This is a great company. Out of all the AC companies we have tried since moving to Tampa, Ken's is by far the best. They have worked on our aging AC unit about 3 times to keep it running as long as possible. Now that it is time to replace it, we will for sure be using them. They don't upsale you, which was very refreshing. Dave did a great job of explaining all the options and being transparent. I highly recommend Ken and this company.

The gentleman that came out to inspect and clean the unit stated I needed special freon, but did not tell me it would be double he price. My expectation based on my emails with Ken was the price would be $80, when the service was completed it came to $160 due to the special freon. Now a week later the unit is leaking and not working at all! Not only do they overcharge, but they break the unit!!! I would stay away, there are too many other companies that will not rip you off and damage your expensive equipment.

I refunded her money immediately as she was very unhappy with our service. I explained the situation as best I could as the owner of a small business and sent out an employee to remedy the situation. This was a routine maintenance and R-22 refrigerant was added, thus the additional cost. She had an internal filter that was overlooked the 1st time. We did not break her unitand we left it in good working order.

Dave arrived on time and ready to work. He was very professional and thorough. He could have saved himself a ton of time, but decided to go the extra mile and provide outstanding customer service. Pricing was a fraction of what the bigger companies charge. He changed out my leaking evaporator coil for a warrantied replacement. I was unfamiliar with how everything worked so Dave provided some excellent information and tips on HVAC. Dave went above and beyond and I would definitely use his services again in the future.

Ken was extremely helpful in following up with me throughout the process. He even called a few days after the service was finished to check and see how everything was working. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the options that I could take in terms of replacement of units. I felt as if he and Dave were looking for what would be best for me in the long run, not the most expensive. Dave showed up on time, and worked long hours (in no air conditioning) to finish the job as quickly as possible. He and another tech. built an elevated base for my outdoor unit in addition to installing a new attic unit. I felt very comfortable with them in my house and observed them working diligently the entire time. I felt as if they spoke to me as if I was knowledgeable but also broke things down in a way that I could understand. I would recommend them to anyone that I know who needs either air conditioning repairs or a full replacement. Their professionalism and level of care for the project were exactly what I was hoping for.
Description of Work: In an emergency, Ken sent out a technician to assess the status of my current air conditioner. Upon a very thorough examination, the technician explained to me that a new unit, both inside and out, would be necessary based on the damage sustained to my unit, the previous set-up, and the fact that I live in a condo. Dave and Calvin the repair people came out and changed t a part in my outside unit incorrectly. They also drained the lines. I called them after the system was still not working properly and he came out a second time and seemed to be excited about it. He finds out that the fan wasn't circulating the air properly. The parts that he previously fixed weren't even failing, I had to call him a third time two days after the second visit because my AC unit was still not running properly. He came out a third time to tell me that my compressor had failed, and then wanted charge me another $1800.00. I do feel that Dave and Calvin is responsible for causing my compressor to fail because of the improper installation of the capacitor.

The 1st time as the unit was running ok fine said it was cutting out sometimes and wanted him to attempt to fix it as it was very hot and humid. We were in the middle of 30 days of straight rain every day so Dave flushed the drain line as the system had never been maintained. The second time out Mr. Burch pressured Dave and agreed with him, to change out the noisy blower motor w/bearings issues and also a weak capacitor to the compressor. Dave used two single capacitors to make up a dual capacitor as it was an odd size. A few days later, compressor had failed. I offered to refund $385.00 of the previous $750.00 paid which meant he had all new parts for cost.He got mad claiming that Dave somehow ruined his compressor and that he doesn't have the money for replacement. I am so sorry that he doesn't have the money and that we attempted to fix his unit. It is more likely water shorted his compressor as there was flooding all over the Tampa area. I dispatched immediately each time and tried to rectify the situation with a refund. Dave is not paid a commission and has 20 years of experience.

My house is only 7 years old and my two units were installed by Millian-Aire Ent. Corp. when my house was built in 2007. I called them to come out and look at one of my units because it stopped cooling my home. Chris ( who is in charge of the Wesley Chapel area in Florida ) said that I had several leaks , one leak in the evaporator coil and 2 other leaks in the suction side and liquid side of the compressor. He quoted me $2,800 to $3,500 to replace the evap. coil , txv and compressor, and about 10-11 #lbs of R-22 Freon (my unit only holds 9#lbs). He said I needed a new unit and would schedule an appt. for me to see their "comfort specialist" to price out some new units. He said that I needed to be worried and not wait too long to replace my unit because I would be putting too much pressure on the other unit and then wind up replacing two units instead of one. He had me in tears because I could not afford a new unit being a widow, single mother and trying to sell my home. The "comfort specialist", Mr. Dan Cathey quoted me a price of $6,853.00 for a new unit which did not make me feel good. I decided to listen to my gut feeling and found KEN BARRETT AIR CONDITIONING through Angie's list and read his customer's reviews who had also experienced the same thing I was experiencing where they were being pressured to buy a new unit when all they needed was a part changed. Mr. Barrett sent me TWO GUARDIAN ANGELS BY THE NAMES OF DAVE AND GARY! Dave came out , diagnosed my problem and showed me what the problems were. He said I had two leaks in the service valves which is located on the side of the compressor and changed out the PINS AND REPLACED THE OLD CAPS WITH THE NEW CAPS! He then proceeded to the handler and discovered that i needed to REPLACE THE BAD EXPANSION VALVE AND FLOAT SWITCH FOR NEW ONES! He and Gary came out the next day and changed them and showed me the old parts that did not work. Dave also gave me a wealth of information by showing me the percentage of pressure in my unit and that I was not empty on freon, unlike what Chris had reported and that my unit held 9 #lbs of freon , not 10 to 11 , again the numbers that Chris reported from Millian-Aire. Million-Aire lost me as a customer because of the way they do business and KEN BARRETT AIR CONDITIONING won me as a customer because of the HONESTY, SINCERITY AND INTEGRITY THESE MEN DISPLAYED (DAVE AND GARY)when they serviced my unit, WHICH IS SO VERY HARD TO FIND THESE DAYS IN OUR WORLD TODAY! Mr. Barrett, you are BLESSED, to have these wonderful men work for you! I AM ELATED WITH THE SERVICE I RECEIVED FROM YOUR COMPANY! Thank You and Keep up the good work! My system quit cooling on Friday, and I dreaded spending the weekend without air. I called Saturday morning hoping it could be fixed some time that weekend. Luckily, Ken returned my call right away and sent his guys out, they fixed it pretty fast and my air was working again by 2 pm that day. We also discussed ways I could keep my unit working longer. The AC appears to be working just fine. Another company sent out a technician yesterday who told me the coil had a hole in it and it had no freon. He recommended a new system stressing that the unit is 13 years old. The unit did not need freon. He was trying to up sell a new system. I highly recommend Ken Barrett air conditioning!

Ken's crew showed up before noon the next day and diagnosed the problem as a bad capacitor. A new one was installed and the unit was fixed in less than an hour. No extra charge for emergency or weekend service. The technician, Joe, is the same tech that had performed our two previous service calls, and it is nice to see that there is no a turnover of workers. I would absolutely recommend Ken Barrett to anyone needing honest, reliable and dependable a/c services.
Description of Work: I had used Ken Barrett A/C in the past for a tune-up and a cleaning at the townhouse where my college-age daughter lives, When the a/c quit on August 1st, I immediately called Ken. It was 6 PM on Friday evening and the a/c was running but had stopped putting out cool air. Ken suggested a few things things to try in case the compressor had iced over and told me that he would do his best to get the unit fixed and functioning by the end of the day on Saturday, or on Sunday at the latest. He actually had the unit repaired and blowing cold air by noon the next day [Saturday].

These guys came in on a Home Warranty call after another company had been called in twice and couldn't figure out the problem. I explained the intermittent nature of the loss of cooling and Joe and Steve listened carefully and began troubleshooting. After they replaced a contact that may have been the problem, they remained in touch with me via text to see what the unit was doing. After a cooperative effort they came out a second time, diagnosed the problem (which was a sticking expansion valve), ordered a part, and installed it in the most expeditious manner possible. These gentlemen were patient and courteous, and willing to listen to me, the homeowner, and be tenacious enough to solve a problem that others could not. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.

I knew my A/C was on it's last leg, so when it died I was not surprised. It only took one call into Barrett's A/C. A technician arrived in fewer than 12 hours, and thoroughly inspected the unit. Joe and Scott, the technicians, replaced the entire system 12 hours after that and they were great! It was hotter than love the day they worked and they kept plugging along without complaint. They remained professional, courteous and patient even when a complication arose. Seems a hole erupted in the drain pipe at some point during the installation. Despite being hot and tired, they worked persistently and methodically to find the hole so they could repair it. Hats off to them and Ken Barrett for employing them.

After being in our new home less than 2 weeks, we had to call our Home Warranty company when the AC went out. They sent Ken Barrett's repair men out the same day. The found a leak in the coils and informed us that the unit needed replacement. We were told that the Warranty Company would cover only the replacement of the leaking part, but that FL. requires that the whole system needed replacement to be in code. In addition, the paperwork could take us into next week. Ken stepped in, gave a a very fair quote on our part of the cost and helped us expedite the paperwork so by Friday we were up and running. BRAVO!

I called Ken on a Friday afternoon. He guaranteed me a very reasonable quote over the phone. He had his crew over within the hour. The men were prompt, courteous, and professional. I live in a very old house and access to my attic is very tight. Without any complaint, they quickly went up, found the problem and fixed everything within 30-45 minutes. Both gentlemen were very friendly and professional. They didn't gouge me on the price, it was actually much lower then I expected. I highly recommend this company.

Description of Work: These guys did a few things for our recently purchased home. We have 2 air conditioners. The main air conditioner wasn't working probably and we were connected to these guys through the Homeshield Home Warranty program. The guys installed a new thermostat, new contactor, and a new circuit board. Everything works great. I don't know a fair price, but they did up sell us on some preventative maintenance, which I'm sure is worth the investment, but after making a huge move and using a home warranty it stinks to have to shell out even more money. Secondly, for us, they moved our second airconditioner, which was a mini-split unti, off of our small patio and up onto a wall so we could reclaim valuable patio space. They did a great job, but again, if I had my tools I think I could have moved it for less than $450. But I didn,t, so they did a nice job. The only other complaint I have is they left the wires sloppier than when they started, so after they left I organized and attached the wires on the wall so the job looks more professional. Really nice guys though, and I'm sure if I had noticed the sloppy wires while they were there they would have fixed it for me; but they should have done this without me noticing or having to ask.

I appreciate this customers overall "A" rating, but am concerned about the term "upsell" as pertaining to this job and/or our company.The two units had never been cleaned and should have been done by the seller prior to closing on the home purchase and was overlooked by the home inspection/inspector.I would recommend a seperate a/c inspection by any buyer prior to closing.We could not proceed with our very thorough, numerous,and costly repairs we billed to warranty company, w/o addressing a basic cleaning.We discounted the fee to $200.00 due to their financial situation.My other concern on the cost of moving the condenser that was the customers option and again could have been negotiated into the sale.Anyone can save $450.00 that way or with the knowledge and equipment.They could have gotten other bids/estimates on either item as both were very competitive.Thanks for reading this!

Description of Work: AC quit cooling on a Friday evening. Called and was asked if we needed to have it looked at tonight. Today was the second time I have used Ken Barrett to perform maintenance and fix problems on my AC unit. When my garage unit (I can never remember what it's called) began leaking, I had originally thought it was a more serious issue and not just a symptom of needing an annual cleaning, so I called our home warranty company to have it fixed. The warranty originally assigned another company to do the service, but I called back and asked if they could reassign the job to Ken Barret because of how happy we were with the company last year when they were out. Ken called me personally not even two hours after I called the home warranty company to set up an appointment for the same day. Most companies who have been contracted through the home warranty company have been quick, but never been THAT quick! Joe came out and performed a cleaning on the unit and took care of the issue in the garage; he was friendly, helped explain the logistics of our unit, and left making me feel like the issue had been resolved. If I ever have to use the home warranty company to fix an air issue in the future, I will request Ken Barrett, and I will also use this company on an annual basis to do the routine maintenance on my unit. This company actually cares about their clients, and that can be hard to find in today's world (especially when it comes to finding someone to clean and/or help with something as big as an air unit).

I called Ken Barrett AC at 8 am to ask if they could come out and look at my home AC that was blowing hot air. He said they could be out early afternoon and I asked if it was possible for them to come any earlier. He asked for the opportunity to check his schedule and call me back. Within 5 minutes I had a return call and he said he had a crew that was finishing a job, that he would send to my home as soon as they were done. Within an hour they were at my home, and spent about 30 minutes trouble shooting the equipment before they isolated the problem as a faulty capacitor. Unfortunately they didn't have the proper replacement part with them, but did have another one that could get me back in service until they could return with the correct replacement. So, I was back in service within two hours of my initial call and they returned with the needed part later in the afternoon to finalize the job. I couldn't be happier with the service I received and would highly recommend Ken Barrett Air Conditioning.
