The project was done exactly within the timetable originally set. Each day any mess created was cleaned up well; including the dust from the tile demo. They created two shelves in the shower using the travertine, and a "footrest" that turned out beautifully! Hennie took the time to find and install a special second "hand held" shower fixture that I requested and the end result was perfect. The final phase of the installation of the glass wall (in place of shower doors) was done smoothly and professionally. We will use Schoeman Ent. when we are ready to redo our second bath.
Description of Work: Completely remove old shower: ceramic tile walls, fixtures, glass doors down to cement floor. Install new shower: extended existing plumbing to allow for a higher placement of new shower head, installed new bladder, shower pan, travertine floor, travertine walls & shelves, new glass wall and new shower fixtures.

These gentlemen are the utmost professionals. The demolition of the old shower went extremely smoothly (Abel was very careful to make sure nothing was tracked through the house) and went down to the studs and through the shower floor to the earth below. The excavation of the concrete was required because, as they predicted, the builder never put in a drain pan when he constructed the original shower. Breaking out the old concrete revealed that the water was seeping through the grout and concrete into the dirt below and forming mold. The mold traveled the same path in reverse up to the shower floor. The installation was exacting, and the final result was dazzling, but that's not where this good-news story ends. About 2 years later (Fall 2010), our shower drain developed an odor of sewage each time the water was running (and only while the water ran). After spending hundreds on the theories of various plumbers without success, one suggested that the weep holes in the shower drain were likely clogged. These holes are how water on the floor of the shower passes into the drain once it seeps through the grout and concrete into the drain pain and over to the drain. When I heard this, I called Hennie. He responded quickly and tried to unclog the holes via a mixture of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar that he forced into the weep holes by stopping up the drain below them. He charged nothing for the visit, and we hoped for the best. Unfortunately, it didn't work in the long run. So, Abel came over to examine the weep holes. To determine if the weep holes are clogged required excavating the drain by removing the tile in a 1' x 1.5' area around the drain and gently (to avoid piercing the drain pan) removing the concrete surrounding the drain until the holes are visible. Overall, it took more than 2 hours. Abel did a fantastic job of excavating the material around the weep holes and discovered they were not at all clogged. Again, no charge was assessed. Plus, Hennie told me that once we found and fixed the problem, they would come back and rebuild the excavated area for no charge. We did finally find a plumber who solved the problem--although he and we are unsure how he did--and Abel came back and restored the shower beautifully to the way it looked before the excavation. Although Hennie insisted no money was required for the repairs, I told him I wanted to pay him since the weep-hole theory was invalid and therefore their installation was not at fault. As you can imagine, I would eagerly recommend this company to anyone both for their highly professional workmanship and incredible ethic of customer service!
Description of Work: In Fall 2008, we hired Schoeman Enterprises to replace the shower in our master bathroom because our old shower floor was always moldy. Nothing we had tried corrected the problem for any length of time. Hennie Schoeman did the estimates, and his son, Abel did the installation along with a subcontractor who put in the free-standing glass.

We were extremely happy with Hennie and Abel. They are complete professionals and became part of our family while they were on site. In fact, while we were glad the work was done, it was sad not interacting with them on a daily / weekly basis. We look forward to our continued friendship and future renovations. We shopped around for months and interviewed several contractors from Angie's List and knew from the 1st visit that Schoeman Ent were a fit for us. Most contractors came out and tried to push their vision on us... they just didnt get it. Hennie LISTENs and WRITEs things down, so there are no communcation issues. Also, they are not condescending and do not always try and do things that will be easy for them. However, they do provide design assistance and common sense advice, which helps tremendously when trying to navigate the complexities of an end-to-end project. Any subs they used... painting, plumbing, cabinetry, electric have been completely vetted by them. You can be assured that anyone walking into your home will do the job well, be courteous, professional, and cleans-up after a day's work. Their attention to detail is what you would expect from professional craftsmen. Anyone can do demo work, but it takes a true artist to do all the little things to make your master bathroom a masterpiece.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of a master bath in your typical contemporary florida style home and painting of master bedroom, including installation of crown molding. Demo of existing bathroom and preparation / customization of areas to be re-tiled / surfaced. All new tile (porcelein & glass), custom cabinets & mirrors, freestanding bathtub, and frameless glass enclosure. All new kohler high-end sink, toilet, and faucets. New exhaust fan installed and chandelier. Walls / ceiling were prepped, repaired, and repainted.

When we moved to the Tampa area nearly two years ago, we intended to buy a move-in-ready home. We had recently done a major renovation on our old home, and did not want the hassle of another renovation. But -- the home we found was in its 1991 original condition. When it came time to look for a contractor to renovate the kitchen, 3 baths, and flooring, one of the interviews was with a contractor recommended by a vendor. Professional, experienced and innovative, we chose Schoeman Enterprises, Inc., over the others. The renovations went smoothly, because this family knows what they are doing, and make sure they understand what their client wants. Professional and Experienced -- The projects (divided into two phases) came in on time and on budget. Innovative -- The kitchen and mster bath were reconfigured to remove design flaws from their original condition. You just cannot go wrong wtih Schoeman Enterprises, Inc. If you wonder about this statement, take a look at the photos on their website: www.SchoemanConstruction.com
Description of Work: Schoeman Enterprises renovated our kitchen, 2 secondary bathrooms and the master bathroom. The kitchen and master bathroom had design flaws from their original construction in 1991. Schoeman Enterprises suggested corrections, then provided the finished product. This included reconfiguring the master bathroom water closet which was incredibly small, and making the counter workspace in the kitchen is more usable and convenient. During the renovation, we also removed all the original carpet and tile. Schoeman suggested a flooring contractor and a painter, when we were ready for the whole house to be painted. These subcontractors had the same high standards and work ethic as Schoeman Enterprises, Inc.

After comparing several estimates and meeting with multiple contractors, we settled on Hennie Schoeman. We felt that he had a good sense of what we were looking for in our new bathroom. He had provided us with a clear and very detailed quote for both the labor costs and for the estimated cost of materials. In addition, we felt comfortable leaving him and his crew at home alone while both my wife and I were at work. We had wanted to be involved in selecting tiles, hardware, tub, etc. Hennie gave us full reign there and incorporated all features we requested - with helpful hints of what to chose and what to avoid. While the entire project took a bit longer than we had hoped, we ended up with a very beautiful and well-designed bathroom that came as close as we could have hoped to our wishes. I would definitely recommend Hennie and his crew to anyone taking on a major remodeling job.
Description of Work: We wanted to remodel our totally outdated and disfunctional master bathroom. This required gutting the entire bathroom, building in new vanities, rebuilding the shower, tiling floors and walls, plumbing, electrical work and custom cabinetry.

I have a "very" small bathroom that was 30 years old! I was looking for a company I could trust and Schoeman Enterprises was that company. Their ad said they don't do "cheap" work so I emailed Hennie Schoeman and said I wanted quality work as "inexpensively as possible"! Hennie and "company" were amazing. I trusted them in my home while I was at work (rare for me), I was informed of each step of the work and Hennie was always available by email or phone. The hand made vanity and cabinet are exactly what I wanted. The lighting and bath fixtures are beautiful and match perfect. Hennie worked with me and my budget every step of the way. He was very professional, made suggestions I would not have thought of and answered all my "silly woman questions"! My next project will be my kitchen and Schoeman Enterlprises is the company I will call.

I was referred to Mr Hennie by the manager of the building and had a good impression on the first meeting and after the estimate was submitted and we met again, I decided to use his company's services. The team of Schoeman Enterprises was very polite and did their work with utmost professionalism. The job was done within the desired time frame and went without any interruptions even though I lived out of state and would travel to Tampa every couple of weeks to meet with Hennie Schoeman. I was kept updated every few days with pictures of the progress. Daily progress reports via telephone took a lot of pressure off me. My renovation project was totally stress free and the confidence I placed in Schoeman Enterprises abilities was well rewarded. Should I ever need the services of a contractor I will certainly be contacting Mr Schoeman again.

The work area involved is very small with awkward partitions so only one person could occupy the space at a time. Amir, however, did the job of three men quickly demolishing the existing tile, removing debris and cleaning up every day. He corrected many structural problems that showed up when the walls were opened saving us grief years from now. Amir also installed our new tile and proved to be a true craftsman/artist. He offered many suggestions to elaborate on the design theme we had selected and we are impressed with his creativeness. The job went a few days longer than expected but the final result was worth it.
Description of Work: The project was a remodel of the master bathroom and included removal of the existing floor and shower stall tile, installation of new tile and replacement of the shower stall door. We had a significant stack of ceramic tile left over from the kitchen remodel Hennie did in 2008 so we asked for a tile design that would incorporate the leftover tile. Because he remembered our taste in colors, Hennie was able to offer the perfect complementary tiles to produce a unique, tasteful design. This area had previously been simply utilitarian. Today it is a soothing comfortable retreat. A lesson we learned from the kitchen remodel in 2008 was that Hennie Schoeman is an honest, creative and reliable contractor so we didn't even trouble to get competitive bids for this bathroom. There aren't any shortcuts in his work and his people are very detail oriented. While his pricing superficially might appear on the high side the client is guaranteed to receive excellent value for the money and Hennie is quick to adjust costs for the client's benefit whenever he can.

Very professional work from every member of the team. I was given a comprehensive estimate at the beginning which was adjusted when changes were made, but the pricing was closely adheared to. There was a definite schedule for all work done and if there were a delay or question, I was promptly informed. There were no long delays, and they were careful to make sure that things were kept as tidy as possible while the work was going on. All of my questions were answered within a twenty-four hour period on a regular basis. I never had a difficult time contacting Hennie or his son Able if I had a question or concern. Renovations of an existing home are always difficult when you remain living in the home, but this company made it as good experience as it could possibly be. As I recall it was about a six month process, as we had a few months' break between bathroom renovations and completion of other projects so I could have some relief from all of the dust etc. I would be very comfortable in recommending their services to anyone, and I actually already have.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of two bathrooms, updates in kitchen area and family room (tile, lighting, woodwork moldings), creation of utility room with new cabinets, reconfiguration of master bedroom closet space. My entire home was repainted, but Hennie and his team did not do the painting. Hennie recommended the painter, Tien Dubose, who was really very good. I also used the painter later for the outside of my house with excellent results.

Terrible. The subcontractors (granite countertops and floor tiling) were great. However, my husband had to help them figure out how to install the new toilet & had to install the toilet seat himself. The walls had to be patched after mirrors were removed. They just put drywall compound on & didn't even sand it. The walls are plastered & have a texture. They don't do that, but they didn't even offer who could fix the walls. They were just going to install the new wall cabinets & leave the walls as is, so it was our problem to take care of the walls. They said I didn't ask about the wall texturing. I thought I could rely on them to look at the whole project to make sure it would all be taken care of. I was sorely disappointed that I had to think of every detail then keep hearing "We don't do that". The quarter-round from the baseboard was removed to install the toilet. They said they don't re-install it. That wasn't specified on the proposal. They were supposed to reinstall the faucets in the master bath sink. But they threw them out, so my husband had to go shopping for new faucets. My husband said he had to constantly supervise. It was as if they'd never done this before. It was a terrible experience. I finally told them to just forget it. My husband & I finished the work ourselves. We were doing a lot of it anyway!

Response from Schoeman Construction
This experience was a shock and the comments a far cry from the way we do our business. The Texture and paint was clearly excluded on our estimate and should have been no surprise at all. In the end, ALL the items that were not done, were deducted from the bill and they paid only what they felt comfortable with. Here is the response I gave to the client: Dear Member, I am sorry to hear that we have not met your expectations. Also that we should have anticipated the issues and avoided them. Respectfully, I would like to carefully go through each item and see was and what was not done(with the reasons). First, I made a dreadful error in NOT instructing my team to save the two master bathroom faucets and for that I not only apologized to Steve but I also offered to replace them at no charge to you. Steve declined my offer and said that he didn't mind getting two new ones. I sincerely apologize to you too because we could have had them installed today if we had them. Guest Bathroom: Items 2.We removed the mirror & patched the wall as per estimate. 3.We did not install the new mirror. Steve decided that the wall should be textured and painted before this happened. I could not anticipate this because texturing and painting was never discussed or requested - patching the wall was and we did so as promised. 4.We relocated the Light outlet to the center of the sink but did not install light for the same reason. 5. Removed countertop, Installed new Granite, sink & Faucet as per estimate. We also had to replace the supply valves with new ones($45) as a courtesy. 6. & 7. The two cabinets were ready(without the doors) to be installed Friday morning( I was going to bring the doors by on Monday or Tuesday and install them then) Due to the wall needing texture and paint, this was not done and instead of making two trips, it made sense to allow the factory to complete the staining of the doors and deliver the complete cabinets next week and install at the same time. 8. We removed the existing toilet and installed the new toilet. We had to relocate the supply valve(it involved drywall work and plumbing). I mentioned this to Steve and offered to do it at a nominal labor charge of $65. However, I would like to include this as a courtesy to you. 9. The cable was ready for the GFCI to be installed inside the wall cabinet. The GFCI could not be installed for obvious reasons. Master Bathroom: Items 14. We removed the mirror & patched the wall as per estimate. 16. GFCI relocated as per estimate. 17. Countertop was removed and new Granite with two under mount sinks installed.(Very pretty sinks btw.) The Faucets were not installed for reason already given. 18. Framed mirrors were not hung because wall was not ready. 20. Tiles were installed in closet as per estimate 21. Grouted and finished tile as per estimate. Conclusion: What we still need to do, will take us one day and I can make this happen next week Tuesday or later, as it suites you. The texturing and painting was something that we did not anticipate as it is common practice to install the cabinets and later do the texturing and painting. I fully respect Steve's preference to texture and paint first and then install the cabinets. That is his prerogative. It does however mean we have to wait until it is done and would really appreciate your understanding. I gave Tien Dubose(he does about 80% of our bathrooms and kitchens after we have finished) your number but unfortunately he came down with a virus today and may be out for a few days. If you have another person you are comfortable with, who can do texturing and painting, please feel free to use him because Tien may not be able to get there immediately. Please know that the last thing we want to do is inconvenience you in any way and again for the two faucets we dumped accidentally, please forgive me. Your total satisfaction is of paramount importance to us and we will do what we have to, to make sure this happens. Regards Hennie Schoeman Schoeman Enterprises, Inc. He hasn't started the work yet. That will start on the 14th of March. They've been negotiations for probably about a month now and the last thing he wrote me was an email. He is very good about communicating. I haven't had the work done yet so it's really hard for me to say, but up until now I felt confident. I've been in touch with some of the other people he has done work for and they seemed pleased. He is very good about communication and professionalism. So far every meeting, he's been on time.

The quote was kind of high and we got the work done elsewhere for quite a bit less. He was very professional and he was on time. We were doing it for my 75-year-old aunt who was on a limited budget and it didn't fit in her budget. We got the work done for less money. He did everything that I asked him to do; I just decided not to use him.

Our renovation has just been completed. Schoeman has worked during the past year (in 2 phases) to make our 1990 house into a very updated home. They, with their handpicked technicians, transformed every room of our 4-bed, 3-bath home. From the floors to the ceiling and all spaces in between, Hennie, Abel, and Almir were always there, very creatively mixing all of our ideas to give us "easy to live in" spaces. When the Schoemans say they want to take the pain out of your renovation experience, they really mean it. They kept to the schedule, or called. They made sure we weren't stressed about anything. They did it right the first time. Hennie found wonderful examples of the latest in cabinetry, granite, travertine, porcelain tile, and tumbled marble, saving us from the hassle of going store to store to find what was needed. Abel and Almir came up with ways to give us three bathrooms and a kitchen, which are functional, unique, well-designed and well executed, as well as beautiful. They are true professionals in every sense. Just take a look at our bathrooms and kitchen on their website and you will see the photos from our renovations (as well as other clients). These examples show the kind of work you can expect when you use Schoeman Enterprises Inc., as we did, for your renovations- one room or multiple rooms.

Hennie came out and gave me an estimate. Although I can't find any fault with him or his company, the estimate was more than I was prepared to spend. He asked me to give him an idea of what I wanted to spend and I just couldn't do that. The amount I had budgeted was significantly less and I was not going to ask someone with his reputation to take less.
Description of Work: I was getting an estimate for a new subfloor in the master bath and replacement of tile in the shower.

Everything went very well. The one major delay was due to a crack in one of the tub walls that had to be ordered and all work was delayed until that came in. The wait was well worth it because the end product was absolutely beautiful. I am delighted with the look of my new bathroom. The people I worked with were polite, professional, and always had a positive attitude.
Description of Work: Everything in the bathroom including floor, walls, ceiling, and all fixtures were replaced.

Hennie Schoeman and his son Abel did a wonderful job. The new bathroom is beautiful. I highly recommend them. I had estimates from 2 other companies. Hennie's was right in the middle on price, but I felt FAR more confident in his abilities than the other companies I talked to. Hennie and his sons are very professional, skilled, and of the highest integrity. It was so refreshing to meet people of such high character. Abel did most of the work himself. He was on time every day and cleaned up every evening. He even made sure I had a path through the area so I could walk through to the adjoining closet - very thoughtful! (I fully expected to be kicked out of my closet for a month and that did not happen for even a day!) Abel is very skilled at tiling and offered great suggestions to improve the look. The project took 3 full weeks of daily work, plus about 5 days spread out over the next 2 weeks to finish up (due to waiting for granite and shower doors, etc.). I even left town for a week and didn't worry once about how the work was progressing. There were no problems at all and I plan to use them again for my next remodeling project.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of master bathroom (new tub, shower, toilet, cabinets, counters, tile).

we found Hennie Schoeman on Angie's list, he came out right away listened carefully to what we wanted and came back within one week with an estimate, Hennie was the fourth company we spoke with. Hennie had a few suggestions for us, we had not thought of,. we negotiated the final price, he gave us a budget and suggested companies whose quality he was comfortable with to choose our Travertine and granite from. we purchased our own cabinetry. Hennie provided everything else. My wife and I both work, so we gave a Key to our home to Hennie and felt very comfortable doing so. He had three main workers whom he introduced to us. and work began on the day he said it would January 4th 2010, each day when we returned home from work the house was as we left it, and the bathroom was in different stages of development, when something required more than previously thought Hennie called immediately and gave us an estimate ie: the bathroom pipes needed replacing, the cost was minimal and the work needed. old items were left for our inspection, Hennie called nightly to check how we felt it was going and if we felt anything was missed or needed. he finished when he said he would and the transformation is remarkable, our friends and family are impressed and so are we. he took a 55 yr old bathroom and transformed it into exactly what we envisioned. We are very happy we found Hennie on Angie's list. While he wasn't the cheapest he was certainly the best.
Description of Work: our only bathroom was completely gutted(except the toilet) and remodeled

I started to write a long detailed account but decided to delete it and simply cut to the chase. Hennie Schoeman is a man without peer in the construction industry. If you are in the market for someone to work in your home, you can end your search here and now. Hire Schoeman Enterprises. Any job that is of the scope of the work that Schoeman Enterprises performed in my home will undoubtedly have some issues and this job was no different. It is in the handling of the issues that the true character of a contractor is revealed. This job revealed that Hennie Schoeman is a man of unquestionable character, a man of his word, and a man who truly cares about those he does business with. The end result of the work that Schoeman Enterprises did in our home is in a word "breathtaking". The transformation is unbelievable and our house is now the envy of the neighborhood and we owe it all to Hennie Schoeman. Thank you Hennie!
Description of Work: We had a complete demo and remodel of our kitchen and guest bathroom done along with the tiling of approximately 1,000 square feet of the bottom floor of our 1988 home.
