Description of Work: We asked for them to come out to give us a estimate of how much it would be... The charged us 49.99 to come out and tell us it would be another$275 just to give us an estimate? That makes no sense they could have save the 49.99 service fee and told me that over the phon.!

Response from Small Jobs Electric
This homeowner was extremely rude on the phone. I reviewed the original call he made to our office and we clearly told him that we have a trip charge of $49 which just gets the electrician to the door, and then once he was out he would provide an estimate for the diagnosis and repair as we charge by the job not by the hour. He agreed to the charge and scheduled an appointment. When the technician was out to his home, he was very rude to him, told him to leave after the technician had provided the estimate for the diagnosis and repair and then he called into the office after the technician left to complain about the $49 trip charge that he had agreed to in the first place. I offered to refund him the $49 which he agreed to and then neglected to mention in his review. I felt that refunding him was very generous, especially because we explained everything very clearly to him prior to his making the appointment with us. He was very belligerent even after I had made the offer to refund him the $49, stating time and again that this was not explained properly to him. I offered to play the call back to him so he could hear it for himself, at which point he hung up on me.

Description of Work: I would have given a F but the electrician managed to get things working. I called this company because of the great reviews on Angie's List. I bought new pool equipment and need 220 service wired to one panel. The electrician did not seem to know how to connect electric to pool equipment. In the end, it took him 3 hours and a $350 charge to do what amounted to connecting a couple of wires to the panel. He did not seem sure of himself and had to second guess himself numerous times. I almost told him to go home but he seemed sure his work would pass a smoke test. The electrician decided to wire the panel as 110 instead of 220 (an allowable installation option), but although I asked why, I was not able to understand his reasoning. One quirk is that when the timer switch is off, there appears to be 110 still being supplied to the panel. When the switch is on, the panel gets 120v, and seems to know it is "on". The electrician could not explain to me why electricity was flowing to the panel when the timer was off. However he assured me it was supposed to work this way, and it appeared to be functioning correctly so I paid him. Since then, I find that Small Jobs Electric signed me up for email newsletters and today I even got unsolicited marketing text messages from them to my personal cellphone! I would not use them again.

Response from Small Jobs Electric
This homeowner is an electrical engineer. He contacted our company after trying to complete the work himself, but found that he couldn't. We came out and provided an estimate and he scheduled us to come out and complete the work. We came out at the scheduled date and time and completed the job on time. Our technician had to figure out what the homeowner had done, redo that and then get his pump working. The homeowner wanted this pump to run on 110v but it's general application is for 240v. So we had to reconfigure the pump so that it would run on 110 volts, which the technician was able to accomplish. The homeowner wanted our technician to explain exactly how he did this, which he did. It is clear from his post however, that the homeowner still is unclear about the explanation. We did contact him after reading this post so that Jason could explain it to him once more, but have yet to hear from him.

Service was great.
Description of Work: The service technician came to my home on the same day I called to make the appointment. He even came earlier than the appt time. The office called to let me know he was available earlier. He was very nice and got to work troubleshooting quickly. He checked my connections to the lights on the dock and boat lift motor.

Description of Work: I responded to the special deal. The company was very nice and the man they sent was very nice... however, he did not pay attention to the specific directions I gave him, so he was late. No big deal on that. I knew I had a problem with a light switch and he fixed that readily. I asked him about GFI switches... for 7 of them, he went to a little chart he had an they were going to be $125 a piece to install... crazy... then I asked him what an electric wire was that was sticking out of the wall and he shrugged. I also had wires with no outlet for the microwave. He did not offer any help there. I ended up having to call another electrician who came and did it all, so the $50 was probably more than I would have paid the one electrician for the double tapped wire he fixed. It just seems to me, as an electrician, he should have said "let me put an outlet on that wire coming out and I would also be happy to put a recepticle in for the microwave... duh... Anyway, it felt very much like a bait and switch operation.

Description of Work: I have used Nathaniel for about 12 years now. He and his father have done numerous work for us over the past 12 years including ceiling fan installations, electrical outets, recessed lighting, surround sound speaking wiring, pool pump replacement, breaker box repairs, and ethernet cabling. Their pricing in the past has been better than most, but the past 3 times we needed more work done, their pricing was substancially higher. I still called them for each of the 3 jobs we had in the house.

Description of Work: I called to make an appointment to have them give me an estimate to install a motion detector for our villa. Small Jobs Electric called the day of the appointment to confirm the appointment and the electrician, Jaz, showed up on time. Jaz was very courteous and knowledgeable and was able to give me an estimate to do the work. I agreed to have him do the work. He was very conscientious and made sure that he explained what he would do and made suggestions about the placement of the motion detector. He answered all my questions about the installation and replacement of the halogen light bulbs, which require special handling, and went through the options available for the motion detector settitngs. I would definitely recommend them and will definitely use them in the future.

Description of Work: Called Monday morning and they came out that afternoon. My doorbell was not working and I needed it replaced/repaired. Technician explained the pricing structure and determined that I needed a new chime which he installed and doorbell is now working fine.. He was very professional and pleasant. I also had a light bulb broken off in the kitchen ceiling and he removed it without charge. Also very helpful in answering some questions I had about my microwave light bulb. I will definitely use Small Jobs again. I am a happy customer.

Excellent.
Description of Work: I had a bedroom circuit that would go dead for no apparant reason. Usually the breaker wouldn't be tripped so I assumed there was a short on one of the fixtures on the circuit and I replaced a few of the recepticles on the circuit myself. However the problem persisted and, to confound me even more, sometimes the breaker would be tripped. Either way, if I flipped the breaker on and off the problem was usually solved - until the next time it went out. I called Small Jobs and they showed up when they said they would. Since my problem was an intermittant one, the electrician for Small Jobs told me that it was usually a difficult issue to find and he gave me the worst-case estimate for such a problem. I was expecting that so told him to go ahead. The first thing he did was plug a heat gun into the circuit and, sure enough, the circuit went dead. He opened up the breaker box and found the problem at first glance. The screw that holds the wire for that circuit to the breaker was defective and the wire was loose in the breaker. It took him just minutes to replace the breaker and instead of the worst-case estimate it only cost me $100.00 for the circuit and $50.00 for the service call. I'm not only happy about spending just $150.00 for something that could have been a royal pain to diagnose, but I also appreciate the fact that Small Jobs looked at the obvious first and saved themelves time and saved me money.
