They were servicing my air conditioners. I have three of them in the house. They had been servicing them for several years and they were good but their prices are slightly higher than others. They did a good job but when I called them the last time to get a service they refused. Apparently they found out I bought an air conditioner from someone else. So, they would no longer provide me with any service. I was disappointed about that. They bid on the air conditioner but they were $1700.00 higher.

We have had a service contract with REM since 2013, and the last bi-annual servicing was on 4/22/16. Our three year old A/C (not installed by REM) was shutting down intermittently, which appeared to be caused by water in the overflow valve. The unit has had the same problem several times in the past. I arranged a service call with REM on 7/14/16. REM arrived on time at 8:30am and diagnosed the problem as a clogged drain line. Replacement of the drain line was recommended. “Blowing out” of the existing drain line, which had been done during a previous visit, was estimated to cost several hundred dollars, including the price of the chemical and service call ($150). The installation of the drain line (approximately 18 ft), including material, as well as the 8:30am service call, was quoted at $750. In addition, the thermostat wasn’t working properly. A replacement thermostat was estimated to be $249, which included a 20% discount. Note: The price of the thermostat found later online was $50.70, and other retailers offered it at a similar price. REM tech left and advised that two techs would arrive at 2pm to replace the drain line and thermostat. At 2pm, two REM techs arrived and installed the new drain piping. Basically, they cut off the existing pipe, attached the new line and ran it from the A/C unit, along the wall in the garage, and drilled an opening to the outside through the garage wall. The work took 45 minutes, including the installation of the thermostat. The A/C ran after the installation, but shut down after 30 minutes. REM returned and worked another two hours on the unit. The unit has run well since that time. When my wife arrived home around 5pm, she attempted to greet and speak with the REM tech, and he replied, “no more questions” and left. We are unsure what was repaired during the second visit. We most likely will not renew our service contract with REM.

A new pipe was installed (12 feet PVC pipe, connected to the AC, drilled whole in garage wall for $700) . Thermostat was exchanged for $250 (Model sold for significant lower price at Home Depot). AC REM had to come back after installation, AC stopped working again. Mechanic told my wife when she arrived home in a rude way: "Don't ask more questions" and left after the second time he worked on the AC.
Description of Work: AC didn't work, line was clocked despite Maintenance contract.

Fantastic service! REM was able to get a technician on site same day. Very patient and thorough service. Dennis was very open and honest about the state of my unit, but there was no pressure to up-sell me or replace anything unnecessary. All the pricing was laid out in a book and he took the time to show me why I was being charged what I was, which I really appreciated, made me feel confident that I was paying a fair price. I needed to request a follow up visit the next day, when the air handler would not turn on. It was no fault of the technician, just a residual issue specific to my setup. REM got another technician out within a couple hours that took care of everything. Both technicians were very knowledgeable and extremely professional. The scheduling was great. REM gave me a 2-hour window for arrival, and then a courtesy call 30 minutes prior to the technician arriving, which was great. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the whole experience.

Leo from REM Air Conditioning came out for the service call. Leo was incredibly professional and explained everything he was doing and gave plenty of helpful suggestions for maximizing the life of our AC unit. We ended up just needing a freon refill. We will definitely use REM Air Conditioning again in the future.

Absolutely terrific. Another outfit (One Hour Air) told us the compressor was bad and that we would need to install an entire new system, $8,000-$15,000. I wanted a second opinion. Chris from REM came out and in five minutes discovered that the only thing wrong was a bad capacitor. It was easy to spot, as it was wrapped up in kludgey electrical tape and was swollen. Any competent technician should have immediately seen it. He replaced it with a part from his truck. He topped off the freon, did a few more checks, gave us some really good advice about filters. Chris was the no-******** honest AC guy you hope to find - when I need more service or when I'm ready to replace my system, I am going to call REM and ask for Chris. He was a consummate professional! I recommend without hesitation!

We came back from Thanksgiving travels to find that the A/C wasn't cooling the house. Another company (an Angie's List A-rated company, by the way) had come out a few years ago for the same problem, topped off our freon, and said the leak could be in the pipe under the house because they couldn't find it. Today Chris had no problem locating the leak, the evidence of which was in plain sight near the front of the air handler. Not only did he top off the freon to keep us cool until the coil assembly can be replaced, he provided a very comprehensive system check and gave us some helpful information--all included in the price of the service call. We would definitely recommend and use them again.

Communication with the office was a little hectic. Seems like they had to order a coil. The coil came in, but they found it was the wrong one. Repeated calls on my part, finally got the job done. This is my only criticism of REM, that they should have kept in touch with me concerning the coil so that I wouldn't have to bug them for an appointment time. Otherwise, only good things to say about the service. I only gave them a "B" for price, because haven't used any other service providers for my A/C units.

Great service!!! Tech showed up on time, was professionally dressed and conducted himself in a very business like manner. He reviewed all the services he was going to perform prior to working on my AC system and completed them all. He even gave me tips on the proper care and operation of the system. I highly recommend REM Air Conditioning of Tampa.

I want to first mention that REM installed a new heating/air conditioning system in February 2014. I selected them after evaluating 4 vendors, all of whom were highly rated on Angies' List and the BBB. They did a superior job evaluating my needs and prescribing several options to choose from. The installation was done on time and very professionally. This system operated efficiently and perfectly until yesterday evening. The technician arrived shortly after my call, and diagnosed my issue as a plugged outflow line. He inspected my filters (which were replaced a month ago) and noted that each should be replaced more frequently to reduce the likelihood of another similar issue. He also showed me how to use a shop-vac to suck stuff out of the line. I cannot say enough about REM. It's one thing to sell something; it is another to keep it running. The cost of the visit was $0, as this was considered part of my one year warranty. I am very pleased to recommend this company. They deliver.

This should have been a fairly quick & easy job. A capacitor replacement at $12 (which should have been under warranty) and labor ~ should have been in the $100 range. The technician hooked up some high tech digital gauges and insisted that I was low on freon and added 3 pounds. Total bill: $450 A week later my unit started shutting off and restarting. I had another company come out and found 1) the capacitor was resting in its cardboard box which is a fire hazard and 2) the high pressure switch is tripping and shutting off the unit because it has too much freon. I was badly price gouged and now have to pay a competent company to fix the screw-up.

We did perform the repairs necessary to bring system up to optimum working order. The box in the outdoor is not a fire hazard at all. We did note at time of the service the outdoor fan motor could possibly be going bad intermitently. This could also cause the high pressure switch to trip. The pressures before and after adding refrigerant are correct accordn to manufacturer specifications. We tried to contact the customer by phone several times, however, he has not returned our messages.

Chris went the extra mile to ensure both houses were properly maintained. In one house he replaced a filter in the air handler that had been overlooked during previous maintenance by Air Rescue and Caldeco. In that house he also noted some areas where the original installation by Air Rescue was suboptimal. In the other house he made some minor changes to the original installation by Bay Area that was obstructing movement of the float switch.

I called REM around 5:20 pm after our AC system had stopped working. The outside compressor unit was not starting up anymore. REM indicated that they would have a technician on-site within about an hour. At 6:25 pm Chris of REM came. He was very friendly and professional. Within 5 minutes he had diagnosed the problem, being a faulty dual capacitor. This part is essential for the compressor to be able to start up. Chris quoted a total cost of $410, which seemed high, but based on the good reputation of the company I decided to go ahead with the service. Chris later said that the service included a full preventive maintenance check-up. He said that he wanted to make sure that the system had no other problems that could cause it to fail this summer, fair enough. It took Chris in total about 1.5 hours to complete the service. He cleaned out the outside compressor, condenser/coil, drain line and performed an overall system tune-up. So, overall the service performed was professional, quick and satisfactory. However, I believe the price is on the high side for replacement of a dual capacitor (even USA made ones are not more than about $50) and 1.5 hours of labor. I spoke to the REM service manager over the phone (did not get his name) and he explained that the high cost was due to the fact that this was an after hours service. Still, $240/hr seems excessive, even for an after hours service. I will consider REM again for a future AC service, but will be very cautious regarding their prices.

They are great. I have had a couple of other companies who asked me to change my air conditioner or I will be in trouble because I have a 10 years old air conditioning system. Since I am a part of their maintenance deal I get them to come out faster too. I like the way they come in and work; they do a great job. They explain everything they are doing. I have had two separate men come where in I have had an older gentle man that has come twice and someone else came this time but both of them were great. I have been really happy with them. The gentle man who came the last time was going to be late. The company called to inform me half an hour before the timeframe they had given me that he was stuck on the other job and would be a little late which blew me away and thanked them very much; they called me 40 minutes later and informed me that he was on the way as well.

This was my 3rd time using REM after reading the reviews on here. The first 2 times, Dennis got my system running after replacing a unit he said ants had gotten into and destroyed. Both times the repair ran about $150-200. He was quick, friendly and efficient. Since the summer is approaching, I thought I'd get a $80 checkup since my system seemed to be running at a slow pace. I didn't know if this was due to the fact it wasn't that hot yet. But since it's an aging system, I thought it'd be a good idea. Freon leaks were found and the filter was rusting... total repair $533. That price may be fair. I don't know. I don't work in the industry. HOWEVER, the one thing I can do is check the price on the can of EasySeal used. I was charged $160 plus labor for it. I just looked on Google and couldn't find anyone selling it for more than $60. Now I have to wonder if I've been taken for a ride. --- My reply to the response: On the can, the price of $160 PLUS labor was written with a Sharpie. If I was charged for 90 minutes, that's another issue altogether. Dennis was quick and efficient. He was not here more than an hour. As for my contacting you, I was already charged. I wasn't thrilled with the nearly $1,000 I've put into this system over the past couple years, but I wasn't unhappy until I saw how much the price of the can of sealant was inflated. The reason services like Angies List are useful is you get an objective view. As I said in the original review, I don't have the training to judge whether or not the repair work was overpriced or not. But jacking up the can of sealant cost up 300% doesn't leave a good impression and as a member, I felt it necessary to share this. Obviously businesses need to turn a profit. But when you go to a restaurant and order a cheeseburger, you know you're being overcharged if it says $20 on the menu. With services like Heating/AC, car repair, etc, those of us who are untrained have to rely on trust. There's a line between making a profit and taking advantage of someone. On the can of sealant, I know I was overcharged. Your overall review was a C. I still praise Dennis' work. I just know in service industries like this, employees are often encouraged to upsell. You guys have a great score on here. By volume you should be able to do quite well without making a 300% profit on a can of sealant or trying to get customers to buy service contracts.

Response from REM Air Conditioning of Tampa
When [removed members name] called to schedule the $80.00 tune up he did say the unit was not cooling well - in his complaint, he referred to it as being sluggish. The diagnostics on his equipment showed low refrigerant pressures which indicated a refrigerant leak in the system. This system is older and worn. We gave the customer a flat rate quote to add 3 lbs of R-22, the older more costly version of refrigerant, perform maintenance on the equipment and install stop leak. The total for all the above was $533.00 for which he approved and initialed his approval of the quote to begin the work. The labor time for this technician at this call was 1 1/2 hours. In order to add refrigerant, sealant or perform any work to the refrigerant aspect of his system, the individual performing the work must hold an EPA certified license. It is true you can purchase an array of sealant products from approximately $45.00 to $90.00 for the product alone. However, the $160.00 charged to this customer included the labor to correctly install the sealant and check the operation after the sealant was installed by a trained, EPA certified technician as well as any stocking, handling, etc. normal expenses associated with keeping well stocked service trucks on the road ready for service to our customers. As to our pricing, we regularly compare with other legitimate contractors and find there are many companies who charge much more than we do. At the same time, there is always some who will charge much less than industry standard based on normal operating business expenses. This customer did not contact us about any concerns regarding the repairs or price. We had no idea there was a problem until we saw the review.

The service person, Christopher, took his time to explain possible problems beforehand, explained treatment needed in detail, and pointed out that my AC is old and would likely continue to give problems, explained why the cost of Freon is going up because of EPA standards and that a new refridgerant is now being phased in with new equipment. I have used REM for several years and trust their guidance. When I am ready to purchase a new unit I will have them install it. This company is easy to get in touch with, there is never a long wait for appointments, thye come ontime, are neat, clean and professionally polite.
