the hallway and home. This was challenging since the replaced boards, installed by another company some time ago, were new and do not absorb stain in the same manner. When it comes time to refinish the oak floor in the rest of the house I will definitely call Dennis.

The work was done promptly and on schedule even though we could not be present to check on progress because we live out of town. The people doing the work were very professional. They even removed some deep stain lines of unknown origin that we did not expect them to be able to remove. We highly recommend "Through the Woods."

Dennis was very professional & polite upon meeting him. He takes hardwood floors very seriously. We were impressed by his professionalism & portfolio & hired him immediately. He replaced, refinished, & stained floors in our living room, dining room, and 2 bedrooms. We were overall very pleased with the results & would hire him again. One of his contractors, however, mistakenly took one of our tools, & we could not work with it during a crucial renovating time window period before we moved in, but it was returned the next day. Overall, I was very pleased with the results.
