A while back I had my home repiped. Since then, I've heard noises in the wall which I thought was a dripping. Jack, from Red Cap, assured me that it was the expansion of the pipes, and not a leak that I was hearing. While here, he also replaced the handle on my commode. He was here well over an hour, and charged me not a penny----not even a service call fee. This was the first time I've ever used this company, but it surely won't be the last. After a long time of searching, I finally found a new plumbing company.
Description of Work: I thought I had a water leak in the wall.

The experience from start to finish was great. They are helpful and efficient!
Description of Work: I used Red Cap plumbing when my garbage disposal stopped working and need to be replaced. Red cap was prompt, courteous, and efficient. The plumber arrived on time and gave me 3 options for disposal replacement. He installed the new unit and was out the door. I would highly recommend them!

On the service day, we got a call about an hour after we were expecting Matt, saying he was in a meeting and would be delayed. Not a problem. When Red Cap did show up, the service tech was a man named "Eddie". When asked, he did not know why Matt couldn't come and did not know the work requested. We showed Eddie the 2 faucets. I had cleaned out everything underneath the kitchen sink and removed any stuff in and around the set tub so the work areas were accessible. Eddie looked at the replacement faucets I had, and the then pulled out a price book. He said it would be around $450 to replace 2 faucets. I was shocked at the quote and told him so. He just referred to his book of prices as his guideline. I made the decision to just have the set tub faucet installed so it would be functional. He went right to work and literally within 20 minutes, had taken the tub off the wall, borrowed my plumber's wrench to loosen the retaining hardware and the the tub back up with the new faucet installed. I was so happy to have it completed and when I asked him for the total, he said $215. But then he hesitated for 2 seconds and then said he was going to install the kitchen sink faucet for me as well at that price but he was not going to put it on the ticket. I guess because the other job was so quick - maybe the original quote was an hourly rate and he had only worked 20 minutes....I don't know. But he installed the kitchen faucet as quickly. When I wrote out the check for the 1 faucet charge of $215, I gave "Eddie" a cash tip for helping me out with the second sink. He was very thankful and told me when I call Red Cap again, make sure to ask for Eddie.
Description of Work: After scheduling the appointment to have 2 sink faucets replaced, Red Cap Plumbing called back to confirm the service date and time in the morning. I was told the serviceman would be "Matt" and an estimate would be given once he had looked at the job. I had the 2 faucets - one for the set tub in the laundry room and one for the kitchen sink. Normally, I would do the work but arthritis was preventing that. I had gotten to the point of just needing retaining bolts on the set tub loosened to remove the old faucet. So the work was needed, but not extensive in my mind - just loosening bolts and replacing faucets - I even had the plumber's wrench to do it - but my hands weren't cooperating. We had used Red Cap several years ago to replace all the toilets in the house (3) and were very happy.

I called them at 1pm on a Monday & the plumber was there by 2:30pm. He fixed the problem quickly. He put in a ball valve that should last forever. He was professional in appearance & manner. I normally use Parker plumbing but they couldn't come out the same day. Red Cap is pricey but they came right out & did a good job. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again if I couldn't get my regular plumber
Description of Work: I had to have the main shut off valve on the side of the house replaced. The threads on the old valve were bad & it wouldn't stop leaking.

Called Red Cap right after the leak was found. I was able to get an appointment same day (Sunday). Once the technician arrived, he looked over the problem and head out to his truck to find the price. He looked thru his Red Cap price book and quoted me $220.00 for the repair. I about fell over. The pipe needing replace is only 5 1/2" long. Needless to say, we did not allow him to do our repairs.
Description of Work: Woke up this morning to a leaky water pipe going into the hot water heater. Water was spraying everywhere. We put tape over the hole so it would stop spraying and now it drips in a bucket.

My husband attempted to put in a new garbage disposal in our kitchen, but it was leaking and could not figure out why. Called at 8AM, right when they opened, was told they could be to me between 1 and 3 same day. They called me 30 minutes later and asked if they could come out now, their repair guy was running early! I said sure. Turned out to be a hidden gasket. Got it fixed, cleaned up, was friendly to my dog (BIG plus), and out of there. My fix was done less than 2 hours after my initial call. Their base repair rate was $125 which their coupon brought down to $100, which I think is quite high. Would be nice if they had a smaller repair rate for small, quick visits. Otherwise they were fabulous!

I had a Saturday morning appointment with Red Cap and Ocy showed up on time. He was very professional and courteous and gave me a fair estimate for the work to be performed. Ocy made sure the workspace was left very clean and removed all waste. This was my second time using Red Cap and would definitely use them again.

There is nothing I disliked. They are highly professional. They put on booties before they walked into my home. The morning before they come out someone from the office called to tell me exactly what the ETA was. Then they emailed me with not only the time of the appointment but also a picture of the person who was coming out. There is personal certification and bonding as well as the company is bonded. I was impressed. I did my own research before they came out to figure out what I wanted. The guy that came out did a thorough comparison on paper of what I could expect from each and it was absolutely consistent with what I had found in my own search. They would install anything I wanted. Although I was considering a tankless hot water heater, they confirmed that what I really need was a new, more modern, tank hot water heater. This was also the cheapest solution. They did it the same day; I thought I’d have to wait several days. They offer a really good membership for an annual fee. It was included in the price of the water heater. It also came with a nine year warranty.

The technician arrived on time and was very nice. That said, I knew I was in trouble when each time I show him what I hoped he would repair, he responded with "the problem here" and proceeded to say he would probably need to order a part if he didn't have it in his truck. But there was no serious attempt to fix any of the items. Told me how he might be able to repair them and then quoted me prices for each. Repair quotes were as follows: Toilet :$285.00 Spa Tub Faucet $252.00 Hose bib $151.86 I was shocked ! Especially when he told me I would have to pay another service call when he ordered the parts and returned to make repairs. He also took pictures of the inside of the toiet because he was not familiar with it. But did say those parts were difficult to find(?) The price quoted to repair/rebuid was $80.00 more than I paid for the thing. He made a few calls to his boss and later said he could waive the next service call. Then he began to talk about the water quailty in my area and was quickly able to show me how much chorline was in our drinking water as opposed to the filtered water from the fridge as well as the pool! A water filtration system proposal/sale was in the works. I paid the service fee of $29.00 and he left and called not long after to leave a message & say he'd found the part for the toilet. I did not return the call and proceeded to try to get an alternate solution. Which by googling each issue was able to fix each one for a grand total that was under $60.00 for all. I was prepared to pay $75-$100 per item but not what was quoted. If there was an under the house problem or digging trenches involved, I would have been expecting a higher repair cost but for these fixes-it was worth my taking the several hours to figure it out. These were things that would have taken a pro probably 10-15 mintues each. So why quote some crazy high price when an average person (me) could find the fix online? Before hiring Red Cap on "the list" several years ago, I never saw an ad or heard a commercial but now-they are everywhere--I guess I now know how they can afford it!

Overall I am very dissatisfied with a job that was never completed. Because I tried to fix their poorly done job, they refused to return.
Description of Work: Service was done on my bathtub which was leaking. Both hot and cold water faucets were fixed. However, the handles of one faucet is almost impossible to turn off or on. I called them to return to do the job properly but the serviceman refused to return be cause I had attempted to fix the poorly done job. He informed me that any interference with the original work negates the contract. Their work was unsatisfactory and the bill was excessive.

We have a small house with one bathroom. When we bought it, we had no idea that this house still had Orangeburg pipes from the 50's! After years of having to put used toilet paper in a trash can, we were finally able to afford to get the piping replaced. We got several bids. Red Cap wasn't the lowest bid, nor the highest; but we liked their customer service and work ethic better than anyone else we brought out. We were particularly impressed with the office staff's courtesy and the plumbers' straight talk - no doublespeak, mumbo-jumbo or fearmongering from these folks. By the time we were ready to do the final estimate, we also had to fix a leak in the bathroom sink and replace the faucet. Red Cap did that the same day, then came back a few days later to do the pipe replacement. Their staff did the replacement with as little disturbance to the yard as humanly possible. They had to cut through a concrete porch to get to where the pipe joined the house; but again, they minimized the cut. They had estimated that the job would take two days, but they actually pushed themselves through 11 hours to finish the job in a single day. It is unusually warm, even for Florida, and this job couldn't have been easy for the staff! Now we have a toilet that we can flush like everyone else flushes, and a working bathroom sink! We don't expect to need plumbing services again any time soon; but if we ever do, Red Cap will get the call.

After struggling with a very slow kitchen drain for weeks, we decided to call in the professionals. The scheduled the appoint on my day off, called before arriving, and were here right on time. The plumber took a look at the drain, gave me a written estimate for the fix, and got right to work. 30 minutes with the power drain rooter through the vent pipe on the roof, and the sink was working like new, if not better. After he finished, we discussed ways to prevent future clogs in the kitchen sink. We also discussed options for replacing the cast iron drain pipes in my house, for a long-term fix. Friendly and professional! Kind of expensive, but great service. Also, the Angie's List $25 coupon saved me well over 10% on the cost of the work.

We had a minor issue with our water heater. When I called to make the appointment, I explained to them what the issue was and asked them if they did free estimates. The person confirmed that they would take a look at the water heater free of charge and give us an estimate. Well, when the tech showed up, he told my wife that he couldn't really do anything and that the diagnostic would be $100. She paid for this and they were able to fix it (it was an issue with the breaker). I gave them a "C" on pricing due to what I would categorize as false advertisement in regards to the free estimate. I think we will try them one more time to see if this was an isolated incident or standard operating procedure.

My experience with Red Cap was mostly positive, but I was put off by the plumber's sales push (and water quality test) for contract services. If I were a business or if I was anticipating major plumbing expenses, I might have been OK with that. But it was a surprise to me. I thought I was just calling for a one-time plumbing repair, not for a continuing service contract. But all said, it was a good experience. I needed the faucet repaired right away, and I had the part, and Red Cap sent a plumber out to my house within an hour of my call. He came in, did the work efficiently and thoroughly (he struggled with the part and had to try a couple of things to make my old plumbing cartridge come out and to get the new cartridge to sit just right) and I was very glad I had called a professional rather than trying to do the repair myself. He did quality work, he made sure the leak was really stopped, and he had it fixed in an hour. Again, the service was great and the customer service on the phone was terrific, but I just wasn't expecting the pitch for the service contract.
Description of Work: I called Red Cap because I received a coupon in the mail for $25 off plumbing services. I needed a leaky shower head fixed RIGHT NOW because of tile work that was scheduled later in the week. I had tried to fix the faucet myself but couldn't. So I called Red Cap.

The clog could not be cleared the first way the tech determined so he attempted to clear it through the roof which was at the higher price. During his attempt to clear the clog from the roof with the snake, his cable disconnected down the vent which caused him the need to run a retriever. The retriever went through the vent and broke an angle pipe which then needed to be repaired. Eight hours later and an addtional technician, our simple clogged sink was finally cleared. However, an additional $173.00 was added to our bill to repair the broken vent caused by the technician stating that a wrong degree angle pipe was installed in our attic and that it why the retriver broke through. We made several calls to the office to question the additional fee and the need to even go through the roof in the first place. One call was returned from the office staff assuring us that it was still under review. It has been almost two months now, and we have not heard back from them.
Description of Work: We had a clogged drain in our kitchen sink. We looked on Angie's List to find a plumber and chose Red Cap based on reviews and discount off of the service call fee. Left a messgae with the service and received a call back right away. Their tech arrived on time and he explained how he would troubleshoot the problem to determine the fix that was needed and explained the difference in pricing depending on which fix would be needed after doing his penny drop test. The test determined it could be cleared one way and we were given a set price.

Very well! Chris found the problem to the shower and sink almost immediately, very experienced! He used a book with pricing to give me an estimate of the materials and labor. Seemed expensive for the little labor involved and the small part needed, this may be the industry. He left to get the part needed for the shower and came back within a reasonable amount of time. Not only was Chris knowledgeable and professional about his job, but he was genuinely kind especially with my 9 month old and my dog. Thanks Chris!

Our Water Heater sprung a leak. I chose Red Cap because they had best rating on Angie's list. I noticed that most ratings & comments indicated that Red Cap pricing was not the lowest and that we should expect to pay a bit more. I was OK with that in return for quick and efficient service. The Red Cap Technician (Ocy) came out promptly and evaluated the situation. Our tank was still under warranty and needed to be replaced. I asked how long he expected the job to take and he indicated approximately 3 hours. Red Cap quoted the job at $1800!! I was stunned!! That's a labor rate of $600/hour!! I reminded him that we were getting the tank and parts for FREE!! He called the office back and let them know that I was "not satisfied" with the quote. They lowered it to $1415.43. That's $471.81 per hour. The best attorney in Tampa does not charge $472/hour! I found Ocy to be very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. However, I had to send him away without performing the job. I called in my local plumber (Charles Hero Plumbing) and they charged me $405 to replace the Water Heater. Everything is working properly. They were clean, efficient, and completed the job in just 2 hours.
