After a year and a half with Pinch a Penny they have LOST our business and confidence. Our pool had algae growing on the bottom and was left like this for over 2 weeks. It took going down to the store and asking to speak with someone in person to have anything done. I was told by the manager to take a phosphate treatment and put it in the pool so the owner could personally come out the following day and brush away the algae. She let me know by doing this the issue would be resolved within 2 days. One day for the treatment to take effect and then one day for the algae to clear after it is swept up. She advised it looks like the pool tech (DJ) was just treating the water and trying to use chemicals instead of sweeping the pool. The following day at about 130pm I called to make sure someone was still coming out to sweep the pool because no one had shown up yet. The same manager then told me - Oh there must have been a miscommunication - I never told you to treat the pool and that someone would come out today. The owner then gets on the phone and says he will be at my house within 20 mins. I really wish he hadn't. The owner shows up in 20 minutes as promised and asked when the last time my pool was backwashed. I said I had no idea because I typically leave the service tech to do his job uninterrupted. He then begins to backwash the pool. I then ask why the pool was not swept properly and why this treatment is taking so long to resolve and his response - "Sometimes pools turn green". While I understand if chemicals aren't balanced properly you will get algae build up however, it should never last longer than a couple of days. He told me a phosphate treatment should have been done but that is not part of my regular service and was an extra charge. The additional charge is completely fine with me however, I was never told this treatment was needed at all. How was I supposed to know I needed a treatment outside of my normal service if I am never notified? He replied - I don't know added chemicals and said DJ would be back to clean the bottom of the pool. I then go on to explain previously we had a pool tech named Michael who was phenomenal. I never had any issues and he always told me if I needed an additional treatment that wasn't covered. I never fought him or Pinch a Penny on any pricing because my pool never had an issue. Then we get a new tech, DJ, and now we have miscommunications and a pool growing algae. He begins to raise his voice saying "Michael is no longer a pool cleaner he was promoted" I said "I am not asking for Michael to come back to service my pool, and I am glad he was promoted. He is great at what he does. What I am saying is once DJ started servicing my pool I am having issues" his reply "That is just a coincidence" We then begin speaking about the bottom of the pool and how there are visible brush strokes where you can see they swept some of algae off the bottom. The owner begins to raise his voice again and say "Algae grows however it wants to. It is a living organism" Which again, I understand however, what I dont understand is why there are brush strokes it is clear the service was not done properly. I was then told brushing the bottom of the pool is not part of the service either. I asked what I was supposed to do - If it is an additional cost to sweep the bottom of the pool, again that is fine, but just telling me it's not included in my service isn't an acceptable answer because CLEARLY there is algae on the bottom of my pool that needs to be addressed. The icing on the cake is when the owner raises his voice one final time and says "Clearly I cant make you happy! I cant guarantee your pool will never turn green. I am from the New York area and service pools all the time up there and even they turn green sometimes. You clearly need to find another company because I am just the owner I am not a pool tech. I dont have all the answers for you." At this point I felt extremely uncomfortable being a female alone while this man is screaming at me. So I retreated inside and allowed him to finish.

The service technician that worked on my spa was the store owner, Rick. He appeared to be experienced and quite knowledgeable in spa equipment service. I am very particular about electrical system work, and Rick seemed competent in that area as well. He took time to perform a thorough functional check after the installation was complete, and he explained the operation to me. He even repaired a small leak in a valve that was not part of his scope. Overall, the quality of his service was far superior to that of a previous service person (different company) that had worked on my spa equipment. Rick at Pinch A Penny New Tampa is clearly my first choice for spa equipment service.
Description of Work: Replaced spa filter and pump-motor assembly.

The free estimate of the work was conducted at our home by the owner Rick. The process and work was completed flawlessly and was an excellent experience. The equipment prices were reasonable and fair, the labor fees were very reasonable. Rick called several times to confirm the service as well as the morning of the scheduled service to confirm and arrived promptly. The job was involved and he worked diligently and completed the work thoroughly. Once the installation was finished Rick provided an in-service on how to use the new variable speed pump. One of the great things about the VS pump is the self timer - we have not had do anything; the pump operates perfectly. Rick called the day after installation to check on us. We are totally satisfied with the service provided, with Rick, with the store and the personnel at the store. Even if you are not looking for a new pool company and store we recommend this specific Pinch a Penny at 19064 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Tampa, FL 33647.
Description of Work: Note: the majority of the cost of the service was for the new pool equipment which was priced fairly. Rick, the owner, removed the old pool pump, natural gas heater, all associated plumbing and hauled all of it away. He then re-plumbed and replaced the equipment; Pentair variable speed with timer pool pump and Max-E-Therm Pool and Spa heater and replaced the spa and pool drain covers; completed all rewiring and new connections needed. He had to jump into the pool with weights and mask to replace the pool main drain cover.
