We contracted w/ On It Construction Co, Inc about 5 years ago for repairs on our house/porch/deck. I have all the invoices filed away--I believe we paid about $20,000 for the work--I would have to check our files for the exact amount. There were a series of events which started w/ a worker falling through our kitchen ceiling--worker was not injured, but I had multiple leaks in my kitchen ceiling for months before it was repaired--Jim went through some personal problems--and they had legal problems (fined by state and shut down for a period of time). We tried to be very understanding of all the delays and excuses for not completing the work. There were many different sub-contractors--rarely were they on time--and there were many, many delays. Weeks would go by w/o any work being completed. Rarely the same workers for any length of time. One part of the repair caused a leak on our lanai (one of many problems caused by the workers) which lead to multiple attempts to repair it--very poor workmanship when attempts were made to fix the leak. Jim did tell me he would resolve all the issues and that we had a one year warranty on his work. I was not satisfied w/ their work, but was willing to just end the nightmare as long as the leak was repaired on the lanai (it never was). At one point, we discussed that we wouldn't know for sure (until rainy season) whether or not the leak was fixed. When rainy season arrived, and the lanai continued to leak, we were then informed that the lanai was not covered under the "warranty" (even though they caused the leak). Additionally, they replaced two front facing windows. All the window trim in our house is brown. They ordered and installed windows with white trim (for a dark brown house). Needless to say when I arrived home from work that day, I was shocked and couldn't believe that they installed the wrong color windows. I was told by Jim that they would paint the outside trim and it would be fine--they left the inside trim white--okay since the walls in the loft are light colored. I asked what will happen over time and was assured that the outside trim will be stained permanent. It wasn't--they should have replaced the windows with the correct color. It looks bad--the color is fading--doesn't match the other windows in the house--I will have to have the windows replaced at some point with the correct color. Also, they rebuilt our 2nd story wood deck. Jim told me that they would use marine grade, pressure treated wood so it would last for many, many years. It's rotting already and I've had additional work done to replace some of their warped/rotten wood. The original deck was about 20 years old, but lasted very well. I was expecting the replaced wood to hold up as well. Another disappointment. I have emails and bills from the company over a two year period where you can see many of the problems and delays that we endured. I am still very hurt and disappointed in the quality of their workmanship and that they did not stand by their work. We were more than understanding throughout the entire ordeal--we gave Jim chance after chance to do the right thing. We really should have contacted a lawyer. I truely believed that Jim Norris was a man of his word--what a sad disappointment--I'm still very disappointed with the poor workmanship. The house was in better condition before they started the repairs, than when they were finished. Jim was rarely here, and his workers were unreliable and unskilled. A professional contractor should oversee the work and make sure that his employees are skilled and are doing a good job. Do not use this company unless they have completely changed their work ethics and are using skilled workers.
